Here is the set of driver core changes for 5.18-rc1.
Not much here, primarily it was a bunch of cleanups and small updates:
- kobj_type cleanups for default_groups
- documentation updates
- firmware loader minor changes
- component common helper added and take advantage of it in many
drivers (the largest part of this pull request).
There will be a merge conflict in drivers/power/supply/ab8500_chargalg.c
with your tree, the merge conflict should be easy (take all the
changes).
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
problems.

The commit feeb07d0ca5a ("drm/hisilicon/hibmc: Make CONFIG_DRM_HISI_HIBMC
depend on ARM64") made the driver Kconfig symbol to depend on ARM64 since
it only supports that architecture and loading the module on others would
lead to incorrect video modes being used.
But it also prevented the driver to be built on other architectures which
is useful to have compile test coverage when doing subsystem wide changes.
Make the dependency instead to be (ARM64 || COMPILE_TEST), so the driver
is buildable when the CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST option is enabled.

Without proper care and an agreement between how DSI hosts and devices
drivers register their MIPI-DSI entities and potential components, we can
end up in a situation where the drivers can never probe.
Most drivers were taking evasive maneuvers to try to workaround this,
but not all of them were following the same conventions, resulting in
various incompatibilities between DSI hosts and devices.
Now that we have a sequence agreed upon and documented, let's convert
kirin to it.

Many drivers reference the plane->state pointer in order to get the
current plane state in their atomic_update or atomic_disable hooks,
which would be the new plane state in the global atomic state since
_swap_state happened when those hooks are run.
Use the drm_atomic_get_new_plane_state helper to get that state to make it
more obvious.

an argument or the full atomic state.
The former is the pattern that was done at first, before switching to the
latter for new hooks or when it was needed.
Let's convert all the remaining helpers to provide a consistent

Only the following drivers aren't converted:
- amdgpu, because of the driver_feature mangling due to virt support.
Subsequent patch will address this.
- nouveau, because DRIVER_ATOMIC uapi is still not the default on the
platforms where it's supported (i.e. again driver_feature mangling)
- vc4, again because of driver_feature mangling
- qxl, because the ioctl table is somewhere else and moving that is
maybe a bit too much, hence the num_ioctls assignment prevents a
const driver structure.
- arcpgu, because that is stuck behind a pending tiny-fication series
from me.
- legacy drivers, because legacy requires non-const drm_driver.
Note that for armada I also went ahead and made the ioctl array const.
Only cc'ing the driver people who've not been converted (everyone else
is way too much).
