db55911782 bpf: Consolidate spin_lock, timer management into btf_record
Now that kptr_off_tab has been refactored into btf_record, and can hold
more than one specific field type, accomodate bpf_spin_lock and
bpf_timer as well.

While they don't require any more metadata than offset, having all
special fields in one place allows us to share the same code for
allocated user defined types and handle both map values and these
allocated objects in a similar fashion.

As an optimization, we still keep spin_lock_off and timer_off offsets in
the btf_record structure, just to avoid having to find the btf_field
struct each time their offset is needed. This is mostly needed to
manipulate such objects in a map value at runtime. It's ok to hardcode
just one offset as more than one field is disallowed.

992c9e13f5 bpf: Make __GFP_NOWARN consistent in bpf map creation
Some of the bpf maps are created with __GFP_NOWARN, i.e. arraymap,
bloom_filter, bpf_local_storage, bpf_struct_ops, lpm_trie,
queue_stack_maps, reuseport_array, stackmap and xskmap, while others are
created without __GFP_NOWARN, i.e. cpumap, devmap, hashtab,
local_storage, offload, ringbuf and sock_map. But there are not key
differences between the creation of these maps. So let make this
allocation flag consistent in all bpf maps creation. Then we can use a
generic helper to alloc all bpf maps.

ace2bee839 bpf: Make non-preallocated allocation low priority
GFP_ATOMIC doesn't cooperate well with memcg pressure so far, especially
if we allocate too much GFP_ATOMIC memory. For example, when we set the
memcg limit to limit a non-preallocated bpf memory, the GFP_ATOMIC can
easily break the memcg limit by force charge. So it is very dangerous to
use GFP_ATOMIC in non-preallocated case. One way to make it safe is to
remove __GFP_HIGH from GFP_ATOMIC, IOW, use (__GFP_ATOMIC |
__GFP_KSWAPD_RECLAIM) instead, then it will be limited if we allocate
too much memory. There's a plan to completely remove __GFP_ATOMIC in the
mm side[1], so let's use GFP_NOWAIT instead.

We introduced BPF_F_NO_PREALLOC is because full map pre-allocation is
too memory expensive for some cases. That means removing __GFP_HIGH
doesn't break the rule of BPF_F_NO_PREALLOC, but has the same goal with
it-avoiding issues caused by too much memory. So let's remove it.

This fix can also apply to other run-time allocations, for example, the
allocation in lpm trie, local storage and devmap. So let fix it
consistently over the bpf code

It also fixes a typo in the comment.

Current max cgroup storage value size is 4k (PAGE_SIZE). The other local

For percpu, the max is 32k (PCPU_MIN_UNIT_SIZE) because percpu

c7603cfa04 bpf: Add ambient BPF runtime context stored in current
b910eaaaa4 ("bpf: Fix NULL pointer dereference in bpf_get_local_storage()
helper") fixed the problem with cgroup-local storage use in BPF by
pre-allocating per-CPU array of 8 cgroup storage pointers to accommodate
possible BPF program preemptions and nested executions.

While this seems to work good in practice, it introduces new and unnecessary
failure mode in which not all BPF programs might be executed if we fail to
find an unused slot for cgroup storage, however unlikely it is. It might also
not be so unlikely when/if we allow sleepable cgroup BPF programs in the
future.

Further, the way that cgroup storage is implemented as ambiently-available
property during entire BPF program execution is a convenient way to pass extra
information to BPF program and helpers without requiring user code to pass
around extra arguments explicitly. So it would be good to have a generic
solution that can allow implementing this without arbitrary restrictions.
Ideally, such solution would work for both preemptable and sleepable BPF
programs in exactly the same way.

This patch introduces such solution, bpf_run_ctx. It adds one pointer field
(bpf_ctx) to task_struct. This field is maintained by BPF_PROG_RUN family of
macros in such a way that it always stays valid throughout BPF program
execution. BPF program preemption is handled by remembering previous
current->bpf_ctx value locally while executing nested BPF program and
restoring old value after nested BPF program finishes. This is handled by two
helper functions, bpf_set_run_ctx() and bpf_reset_run_ctx(), which are
supposed to be used before and after BPF program runs, respectively.

Restoring old value of the pointer handles preemption, while bpf_run_ctx
pointer being a property of current task_struct naturally solves this problem
for sleepable BPF programs by "following" BPF program execution as it is
scheduled in and out of CPU. It would even allow CPU migration of BPF
programs, even though it's not currently allowed by BPF infra.

