asm-generic changes for 5.19
The asm-generic tree contains three separate changes for linux-5.19: - The h8300 architecture is retired after it has been effectively unmaintained for a number of years. This is the last architecture we supported that has no MMU implementation, but there are still a few architectures (arm, m68k, riscv, sh and xtensa) that support CPUs with and without an MMU. - A series to add a generic ticket spinlock that can be shared by most architectures with a working cmpxchg or ll/sc type atomic, including the conversion of riscv, csky and openrisc. This series is also a prerequisite for the loongarch64 architecture port that will come as a separate pull request. - A cleanup of some exported uapi header files to ensure they can be included from user space without relying on other kernel headers. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmKPlXoACgkQmmx57+YA GNkxrRAAnuSgOUo9JC5C4Gm2Q9yhEUHU1QIYeVO0jlan5CkF18bo1Loptq4MdQtO /0pXJPH8rFhDSJQLetO4AAjEMDfJGR5ibmf7SasO03HjqC9++fIeN047MbnkHAwY hFqIkgqn4l+g1RMWK5WUSDJ3XQ7p5/yWzpg/CuxJ+D0w9by/LWI5A+2NKGXOS3GF yi7cWvIKC1l+PmrH3BFA+JYVTvFzlr9P6x5pSEBi6HmjGQR+Xn3s0bnIf6DGRZ+B Q6v03kMxtcqI9e9C0r0r7ZGbdMuRTYbGrksa4EfK0yJM9P0HchhTtT9zawAK7Ddv VMM4B+9r60UEM++hOLS6XrLJdn+Fv+OJDnhONb5c+Mndd8cwV1JbOlVbUlGkn92e WSdUCW6m0TBzDs9Ae1++1kUl1LodlcmSzxlb0ueAhU01QacCPlneyIEKUhcrCl5w ITVw4YVa/BVCh+HvTEdhhak/Qb/nWiojMY+UIH5smiwj6FSFdwEmmgCgHAKprQaA STMxRnccFknGW9CZheoMATYsPIHQKPlm9lbiulSoMLDHxGwshU/6vKD4HDoZU51d HPmUZeKVPahXCUXB4iFI3qD4Ltxaru9VbgfUiY18VB2oc6Mk+0oeh6luqwsrgBdz P2sQ2riZKhN5Frm3DCh7IbJqoqKHlLMWh0itpNllgP5SDmDJjng= =ri2Q -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "The asm-generic tree contains three separate changes for linux-5.19: - The h8300 architecture is retired after it has been effectively unmaintained for a number of years. sparc: use fallback for random_get_entropy() instead of zero
In the event that random_get_entropy() can't access a cycle counter or similar, falling back to returning 0 is really not the best we can do. Instead, at least calling random_get_entropy_fallback() would be preferable, because that always needs to return _something_, even falling back to jiffies eventually. It's not as though random_get_entropy_fallback() is super high precision or guaranteed to be entropic, but basically anything that's not zero all the time is better than returning zero all the time. This is accomplished by just including the asm-generic code like on other architectures, which means we can get rid of the empty stub function here. sparc: add asm/stat.h to UAPI compile-test coverage
asm/stat.h is currently excluded from the UAPI compile-test for ARCH=sparc because of the errors like follows: In file included from <command-line>: ./usr/include/asm/stat.h:11:2: error: unknown type name 'ino_t' 11 | ino_t st_ino; | ^~~~~ HDRTEST usr/include/asm/param.h ./usr/include/asm/stat.h:12:2: error: unknown type name 'mode_t' 12 | mode_t st_mode; | ^~~~~~ ./usr/include/asm/stat.h:14:2: error: unknown type name 'uid_t' 14 | uid_t st_uid; | ^~~~~ ./usr/include/asm/stat.h:15:2: error: unknown type name 'gid_t' 15 | gid_t st_gid; | ^~~~~ The errors can be fixed by prefixing the types with __kernel_. Networking changes for 5.18.
