69e545edbe selftests/mm: ksft_exit functions do not return
After commit f7d5bcd35d42 ("selftests: kselftest: Mark functions that
unconditionally call exit() as __noreturn"), ksft_exit_...() functions
are marked as __noreturn, which means the return type should not be
'int' but 'void' because they are not returning anything (and never were
since exit() has always been called).

To facilitate updating the return type of these functions, remove
'return' before the calls to ksft_exit_...(), as __noreturn prevents the
compiler from warning that a caller of the ksft_exit functions does not
return a value because the program will terminate upon calling these
functions.

ed74abcd1d selftests: mm: protection_keys: save/restore nr_hugepages value from launch script
The save/restore of nr_hugepages was added to the test itself by using the
atexit() functionality.  But it is broken as parent exits after creating
child.  Hence calling the atexit() function early.  That's not it.  The
child exits after creating its child and so on.

The parent cannot wait to get the termination status for its children as
it'll keep on holding the resources until the new pkey allocation fails. 
It is impossible to wait for exits of all the grand and great grand
children.  Hence the restoring of nr_hugepages value from parent is wrong.

Let's save/restore the nr_hugepages settings in the launch script
instead of doing it in the test.

8092162335 selftests/harness: remove use of LINE_MAX
Android was seeing a compliation error because its C library does not
define LINE_MAX.  This replaces the use of LINE_MAX / snprintf with
asprintf, which will change the behavior to not truncate the test name if
it is over 2048 chars long.

8c864371b2 selftests/mm: fix ARM related issue with fork after pthread_create
Following issue was observed while running the uffd-unit-tests selftest
on ARM devices. On x86_64 no issues were detected:

pthread_create followed by fork caused deadlock in certain cases wherein
fork required some work to be completed by the created thread.  Used
synchronization to ensure that created thread's start function has started
before invoking fork.

105840ebd7 selftests/mm: sigbus-wp test requires UFFD_FEATURE_WP_HUGETLBFS_SHMEM
The sigbus-wp test requires the UFFD_FEATURE_WP_HUGETLBFS_SHMEM flag for
shmem and hugetlb targets.  Otherwise it is not backwards compatible with
kernels <5.19 and fails with EINVAL.

c52eb6db7b selftests: mm: restore settings from only parent process
The atexit() is called from parent process as well as forked processes. 
Hence the child restores the settings at exit while the parent is still
executing.  Fix this by checking pid of atexit() calling process and only
restore THP number from parent process.

Add missing flags argument to open(2) call with O_CREAT.

Some tests fail to compile if _FORTIFY_SOURCE is defined (to any valid
value) (together with -O), resulting in similar error messages such as:

   format.  Amongst other things, this opens up the use of third-party
   tools to parse and process out selftesting results.
 
 - Ryan Roberts has added fork()-time PTE batching of THP ptes in the
   series "mm/memory: optimize fork() with PTE-mapped THP".  Mainly
   targeted at arm64, this significantly speeds up fork() when the process
   has a large number of pte-mapped folios.
 
 - David Hildenbrand also gets in on the THP pte batching game in his
   series "mm/memory: optimize unmap/zap with PTE-mapped THP".  It
   implements batching during munmap() and other pte teardown situations.
   The microbenchmark improvements are nice.
 
 - And in the series "Transparent Contiguous PTEs for User Mappings" Ryan
   Roberts further utilizes arm's pte's contiguous bit ("contpte
   mappings").  Kernel build times on arm64 improved nicely.  Ryan's series
   "Address some contpte nits" provides some followup work.
 
 - In the series "mm/hugetlb: Restore the reservation" Breno Leitao has
   fixed an obscure hugetlb race which was causing unnecessary page faults.
   He has also added a reproducer under the selftest code.
 
 - In the series "selftests/mm: Output cleanups for the compaction test",
   Mark Brown did what the title claims.
 
 - Kinsey Ho has added the series "mm/mglru: code cleanup and refactoring".
 
 - Even more zswap material from Nhat Pham.  The series "fix and extend
   zswap kselftests" does as claimed.
 
 - In the series "Introduce cpu_dcache_is_aliasing() to fix DAX

 - Uladzislau Rezki has contributed some vmalloc scalability improvements
   in his series "Mitigate a vmap lock contention".  It realizes a 12x

   crash out from kexec and clean up related config items".
 
