6e01b7601d KVM: x86: Implement kvm_arch_vcpu_pre_fault_memory()
Wire KVM_PRE_FAULT_MEMORY ioctl to kvm_mmu_do_page_fault() to populate guest
memory.  It can be called right after KVM_CREATE_VCPU creates a vCPU,
since at that point kvm_mmu_create() and kvm_init_mmu() are called and
the vCPU is ready to invoke the KVM page fault handler.

The helper function kvm_tdp_map_page() takes care of the logic to
process RET_PF_* return values and convert them to success or errno.

Pull base x86 KVM support for running SEV-SNP guests from Michael Roth:

* add some basic infrastructure and introduces a new KVM_X86_SNP_VM
  vm_type to handle differences versus the existing KVM_X86_SEV_VM and
  KVM_X86_SEV_ES_VM types.

* implement the KVM API to handle the creation of a cryptographic
  launch context, encrypt/measure the initial image into guest memory,
  and finalize it before launching it.

* implement handling for various guest-generated events such as page
  state changes, onlining of additional vCPUs, etc.

* implement the gmem/mmu hooks needed to prepare gmem-allocated pages
  before mapping them into guest private memory ranges as well as
  cleaning them up prior to returning them to the host for use as
  normal memory. Because those cleanup hooks supplant certain
  activities like issuing WBINVDs during KVM MMU invalidations, avoid
  duplicating that work to avoid unecessary overhead.

This merge leaves out support support for attestation guest requests
and for loading the signing keys to be used for attestation requests.

76d5363c20 KVM: x86: Force KVM_WERROR if the global WERROR is enabled
Force KVM_WERROR if the global WERROR is enabled to avoid pestering the
user about a Kconfig that will ultimately be ignored.  Force KVM_WERROR
instead of making it mutually exclusive with WERROR to avoid generating a
.config builds KVM with -Werror, but has KVM_WERROR=n.

6af6142e3a KVM: x86: Disable KVM_INTEL_PROVE_VE by default
Disable KVM's "prove #VE" support by default, as it provides no functional
value, and even its sanity checking benefits are relatively limited.  I.e.
it should be fully opt-in even on debug kernels, especially since EPT
Violation #VE suppression appears to be buggy on some CPUs.

Opportunistically add a line in the help text to make it abundantly clear
that KVM_INTEL_PROVE_VE should never be enabled in a production
environment.

8131cf5b4f KVM: VMX: Introduce test mode related to EPT violation VE
To support TDX, KVM is enhanced to operate with #VE.  For TDX, KVM uses the
suppress #VE bit in EPT entries selectively, in order to be able to trap
non-present conditions.  However, #VE isn't used for VMX and it's a bug
if it happens.  To be defensive and test that VMX case isn't broken
introduce an option ept_violation_ve_test and when it's set, BUG the vm.

54f5f47b60 x86/kvm/Kconfig: Have KVM_AMD_SEV select ARCH_HAS_CC_PLATFORM
The functionality to load SEV-SNP guests by the host will soon rely on
cc_platform* helpers because the cpu_feature* API with the early
patching is insufficient when SNP support needs to be disabled late.

Therefore, pull that functionality in.

422692098c KVM: x86: Update KVM_SW_PROTECTED_VM docs to make it clear they're a WIP
Rewrite the help message for KVM_SW_PROTECTED_VM to make it clear that
software-protected VMs are a development and testing vehicle for
guest_memfd(), and that attempting to use KVM_SW_PROTECTED_VM for anything
remotely resembling a "real" VM will fail.  E.g. any memory accesses from
KVM will incorrectly access shared memory, nested TDP is wildly broken,
and so on and so forth.

Update KVM's API documentation with similar warnings to discourage anyone
from attempting to run anything but selftests with KVM_X86_SW_PROTECTED_VM.

