In wacom_bpt_pen, we checked touch_down before assigning new
stylus_in_proximity value. This would cause stylus_in_proximity not updated
properly if touch is down before pen is in proximity.

The quirk was added for devices that support both pen and touch. It decides if
a device supports multiple inputs by hardcoded feature type. However, for some
devices, we do not know if they support both before accessing their HID
descriptors.
This patch relies on dynamically assigned device_type to make the decision.
Also, we make it certain that wacom_wac->shared is always created. That is, the
driver will not be loaded if it fails to create wacom_wac->shared.

If noone listens to the input device when a tool comes in proximity,
the tablet does not send the in-prox event when a client becomes available.
That means that no events will be sent until the tool is taken out of
proximity.
In this situation, ask for the report WACOM_REPORT_INTUOSREAD which will
read the corresponding feature and generate an in-prox event.
To make some generation of hardware working, we need to unset the
quirk NO_GET set by hid-core because the interfaces are seen as "boot
mouse".
We don't schedule this read in a worker while we are in an IO interrupt.
We know that usbhid will do it asynchronously. If this is triggered by
uhid, then this is obviously a client side bug :)

For defining enumeration values like report or power status events, the
enumeration usage ids are enclosed in a logical collection. In this case we
need to match logical usage id for pending read on this usage id. For example,
in the below field, when read is requested for 0319, the report will
contain one of the status usages like 850, 851 etc. In this case the raw
event will not match 0319. So when logical collection matches, then wake
up the pending thread.

The PID driver (usbhid/hid-pidff.c) does not set the effect ID when
uploading an effect. The result is that the initial upload works but
subsequent uploads to modify effect parameters are all directed at the
last-created effect.
The targeted effect ID must be passed back to the device when effect
parameters are changed. This is done at the start of
"pidff_set_condition_report", "pidff_set_periodic_report" etc. based on
the value of "pidff->block_load[PID_EFFECT_
BLOCK_INDEX].value[0]".
This value is only ever set during pidff_request_effect_upload.
The result is stored in "pidff->pid_id[effect->id]" at the end of
pid_upload_effect, for later use. However, if an effect is modified and
re-sent then this identifier is not being copied back from
pidff->pid_id[effect->id] before sending the command to the device. The
fix is to do this at the start of pidff_upload_effect.

Many HID driver options are hidden unless EXPERT is set. While I
understand the idea of simplifying the kernel configuration for most
users, in practice I believe it adds more confusion than it helps.
One thing that worries me is that, in non-EXPERT mode, these drivers
will be either built-in or modular based on apparent magic. For
example, switching INPUT and HID from m to y will cause all these
drivers to be built into the kernel when they were previously built
as modules. Short of enabling EXPERT mode altogether, the user has no
control over that.
Generally I do not think tristate options should depend on !EXPERT.
Of these, 11 of 15 are currently in the hid subsystem.
The HID_LOGITECH option is even worse than the others. Sub-options
depend on it, and this causes menuconfig and friends to display the
option even though the user can't change its value. The help page for
HID_LOGITECH will not explain why the value can't be changed. It only
says, for example:
Depends on: INPUT [=y] && HID [=y]
and that leaves the user puzzled about why the option is forced to y.
You might argue that this is a Kconfig bug, but that doesn't make it
less annoying for the user.
Even worse is that some of the sub-options of HID_LOGITECH select
INPUT_FF_MEMLESS, which in turn gets out of control for the user. So,
if you set INPUT=y and HID=y (something most general purpose
distributions would do these days, as both modules would get loaded on
a vast majority of systems otherwise), and you want support for
force-feedback game controllers, you can't have that as a module, it
has to be built-in, regardless of how rare these devices are.
Of course, all this madness goes away once EXPERT is enabled, but then
the rest of the kernel configuration becomes more complex, which
totally voids the original point.
For this reason, I would like all HID device tristate options to be
displayed regardless of EXPERT being set or not. We can let the
default settings still depend on EXPERT, that's not intrusive.

The linux kernel has supported the TiVo Slide remote control for some time, but
does not recognize the USB ID of the newer Slide Pro. This patch adds the
missing data structures so the newer remote will be recognized by the driver,
thereby allowing the TiVo, LiveTV, and Thumbs Up/Down buttons to be
mapped with a hwdb file.

Change the ownership of power_supply structure from each driver
implementing the class to the power supply core.
The patch changes power_supply_register() function thus all drivers
implementing power supply class are adjusted.
Each driver provides the implementation of power supply. However it
should not be the owner of power supply class instance because it is
exposed by core to other subsystems with power_supply_get_by_name().
These other subsystems have no knowledge when the driver will unregister
the power supply. This leads to several issues when driver is unbound -
mostly because user of power supply accesses freed memory.
Instead let the core own the instance of struct 'power_supply'. Other
users of this power supply will still access valid memory because it
will be freed when device reference count reaches 0. Currently this
means "it will leak" but power_supply_put() call in next patches will
solve it.
This solves invalid memory references in following race condition
scenario:

unbound and struct 'power_supply' memory was freed.

Add new structure 'power_supply_config' for holding run-time
initialization data like of_node, supplies and private driver data.
The power_supply_register() function is changed so all power supply
drivers need updating.
When registering the power supply this new 'power_supply_config' should be
used instead of directly initializing 'struct power_supply'. This allows
changing the ownership of power_supply structure from driver to the
power supply core in next patches.
When a driver does not use of_node or supplies then it should use NULL
as config. If driver uses of_node or supplies then it should allocate
config on stack and initialize it with proper values.