Core ---- - Introduce XDP multi-buffer support, allowing the use of XDP with jumbo frame MTUs and combination with Rx coalescing offloads (LRO). - Speed up netns dismantling (5x) and lower the memory cost a little. Remove unnecessary per-netns sockets. Scope some lists to a netns. Cut down RCU syncing. Use batch methods. Allow netdev registration to complete out of order. - Support distinguishing timestamp types (ingress vs egress) and maintaining them across packet scrubbing points (e.g. redirect). - Continue the work of annotating packet drop reasons throughout the stack. - Switch netdev error counters from an atomic to dynamically allocated per-CPU counters. - Rework a few preempt_disable(), local_irq_save() and busy waiting sections problematic on PREEMPT_RT. - Extend the ref_tracker to allow catching use-after-free bugs. BPF --- - Introduce "packing allocator" for BPF JIT images. JITed code is marked read only, and used to be allocated at page granularity. Custom allocator allows for more efficient memory use, lower iTLB pressure and prevents identity mapping huge pages from getting split. - Make use of BTF type annotations (e.g. __user, __percpu) to enforce the correct probe read access method, add appropriate helpers. - Convert the BPF preload to use light skeleton and drop the user-mode-driver dependency. - Allow XDP BPF_PROG_RUN test infra to send real packets, enabling its use as a packet generator. - Allow local storage memory to be allocated with GFP_KERNEL if called from a hook allowed to sleep. - Introduce fprobe (multi kprobe) to speed up mass attachment (arch bits to come later). - Add unstable conntrack lookup helpers for BPF by using the BPF kfunc infra. - Allow cgroup BPF progs to return custom errors to user space. - Add support for AF_UNIX iterator batching. - Allow iterator programs to use sleepable helpers. - Support JIT of add, and, or, xor and xchg atomic ops on arm64. - Add BTFGen support to bpftool which allows to use CO-RE in kernels without BTF info. - Large number of libbpf API improvements, cleanups and deprecations. Protocols --------- - Micro-optimize UDPv6 Tx, gaining up to 5% in test on dummy netdev. - Adjust TSO packet sizes based on min_rtt, allowing very low latency links (data centers) to always send full-sized TSO super-frames. - Make IPv6 flow label changes (AKA hash rethink) more configurable, via sysctl and setsockopt. Distinguish between server and client behavior. - VxLAN support to "collect metadata" devices to terminate only configured VNIs. This is similar to VLAN filtering in the bridge. - Support inserting IPv6 IOAM information to a fraction of frames. - Add protocol attribute to IP addresses to allow identifying where given address comes from (kernel-generated, DHCP etc.) - Support setting socket and IPv6 options via cmsg on ping6 sockets. - Reject mis-use of ECN bits in IP headers as part of DSCP/TOS. Define dscp_t and stop taking ECN bits into account in fib-rules. - Add support for locked bridge ports (for 802.1X). - tun: support NAPI for packets received from batched XDP buffs, doubling the performance in some scenarios. - IPv6 extension header handling in Open vSwitch. - Support IPv6 control message load balancing in bonding, prevent neighbor solicitation and advertisement from using the wrong port. Support NS/NA monitor selection similar to existing ARP monitor. - SMC - improve performance with TCP_CORK and sendfile() - support auto-corking - support TCP_NODELAY - MCTP (Management Component Transport Protocol) - add user space tag control interface - I2C binding driver (as specified by DMTF DSP0237) - Multi-BSSID beacon handling in AP mode for WiFi. - Bluetooth: - handle MSFT Monitor Device Event - add MGMT Adv Monitor Device Found/Lost events - Multi-Path TCP: - add support for the SO_SNDTIMEO socket option - lots of selftest cleanups and improvements - Increase the max PDU size in CAN ISOTP to 64 kB. asm-generic updates for 5.18
