3309dd04cb switch generic_write_checks() to iocb and iter
... returning -E... upon error and amount of data left in iter after
(possible) truncation upon success. Note, that normal case gives
a non-zero (positive) return value, so any tests for != 0 _must_ be
updated.

6f67376318 direct_IO: use iov_iter_rw() instead of rw everywhere
The rw parameter to direct_IO is redundant with iov_iter->type, and
treated slightly differently just about everywhere it's used: some users
do rw & WRITE, and others do rw == WRITE where they should be doing a
bitwise check. Simplify this with the new iov_iter_rw() helper, which
always returns either READ or WRITE.

5bb89b4702 NFSv4.1/pnfs: Separate out metadata and data consistency for pNFS
The LAYOUTCOMMIT operation means different things to different layout types.
For blocks and objects, it is both a data and metadata consistency operation.
For files and flexfiles, it is only a metadata consistency operation.

This patch separates out the 2 cases, allowing the files/flexfiles layout
drivers to optimise away the data consistency calls to layoutcommit.

04b2fa9f8f fs: split generic and aio kiocb
Most callers in the kernel want to perform synchronous file I/O, but
still have to bloat the stack with a full struct kiocb. Split out
the parts needed in filesystem code from those in the aio code, and
only allocate those needed to pass down argument on the stack. The
aio code embedds the generic iocb in the one it allocates and can
easily get back to it by using container_of.

Also add a ->ki_complete method to struct kiocb, this is used to call
into the aio code and thus removes the dependency on aio for filesystems
impementing asynchronous operations. It will also allow other callers
to substitute their own completion callback.

We also add a new ->ki_flags field to work around the nasty layering
violation recently introduced in commit 5e33f6 ("usb: gadget: ffs: add
eventfd notification about ffs events").

874f946376 NFS: Fix a regression in the read() syscall
When invalidating the page cache for a regular file, we want to first
sync all dirty data to disk and then call invalidate_inode_pages2().
The latter relies on nfs_launder_page() and nfs_release_page() to deal
respectively with dirty pages, and unstable written pages.

When commit 9590544694 ("NFS: avoid deadlocks with loop-back mounted
NFS filesystems.") changed the behaviour of nfs_release_page(), then it
made it possible for invalidate_inode_pages2() to fail with an EBUSY.
Unfortunately, that error is then propagated back to read().

Let's therefore work around the problem for now by protecting the call
to sync the data and invalidate_inode_pages2() so that they are atomic
w.r.t. the addition of new writes.
Later on, we can revisit whether or not we still need nfs_launder_page()
and nfs_release_page().

6c441c254e NFS: Don't invalidate a submounted dentry in nfs_prime_dcache()
If we're traversing a directory which contains a submounted filesystem,
or one that has a referral, the NFS server that is processing the READDIR
request will often return information for the underlying (mounted-on)
directory. It may, or may not, also return filehandle information.

If this happens, and the lookup in nfs_prime_dcache() returns the
dentry for the submounted directory, the filehandle comparison will
fail, and we call d_invalidate(). Post-commit 8ed936b567
("vfs: Lazily remove mounts on unlinked files and directories."), this
means the entire subtree is unmounted.

The following minimal patch addresses this problem by punting on
the invalidation if there is a submount.

issue (see link).

be36e185bd NFSv4: nfs4_open_recover_helper() must set share access
The share access mode is now specified as an argument in the nfs4_opendata,
and so nfs4_open_recover_helper() needs to call nfs4_map_atomic_open_share()
in order to set it.

Commit 411a99adff (nfs: clear_request_commit while holding i_lock)

6bec003528 Merge branch 'for-3.20/bdi' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-block
Pull backing device changes from Jens Axboe:
"This contains a cleanup of how the backing device is handled, in
preparation for a rework of the life time rules. In this part, the
most important change is to split the unrelated nommu mmap flags from
it, but also removing a backing_dev_info pointer from the
address_space (and inode), and a cleanup of other various minor bits.

Christoph did all the work here, I just fixed an oops with pages that
have a swap backing. Arnd fixed a missing export, and Oleg killed the
lustre backing_dev_info from staging. Last patch was from Al,
unexporting parts that are now no longer needed outside"

6f83e5bd3e NFS client updates for Linux 3.20
Highlights incluse:

 Features:
 - Removing the forced serialisation of open()/close() calls in NFSv4.x (x>0)
makes for a significant performance improvement in metadata intensive
   workloads.
 - Full support for the pNFS "flexible files" layout type
 - Further RPC/RDMA client improvements from Chuck

 Bugfixes:
 - Stable fix: NFSv4.1 backchannel calls blocking operations with !TASK_RUNNING
 - Stable fix: pnfs_generic_pg_init_read/write can be called with lseg == NULL
 - Stable fix: Fix an Oopsable condition when nsm_mon_unmon is called as part
   of the namespace cleanup,
 - Stable fix: Ensure we reference the inode for return-on-close in delegreturn

 - Use SO_REUSEPORT to ensure that NFSv3 TCP connections can rebind to the
same source address/port combination during a disconnect/reconnect event.
This is a requirement imposed by most NFSv3 server duplicate reply cache
   implementations.