According to [1], Windows Precision Touchpad devices must supply
a button type usage in the device capabilities feature report. A
value of 0 indicates that the device contains a depressible
button (i.e. it's a click-pad) whereas a value of 1 indicates
a non-depressible button. Add support for this usage and set
INPUT_PROP_BUTTONPAD on the touchpad input device whenever a
depressible button is present.

Declare the POWER_SUPPLY_PROP_PRESENT property to provide userspace
with a way to determine if the battery on a wireless tablet is plugged
in. Although current wireless tablets do not explicitly report this
information, it can be inferred from other state information. In
particular, a battery is assumed to be present if any of the following
are true: a non-zero battery level reported, the battery is reported as
charging, or the tablet is operating wirelessly.
Note: The last condition above may not strictly hold for the Graphire
Wireless (it charges from a DC barrel jack instead of a USB port), but I
do not know what is reported in the no-battery condition.

The status packet for tablets which can use a wireless module contains a
bit that is set if the battery is charging. This bit will be 0 if either
a battery is not present or if the battery has reached full charge. Note
that the charging circuit may continue to charge the battery for a short
time after reaching "100%".

If a wireless adapter (which contains the charging circuitry) is
detected as being attached to the tablet then create a new battery
interface and update its status as data is reported. Also destroy the
battery if the adapter goes away.

Tablets like the Intuos, Intuos Pro, and Bamboo have a connector for an
optional wireless module that can be connected on the fly. The presence
(or absence) of this module is indicated in a status report recieved
from the tablet. This patch adds a workqueue function that will create
or destroy a power_supply object at runtime to match the current state
of the WACOM_QUIRK_BATTERY flag.

In addition to the touchswitch state for "Intuos", these packets are
also sent by the Intuos Pro, Intuos5, and last-generation Bamboo
tablets when using a wired connection. They contain, among other
things, information about the optional wireless module and battery
charge state (to be supported in subsuquent patches).

Currently HID code maps usages from telephony page into BTN_0, BTN_1, etc
keys which get interpreted by mousedev and userspace as left/right/middle
button clicks, which is not really helpful.
This change adds mappings for usages that have corresponding input event
definitions, and leaves the rest unmapped. This can be changed when
there are userspace consumers for more telephony usages.

This hack is only needed for Huion tablets. It does not seem to have
any effect on the other tablets handled by this device right now, but
it's better to check for the product id sooner than discovering that
we have messed up one tablet later.

NO_EMPTY_INPUT is useful when MULTI_INPUT is set. It prevents to create
empty input nodes that user space does not know what to do with.
It does not seem to be required at the moment, this is just a preventive
patch. This check is only made during the plug of the device, so it does
not hurt to have it.

We append "Pen", "Pad", "Mouse", "Keyboard", "Consumer Control" or
"System Control" suffix to the appropriate input node to match what
the Wacom driver does and be more convenient for the user to know
which one is which.

Most of the tablets handled by hid-uclogic already use MULTI_INPUT.
For the ones which are not quirked in usbhid/hidquirks, they have a
custom report descriptor which contains only one report per HID
interface. For those tablets HID_QUIRK_MULTI_INPUT is transparent.
According to https://github.com/DIGImend/tablets, the only problematic
tablet currently handled by hid-uclogic is the TWHA60 v3. This tablet
presents different report descriptors from the ones currently quirked.
This is not a problem per se, given that this tablet is not supported
currently in this version (it needs the same command as a Huion to
start forwarding events).

touch_down is a flag to indicate if there are touches on tablet
or not. Since one set of touch events may be posted over more
than one data packet/touch frame, and pen may come in proximity
while touch events are partially sent, counting all touch events
for the set reflects the actual status of touch_down.

If pen comes in proximity while touch is down, we force touch up
before sending pen events. Otherwise, there can be unfinished
touch events compete with pen events. This idea has been fully
implemented for Tablet PCs. But other tablets that support both
pen and touch are not fully considered.

The stylus of this device works just fine out of the box.
The touch is seen by default as a mouse with relative events and some
gestures.
The wireless and the wired version have slightly different firmwares, but
the debug mode 2 on the feature 2 is common to the 2 devices. In this mode,
all the reports are emitted through the debug interface (pen, raw touch
and mouse emulation), so we have to re-route manually the events.
We keep the Pen interface as a HID_GENERIC one because it works, and only
parse the raw touches while discarding the mouse emulation & gestures.
Switching the default in raw mode allows us to have a consistent user
experience accross all the multitouch touchpads (and enable the touch part
of the devices).
Note that the buttons of this devices are reported through the touch
interface. There is no 'Pad' interface. It seemed more natural to have
the BTN_LEFT and BTN_RIGHT reported with the touch because they are
placed under the touch interface and it looks like they belong to the
touch part.

The Bamboo PAD in debug mode needs to re-route events from the debug
interface to the Pen interface. This can be easily done with
hid_input_report(), but that means that we need to keep a reference to
the various hid_devices.
There should be only one touch and one pen interface per physical tablet,
so there is no need to keep a list of hid-devices, plain pointers are
sufficient.