This patch cleans up cgroup local storage handling as a first application. The
design itself is generic, though, with bpf_run_ctx being an empty struct that
is supposed to be embedded into a specific struct for a given BPF program type
(bpf_cg_run_ctx in this case). Follow up patches are planned that will expand
this mechanism for other uses within tracing BPF programs.

To verify that this change doesn't revert the fix to the original cgroup
storage issue, I ran the same repro as in the original report ([0]) and didn't
get any problems. Replacing bpf_reset_run_ctx(old_run_ctx) with
bpf_reset_run_ctx(NULL) triggers the issue pretty quickly (so repro does work).

68134668c1 bpf: Add map side support for bpf timers.
Restrict bpf timers to array, hash (both preallocated and kmalloced), and
lru map types. The per-cpu maps with timers don't make sense, since 'struct
bpf_timer' is a part of map value. bpf timers in per-cpu maps would mean that
the number of timers depends on number of possible cpus and timers would not be
accessible from all cpus. lpm map support can be added in the future.
The timers in inner maps are supported.

The bpf_map_update/delete_elem() helpers and sys_bpf commands cancel and free
bpf_timer in a given map element.

Similar to 'struct bpf_spin_lock' BTF is required and it is used to validate
that map element indeed contains 'struct bpf_timer'.

Make check_and_init_map_value() init both bpf_spin_lock and bpf_timer when
map element data is reused in preallocated htab and lru maps.

Teach copy_map_value() to support both bpf_spin_lock and bpf_timer in a single
map element. There could be one of each, but not more than one. Due to 'one
bpf_timer in one element' restriction do not support timers in global data,
since global data is a map of single element, but from bpf program side it's
seen as many global variables and restriction of single global timer would be
odd. The sys_bpf map_freeze and sys_mmap syscalls are not allowed on maps with
timers, since user space could have corrupted mmap element and crashed the
kernel. The maps with timers cannot be readonly. Due to these restrictions
search for bpf_timer in datasec BTF in case it was placed in the global data to
report clear error.

The previous patch allowed 'struct bpf_timer' as a first field in a map
element only. Relax this restriction.

Refactor lru map to s/bpf_lru_push_free/htab_lru_push_free/ to cancel and free
the timer when lru map deletes an element as a part of it eviction algorithm.

Make sure that bpf program cannot access 'struct bpf_timer' via direct load/store.
The timer operation are done through helpers only.
This is similar to 'struct bpf_spin_lock'.

b910eaaaa4 bpf: Fix NULL pointer dereference in bpf_get_local_storage() helper
Jiri Olsa reported a bug ([1]) in kernel where cgroup local
storage pointer may be NULL in bpf_get_local_storage() helper.
There are two issues uncovered by this bug:
(1). kprobe or tracepoint prog incorrectly sets cgroup local storage
       before prog run,
(2). due to change from preempt_disable to migrate_disable,
preemption is possible and percpu storage might be overwritten
       by other tasks.

This issue (1) is fixed in [2]. This patch tried to address issue (2).
The following shows how things can go wrong:
task 1: bpf_cgroup_storage_set() for percpu local storage
         preemption happens
task 2: bpf_cgroup_storage_set() for percpu local storage
         preemption happens
  task 1: run bpf program

task 1 will effectively use the percpu local storage setting by task 2
which will be either NULL or incorrect ones.

Instead of just one common local storage per cpu, this patch fixed
the issue by permitting 8 local storages per cpu and each local
storage is identified by a task_struct pointer. This way, we
allow at most 8 nested preemption between bpf_cgroup_storage_set()
and bpf_cgroup_storage_unset(). The percpu local storage slot
is released (calling bpf_cgroup_storage_unset()) by the same task
after bpf program finished running.
bpf_test_run() is also fixed to use the new bpf_cgroup_storage_set()
interface.

The patch is tested on top of [2] with reproducer in [1].
Without this patch, kernel will emit error in 2-3 minutes.
With this patch, after one hour, still no error.

7d9c342789 bpf: Make cgroup storages shared between programs on the same cgroup
This change comes in several parts:

One, the restriction that the CGROUP_STORAGE map can only be used
by one program is removed. This results in the removal of the field
'aux' in struct bpf_cgroup_storage_map, and removal of relevant
code associated with the field, and removal of now-noop functions
bpf_free_cgroup_storage and bpf_cgroup_storage_release.

Second, we permit a key of type u64 as the key to the map.
Providing such a key type indicates that the map should ignore
attach type when comparing map keys. However, for simplicity newly
linked storage will still have the attach type at link time in
its key struct. cgroup_storage_check_btf is adapted to accept
u64 as the type of the key.