There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. This was already gone from all major architectures, but now we can finally remove it everywhere, which loses some particularly tricky and error-prone code. There is a small merge conflict against a parisc cleanup, the solution is to use their new version. - The nds32 architecture ends its tenure in the Linux kernel. The hardware is still used and the code is in reasonable shape, but the mainline port is not actively maintained any more, as all remaining users are thought to run vendor kernels that would never be updated to a future release. There are some obvious conflicts against changes to the removed files. - A series from Masahiro Yamada cleans up some of the uapi header files to pass the compile-time checks. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmI69BsACgkQmmx57+YA GNn/zA//f4d5VTT0ThhRxRWTu9BdThGHoB8TUcY7iOhbsWu0X/913NItRC3UeWNl IdmisaXgVtirg1dcC2pWUmrcHdoWOCEGfK4+Zr2NhSWfuZDWvODHK9pGWk4WLnhe cQgUNBvIuuAMryGtrOBwHPO4TpfCyy2ioeVP36ZfcsWXdDxTrqfaq/56mk3sxIP6 sUTk1UEjut9NG4C9xIIvcSU50R3l6LryQE/H9kyTLtaSvfvTOvprcVYCq0GPmSzo DtQ1Wwa9zbJ+4EqoMiP5RrgQwWvOTg2iRByLU8ytwlX3e/SEF0uihvMv1FQbL8zG G8RhGUOKQSEhaBfc3lIkm8GpOVPh0uHzB6zhn7daVmAWtazRD2Nu59BMjipa+ims a8Z58iHH7jRAnKeEkVZqXKb1CEiUxaQx/IeVPzN4QlwMhDtwrI76LY7ZJ1zCqTGY ENG0yRLav1XselYBslOYXGtOEWcY5EZPWqLyWbp4P9vz2g0Fe0gZxoIOvPmNQc89 QnfXpCt7vm/DGkyO255myu08GOLeMkisVqUIzLDB9avlym5mri7T7vk9abBa2YyO CRpTL5gl1/qKPWuH1UI5mvhT+sbbBE2SUHSuy84btns39ZKKKynwCtdu+hSQkKLE h9pV30Gf1cLTD4JAE0RWlUgOmbBLVp34loTOexQj4MrLM1noOnw= =vtCN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. Merge branch 'set_fs-4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic into asm-generic
Christoph Hellwig and a few others spent a huge effort on removing set_fs() from most of the important architectures, but about half the other architectures were never completed even though most of them don't actually use set_fs() at all. I did a patch for microblaze at some point, which turned out to be fairly generic, and now ported it to most other architectures, using new generic implementations of access_ok() and __{get,put}_kernel_nocheck(). Three architectures (sparc64, ia64, and sh) needed some extra work, which I also completed. * 'set_fs-4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic: uaccess: remove CONFIG_SET_FS ia64: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support sh: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support sparc64: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support lib/test_lockup: fix kernel pointer check for separate address spaces uaccess: generalize access_ok() uaccess: fix type mismatch warnings from access_ok() arm64: simplify access_ok() m68k: fix access_ok for coldfire MIPS: use simpler access_ok() MIPS: Handle address errors for accesses above CPU max virtual user address uaccess: add generic __{get,put}_kernel_nofault nios2: drop access_ok() check from __put_user() x86: use more conventional access_ok() definition x86: remove __range_not_ok() sparc64: add __{get,put}_kernel_nofault() nds32: fix access_ok() checks in get/put_user uaccess: fix nios2 and microblaze get_user_8() uaccess: fix integer overflow on access_ok() |

uaccess: remove CONFIG_SET_FS
There are no remaining callers of set_fs(), so CONFIG_SET_FS can be removed globally, along with the thread_info field and any references to it. This turns access_ok() into a cheaper check against TASK_SIZE_MAX. As CONFIG_SET_FS is now gone, drop all remaining references to set_fs()/get_fs(), mm_segment_t, user_addr_max() and uaccess_kernel(). sparc64: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support
sparc64 uses address space identifiers to differentiate between kernel and user space, using ASI_P for kernel threads but ASI_AIUS for normal user space, with the option of changing between them. As nothing really changes the ASI any more, just hardcode ASI_AIUS everywhere. Kernel threads are not allowed to access __user pointers anyway. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> |

uaccess: generalize access_ok()
