arch: Add pmd_pfn() where it is missing
We need to use this function in common code, so define it for architectures and/or configrations that miss it. The result of pmd_pfn() will only be used if TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE is enabled, but a function or macro called pmd_pfn() must be defined, even on machines with two level page tables. a.out: Stop building a.out/osf1 support on alpha and m68k
There has been repeated discussion on removing a.out support, the most recent was[1]. Having read through a bunch of the discussion it looks like no one has see any reason why we need to keep a.out support. The m68k maintainer has even come out in favor of removing a.out support[2]. At a practical level with only two rarely used architectures building a.out support, it gets increasingly hard to test and to care about. Which means the code will almost certainly bit-rot. Let's see if anyone cares about a.out support on the last two architectures that build it, by disabling the build of the support in Kconfig. If anyone cares, this can be easily reverted, and we can then have a discussion about what it is going to take to support a.out binaries in the long term. Removal of profile_task_ext, profile_munmap, and profile_handoff_task are the big successes for dead code removal this round. There was a bug that broke coredumps piped to systemd-coredump. I dropped the change that caused that bug and replaced it entirely with something much more restrained. Unfortunately that required some rebasing. Some successes after this set of changes: There are few enough calls to do_exit to audit in a reasonable amount of time. The lifetime of struct kthread now matches the lifetime of struct task, and the pointer to struct kthread is no longer stored in set_child_tid. The flag SIGNAL_GROUP_COREDUMP is removed. The field group_exit_task is removed. Issues where task->exit_code was examined with signal->group_exit_code should been examined were fixed. ptrace/m68k: Stop open coding ptrace_report_syscall
The generic function ptrace_report_syscall does a little more than syscall_trace on m68k. The function ptrace_report_syscall stops early if PT_TRACED is not set, it sets ptrace_message, and returns the result of fatal_signal_pending. Setting ptrace_message to a passed in value of 0 is effectively not setting ptrace_message, making that additional work a noop. Returning the result of fatal_signal_pending and letting the caller ignore the result becomes a noop in this change. When a process is ptraced, the flag PT_PTRACED is always set in current->ptrace. Testing for PT_PTRACED in ptrace_report_syscall is just an optimization to fail early if the process is not ptraced. Later on in ptrace_notify, ptrace_stop will test current->ptrace under tasklist_lock and skip performing any work if the task is not ptraced. exit: Add and use make_task_dead.
There are two big uses of do_exit. The first is it's design use to be the guts of the exit(2) system call. The second use is to terminate a task after something catastrophic has happened like a NULL pointer in kernel code. Add a function make_task_dead that is initialy exactly the same as do_exit to cover the cases where do_exit is called to handle catastrophic failure. In time this can probably be reduced to just a light wrapper around do_task_dead. For now keep it exactly the same so that there will be no behavioral differences introducing this new concept. Replace all of the uses of do_exit that use it for catastraphic task cleanup with make_task_dead to make it clear what the code is doing. Enable the memtest functionality and rearrange some code to prevent it from clobbering the initrd. The code to implement CONFIG_BLK_DEV_INITRD was conditional on !defined(CONFIG_SUN3). For simplicity, remove that test on the basis that m68k_ramdisk.size == 0 on Sun 3. signal: Replace force_fatal_sig with force_exit_sig when in doubt
Recently to prevent issues with SECCOMP_RET_KILL and similar signals being changed before they are delivered SA_IMMUTABLE was added. Unfortunately this broke debuggers[1][2] which reasonably expect to be able to trap synchronous SIGTRAP and SIGSEGV even when the target process is not configured to handle those signals. Add force_exit_sig and use it instead of force_fatal_sig where historically the code has directly called do_exit. This has the implementation benefits of going through the signal exit path (including generating core dumps) without the danger of allowing userspace to ignore or change these signals. This avoids userspace regressions as older kernels exited with do_exit which debuggers also can not intercept. In the future is should be possible to improve the quality of implementation of the kernel by changing some of these force_exit_sig calls to force_fatal_sig. That can be done where it matters on a case-by-case basis with careful analysis. Add linux/cacheflush.h
Many architectures do not include asm-generic/cacheflush.h, so turn
the includes on their head and add linux/cacheflush.h which includes
asm/cacheflush.h.
Move the flush_dcache_folio() declaration from asm-generic/cacheflush.h
to linux/cacheflush.h and change linux/highmem.h to include
linux/cacheflush.h instead of asm/cacheflush.h so that all necessary
places will see flush_dcache_folio().
More functions should have their default implementations moved in the
future, but those are for follow-on patches. This fixes csky, sparc and
sparc64 which were missed in the commit which added flush_dcache_folio().

memblock: allow to specify flags with memblock_add_node()
We want to specify flags when hotplugging memory. Let's prepare to pass flags to memblock_add_node() by adjusting all existing users. Note that when hotplugging memory the system is already up and running and we might have concurrent memblock users: for example, while we're hotplugging memory, kexec_file code might search for suitable memory regions to place kexec images. It's important to add the memory directly to memblock via a single call with the right flags, instead of adding the memory first and apply flags later: otherwise, concurrent memblock users might temporarily stumble over memblocks with wrong flags, which will be important in a follow-up patch that introduces a new flag to properly handle add_memory_driver_managed(). Memory folios

The point of all this churn is to allow filesystems and the page cache to manage memory in larger chunks than PAGE_SIZE. The original plan was to use compound pages like THP does, but I ran into problems with some functions expecting only a head page while others expect the precise page containing a particular byte. The folio type allows a function to declare that it's expecting only a head page. Almost incidentally, this allows us to remove various calls to VM_BUG_ON(PageTail(page)) and compound_head(). This converts just parts of the core MM and the page cache. For 5.17, we intend to convert various filesystems (XFS and AFS are ready; other filesystems may make it) and also convert more of the MM and page cache to folios. For 5.18, multi-page folios should be ready. The multi-page folios offer some improvement to some workloads. The 80% win is real, but appears to be an artificial benchmark (postgres startup, which isn't a serious workload). Real workloads (eg building the kernel, running postgres in a steady state, etc) seem to benefit between 0-10%. I haven't heard of any performance losses as a result of this series. Nobody has done any serious performance tuning; I imagine that tweaking the readahead algorithm could provide some more interesting wins. There are also other places where we could choose to create large folios and currently do not, such as writes that are larger than PAGE_SIZE. signal: Replace force_sigsegv(SIGSEGV) with force_fatal_sig(SIGSEGV)
Now that force_fatal_sig exists it is unnecessary and a bit confusing to use force_sigsegv in cases where the simpler force_fatal_sig is wanted. So change every instance we can to make the code clearer. m68k: set a default value for MEMORY_RESERVE
'make randconfig' can produce a .config file with
"CONFIG_MEMORY_RESERVE=" (no value) since it has no default.
When a subsequent 'make all' is done, kconfig restarts the config
and prompts for a value for MEMORY_RESERVE. This breaks
scripting/automation where there is no interactive user input.
Add a default value for MEMORY_RESERVE. (Any integer value will
work here for kconfig.)