 - Some zsmalloc maintenance work from Chengming Zhou in the series

 - Zi Yan has taught the MM to perform compaction on folios larger than
   order=0.  This a step along the path to implementaton of the merging of

 - Christoph Hellwig has done quite a lot of cleanup work in the
   pagecache writeback code in his series "convert write_cache_pages() to
   an iterator".
 
 - Some modest hugetlb cleanups and speedups in Vishal Moola's series
   "Handle hugetlb faults under the VMA lock".
 
 - Zi Yan has changed the page splitting code so we can split huge pages
   into sizes other than order-0 to better utilize large folios.  The
   series is named "Split a folio to any lower order folios".
 
 - David Hildenbrand has contributed the series "mm: remove

 - Matthew Wilcox has sought to improve the performance of bulk memory

 - In the series "mm/mempolicy: weighted interleave mempolicy and sysfs
   extension" Rakie Kim has developed a new mempolicy interleaving
   policy wherein we allocate memory across nodes in a weighted fashion
   rather than uniformly. This is beneficial in heterogeneous memory
   environments appearing with CXL.

 - Christophe Leroy has contributed some cleanup and consolidation work
   against the ARM pagetable dumping code in the series "mm: ptdump:
   Refactor CONFIG_DEBUG_WX and check_wx_pages debugfs attribute".

 - Luis Chamberlain has added some additional xarray selftesting in the
   series "test_xarray: advanced API multi-index tests".

 - Muhammad Usama Anjum has reworked the selftest code to make its
   human-readable output conform to the TAP ("Test Anything Protocol")
   format. Amongst other things, this opens up the use of third-party
   tools to parse and process out selftesting results.

 - Ryan Roberts has added fork()-time PTE batching of THP ptes in the
   series "mm/memory: optimize fork() with PTE-mapped THP". Mainly
   targeted at arm64, this significantly speeds up fork() when the
   process has a large number of pte-mapped folios.

 - David Hildenbrand also gets in on the THP pte batching game in his
   series "mm/memory: optimize unmap/zap with PTE-mapped THP". It
   implements batching during munmap() and other pte teardown
   situations. The microbenchmark improvements are nice.

 - And in the series "Transparent Contiguous PTEs for User Mappings"
   Ryan Roberts further utilizes arm's pte's contiguous bit ("contpte
   mappings"). Kernel build times on arm64 improved nicely. Ryan's
   series "Address some contpte nits" provides some followup work.

 - In the series "mm/hugetlb: Restore the reservation" Breno Leitao has
   fixed an obscure hugetlb race which was causing unnecessary page
   faults. He has also added a reproducer under the selftest code.

 - In the series "selftests/mm: Output cleanups for the compaction
   test", Mark Brown did what the title claims.

 - Kinsey Ho has added the series "mm/mglru: code cleanup and
   refactoring".

 - Even more zswap material from Nhat Pham. The series "fix and extend
   zswap kselftests" does as claimed.

 - In the series "Introduce cpu_dcache_is_aliasing() to fix DAX
   regression" Mathieu Desnoyers has cleaned up and fixed rather a mess
   in our handling of DAX on archiecctures which have virtually aliasing
   data caches. The arm architecture is the main beneficiary.

 - Lokesh Gidra's series "per-vma locks in userfaultfd" provides
   dramatic improvements in worst-case mmap_lock hold times during
   certain userfaultfd operations.

 - Some page_owner enhancements and maintenance work from Oscar Salvador
   in his series

	"page_owner: print stacks and their outstanding allocations"
	"page_owner: Fixup and cleanup"

 - Uladzislau Rezki has contributed some vmalloc scalability
   improvements in his series "Mitigate a vmap lock contention". It
   realizes a 12x improvement for a certain microbenchmark.

 - Some kexec/crash cleanup work from Baoquan He in the series "Split
   crash out from kexec and clean up related config items".

 - Some zsmalloc maintenance work from Chengming Zhou in the series

	"mm/zsmalloc: fix and optimize objects/page migration"
	"mm/zsmalloc: some cleanup for get/set_zspage_mapping()"

 - Zi Yan has taught the MM to perform compaction on folios larger than
   order=0. This a step along the path to implementaton of the merging
   of large anonymous folios. The series is named "Enable >0 order folio
   memory compaction".