There are many different ways that access_ok() is defined across architectures, but in the end, they all just compare against the user_addr_max() value or they accept anything. Provide one definition that works for most architectures, checking against TASK_SIZE_MAX for user processes or skipping the check inside of uaccess_kernel() sections. For architectures without CONFIG_SET_FS(), this should be the fastest check, as it comes down to a single comparison of a pointer against a compile-time constant, while the architecture specific versions tend to do something more complex for historic reasons or get something wrong. Type checking for __user annotations is handled inconsistently across architectures, but this is easily simplified as well by using an inline function that takes a 'const void __user *' argument. A handful of callers need an extra __user annotation for this. Some architectures had trick to use 33-bit or 65-bit arithmetic on the addresses to calculate the overflow, however this simpler version uses fewer registers, which means it can produce better object code in the end despite needing a second (statically predicted) branch. uaccess: add generic __{get,put}_kernel_nofault
Nine architectures are still missing __{get,put}_kernel_nofault: alpha, ia64, microblaze, nds32, nios2, openrisc, sh, sparc32, xtensa. Add a generic version that lets everything use the normal copy_{from,to}_kernel_nofault() code based on these, removing the last use of get_fs()/set_fs() from architecture-independent code. sparc64: add __{get,put}_kernel_nofault()
sparc64 is one of the architectures that uses separate address spaces for kernel and user addresses, so __get_kernel_nofault() can not just call into the normal __get_user() without the access_ok() check. Instead duplicate __get_user() and __put_user() into their in-kernel versions, with minor changes for the calling conventions and leaving out the address space modifier on the assembler instruction. This could surely be written more elegantly, but duplicating it gets the job done. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> |

treewide: Replace zero-length arrays with flexible-array members
There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. lib/xor: make xor prototypes more friendly to compiler vectorization
Modern compilers are perfectly capable of extracting parallelism from the XOR routines, provided that the prototypes reflect the nature of the input accurately, in particular, the fact that the input vectors are expected not to overlap. This is not documented explicitly, but is implied by the interchangeability of the various C routines, some of which use temporary variables while others don't: this means that these routines only behave identically for non-overlapping inputs. So let's decorate these input vectors with the __restrict modifier, which informs the compiler that there is no overlap. While at it, make the input-only vectors pointer-to-const as well. Merge branch 'per_signal_struct_coredumps-for-v5.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull per signal_struct coredumps from Eric Biederman: "Current coredumps are mixed up with the exit code, the signal handling code, and the ptrace code making coredumps much more complicated than necessary and difficult to follow. This series of changes starts with ptrace_stop and cleans it up, making it easier to follow what is happening in ptrace_stop. Then cleans up the exec interactions with coredumps. Then cleans up the coredump interactions with exit. Finally the coredump interactions with the signal handling code is cleaned up. The first and last changes are bug fixes for minor bugs. I believe the fact that vfork followed by execve can kill the process the called vfork if exec fails is sufficient justification to change the userspace visible behavior. In previous discussions some of these changes were organized differently and individually appeared to make the code base worse. As currently written I believe they all stand on their own as cleanups and bug fixes. Which means that even if the worst should happen and the last change needs to be reverted for some unimaginable reason, the code base will still be improved. If the worst does not happen there are a more cleanups that can be made. Signals that generate coredumps can easily become eligible for short circuit delivery in complete_signal. The entire rendezvous for generating a coredump can move into get_signal. The function force_sig_info_to_task be written in a way that does not modify the signal handling state of the target task (because coredumps are eligible for short circuit delivery). Many of these future cleanups can be done another way but nothing so cleanly as if coredumps become per signal_struct" * 'per_signal_struct_coredumps-for-v5.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: coredump: Limit coredumps to a single thread group coredump: Don't perform any cleanups before dumping core exit: Factor coredump_exit_mm out of exit_mm exec: Check for a pending fatal signal instead of core_state ptrace: Remove the unnecessary arguments from arch_ptrace_stop signal: Remove the bogus sigkill_pending in ptrace_stop |