A touchpad may have firmware based palm detection code enabled which
suppresses 2D data from being reported when the firmware believes a palm is
on the touchpad. This functionality is meant to be used in mouse mode without
a driver. When a driver is present, the driver can do a better job of
determining if a contact is a palm. If this gesture is enabled on a touchpad
operating in rmi mode then the firmware will not properly clear the palm detect
interrupt, causing the touchpad to interrupt indefinately. This patch disables
the palm detect gesture when the touchpad is operating in rmi mode.

When a finger is lifted from a Synaptics touchpad the firmware will continue
to interrupts for up to a second. These additional interrupts are know and
dribble interrupts. Since the data read from the touchpad does not change
the input subsystem only reports a single event. This makes the servicing of
dribble interrupts on Linux unnecessary. This patch simply disables dribble
interupts when configuring the touchpad.

The HID over I2C specification allows to have the interrupt for a HID
device to be GPIO instead of directly connected to the IO-APIC.
Add support for this so that when the driver does not find proper interrupt
number from the I2C client structure we check if it has ACPI GpioInt()
resource listed in _CRS. If it is found we convert it to an interrupt
number and use it instead.

This commit exposes in sysfs the HID country code that is stored in the country
member of hid_device structure. It identifies the country code of localized
hardware.
For example some keyboards use it to exhibit the language of the key layout. It
helps the upper layer to identify the localized hardware and setup the correct
language to use.
For USB HID devices the country code comes for the HID descriptor and for
Bluetooth HID devices it is the HIDCountryCode attribute from the SDP database.

Microsoft Natural Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard 7000 has special My
Favorites 1..5 keys which are handled through a vendor-defined usage
page (0xff05).
Apply MS_ERGONOMY quirks handling to USB PID 0x071d (Microsoft Microsoft
2.4GHz Transceiver V1.0) so that the My Favorites 1..5 keys are reported
as KEY_F14..18 events.

Add additional flag to read in async mode. In this mode the caller will get
reply via registered callback for capture_sample. Callbacks can be registered
using sensor_hub_register_callback function. The usage id parameter of the
capture_sample can be matched with the usage id of the requested attribute.

Section 4.2.5 of HID Sensor hub specification allows two methods
defining sensor devices.
- Each sensor device by its own collection
- A top level application collection object, including multiple
sensors.
In the first method, each sensor can be in its own sensor application
collection without a physical collection.
In the second method there is a usage id for collection type, which
is defined as an application collection, with multiple physical
collections in it. It is possible to define fusion sensor with this
and may have its own handler. If there is a callback registered
for the collection type, then forward all reports for sensors in
its collection to this handler.

Current implementation only allows one outstanding synchronous read.
This is a performance hit when user mode is requesting raw reads
of sensor attributes on multiple sensors together.
This change changes the mutex lock to per hid sensor hub device instead
of global lock. Although request to hid sensor hub is serialized, there
can be multiple outstanding read requests pending for responses via
hid reports.

d1c7e29e8d (HID: i2c-hid: prevent buffer overflow in early IRQ)
changed hid_get_input() to read ihid->bufsize bytes, which can be
more than wMaxInputLength. This is the case with the Dell XPS 13
9343, and it is causing events to be missed. In some cases the
missed events are releases, which can cause the cursor to jump or
freeze, among other problems. Limit the number of bytes read to
min(wMaxInputLength, ihid->bufsize) to prevent such problems.

input_mt_sync_frame() calls input_mt_report_pointer_emulation() and do
some internal steps required to keep in sync the state of the touch within
the various reports.
Given that we use input_mt_get_slot_by_key() in this driver, it is better to
use input_mt_sync_frame().

Identify Logitech gaming wheels in compatibility modes accordingly to Logitech
specifications.
Logitech specification contains a general method of identifying various
models of their gaming wheels while they are in "compatibility" mode.
This patch implements the method instead of checking against known
values of bcdDevice. Handling of the mode switch upon initialization is
also adjusted so that the driver does not have to go through the entire
initialization routine because the wheels are set to perform a USB
detach before they reappear in "native" mode.

Knowing the firmware id is extremely useful when debugging issues related to
the touchpad. It can be used to determine the hardware, firmware version,
and configuation of the touchpad. This patch queries the firmware id and
prints it as the touchpad is starting so that it will show up in the dmesg
output included in bug reports.

The Microsoft HID over I2C specification says two things regarding the
interrupt:
1) The interrupt should be level sensitive
2) The device keeps the interrupt asserted as long as it has more reports
available.
We've seen that at least some Atmel and N-Trig panels keep the line low as
long as they have something to send. The current version of the driver only
detects the first edge but then fails to read rest of the reports (as the
line is still asserted).
Make the driver follow the specification and configure the HID interrupt to
be level sensitive.
The Windows HID over I2C driver also seems to do the same.

stylus_in_proximity is used to make sure no touch event is sent while pen is in
proximity. touch_down is used to make sure a touch up event is sent when pen
comes into proximity while touch is down.
Two touch routines didn't store touch_down. One touch routine forgot to check
stylus_in_proximity before sending touch events. This patch fixes those issues.

The FF2 driver (usbhid/hid-pidff.c) sends commands to the stick during ff_init.
However, this is called inside a block where driver_input_lock is locked, so
the results of these initial commands are discarded. This behavior is the
"killer", without this nothing else works.
ff_init issues commands using "hid_hw_request". This eventually goes to
hid_input_report, which returns -EBUSY because driver_input_lock is locked. The
change is to delay the ff_init call in hid-core.c until after this lock has
been released.
Calling hid_device_io_start() releases the lock so the device can be
configured. We also need to call hid_device_io_stop() on exit for the lock to
remain locked while ending the init of the drivers.