8886640dad kvm: replace __KVM_HAVE_READONLY_MEM with Kconfig symbol
KVM uses __KVM_HAVE_* symbols in the architecture-dependent uapi/asm/kvm.h to mask
unused definitions in include/uapi/linux/kvm.h.  __KVM_HAVE_READONLY_MEM however
was nothing but a misguided attempt to define KVM_CAP_READONLY_MEM only on
architectures where KVM_CHECK_EXTENSION(KVM_CAP_READONLY_MEM) could possibly
return nonzero.  This however does not make sense, and it prevented userspace
from supporting this architecture-independent feature without recompilation.

Therefore, these days __KVM_HAVE_READONLY_MEM does not mask anything and
is only used in virt/kvm/kvm_main.c.  Userspace does not need to test it
and there should be no need for it to exist.  Remove it and replace it
with a Kconfig symbol within Linux source code.

caadf876bb KVM: introduce CONFIG_KVM_COMMON
CONFIG_HAVE_KVM is currently used by some architectures to either
enabled the KVM config proper, or to enable host-side code that is
not part of the KVM module.  However, CONFIG_KVM's "select" statement
in virt/kvm/Kconfig corresponds to a third meaning, namely to
enable common Kconfigs required by all architectures that support
KVM.

These three meanings can be replaced respectively by an
architecture-specific Kconfig, by IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_KVM), or by
a new Kconfig symbol that is in turn selected by the
architecture-specific "config KVM".

Start by introducing such a new Kconfig symbol, CONFIG_KVM_COMMON.
Unlike CONFIG_HAVE_KVM, it is selected by CONFIG_KVM, not by
architecture code, and it brings in all dependencies of common
KVM code.  In particular, INTERVAL_TREE was missing in loongarch
and riscv, so that is another thing that is fixed.

b4f69df0f6 KVM: x86: Make Hyper-V emulation optional
Hyper-V emulation in KVM is a fairly big chunk and in some cases it may be
desirable to not compile it in to reduce module sizes as well as the attack
surface. Introduce CONFIG_KVM_HYPERV option to make it possible.

Note, there's room for further nVMX/nSVM code optimizations when
!CONFIG_KVM_HYPERV, this will be done in follow-up patches.

Reorganize Makefile a bit so all CONFIG_HYPERV and CONFIG_KVM_HYPERV files
are grouped together.

75bedc1ee9 KVM: x86: Turn off KVM_WERROR by default for all configs
Don't enable KVM_WERROR by default for x86-64 builds as KVM's one-off
-Werror enabling is *mostly* superseded by the kernel-wide WERROR, and
enabling KVM_WERROR by default can cause problems for developers working
on other subsystems.  E.g. subsystems that have a "zero W=1 regressions"
rule can inadvertently build KVM with -Werror and W=1, and end up with
build failures that are completely uninteresting to the developer (W=1 is
prone to false positives, especially on older compilers).

Keep KVM_WERROR as there are combinations where enabling WERROR isn't
feasible, e.g. the default FRAME_WARN=1024 on i386 builds generates a
non-zero number of warnings and thus errors, and there are far too many
warnings throughout the kernel to enable WERROR with W=1 (building KVM
with -Werror is desirable (with a sane compiler) as W=1 does generate
useful warnings).

Opportunistically drop the dependency on !COMPILE_TEST as it's completely
meaningless (it was copied from i195's -Werror Kconfig), as the kernel's
WERROR is explicitly *enabled* for COMPILE_TEST=y kernel's, i.e. enabling
-Werror is obviosly not dependent on COMPILE_TEST=n.

89ea60c2c7 KVM: x86: Add support for "protected VMs" that can utilize private memory
Add a new x86 VM type, KVM_X86_SW_PROTECTED_VM, to serve as a development
and testing vehicle for Confidential (CoCo) VMs, and potentially to even
become a "real" product in the distant future, e.g. a la pKVM.

The private memory support in KVM x86 is aimed at AMD's SEV-SNP and
Intel's TDX, but those technologies are extremely complex (understatement),
difficult to debug, don't support running as nested guests, and require
hardware that's isn't universally accessible.  I.e. relying SEV-SNP or TDX
for maintaining guest private memory isn't a realistic option.