Tracing updates for 5.16:
- kprobes: Restructured stack unwinder to show properly on x86 when a stack dump happens from a kretprobe callback. - Fix to bootconfig parsing - Have tracefs allow owner and group permissions by default (only denying others). There's been pressure to allow non root to tracefs in a controlled fashion, and using groups is probably the safest. - Bootconfig memory managament updates. - Bootconfig clean up to have the tools directory be less dependent on changes in the kernel tree. - Allow perf to be traced by function tracer. - Rewrite of function graph tracer to be a callback from the function tracer instead of having its own trampoline (this change will happen on an arch by arch basis, and currently only x86_64 implements it). - Allow multiple direct trampolines (bpf hooks to functions) be batched together in one synchronization. - Allow histogram triggers to add variables that can perform calculations against the event's fields. - Use the linker to determine architecture callbacks from the ftrace trampoline to allow for proper parameter prototypes and prevent warnings from the compiler. - Extend histogram triggers to key off of variables. - Have trace recursion use bit magic to determine preempt context over if branches. - Have trace recursion disable preemption as all use cases do anyway. - Added testing for verification of tracing utilities. - Various small clean ups and fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iIoEABYIADIWIQRRSw7ePDh/lE+zeZMp5XQQmuv6qgUCYYBdxhQccm9zdGVkdEBn b29kbWlzLm9yZwAKCRAp5XQQmuv6qp1sAQD2oYFwaG3sx872gj/myBcHIBSKdiki Hry5csd8zYDBpgD+Poylopt5JIbeDuoYw/BedgEXmscZ8Qr7VzjAXdnv/Q4= =Loz8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'trace-v5.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: - kprobes: Restructured stack unwinder to show properly on x86 when a stack dump happens from a kretprobe callback. - Fix to bootconfig parsing - Have tracefs allow owner and group permissions by default (only denying others). ptrace: Remove the unnecessary arguments from arch_ptrace_stop
Both arch_ptrace_stop_needed and arch_ptrace_stop are called with an exit_code and a siginfo structure. Neither argument is used by any of the implementations so just remove the unneeded arguments. The two arechitectures that implement arch_ptrace_stop are ia64 and sparc. Both architectures flush their register stacks before a ptrace_stack so that all of the register information can be accessed by debuggers. As the question of if a register stack needs to be flushed is independent of why ptrace is stopping not needing arguments make sense. sock: allow reading and changing sk_userlocks with setsockopt
SOCK_SNDBUF_LOCK and SOCK_RCVBUF_LOCK flags disable automatic socket buffers adjustment done by kernel (see tcp_fixup_rcvbuf() and tcp_sndbuf_expand()). If we've just created a new socket this adjustment is enabled on it, but if one changes the socket buffer size by setsockopt(SO_{SND,RCV}BUF*) it becomes disabled. CRIU needs to call setsockopt(SO_{SND,RCV}BUF*) on each socket on restore as it first needs to increase buffer sizes for packet queues restore and second it needs to restore back original buffer sizes. So after CRIU restore all sockets become non-auto-adjustable, which can decrease network performance of restored applications significantly. CRIU need to be able to restore sockets with enabled/disabled adjustment to the same state it was before dump, so let's add special setsockopt for it. Let's also export SOCK_SNDBUF_LOCK and SOCK_RCVBUF_LOCK flags to uAPI so that using these interface one can reenable automatic socket buffer adjustment on their sockets. compat: make linux/compat.h available everywhere