It appears that the Cintiq Companion Hybrid does not send an ABS_MISC event to
userspace when any of its ExpressKeys are pressed. This is not strictly
necessary now that the pad exists on its own device, but should be fixed for
consistency's sake.
Traditionally both the stylus and pad shared the same device node, and
xf86-input-wacom would use ABS_MISC for disambiguation. Not sending this causes
the Hybrid to behave incorrectly with xf86-input-wacom beginning with its
8f44f3 commit.

The Microchip Pick16F1454 is exported as a HID device and is used by for
example the Yepkit YKUSH three-port switchable USB hub. However, it is not an
actual HID-device. On the Yepkit, it is used to power up/down the ports on the
hub. The HID driver should ignore this device.

Some Cintiq and Intuos tablets report In Range event. This event is sent before
valid data is reported when tool enters proximity; or before out of proximity
event is reported when tool exits.
While entering proximity, In Range means a pen is detected. This information
can be used for palm/touch rejection on both pen and touch enabled devices.
While exiting, it means the tool has reached its maximum detectable distance.

Users may use unsupported tools on Cintiq or Intuos. When invalid tools or data
are detected, they should be ignored. That is, no event from those tools should
be reported.
Consolidating that code in wacom_intuos_inout simplifies the logic and make it
easier for future code change.

Have hid-rmi handle all of the Razer Blade HID devices that are part of the
composite USB device. This will allow hid-rmi to operate the touchpad in rmi
mode while passing events from the other devices to hid-input.

The external buttons on HID touchpads are connected as pass through devices and
button events are not reported in the rmi registers. As a result on these
devices we need to allow the HID generic desktop button events to be processed
by hid-input. Unfortunately, there is no way to query the touchpad to determine
that it has pass through buttons so the RMI_DEVICE_HAS_PHYS_BUTTONS should be
set manually when adding the device to rmi_id[].

This is a static checker fix. We write some binary settings to the
sysfs file. One of the settings is the "->startup_profile". There
isn't any checking to make sure it fits into the
pyra->profile_settings[] array in the profile_activated() function.
I added a check to pyra_sysfs_write_settings() in both places because
I wasn't positive that the other callers were correct.

If a disconnect occurs while getting the actual name of the device
(which can take several HID transactions), the name of the device will
be the hid name, provided by the Unifying Receiver.
This means that in some cases, the user space will see a different
name that what it usually sees when there is no disconnect.
We should store the name of the device in the struct hidpp. That way,
if a disconnect occurs while we are accessing the name,
hidpp_connect_event() can fail, and the input node is not created.
The input node will be created only if we have a connection which
lasts long enough to retrieve all the requested information:
name, protocol, and specific configuration.

On an PC-101/103/104 keyboard (American layout) the 'Enter' key and its
neighbours look like this:

(Note that the number of keys is the same, but key '5' is moved down and
the shape of key '4' is changed. Keys '1' to '3' are exactly the same.)
The keys 1-4 report the same scan-code in HID in both layouts, even though
the keysym they produce is usually different depending on the XKB-keymap
used by user-space.
However, key '5' (US 'backslash'/'pipe') reports 0x31 for the upper layout
and 0x32 for the lower layout, as defined by the HID spec. This is highly
confusing as the linux-input API uses a single keycode for both.
So far, this was never a problem as there never has been a keyboard with
both of those keys present at the same time. It would have to look
something like this:

HID can represent such a keyboard, but the linux-input API cannot.
Furthermore, any user-space mapping would be confused by this and,
luckily, no-one ever produced such hardware.
Now, the HID input layer fixed this mess by mapping both 0x31 and 0x32 to
the same keycode (KEY_BACKSLASH==0x2b). As only one of both physical keys
is present on a hardware, this works just fine.
Lets introduce hardware-vendors into this:
------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, it seems way to expensive to produce a different device for
American and European layouts. Therefore, hardware-vendors put both keys,
(0x31 and 0x32) on the same keyboard, but only one of them is hooked up
to the physical button, the other one is 'dead'.
This means, they can use the same hardware, with a different button-layout
and automatically produce the correct HID events for American *and*
European layouts. This is unproblematic for normal keyboards, as the
'dead' key will never report any KEY-DOWN events. But RollOver keyboards
send the whole matrix on each key-event, allowing n-key roll-over mode.
This means, we get a 0x31 and 0x32 event on each key-press. One of them
will always be 0, the other reports the real state. As we map both to the
same keycode, we will get spurious key-events, even though the real
key-state never changed.
The easiest way would be to blacklist 'dead' keys and never handle those.
We could simply read the 'country' tag of USB devices and blacklist either
key according to the layout. But... hardware vendors... want the same
device for all countries and thus many of them set 'country' to 0 for all
devices. Meh..
So we have to deal with this properly. As we cannot know which of the keys
is 'dead', we either need a heuristic and track those keys, or we simply
make use of our value-tracking for HID fields. We simply ignore HID events
for absolute data if the data didn't change. As HID tracks events on the
HID level, we haven't done the keycode translation, yet. Therefore, the
'dead' key is tracked independently of the real key, therefore, any events
on it will be ignored.
This patch simply discards any HID events for absolute data if it didn't
change compared to the last report. We need to ignore relative and
buffered-byte reports for obvious reasons. But those cannot be affected by
this bug, so we're fine.
Preferably, we'd do this filtering on the HID-core level. But this might
break a lot of custom drivers, if they do not follow the HID specs.
Therefore, we do this late in hid-input just before we inject it into the
input layer (which does the exact same filtering, but on the keycode
level).
If this turns out to break some devices, we might have to limit filtering
to EV_KEY events. But lets try to do the Right Thing first, and properly
filter any absolute data that didn't change.
This patch is tagged for 'stable' as it fixes a lot of n-key RollOver
hardware. We might wanna wait with backporting for a while, before we know
it doesn't break anything else, though.