 - Christoph Hellwig has done quite a lot of cleanup work in the
   pagecache writeback code in his series "convert write_cache_pages()
   to an iterator".

 - Some modest hugetlb cleanups and speedups in Vishal Moola's series
   "Handle hugetlb faults under the VMA lock".

 - Zi Yan has changed the page splitting code so we can split huge pages
   into sizes other than order-0 to better utilize large folios. The
   series is named "Split a folio to any lower order folios".

 - David Hildenbrand has contributed the series "mm: remove
   total_mapcount()", a cleanup.

 - Matthew Wilcox has sought to improve the performance of bulk memory
   freeing in his series "Rearrange batched folio freeing".

 - Gang Li's series "hugetlb: parallelize hugetlb page init on boot"
   provides large improvements in bootup times on large machines which
   are configured to use large numbers of hugetlb pages.

 - Matthew Wilcox's series "PageFlags cleanups" does that.

 - Qi Zheng's series "minor fixes and supplement for ptdesc" does that
   also. S390 is affected.

 - Cleanups to our pagemap utility functions from Peter Xu in his series
   "mm/treewide: Replace pXd_large() with pXd_leaf()".

 - Nico Pache has fixed a few things with our hugepage selftests in his
   series "selftests/mm: Improve Hugepage Test Handling in MM
   Selftests".

Patch series "selftests/mm: Improve Hugepage Test Handling in MM
Selftests", v2.

This series addresses issues related to hugepage requirements in the MM
selftests, ensuring tests are skipped rather than failing when the
necessary hugepage count is not met.

This adjustment allows for a more graceful handling for systems with
insufficient hugepages, preventing unnecessary test failures and improving
the overall robustness of the test suite.


This patch (of 3):

On systems that have large core counts and large page sizes, but limited
memory, the userfaultfd test hugepage requirement is too large.

Exiting early due to missing one test's requirements is a rather
aggressive strategy, and prevents a lot of other tests from running. 
Remove the early exit to prevent this.

e3350ba4a5 selftests: avoid using SKIP(exit()) in harness fixure setup
selftest harness uses various exit codes to signal test
results. Avoid calling exit() directly, otherwise tests
may get broken by harness refactoring (like the commit
under Fixes). SKIP() will instruct the harness that the
test shouldn't run, it used to not be the case, but that
has been fixed. So just return, no need to exit.

Note that for hmm-tests this actually changes the result
from pass to skip. Which seems fair, the test is skipped,
after all.

f2943f3f08 selftests/mm: hugetlb_reparenting_test: do not unmount
Patch series "selftests/mm: Improve run_vmtests.sh", v3.

In this series, I'm trying to add 3 missing tests to vm_runtests.sh which
is used to run all the tests in mm suite.  These tests weren't running by
CIs.  While enabling them and through review feedback, I've fixed some
problems in tests as well.  I've found more flakiness in more tests which
I'll be fixing with future patches.

hugetlb-read-hwpoison test is being added where it can only run with newly
added "-d" (destructive) flag only.  Not sure why it is failing again.  So
once it become stable, we can think of moving it to default set of tests
if it doesn't have any side-effect to them.


This patch (of 5):

Do not unmount the cgroup if it wasn't mounted by the test.  The earlier
patch had fixed this for charge_reserved_hugetlb, but not for this test. 
I'm adding fixes tag to that earlier patch.

f3b7568c49 selftests/mm: log a consistent test name for check_compaction
Every test result report in the compaction test prints a distinct log
messae, and some of the reports print a name that varies at runtime.  This
causes problems for automation since a lot of automation software uses the
printed string as the name of the test, if the name varies from run to run
and from pass to fail then the automation software can't identify that a
test changed result or that the same tests are being run.

Refactor the logging to use a consistent name when printing the result of
the test, printing the existing messages as diagnostic information instead
so they are still available for people trying to interpret the results.

9c1490d911 selftests/mm: log skipped compaction test as a skip
Patch series "selftests/mm: Output cleanups for the compaction test".