Parts of linux/compat.h are under an #ifdef, but we end up using more of those over time, moving things around bit by bit. To get it over with once and for all, make all of this file uncondititonal now so it can be accessed everywhere. There are only a few types left that are in asm/compat.h but not yet in the asm-generic version, so add those in the process. This requires providing a few more types in asm-generic/compat.h that were not already there. The only tricky one is compat_sigset_t, which needs a little help on 32-bit architectures and for x86. locking/atomic: sparc: Fix arch_cmpxchg64_local()
Anatoly reports that since commit: ff5b4f1ed580c59d ("locking/atomic: sparc: move to ARCH_ATOMIC") ... it's possible to reliably trigger an oops by running: stress-ng -v --mmap 1 -t 30s ... which results in a NULL pointer dereference in __split_huge_pmd_locked(). The underlying problem is that commit ff5b4f1ed580c59d left arch_cmpxchg64_local() defined in terms of cmpxchg_local() rather than arch_cmpxchg_local(). In <asm-generic/atomic-instrumented.h> we wrap these with macros which use identically-named variables. When cmpxchg_local() nests inside cmpxchg64_local(), this casues it to use an unitialized variable as the pointer, which can be NULL. This can also be seen in pmdp_establish(), where the compiler can generate the pointer with a `clr` instruction: 0000000000000360 <pmdp_establish>: 360: 9d e3 bf 50 save %sp, -176, %sp 364: fa 5e 80 00 ldx [ %i2 ], %i5 368: 82 10 00 1b mov %i3, %g1 36c: 84 10 20 00 clr %g2 370: c3 f0 90 1d casx [ %g2 ], %i5, %g1 374: 80 a7 40 01 cmp %i5, %g1 378: 32 6f ff fc bne,a %xcc, 368 <pmdp_establish+0x8> 37c: fa 5e 80 00 ldx [ %i2 ], %i5 380: d0 5e 20 40 ldx [ %i0 + 0x40 ], %o0 384: 96 10 00 1b mov %i3, %o3 388: 94 10 00 1d mov %i5, %o2 38c: 92 10 00 19 mov %i1, %o1 390: 7f ff ff 84 call 1a0 <__set_pmd_acct> 394: b0 10 00 1d mov %i5, %i0 398: 81 cf e0 08 return %i7 + 8 39c: 01 00 00 00 nop This patch fixes the problem by defining arch_cmpxchg64_local() in terms of arch_cmpxchg_local(), avoiding potential shadowing, and resulting in working cmpxchg64_local() and variants, e.g. 0000000000000360 <pmdp_establish>: 360: 9d e3 bf 50 save %sp, -176, %sp 364: fa 5e 80 00 ldx [ %i2 ], %i5 368: 82 10 00 1b mov %i3, %g1 36c: c3 f6 90 1d casx [ %i2 ], %i5, %g1 370: 80 a7 40 01 cmp %i5, %g1 374: 32 6f ff fd bne,a %xcc, 368 <pmdp_establish+0x8> 378: fa 5e 80 00 ldx [ %i2 ], %i5 37c: d0 5e 20 40 ldx [ %i0 + 0x40 ], %o0 380: 96 10 00 1b mov %i3, %o3 384: 94 10 00 1d mov %i5, %o2 388: 92 10 00 19 mov %i1, %o1 38c: 7f ff ff 85 call 1a0 <__set_pmd_acct> 390: b0 10 00 1d mov %i5, %i0 394: 81 cf e0 08 return %i7 + 8 398: 01 00 00 00 nop 39c: 01 00 00 00 nop Fixes: ff5b4f1ed580c59d ("locking/atomic: sparc: move to ARCH_ATOMIC") Reported-by: Anatoly Pugachev <matorola@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org> Tested-by: Anatoly Pugachev <matorola@gmail.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210707083032.567-1-mark.rutland@arm.com |

asm-generic/unaligned: Unify asm/unaligned.h around struct helper
The get_unaligned()/put_unaligned() helpers are traditionally architecture specific, with the two main variants being the "access-ok.h" version that assumes unaligned pointer accesses always work on a particular architecture, and the "le-struct.h" version that casts the data to a byte aligned type before dereferencing, for architectures that cannot always do unaligned accesses in hardware. Based on the discussion linked below, it appears that the access-ok version is not realiable on any architecture, but the struct version probably has no downsides. This series changes the code to use the same implementation on all architectures, addressing the few exceptions separately. mm/thp: define default pmd_pgtable()
Currently most platforms define pmd_pgtable() as pmd_page() duplicating the same code all over. Instead just define a default value i.e pmd_page() for pmd_pgtable() and let platforms override when required via <asm/pgtable.h>. All the existing platform that override pmd_pgtable() have been moved into their respective <asm/pgtable.h> header in order to precede before the new generic definition. This makes it much cleaner with reduced code. mm: define default value for FIRST_USER_ADDRESS
Currently most platforms define FIRST_USER_ADDRESS as 0UL duplication the same code all over. Instead just define a generic default value (i.e 0UL) for FIRST_USER_ADDRESS and let the platforms override when required. This makes it much cleaner with reduced code.