Bamboo Pads are using the generic processing but their report descriptors
differ from the ISDv* line. The pen fields are marked with the .physical
as Digitizer_Pen, which makes also sense.
Add this field to the checks and enable for free Bamboo Pads.

We introduced nice macros in wacom_wac.c to check whether a field is
a pen or a touch one.
wacom_usage_mapping() still uses it's own tests, which are not in sync with
the wacom_wac tests (.application is not checked).
That means that some legitimate fields might be filtered out from the
usage mapping, and thus will not be used properly while receiving the
events.

New Genius MousePen i608X devices have a new id 0x501a instead of the
old 0x5011 so add a new #define with "_2" appended and change required
places.
The remaining two checkpatch warnings about line length
being over 80 characters are present in the original files too and this
patch was made in the same style (no line break).
Just adding a new id and changing the required places should make the
new device work without any issues according to the bug report in the
following url.

Allowing hid-rmi to bind to non rmi devices allows us to support composite USB
devices which contain several HID devices one of which is a HID touchpad.
Since all of the devices have the same VID and PID we can add the device
to the hid_have_special_driver list and have hid-rmi handle all of the devices.
Then hid-rmi's probe can look for the rmi specific HID report IDs and decide if
it should handle the device as a rmi device or simply report that the events
needs additional processing.

Devices speaking HID++ 2.0 report a different error code (0xff). Detect
these errors too to avoid 5 second delays when the device reports an
error. Caught by... well, a bug in the QEMU emulation of this receiver.
Renamed fap to rap for HID++ 1.0 errors because it is more logical,
it has no functional difference.

When a hid driver that uses i2c-hid as transport is unloaded, the hid core
will call i2c_hid_stop() which releases all the buffers associated with the
device. This includes also the command buffer.
Now, when the i2c-hid driver itself is unloaded it tries to power down the
device by sending it PWR_SLEEP command. Since the command buffer is already
released we get following crash:

On composite HID devices there may be multiple HID devices on separate
interfaces, but hid-rmi should only bind to the touchpad. The previous version
simply checked that the interface protocol was set to mouse. Unfortuately, it
is not always the case that the touchpad has the mouse interface protocol set.
This patch takes a different approach and scans the report descriptor looking
for the Generic Desktop Pointer usage and the Vendor Specific Top Level
Collection needed by the hid-rmi driver to interface with the device.

If wtp_connect() fails, that means most of the time that the device has
been disconnected. Subsequent attempts to contact the device will fail
too, so it's simpler to bail out earlier.

Apple bluetooth wireless keyboard (sold in UK) has always reported zero
for battery strength no matter what condition the batteries are actually
in. With this patch applied (applying same quirk as other Apple
keyboards), the battery strength is now correctly reported.

By default the middle button is in a compatibility mode, and generates
standard wheel events when dragging with the middle trackpoint button.
Unfortunately this is buggy:
* The middle button comes up before starting wheel events, causing a middle
click on whatever the mouse cursor was sitting on
* The USB keyboard always generates the "native" horizontal wheel event,
regardless of mode.
Instead, enable the "native" mode the Windows driver uses, and add support
for the custom events this generates. This fixes the USB keyboard wheel
events, and the middle-click up event comes after the wheel events.

Previously wtp_raw_event would be called through
hidpp_raw_hidpp_event (for the touchpad report) and hidpp_raw_event
(for the mouse report).
This patch removes one calling surface, making a clearer distinction
between "generic HID++ processing" (matching internal reports) and
device-specific event processing.

If a touchpad does not report relative data then query 6 will not be present and the address
of query 8 will be one less. This patches calculates the location of query 8 instead of
hardcoding the offset.

If a touchpad reports the F11 data40 register then this indicates that the touchpad reports
additional ACM (Accidental Contact Mitigation) data after the F11 data in the HID attention
report. These additional bytes shift the position of the F30 button data causing the driver
to incorrectly report button state when this functionality is present. This patch accounts
for the additional data in the report.

Before ->start() is called, bufsize size is set to HID_MIN_BUFFER_SIZE,
64 bytes. While processing the IRQ, we were asking to receive up to
wMaxInputLength bytes, which can be bigger than 64 bytes.
Later, when ->start is run, a proper bufsize will be calculated.
Given wMaxInputLength is said to be unreliable in other part of the
code, set to receive only what we can even if it results in truncated
reports.

Balance a hid_device_io_start() call with hid_device_io_stop() in the
error path. This avoids processing of HID reports when the probe fails
which possibly leads to invalid memory access in hid_device_probe() as
report_enum->report_id_hash might already be freed via
hid_close_report().
hid_set_drvdata() is called before wtp_allocate, be consistent and clear
drvdata too on the error path of wtp_allocate.

hidpp_devicenametype_get_device_name() may return a negative value on
protocol errors (for example, when the device is powered off).
Explicitly check this condition to avoid a long-running loop.
(0 cannot be returned as __name_length - index > 0, but check for it
anyway as it would otherwise result in an infinite loop.)