Third, because the storages are now shared, the storages cannot
be unconditionally freed on program detach. There could be two
ways to solve this issue:
* A. Reference count the usage of the storages, and free when the
     last program is detached.
* B. Free only when the storage is impossible to be referred to
again, i.e. when either the cgroup_bpf it is attached to, or
     the map itself, is freed.
Option A has the side effect that, when the user detach and
reattach a program, whether the program gets a fresh storage
depends on whether there is another program attached using that
storage. This could trigger races if the user is multi-threaded,
and since nondeterminism in data races is evil, go with option B.

The both the map and the cgroup_bpf now tracks their associated
storages, and the storage unlink and free are removed from
cgroup_bpf_detach and added to cgroup_bpf_release and
cgroup_storage_map_free. The latter also new holds the cgroup_mutex
to prevent any races with the former.

Fourth, on attach, we reuse the old storage if the key already
exists in the map, via cgroup_storage_lookup. If the storage
does not exist yet, we create a new one, and publish it at the
last step in the attach process. This does not create a race
condition because for the whole attach the cgroup_mutex is held.
We keep track of an array of new storages that was allocated
and if the process fails only the new storages would get freed.

e47304232b bpf: Fix cgroup local storage prog tracking
Recently noticed that we're tracking programs related to local storage maps
through their prog pointer. This is a wrong assumption since the prog pointer
can still change throughout the verification process, for example, whenever
bpf_patch_insn_single() is called.

Therefore, the prog pointer that was assigned via bpf_cgroup_storage_assign()
is not guaranteed to be the same as we pass in bpf_cgroup_storage_release()
and the map would therefore remain in busy state forever. Fix this by using
the prog's aux pointer which is stable throughout verification and beyond.

743210386c cgroup: use cgrp->kn->id as the cgroup ID
cgroup ID is currently allocated using a dedicated per-hierarchy idr
and used internally and exposed through tracepoints and bpf. This is
confusing because there are tracepoints and other interfaces which use
the cgroupfs ino as IDs.

The preceding changes made kn->id exposed as ino as 64bit ino on
supported archs or ino+gen (low 32bits as ino, high gen). There's no
reason for cgroup to use different IDs. The kernfs IDs are unique and
userland can easily discover them and map them back to paths using
standard file operations.

This patch replaces cgroup IDs with kernfs IDs.

* cgroup_id() is added and all cgroup ID users are converted to use it.

* kernfs_node creation is moved to earlier during cgroup init so that
  cgroup_id() is available during init.

* While at it, s/cgroup/cgrp/ in psi helpers for consistency.

* Fallback ID value is changed to 1 to be consistent with root cgroup
  ID.

67c0496e87 kernfs: convert kernfs_node->id from union kernfs_node_id to u64
kernfs_node->id is currently a union kernfs_node_id which represents
either a 32bit (ino, gen) pair or u64 value. I can't see much value
in the usage of the union - all that's needed is a 64bit ID which the
current code is already limited to. Using a union makes the code
unnecessarily complicated and prevents using 64bit ino without adding
practical benefits.

This patch drops union kernfs_node_id and makes kernfs_node->id a u64.
ino is stored in the lower 32bits and gen upper. Accessors -
kernfs[_id]_ino() and kernfs[_id]_gen() - are added to retrieve the
ino and gen. This simplifies ID handling less cumbersome and will
allow using 64bit inos on supported archs.

This patch doesn't make any functional changes.

b936ca643a bpf: rework memlock-based memory accounting for maps
In order to unify the existing memlock charging code with the
memcg-based memory accounting, which will be added later, let's
rework the current scheme.

Currently the following design is used:
  1) .alloc() callback optionally checks if the allocation will likely
     succeed using bpf_map_precharge_memlock()
  2) .alloc() performs actual allocations
  3) .alloc() callback calculates map cost and sets map.memory.pages
  4) map_create() calls bpf_map_init_memlock() which sets map.memory.user
and performs actual charging; in case of failure the map is
     destroyed
  <map is in use>
  1) bpf_map_free_deferred() calls bpf_map_release_memlock(), which
performs uncharge and releases the user
  2) .map_free() callback releases the memory

The scheme can be simplified and made more robust:
  1) .alloc() calculates map cost and calls bpf_map_charge_init()
  2) bpf_map_charge_init() sets map.memory.user and performs actual
    charge
  3) .alloc() performs actual allocations
  <map is in use>
  1) .map_free() callback releases the memory
  2) bpf_map_charge_finish() performs uncharge and releases the user

The new scheme also allows to reuse bpf_map_charge_init()/finish()
functions for memcg-based accounting. Because charges are performed
before actual allocations and uncharges after freeing the memory,
no bogus memory pressure can be created.