A couple of small updates for the check_compaction selftest which make
it play more nicely with test automation systems.


This patch (of 2):

When the compaction test is run it checks to make sure that prerequistives
the test requires are available and skips the tests if not.  When this
happens we log the test as a pass rather than a skip, log as a skip so
that the distinction is clear and automation can see unexpected skips.

8c407e05a9 selftests/mm: new test that steals pages
This test stresses the race between of madvise(DONTNEED), a page fault
and a parallel huge page mmap, which should fail due to lack of
available page available for mapping.

This test case must run on a system with one and only one huge page
available.

	# echo 1 > /sys/kernel/mm/hugepages/hugepages-2048kB/nr_hugepages

During setup, the test allocates the only available page, and starts
three threads:

  - thread 1:
      * madvise(MADV_DONTNEED) on the allocated huge page
  - thread 2:
      * Write to the allocated huge page
  - thread 3:
      * Tries to allocated (steal) an extra huge page (which is not
        available)

thread 3 should never succeed in the allocation, since the only huge
page was never unmapped, and should be reserved.

Touching the old page after thread3 allocation will raise a SIGBUS.

b433ffa8db selftests: mm: perform some system cleanup before using hugepages
When running with CATEGORY= (thp | hugetlb) we see a large numbers of
tests failing.  These failures are due to not being able to allocate a
hugepage and normally occur on memory contrainted systems or when using
large page sizes.

drop_cache and compact_memory before the tests for a higher chance at a
successful hugepage allocation.

Replace some goto statements with return statements so that unmap() is not
called on an undefined address.  This change is made so that unmap() can
only be reached after mmap() is called (and the address mentioned is
defined).  Returning MAP_FAILED seems acceptable since client code checks
for this value.

d021b442cf selftests/mm: ksm_tests should only MADV_HUGEPAGE valid memory
ksm_tests was previously mmapping a region of memory, aligning the
returned pointer to a PMD boundary, then setting MADV_HUGEPAGE, but was
setting it past the end of the mmapped area due to not taking the pointer
alignment into consideration.  Fix this behaviour.

Up until commit efa7df3e3bb5 ("mm: align larger anonymous mappings on THP
boundaries"), this buggy behavior was (usually) masked because the
alignment difference was always less than PMD-size.  But since the
mentioned commit, `ksm_tests -H -s 100` started failing.

52e63d67b5 selftests/mm: Update va_high_addr_switch.sh to check CPU for la57 flag
In order for the page table level 5 to be in use, the CPU must have the
setting enabled in addition to the CONFIG option. Check for the flag to be
set to avoid false test failures on systems that do not have this cpu flag
set.

The test does a series of mmap calls including three using the
MAP_FIXED flag and specifying an address that is 1<<47 or 1<<48.  These
addresses are only available if you are using level 5 page tables,
which requires both the CPU to have the capabiltiy (la57 flag) and the
kernel to be configured.  Currently the test only checks for the kernel
configuration option, so this test can still report a false positive. 
Here are the three failing lines:

I thought (for about a second) refactoring the test so that these three
mmap calls will only be run on systems with the level 5 page tables
available, but the whole point of the test is to check the level 5
feature...

91b80cc5b3 selftests: mm: fix map_hugetlb failure on 64K page size systems
On systems with 64k page size and 512M huge page sizes, the allocation and
test succeeds but errors out at the munmap.  As the comment states, munmap
will failure if its not HUGEPAGE aligned.  This is due to the length of
the mapping being 1/2 the size of the hugepage causing the munmap to not
be hugepage aligned.  Fix this by making the mapping length the full
hugepage if the hugepage is larger than the length of the mapping.

The kernel sefltest mm/hugepage-vmemmap fails on architectures which has
different page size other than 4K.  In hugepage-vmemmap page size used is
4k so the pfn calculation will go wrong on systems which has different
page size .The length of MAP_HUGETLB memory must be hugepage aligned but
in hugepage-vmemmap map length is 2M so this will not get aligned if the
system has differnet hugepage size.

Added  psize() to get the page size and default_huge_page_size() to
get the default hugepage size at run time, hugepage-vmemmap test pass
on powerpc with 64K page size and x86 with 4K page size.

Result on powerpc without patch (page size 64K)