At the very least, KVM_X86_SW_PROTECTED_VM will enable a variety of
selftests for guest_memfd and private memory support without requiring
unique hardware.

f128cf8cfb KVM: Convert KVM_ARCH_WANT_MMU_NOTIFIER to CONFIG_KVM_GENERIC_MMU_NOTIFIER
Convert KVM_ARCH_WANT_MMU_NOTIFIER into a Kconfig and select it where
appropriate to effectively maintain existing behavior.  Using a proper
Kconfig will simplify building more functionality on top of KVM's
mmu_notifier infrastructure.

Add a forward declaration of kvm_gfn_range to kvm_types.h so that
including arch/powerpc/include/asm/kvm_ppc.h's with CONFIG_KVM=n doesn't
generate warnings due to kvm_gfn_range being undeclared.  PPC defines
hooks for PR vs. HV without guarding them via #ifdeffery, e.g.

f10a570b09 KVM: x86: Add CONFIG_KVM_MAX_NR_VCPUS to allow up to 4096 vCPUs
Add a Kconfig entry to set the maximum number of vCPUs per KVM guest and
set the default value to 4096 when MAXSMP is enabled, as there are use
cases that want to create more than the currently allowed 1024 vCPUs and
are more than happy to eat the memory overhead.

The Hyper-V TLFS doesn't allow more than 64 sparse banks, i.e. allows a
maximum of 4096 virtual CPUs. Cap KVM's maximum number of virtual CPUs
to 4096 to avoid exceeding Hyper-V's limit as KVM support for Hyper-V is
unconditional, and alternatives like dynamically disabling Hyper-V
enlightenments that rely on sparse banks would require non-trivial code
changes.

Make building KVM SVM support depend on support for AMD or Hygon.  KVM
already effectively restricts SVM support to AMD and Hygon by virtue of
the vendor string checks in cpu_has_svm(), and KVM VMX supports depends
on one of its three known vendors (Intel, Centaur, or Zhaoxin).

Add the CPU_SUP_HYGON clause even though CPU_SUP_HYGON selects CPU_SUP_AMD
to document that KVM SVM support isn't just for AMD CPUs, and to prevent
breakage should Hygon support ever become a standalone thing.

Allow architectures to opt out of the generic hardware enabling logic,
and opt out on both s390 and PPC, which don't need to manually enable
virtualization as it's always on (when available).

In addition to letting s390 and PPC drop a bit of dead code, this will
hopefully also allow ARM to clean up its related code, e.g. ARM has its
own per-CPU flag to track which CPUs have enable hardware due to the
need to keep hardware enabled indefinitely when pKVM is enabled.

In order to differenciate between architectures that require no extra
synchronisation when accessing the dirty ring and those who do,
add a new capability (KVM_CAP_DIRTY_LOG_RING_ACQ_REL) that identify
the latter sort. TSO architectures can obviously advertise both, while
relaxed architectures must only advertise the ACQ_REL version.

This requires some configuration symbol rejigging, with HAVE_KVM_DIRTY_RING
being only indirectly selected by two top-level config symbols:
- HAVE_KVM_DIRTY_RING_TSO for strongly ordered architectures (x86)
- HAVE_KVM_DIRTY_RING_ACQ_REL for weakly ordered architectures (arm64)

982ed0de47 KVM: Reinstate gfn_to_pfn_cache with invalidation support
This can be used in two modes. There is an atomic mode where the cached
mapping is accessed while holding the rwlock, and a mode where the
physical address is used by a vCPU in guest mode.

For the latter case, an invalidation will wake the vCPU with the new
KVM_REQ_GPC_INVALIDATE, and the architecture will need to refresh any
caches it still needs to access before entering guest mode again.

Only one vCPU can be targeted by the wake requests; it's simple enough
to make it wake all vCPUs or even a mask but I don't see a use case for
that additional complexity right now.

Invalidation happens from the invalidate_range_start MMU notifier, which
needs to be able to sleep in order to wake the vCPU and wait for it.