The existing generic touch code only reports events after reading an
entire HID report, which practically means that only data about the last
contact in a report will ever be provided to userspace. This patch uses
a trick from hid-multitouch.c to discover what type of field is at the
end of each contact; when such a field is encountered all the stored
contact data will be reported.

This time we have some more new material than we used to have during
the last couple of development cycles.
The most important part of it to me is the introduction of a unified
interface for accessing device properties provided by platform
firmware. It works with Device Trees and ACPI in a uniform way and
drivers using it need not worry about where the properties come
from as long as the platform firmware (either DT or ACPI) makes
them available. It covers both devices and "bare" device node
objects without struct device representation as that turns out to
be necessary in some cases. This has been in the works for quite
a few months (and development cycles) and has been approved by
all of the relevant maintainers.
On top of that, some drivers are switched over to the new interface
(at25, leds-gpio, gpio_keys_polled) and some additional changes are
made to the core GPIO subsystem to allow device drivers to manipulate
GPIOs in the "canonical" way on platforms that provide GPIO information
in their ACPI tables, but don't assign names to GPIO lines (in which
case the driver needs to do that on the basis of what it knows about
the device in question). That also has been approved by the GPIO
core maintainers and the rfkill driver is now going to use it.
Second is support for hardware P-states in the intel_pstate driver.
It uses CPUID to detect whether or not the feature is supported by
the processor in which case it will be enabled by default. However,
it can be disabled entirely from the kernel command line if necessary.
Next is support for a platform firmware interface based on ACPI
operation regions used by the PMIC (Power Management Integrated
Circuit) chips on the Intel Baytrail-T and Baytrail-T-CR platforms.
That interface is used for manipulating power resources and for
thermal management: sensor temperature reporting, trip point setting
and so on.
Also the ACPI core is now going to support the _DEP configuration
information in a limited way. Basically, _DEP it supposed to reflect
off-the-hierarchy dependencies between devices which may be very
indirect, like when AML for one device accesses locations in an
operation region handled by another device's driver (usually, the
device depended on this way is a serial bus or GPIO controller).
The support added this time is sufficient to make the ACPI battery
driver work on Asus T100A, but it is general enough to be able to
cover some other use cases in the future.
Finally, we have a new cpufreq driver for the Loongson1B processor.
In addition to the above, there are fixes and cleanups all over the
place as usual and a traditional ACPICA update to a recent upstream
release.
As far as the fixes go, the ACPI LPSS (Low-power Subsystem) driver
for Intel platforms should be able to handle power management of
the DMA engine correctly, the cpufreq-dt driver should interact
with the thermal subsystem in a better way and the ACPI backlight
driver should handle some more corner cases, among other things.
On top of the ACPICA update there are fixes for race conditions
in the ACPICA's interrupt handling code which might lead to some
random and strange looking failures on some systems.
In the cleanups department the most visible part is the series
of commits targeted at getting rid of the CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME
configuration option. That was triggered by a discussion
regarding the generic power domains code during which we realized
that trying to support certain combinations of PM config options
was painful and not really worth it, because nobody would use them
in production anyway. For this reason, we decided to make
CONFIG_PM_SLEEP select CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME and that lead to the
conclusion that the latter became redundant and CONFIG_PM could
be used instead of it. The material here makes that replacement
in a major part of the tree, but there will be at least one more
batch of that in the second part of the merge window.
Specifics:

If a HID descriptor places HID_DG_CONTACTID before HID_DG_X and HID_DG_Y then
the ABS_X and ABS_Y will not be automatically initialized by the call to
input_mt_init_slots. To ensure that this is not a problem, we relocate that
call to occur after HID parsing has been completed and we've initalized all the
multitouch axes.

After commit b2b49ccbdd (PM: Kconfig: Set PM_RUNTIME if PM_SLEEP is
selected) PM_RUNTIME is always set if PM is set, so #ifdef blocks
depending on CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME may now be changed to depend on
CONFIG_PM.
Replace CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME with CONFIG_PM in drivers/hid/i2c-hid/i2c-hid.c.

There are screen to tablet offsets for newer Cintiq and DTU models.
These offsets serve as outbound tracking for those display tablets.
Use defines instead of hardcoded numbers for the offsets.

So here, wacom_open is called, and then wacom_resume is called by the
PM system. However, wacom_open already took the lock when wacom_resume
tries to get it. Freeze.
A little bit of history shows that this already happened in the past
- commit f6cd378372 ("Input: wacom - fix runtime PM related deadlock"),
and the solution was to call first the PM function before taking the lock.
The lock was introduced in commit commit e722409445 ("Input: wacom -
implement suspend and autosuspend") when the autosuspend feature has
been added. Given that usbhid already takes care of this very same
locking between suspend/resume, I think we can simply kill the lock
in open/close.
The lock is now used also with LEDs, so we can not remove it completely.

It is not necessarily sufficient to look only at the physical and logical
usages when determining if a field is for the pen or touch. Some fields
are not contained in a sub-collection and thus only have an application
usage. Not checking the application usage in such cases causes us to
ignore the field entirely, which may lead to incorrect behavior.

VTL panels do not switch to the multitouch mode until the input mode
feature is read by the host. This should normally be done by
usbhid, but it looks like an other bug prevents usbhid to properly
retrieve the feature state. As a workaround, we force the reading of
the feature in mt_set_input_mode for such devices.

