ocfs2: checkpoint appending truncate log transaction before flushing
Appending truncate log(TA) and and flushing truncate log(TF) are two separated transactions. They can be both committed but not checkpointed. If crash occurs then, both transaction will be replayed with several already released to global bitmap clusters. Then truncate log will be replayed resulting in cluster double free. To reproduce this issue, just crash the host while punching hole to files. ocfs2: wait for recovering done after direct unlock request
There is a scenario causing ocfs2 umount hang when multiple hosts are rebooting at the same time. NODE1 NODE2 NODE3 send unlock requset to NODE2 dies become recovery master recover NODE2 find NODE2 dead mark resource RECOVERING directly remove lock from grant list calculate usage but RECOVERING marked **miss the window of purging clear RECOVERING To reproduce this issue, crash a host and then umount ocfs2 from another node. To solve this, just let unlock progress wait for recovery done. ocfs2: further debugfs cleanups
There is no need to check return value of debugfs_create functions, but the last sweep through ocfs missed a number of places where this was happening. There is also no need to save the individual dentries for the debugfs files, as everything is can just be removed at once when the directory is removed. By getting rid of the file dentries for the debugfs entries, a bit of local memory can be saved as well. fat: work around race with userspace's read via blockdev while mounting
If userspace reads the buffer via blockdev while mounting, sb_getblk()+modify can race with buffer read via blockdev. For example, FS userspace bh = sb_getblk() modify bh->b_data read ll_rw_block(bh) fill bh->b_data by on-disk data /* lost modified data by FS */ set_buffer_uptodate(bh) set_buffer_uptodate(bh) Userspace should not use the blockdev while mounting though, the udev seems to be already doing this. Although I think the udev should try to avoid this, workaround the race by small overhead. Added new ext4 debugging ioctls to allow userspace to get information
about the state of the extent status cache. Dropped workaround for pre-1970 dates which were encoded incorrectly in pre-4.4 kernels. Since both the kernel correctly generates, and e2fsck detects and fixes this issue for the past four years, it'e time to drop the workaround. y2038: add inode timestamp clamping
This series from Deepa Dinamani adds a per-superblock minimum/maximum timestamp limit for a file system, and clamps timestamps as they are written, to avoid random behavior from integer overflow as well as having different time stamps on disk vs in memory. At mount time, a warning is now printed for any file system that can represent current timestamps but not future timestamps more than 30 years into the future, similar to the arbitrary 30 year limit that was added to settimeofday(). This was picked as a compromise to warn users to migrate to other file systems (e.g. ext4 instead of ext3) when they need the file system to survive beyond 2038 (or similar limits in other file systems), but not get in the way of normal usage. Please consider pulling fs-verity for 5.4. fs-verity is a filesystem feature that provides Merkle tree based hashing (similar to dm-verity) for individual readonly files, mainly for the purpose of efficient authenticity verification. This is a large update to fs/crypto/ which includes: - Add ioctls that add/remove encryption keys to/from a filesystem-level keyring. These fix user-reported issues where e.g. an encrypted home directory can break NetworkManager, sshd, Docker, etc. because they don't get access to the needed keyring. These ioctls also provide a way to lock encrypted directories that doesn't use the vm.drop_caches sysctl, so is faster, more reliable, and doesn't always need root. - Add a new encryption policy version ("v2") which switches to a more standard, secure, and flexible key derivation function, and starts verifying that the correct key was supplied before using it. The key derivation improvement is needed for its own sake as well as for ongoing feature work for which the current way is too inflexible. Staging/IIO driver patches for 5.4-rc1

Driver core patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big driver core update for 5.4-rc1.
There was a bit of a churn in here, with a number of core and OF
platform patches being added to the tree, and then after much discussion
and review and a day-long in-person meeting, they were decided to be
reverted and a new set of patches is currently being reviewed on the
mailing list.
Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
always gets it wrong).
There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.
There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
issues.

It's a somewhat calmer cycle for docs this time, as the churn of the mass
RST conversion is happily mostly behind us.
- A new document on reproducible builds.
- We finally got around to zapping the documentation for hardware support
that was removed in 2004; one doesn't want to rush these things.
- The usual assortment of fixes, typo corrections, etc.
You'll still find a handful of annoying conflicts against other trees,
mostly tied to the last RST conversions; resolutions are straightforward
and the linux-next ones are good.

f2fs: add a condition to detect overflow in f2fs_ioc_gc_range()
end = range.start + range.len; If the range.start/range.len is a very large value, then end can overflow in this operation. It results into a crash in get_valid_blocks() when accessing the invalid range.start segno. This issue is reported in ioctl fuzz testing.