 Optimisations:
 - Ask for no NFSv4.1 delegations on OPEN if using O_DIRECT

 Other:
 - Add Anna Schumaker as co-maintainer for the NFS client

Merge misc updates from Andrew Morton:
"Bite-sized chunks this time, to avoid the MTA ratelimiting woes.

   - fs/notify updates

   - ocfs2

   - some of MM"

That laconic "some MM" is mainly the removal of remap_file_pages(),
which is a big simplification of the VM, and which gets rid of a *lot*
of random cruft and special cases because we no longer support the
non-linear mappings that it used.

From a user interface perspective, nothing has changed, because the
remap_file_pages() syscall still exists, it's just done by emulating the
old behavior by creating a lot of individual small mappings instead of
one non-linear one.

The emulation is slower than the old "native" non-linear mappings, but
nobody really uses or cares about remap_file_pages(), and simplifying
the VM is a big advantage.

If we're using NFSv4.1, then we have the ability to let the server know
whether or not we believe that returning a delegation as part of our OPEN
request would be useful.
The feature needs to be used with care, since the client sending the request
doesn't necessarily know how other clients are using that file, and how
they may be affected by the delegation.
For this reason, our initial use of the feature will be to let the server
know when the client believes that handing out a delegation would not be
useful.
The first application for this function is when opening the file using
O_DIRECT.

requests to MDS. As a result, nfs_direct_good_bytes() ends
up counting bytes multiple times, causing application to
get wrong return results in read/write syscalls.

Fix it by tracking start of a dreq and checking the range of
pgio header.

c829013dca nfs41: add NFS_LAYOUT_RETRY_LAYOUTGET to layout header flags
Use it to indicate that LD wants to retry layoutget. LD can set
it whenever it wants the common pnfs code to return and retry
pnfs path through a new layout.

The bit gets cleared when client does a new layoutget, when client
closes the file (ROC case), or when kernel needs to evict the inode
(non-ROC case).

193e3aa2cc nfs41: introduce NFS_LAYOUT_RETURN_BEFORE_CLOSE
When it is set, generic pnfs would try to send layoutreturn right
before last close/delegation_return regard less NFS_LAYOUT_ROC is
set or not. LD can then make sure layoutreturn is always sent
rather than being omitted.

The difference against NFS_LAYOUT_RETURN is that
NFS_LAYOUT_RETURN_BEFORE_CLOSE does not block usage of the layout so
LD can set it and expect generic layer to try pnfs path at the
same time.

9bf87482dd nfs41: serialize first layoutget of a file
Per RFC 5661 Errata 3208:
| A client MAY always forget its layout state and associated
| layout stateid at any time (See also section 12.5.5.1).
| In such case, the client MUST use a non-layout stateid for the next
| LAYOUTGET operation. This will signal the server that the client has
| no more layouts on the file and its respective layout state can be
| released before issuing a new layout in response to LAYOUTGET.

In order to make such a signal unique to server, client needs to serialize
all layoutgets using non-layout stateid. We implement this by serializing
layoutgets when client has no layout segments at hand.

3a7ed3fff3 nfs: prevent truncate on active swapfile
Most filesystems prevent truncation of an active swapfile by way of
inode_newsize_ok, called from inode_change_ok. NFS doesn't call either
from nfs_setattr, presumably because most of these checks are expected
to be done server-side. However, the IS_SWAPFILE check can only be done
client-side, and truncating a swapfile can't possibly be good.

nfs41_callback_svc does most of its work while in TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE,
which is just wrong. Fix that by finishing the wait immediately if we've
found that the list has something on it.

Also, we don't expect this kthread to accept signals, so we should be
using a TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE sleep instead. That however, opens us up
hung task warnings from the watchdog, so have the schedule_timeout
wake up every 60s if there's no callback activity.

2ef47eb1ae NFS: Fix use of nfs_attr_use_mounted_on_fileid()
This function call was being optimized out during nfs_fhget(), leading
to situations where we have a valid fileid but still want to use the
mounted_on_fileid. For example, imagine we have our server configured
like this:

server % df
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/vda1 9.1G 6.5G 1.9G 78% /
/dev/vdb1 487M 2.3M 456M 1% /exports
/dev/vdc1 487M 2.3M 456M 1% /exports/vol1
/dev/vdd1 487M 2.3M 456M 1% /exports/vol2

If our client mounts /exports and tries to do a "chown -R" across the
entire mountpoint, we will get a nasty message warning us about a circular
directory structure. Running chown with strace tells me that each directory
has the same device and inode number:

newfstatat(AT_FDCWD, "/nfs/", {st_dev=makedev(0, 38), st_ino=2, ...}) = 0
newfstatat(4, "vol1", {st_dev=makedev(0, 38), st_ino=2, ...}) = 0
newfstatat(4, "vol2", {st_dev=makedev(0, 38), st_ino=2, ...}) = 0

With this patch the mounted_on_fileid values are used for st_ino, so the
directory loop warning isn't reported.

ee8a1a8b16 nfs: fix dio deadlock when O_DIRECT flag is flipped
We only support swap file calling nfs_direct_IO. However, application
might be able to get to nfs_direct_IO if it toggles O_DIRECT flag
during IO and it can deadlock because we grab inode->i_mutex in
nfs_file_direct_write(). So return 0 for such case. Then the generic
layer will fall back to buffer IO.