Current driver uses a common buffer for reading reports either
synchronously in i2c_hid_get_raw_report() and asynchronously in
the interrupt handler.
There is race condition if an interrupt arrives immediately after
the report is received in i2c_hid_get_raw_report(); the common
buffer is modified by the interrupt handler with the new report
and then i2c_hid_get_raw_report() proceed using wrong data.
Fix it by using a separate buffers for synchronous reports.

Provide the resolution of several angular axes (tilt, pen rotation, puck
rotation) to userspace. Because these values are natively degree-based, we
need to convert them to into units/radian as required by the input_absinfo
struct. To ensure wraparound behaves properly for the rotation axes, the
converted value was rounded up rather than rounded nearest.
Notably, the touchring axes (ABS_WHEEL and ABS_THROTTLE) are left without a
a declared resolution because the their low resolution cannot be accurately
represented (the worst-case rounding-induced error would be ~16 degrees).
Pre-scaling the values and range by at least 10x would reduce the error in
the resolution to acceptable levels, but the xf86-input-wacom driver is not
able to use pre-scaled values for these axes at this time.

Centers the ABS_TILT_{X,Y} axes so that a value of zero is reported when
the pen is vertical. Combined with resolution information in the next
patch, this makes it possible for userspace to calculate the pen angle
without needing hardware-specific knowledge. The xf86-input-wacom driver
was updated to support signed tilt values in late-2012 (2f2acec).

Bamboo models do not support HID_DG_CONTACTMAX. Plus, Bamboo pen-only
has touch descriptor. This leads to some complications in the code.
This patch also fixes duplicated PAD interfeaces for Intuos Pen
models.

Replace stack buffers with kernel allocated buffers for sending
and receiving HID reports to prevent issues with DMA transfers
on certain hardware.
Output report buffers are allocated at initialization time to avoid
excessive calls to kmalloc and kfree.

On the USB keyboard, the VENDOR hotkeys share the same device as the
mouse. Setting EV_REP also affects mouse buttons, so leave it off.
The bluetooth keyboard still has autorepeating mouse buttons, as it
only has one device and is set by the KEYBOARD pages.

touch_input is stored in wacom_shared for pen data to report touch
switch status. It is possible, although we didn't see it happen on
Linux yet, that pen data is procesed before touch interface is
fully probed.
As a by-product of this patch, it fixes the FreeBSD issue reported

I have tested HID quirk for Saitek R.A.T.7 with my R.A.T. 9. It works fine for
me. Attached patch makes the necessary changes to use the quirk on the R.A.T.9
too, and necessary Kconfig changes too.
I have stylized the Kconfig option name to include Mad Catz in the option name,
as (at least some of) the devices are marketed under Mad Catz brand.

The problem lies in hidpp_send_message_sync() which can return 2 types of
errors depending of their sign. Adding a comment there to clarify what is

When a subdriver is rmmod-ed then re-insmod-ed, the hid device is not
destroyed as it is owned by the transport layer.
So when we re-probed the device, the hid device is assumed to be already
claimed, and can lead to page faults if hid-core tries to forward the
emitted data to the to-be-created claimed node.

When events occurs while no one is listening to the node (hid->open == 0
and usb_kill_urb() called) some events are still stacked somewhere in
the USB (kernel or device?) stack. When the node gets reopened, these
events are drained, and this results in spurious touch down/up, or mouse
button clicks.
The problem was spotted with touchscreens in fdo bug #81781 [1], but it
actually occurs with any mouse using hid-generic or touchscreen.
A way to reproduce it is to call:
$ xinput disable 9 ; sleep 5 ; xinput enable 9
With 9 being the device ID for the touchscreen/mouse. During the "sleep",
produce some touch events or click events. When "xinput enable" is called,
at least one click is generated.
This patch tries to fix this by draining the queue for 50 msec and
during this time frame, not forwarding these old events to the hid layer.

The commit which introduced TransducerSerialNumber (368c966) is missing
two crucial implementation details. Firstly, the commit does not set the
type/code/bit/max fields as expected later down the code which can cause
the driver to crash when a tablet with this usage is connected. Secondly,
the call to 'set_bit' causes MSC_PULSELED to be sent instead of the
expected MSC_SERIAL. This commit addreses both issues.

The TK820 presents both a keyboard and a touchpad on the same
physical (and logical device). Use the generic hid-input
processing for the keyboard part. The keyboard input device is created
when the receiver is plugged in, so no events are missed on connect.
When the device actaully connects, we can set it to use the raw
multitouch reporting to have a consistent user experience accross
all Logitech touchpads.

All the bits are now in place to add the support of the
Touchpad T650.
The creation/population of the input device is delayed until
the device is ready.
The T650 uses the special HID++ reporting protocol, so activate
this on connect.

Now that the receiver forwards the connect/disconnect events, we can
know when the device is available to communicate with us.
When it is ready, we can for instance retrieve its full name, which
guarantee that we always have the same name for the DJ device (the DJ
name is somewhat shorter than the HID++ name).
This mechanism is mandatory for the touchpads line, which has the
min/max information stored in the device. This information can only
be retrieved when the device is connected. So we can not populate
the input device until we are sure that the device is connected.
This patch creates a new input device for such devices. However,
this input is not bound to hid directly, so the various drivers
which wants to use it are required to process completely the
incoming reports in .raw_event().
Note that the patch in itself just adds the bits for the next
ones, and this feature is disabled by default.