This means that revalidation potentially needs to "wait" for the MMU
operation to complete and the invalidate_range_end notifier to be
invoked. Like the vCPU when it takes a page fault in that period, we
just spin — fixing that in a future patch by implementing an actual
*wait* may be another part of shaving this particularly hirsute yak.

As noted in the comments in the function itself, the only case where
the invalidate_range_start notifier is expected to be called *without*
being able to sleep is when the OOM reaper is killing the process. In
that case, we expect the vCPU threads already to have exited, and thus
there will be nothing to wake, and no reason to wait. So we clear the
KVM_REQUEST_WAIT bit and send the request anyway, then complain loudly
if there actually *was* anything to wake up.

ed922739c9 KVM: Use interval tree to do fast hva lookup in memslots
The current memslots implementation only allows quick binary search by gfn,
quick lookup by hva is not possible - the implementation has to do a linear
scan of the whole memslots array, even though the operation being performed
might apply just to a single memslot.

This significantly hurts performance of per-hva operations with higher
memslot counts.

Since hva ranges can overlap between memslots an interval tree is needed
for tracking them.

2aef6f306b perf: Force architectures to opt-in to guest callbacks
Introduce GUEST_PERF_EVENTS and require architectures to select it to
allow registering and using guest callbacks in perf.  This will hopefully
make it more difficult for new architectures to add useless "support" for
guest callbacks, e.g. via copy+paste.

Stubbing out the helpers has the happy bonus of avoiding a load of
perf_guest_cbs when GUEST_PERF_EVENTS=n on arm64/x86.

540745ddbc x86/sgx: Introduce virtual EPC for use by KVM guests
Add a misc device /dev/sgx_vepc to allow userspace to allocate "raw"
Enclave Page Cache (EPC) without an associated enclave. The intended
and only known use case for raw EPC allocation is to expose EPC to a
KVM guest, hence the 'vepc' moniker, virt.{c,h} files and X86_SGX_KVM
Kconfig.

The SGX driver uses the misc device /dev/sgx_enclave to support
userspace in creating an enclave. Each file descriptor returned from
opening /dev/sgx_enclave represents an enclave. Unlike the SGX driver,
KVM doesn't control how the guest uses the EPC, therefore EPC allocated
to a KVM guest is not associated with an enclave, and /dev/sgx_enclave
is not suitable for allocating EPC for a KVM guest.

Having separate device nodes for the SGX driver and KVM virtual EPC also
allows separate permission control for running host SGX enclaves and KVM
SGX guests.

To use /dev/sgx_vepc to allocate a virtual EPC instance with particular
size, the hypervisor opens /dev/sgx_vepc, and uses mmap() with the
intended size to get an address range of virtual EPC. Then it may use
the address range to create one KVM memory slot as virtual EPC for
a guest.

Implement the "raw" EPC allocation in the x86 core-SGX subsystem via
/dev/sgx_vepc rather than in KVM. Doing so has two major advantages:

  - Does not require changes to KVM's uAPI, e.g. EPC gets handled as
    just another memory backend for guests.

  - EPC management is wholly contained in the SGX subsystem, e.g. SGX
    does not have to export any symbols, changes to reclaim flows don't
    need to be routed through KVM, SGX's dirty laundry doesn't have to
    get aired out for the world to see, and so on and so forth.

The virtual EPC pages allocated to guests are currently not reclaimable.
Reclaiming an EPC page used by enclave requires a special reclaim
mechanism separate from normal page reclaim, and that mechanism is not
supported for virutal EPC pages. Due to the complications of handling
reclaim conflicts between guest and host, reclaiming virtual EPC pages
is significantly more complex than basic support for SGX virtualization.

72c3c0fe54 x86/kvm: Use generic xfer to guest work function
Use the generic infrastructure to check for and handle pending work before
transitioning into guest mode.

This now handles TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME as well which was ignored so
far. Handling it is important as this covers task work and task work will
be used to offload the heavy lifting of POSIX CPU timers to thread context.