In cases when the map structure is not available (e.g. it's not
created yet, or is already destroyed), on-stack bpf_map_memory
structure is used. The charge can be transferred with the
bpf_map_charge_move() function.

591fe9888d bpf: add program side {rd, wr}only support for maps
This work adds two new map creation flags BPF_F_RDONLY_PROG
and BPF_F_WRONLY_PROG in order to allow for read-only or
write-only BPF maps from a BPF program side.

Today we have BPF_F_RDONLY and BPF_F_WRONLY, but this only
applies to system call side, meaning the BPF program has full
read/write access to the map as usual while bpf(2) calls with
map fd can either only read or write into the map depending
on the flags. BPF_F_RDONLY_PROG and BPF_F_WRONLY_PROG allows
for the exact opposite such that verifier is going to reject
program loads if write into a read-only map or a read into a
write-only map is detected. For read-only map case also some
helpers are forbidden for programs that would alter the map
state such as map deletion, update, etc. As opposed to the two
BPF_F_RDONLY / BPF_F_WRONLY flags, BPF_F_RDONLY_PROG as well
as BPF_F_WRONLY_PROG really do correspond to the map lifetime.

We've enabled this generic map extension to various non-special
maps holding normal user data: array, hash, lru, lpm, local
storage, queue and stack. Further generic map types could be
followed up in future depending on use-case. Main use case
here is to forbid writes into .rodata map values from verifier
side.

96049f3afd bpf: introduce BPF_F_LOCK flag
Introduce BPF_F_LOCK flag for map_lookup and map_update syscall commands
and for map_update() helper function.
In all these cases take a lock of existing element (which was provided
in BTF description) before copying (in or out) the rest of map value.

Implementation details that are part of uapi:

Array:
The array map takes the element lock for lookup/update.

Hash:
hash map also takes the lock for lookup/update and tries to avoid the bucket lock.
If old element exists it takes the element lock and updates the element in place.
If element doesn't exist it allocates new one and inserts into hash table
while holding the bucket lock.
In rare case the hashmap has to take both the bucket lock and the element lock
to update old value in place.

Cgroup local storage:
It is similar to array. update in place and lookup are done with lock taken.

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-10-08

The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.

The main changes are:

1) sk_lookup_[tcp|udp] and sk_release helpers from Joe Stringer which allow
BPF programs to perform lookups for sockets in a network namespace. This would
allow programs to determine early on in processing whether the stack is
expecting to receive the packet, and perform some action (eg drop,
forward somewhere) based on this information.

2) per-cpu cgroup local storage from Roman Gushchin.
Per-cpu cgroup local storage is very similar to simple cgroup storage
except all the data is per-cpu. The main goal of per-cpu variant is to
implement super fast counters (e.g. packet counters), which don't require
neither lookups, neither atomic operations in a fast path.
The example of these hybrid counters is in selftests/bpf/netcnt_prog.c

3) allow HW offload of programs with BPF-to-BPF function calls from Quentin Monnet

4) support more than 64-byte key/value in HW offloaded BPF maps from Jakub Kicinski

5) rename of libbpf interfaces from Andrey Ignatov.
libbpf is maturing as a library and should follow good practices in
library design and implementation to play well with other libraries.
This patch set brings consistent naming convention to global symbols.

6) relicense libbpf as LGPL-2.1 OR BSD-2-Clause from Alexei Starovoitov
to let Apache2 projects use libbpf

7) various AF_XDP fixes from Björn and Magnus

e8d2bec045 bpf: decouple btf from seq bpf fs dump and enable more maps
Commit a26ca7c982 ("bpf: btf: Add pretty print support to

print for hash/lru_hash maps") enabled support for BTF and
dumping via BPF fs for array and hash/lru map. However, both
can be decoupled from each other such that regular BPF maps
can be supported for attaching BTF key/value information,
while not all maps necessarily need to dump via map_seq_show_elem()
callback.

The basic sanity check which is a prerequisite for all maps
is that key/value size has to match in any case, and some maps
can have extra checks via map_check_btf() callback, e.g.
probing certain types or indicating no support in general. With
that we can also enable retrieving BTF info for per-cpu map
types and lpm.
