ae7e727681 docs/zh_CN: correct the disclaimer file
The original disclaimer remind people to get help from the specific
Chinese doc maintainers. But there are lots docs has no 'specific
maintainers' and some of maintainer doesn't updated the docs for years.
So replace the Chinese word maintainer with translator. That's more
precise for these people's role of their docs.

4318f9bb73 docs: remove spaces from shell variable assignment
The instructions for generating patches are given as shell commands
with variables as placeholders. They use the syntax "SRCTREE= linux",
which is wrong for the Bourne shell family (it runs the command
"linux" with the variable "SRCTREE" set to the empty string).

Remove the spaces to avoid confusion. This breaks the pretty alignment
but helps new contributors who try to run the commands as written.

2fec7b3309 Documentation/CodingStyle: Use directory-local variables for emacs settings
In emacs 23.1 support for directory-local variables was added (see also
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu-emacs/2009-07/msg00000.html).
Simplify the settings in coding-style.rst by using that feature.
Additionally, do not inherit any settings from emacs' linux coding style
to minimize dependencies on the version of emacs that is being used.

I have verified with several large and nontrivial kernel source files
that the new settings format code according to what checkpatch expects.

Pull locking updates from Ingo Molnar:

 - Lots of tidying up changes all across the map for Linux's formal
memory/locking-model tooling, by Alan Stern, Akira Yokosawa, Andrea
Parri, Paul E. McKenney and SeongJae Park.

Notable changes beyond an overall update in the tooling itself is the
tidying up of spin_is_locked() semantics, which spills over into the
   kernel proper as well.

 - qspinlock improvements: the locking algorithm now guarantees forward
progress whereas the previous implementation in mainline could starve
threads indefinitely in cmpxchg() loops. Also other related cleanups
to the qspinlock code (Will Deacon)

 - misc smaller improvements, cleanups and fixes all across the locking

3259081991 MAINTAINERS & files: Canonize the e-mails I use at files
From now on, I'll start using my @kernel.org as my development e-mail.

As such, let's remove the entries that point to the old
mchehab@s-opensource.com at MAINTAINERS file.

For the files written with a copyright with mchehab@s-opensource,
let's keep Samsung on their names, using mchehab+samsung@kernel.org,
in order to keep pointing to my employer, with sponsors the work.

For the files written before I join Samsung (on July, 4 2013),
let's just use mchehab@kernel.org.

For bug reports, we can simply point to just kernel.org, as
this will reach my mchehab+samsung inbox anyway.

Linus Torvalds
ab486bc9a5 Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pmladek/printk
Pull printk updates from Petr Mladek:

 - Add a console_msg_format command line option:

The value "default" keeps the old "[time stamp] text\n" format. The
value "syslog" allows to see the syslog-like "<log
     level>[timestamp] text" format.

This feature was requested by people doing regression tests, for
example, 0day robot. They want to have both filtered and full logs
     at hands.

 - Reduce the risk of softlockup:

Pass the console owner in a busy loop.

This is a new approach to the old problem. It was first proposed by
Steven Rostedt on Kernel Summit 2017. It marks a context in which
the console_lock owner calls console drivers and could not sleep.
On the other side, printk() callers could detect this state and use
a busy wait instead of a simple console_trylock(). Finally, the
console_lock owner checks if there is a busy waiter at the end of
the special context and eventually passes the console_lock to the
     waiter.

The hand-off works surprisingly well and helps in many situations.
Well, there is still a possibility of the softlockup, for example,
when the flood of messages stops and the last owner still has too
     much to flush.

There is increasing number of people having problems with
printk-related softlockups. We might eventually need to get better
solution. Anyway, this looks like a good start and promising
     direction.

 - Do not allow to schedule in console_unlock() called from printk():

This reverts an older controversial commit. The reschedule helped
to avoid softlockups. But it also slowed down the console output.
This patch is obsoleted by the new console waiter logic described
above. In fact, the reschedule made the hand-off less effective.

 - Deprecate "%pf" and "%pF" format specifier:

It was needed on ia64, ppc64 and parisc64 to dereference function
descriptors and show the real function address. It is done
transparently by "%ps" and "pS" format specifier now.

Sergey Senozhatsky found that all the function descriptors were in
a special elf section and could be easily detected.

 - Remove printk_symbol() API:

It has been obsoleted by "%pS" format specifier, and this change
helped to remove few continuous lines and a less intuitive old API.

 - Remove redundant memsets:

Sergey removed unnecessary memset when processing printk.devkmsg
     command line option.

b630a23a73 This is the bulk of pin control changes for the v4.15
kernel cycle:

 Core:

 - The pin control Kconfig entry PINCTRL is now turned into
a menuconfig option. This obviously has the implication of
making the subsystem menu visible in menuconfig. This is
   happening because of two things:

   - Intel have started to deploy and depend on pin controllers
in a way that is affecting users directly. This happens
on the highly integrated laptop chipsets named after
     geographical places: baytrail, broxton, cannonlake,
     cedarfork, cherryview, denverton, geminilake, lewisburg,
merrifield, sunrisepoint... It started a while back and
now it is ever more evident that this is crucial
infrastructure for x86 laptops and not an embedded
obscurity anymore. Users need to be aware.

   - Pin control expanders on I2C and SPI that are
arch-agnostic. Currently Semtech SX150X and Microchip
MCP28x08 but more are expected. Users will have to be
able to configure these in directly for their set-up.

 - Just go and select GPIOLIB now that we made sure that
GPIOLIB is a very vanilla subsystem. Do not depend on
it, if we need it, select it.

 - Exposing the pin control subsystem in menuconfig uncovered
a bunch of obscure bugs that are now hopefully fixed,
all more or less pertaining to Blackfin.

 - Unified namespace for cross-calls between pin control and
   GPIO.

 - New support for clock skew/delay generic DT bindings
and generic pin config options for this.

 - Minor documentation improvements.

 Various:

 - The Renesas SH-PFC pin controller has evolved a lot. It seems
Renesas are churning out new SoCs by the minute.

 - A bunch of non-critical fixes for the Rockchip driver.

 - Improve the use of library functions instead of open coding.

 - Support the MCP28018 variant in the MCP28x08 driver.

 - Static constifying.

59ecbbe7b3 locking/barriers: Kill lockless_dereference()
lockless_dereference() is a nice idea, but it gained little traction in
kernel code since its introduction three years ago. This is partly
because it's a pain to type, but also because using READ_ONCE() instead
has worked correctly on all architectures apart from Alpha, which is a
fully supported but somewhat niche architecture these days.

Now that READ_ONCE() has been upgraded to contain an implicit
smp_read_barrier_depends() and the few callers of lockless_dereference()
have been converted, we can remove lockless_dereference() altogether.

a9a1d2a782 pinctrl/gpio: Unify namespace for cross-calls
The pinctrl_request_gpio() and pinctrl_free_gpio() break the nice

Just rename them and all references so we have one namespace
with all cross-calls under pinctrl_gpio_*().