The receiver can send HID++ notifications to the DJ devices when the
physical devices are connected/disconnected.
Enable this feature by default.
This command uses a HID++ command instead of a DJ one, so use a direct
call to usbhid instead of using logi_dj_recv_send_report()

The names of the DJ devices are stored in the receiver. These names
can be retrieved through a HID++ command. However, the protocol says
that you have to ask the receiver for that, not the device iteself.
Introduce a special case in the DJ handling where a device can request
its unifying name, and when such a name is given, forward it also to
the corresponding device.
On the HID++ side, the receiver talks only HID++ 1.0, so we need to
implement this part of the protocol in the module.

HID++ is a Logitech-specific protocol for communicating with HID
devices. DJ devices implement HID++, and so we can add the HID++
collection in the report descriptor and forward the incoming
reports from the receiver to the appropriate DJ device.
The same can be done in the other way, if someone calls a
.raw_request(), we can forward it to the correct dj device
by overriding the device_index in the HID++ report.

Logitech devices use a vendor protocol to communicate various
information with the device. This protocol is called HID++,
and an exerpt can be found here:

The main difficulty which is related to this protocol is that
it is a synchronous protocol using the input reports.
So when we want to get some information from the device, we need
to wait for a matching input report.
This driver introduce this capabilities to be able to support
the multitouch mode of the Logitech Wireless Touchpad T651
(the bluetooth one). The multitouch data is available directly
from the mouse input reports, and we just need to query the device
on connect about its caracteristics.
HID++ and the touchpad features has a specific reporting mode
which uses pure HID++ reports, but Logitech told us not to use
it for this specific device. During QA, they detected that
some bluetooth input reports where lost, and so the only supported
mode is the pointer mode.

Several benefits here:
- we can drop the macro is_dj_device: I never been really conviced by
this macro as we could fall into a null pointer anytime. Anyway time
showed that this never happened.
- we can simplify the hid driver logitech-djdevice, and make it aware
of any new receiver VID/PID.
- we can use the Wireless PID of the DJ device as the product id of the
hid device, this way the sysfs will differentiate between different
DJ devices.

This allows the transport layer (I have in mind hid-logitech-dj and uhid)
to set the group before it is added to the hid bus. This way, it can
bypass the hid_scan_report() call, and choose in advance which driver
will handle the newly created hid device.

Currently unknown consumer page codes are ignored, which means that they cannot
later be mapped from userspace using udev / hwdb. Map them to KEY_UNKNOWN, so
that userspace can remap them for keyboards which make up their own consumer
page codes.

- Increase the default ARCH_NR_GPIO from 256 to 512. This
was done to avoid having a custom <asm/gpio.h> header for
the x86 architecture - GPIO is custom and complicated
enough as it is already! We want to move to a radix to
store the descriptors going forward, and finally get rid
of this fixed array size altogether.
- Endgame patching of the gpio_remove() semantics initiated
by Abdoulaye Berthe. It is not accepted by the system that
the removal of a GPIO chip fails during e.g. reboot or
shutdown, and therefore the return value has now painfully
been refactored away. For special cases like GPIO expanders
on a hot-pluggable bus like USB, we may later add some
gpiochip_try_remove() call, but for the cases we have now,
return values are moot.
- Some incremental refactoring of the gpiolib core and ACPI
GPIO library for more descriptor usage.
- Refactor the chained IRQ handler set-up method to handle
also threaded, nested interrupts and set up the parent IRQ
correctly. Switch STMPE and TC3589x drivers to use this
registration method.

"This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v3.18 development cycle:
- Increase the default ARCH_NR_GPIO from 256 to 512. This was done
to avoid having a custom <asm/gpio.h> header for the x86
architecture - GPIO is custom and complicated enough as it is
already! We want to move to a radix to store the descriptors going
forward, and finally get rid of this fixed array size altogether.
- Endgame patching of the gpio_remove() semantics initiated by
Abdoulaye Berthe. It is not accepted by the system that the
removal of a GPIO chip fails during eg reboot or shutdown, and
therefore the return value has now painfully been refactored away.
For special cases like GPIO expanders on a hot-pluggable bus like

When uhid_get_report() or uhid_set_report() are called, they emit on the
char device a UHID_GET_REPORT or UHID_SET_REPORT message. Then, the
protocol says that the user space asnwers with UHID_GET_REPORT_REPLY
or UHID_SET_REPORT_REPLY.
Unfortunatelly, the current code waits for an event of type UHID_GET_REPORT
or UHID_SET_REPORT instead of the reply one.
Add 1 to UHID_GET_REPORT or UHID_SET_REPORT to actually wait for the
reply, and validate the reply.

ISDv4 and v5 are plain HID devices. We can directly implement a generic
HID parsing/handling and remove the need to manually add those PID in
the list of supported devices.
This patch implements the pen support only. The finger part will come in
a later patch.
To be properly notified of an .event() and a .report(), we need to force
hid-core to go through the HID parsing. By default, wacom.ko binds only
hidraw, so the hid parsing is not done by hid-core. When a true HID device
is there, we add the flag HID_CLAIMED_DRIVER to hid->claimed which will
force hid-core to parse the incoming reports.
(Note that this can be easily backported by directly setting the .claimed
flag to HID_CLAIMED_DRIVER even if hid-core does not support
HID_CONNECT_DRIVER)
