Pull btrfs updates from David Sterba:
 "New features:

   - raid-stripe-tree

     New tree for logical file extent mapping where the physical mapping
     may not match on multiple devices. This is now used in zoned mode
     to implement RAID0/RAID1* profiles, but can be used in non-zoned
     mode as well. The support for RAID56 is in development and will
     eventually fix the problems with the current implementation. This
     is a backward incompatible feature and has to be enabled at mkfs
     time.

   - simple quota accounting (squota)

     A simplified mode of qgroup that accounts all space on the initial
     extent owners (a subvolume), the snapshots are then cheap to create
     and delete. The deletion of snapshots in fully accounting qgroups
     is a known CPU/IO performance bottleneck.

     The squota is not suitable for the general use case but works well
     for containers where the original subvolume exists for the whole
     time. This is a backward incompatible feature as it needs extending
     some structures, but can be enabled on an existing filesystem.

   - temporary filesystem fsid (temp_fsid)

     The fsid identifies a filesystem and is hard coded in the
     structures, which disallows mounting the same fsid found on
     different devices.

     For a single device filesystem this is not strictly necessary, a
     new temporary fsid can be generated on mount e.g. after a device is
     cloned. This will be used by Steam Deck for root partition A/B
     testing, or can be used for VM root images.

  Other user visible changes:

   - filesystems with partially finished metadata_uuid conversion cannot
     be mounted anymore and the uuid fixup has to be done by btrfs-progs
     (btrfstune).

  Performance improvements:

   - reduce reservations for checksum deletions (with enabled free space
     tree by factor of 4), on a sample workload on file with many
     extents the deletion time decreased by 12%

   - make extent state merges more efficient during insertions, reduce
     rb-tree iterations (run time of critical functions reduced by 5%)

  Core changes:

   - the integrity check functionality has been removed, this was a
     debugging feature and removal does not affect other integrity
     checks like checksums or tree-checker

   - space reservation changes:

      - more efficient delayed ref reservations, this avoids building up
        too much work or overusing or exhausting the global block
        reserve in some situations

      - move delayed refs reservation to the transaction start time,
        this prevents some ENOSPC corner cases related to exhaustion of
        global reserve

      - improvements in reducing excessive reservations for block group
        items

      - adjust overcommit logic in near full situations, account for one
        more chunk to eventually allocate metadata chunk, this is mostly
        relevant for small filesystems (<10GiB)

   - single device filesystems are scanned but not registered (except
     seed devices), this allows temp_fsid to work

   - qgroup iterations do not need GFP_ATOMIC allocations anymore

   - cleanups, refactoring, reduced data structure size, function
     parameter simplifications, error handling fixes"

50564b651d btrfs: abort transaction on generation mismatch when marking eb as dirty
When marking an extent buffer as dirty, at btrfs_mark_buffer_dirty(),
we check if its generation matches the running transaction and if not we
just print a warning. Such mismatch is an indicator that something really
went wrong and only printing a warning message (and stack trace) is not
enough to prevent a corruption. Allowing a transaction to commit with such
an extent buffer will trigger an error if we ever try to read it from disk
due to a generation mismatch with its parent generation.

So abort the current transaction with -EUCLEAN if we notice a generation
mismatch. For this we need to pass a transaction handle to
btrfs_mark_buffer_dirty() which is always available except in test code,
in which case we can pass NULL since it operates on dummy extent buffers
and all test roots have a single node/leaf (root node at level 0).

Remove struct posix_acl_{access,default}_handler for all filesystems
that don't depend on the xattr handler in their inode->i_op->listxattr()

fs: port xattr to mnt_idmap
Convert to struct mnt_idmap.

Last cycle we merged the necessary infrastructure in
256c8aed2b ("fs: introduce dedicated idmap type for mounts").
This is just the conversion to struct mnt_idmap.

Currently we still pass around the plain namespace that was attached to a
mount. This is in general pretty convenient but it makes it easy to
conflate namespaces that are relevant on the filesystem with namespaces
that are relevent on the mount level. Especially for non-vfs developers
without detailed knowledge in this area this can be a potential source for
bugs.

Once the conversion to struct mnt_idmap is done all helpers down to the
really low-level helpers will take a struct mnt_idmap argument instead of
two namespace arguments. This way it becomes impossible to conflate the two
eliminating the possibility of any bugs. All of the vfs and all filesystems
only operate on struct mnt_idmap.

b51111271b btrfs: check if root is readonly while setting security xattr
For a filesystem which has btrfs read-only property set to true, all
write operations including xattr should be denied. However, security
xattr can still be changed even if btrfs ro property is true.

This happens because xattr_permission() does not have any restrictions
on security.*, system.* and in some cases trusted.* from VFS and
the decision is left to the underlying filesystem. See comments in
xattr_permission() for more details.

This patch checks if the root is read-only before performing the set
xattr operation.

Testcase:

  DEV=/dev/vdb
  MNT=/mnt

  mkfs.btrfs -f $DEV
  mount $DEV $MNT
  echo "file one" > $MNT/f1

  setfattr -n "security.one" -v 2 $MNT/f1
  btrfs property set /mnt ro true

  setfattr -n "security.one" -v 1 $MNT/f1

4b73c55fde btrfs: skip compression property for anything other than files and dirs
The compression property only has effect on regular files and directories
(so that it's propagated to files and subdirectories created inside a
directory). For any other inode type (symlink, fifo, device, socket),
it's pointless to set the compression property because it does nothing
and ends up unnecessarily wasting leaf space due to the pointless xattr
(75 or 76 bytes, depending on the compression value). Symlinks in
particular are very common (for example, I have almost 10k symlinks under
/etc, /usr and /var alone) and therefore it's worth to avoid wasting
leaf space with the compression xattr.

For example, the compression property can end up on a symlink or character
device implicitly, through inheritance from a parent directory

  $ mkdir /mnt/testdir
  $ btrfs property set /mnt/testdir compression lzo

  $ ln -s yadayada /mnt/testdir/lnk
  $ mknod /mnt/testdir/dev c 0 0

Or explicitly like this:

  $ ln -s yadayda /mnt/lnk
  $ setfattr -h -n btrfs.compression -v lzo /mnt/lnk

So skip the compression property on inodes that are neither a regular
file nor a directory.

193b4e8398 btrfs: do not BUG_ON() on failure to update inode when setting xattr
We are doing a BUG_ON() if we fail to update an inode after setting (or
clearing) a xattr, but there's really no reason to not instead simply
abort the transaction and return the error to the caller. This should be
a rare error because we have previously reserved enough metadata space to
update the inode and the delayed inode should have already been setup, so
an -ENOSPC or -ENOMEM, which are the possible errors, are very unlikely to
happen.

So replace the BUG_ON()s with a transaction abort.

0e852ab897 btrfs: do not allow compression on nodatacow files
Compression and nodatacow are mutually exclusive. A similar issue was
fixed by commit f37c563bab ("btrfs: add missing check for nocow and
compression inode flags"). Besides ioctl, there is another way to
enable/disable/reset compression directly via xattr. The following
steps will result in a invalid combination.

  $ touch bar
  $ chattr +C bar
  $ lsattr bar
  ---------------C-- bar
  $ setfattr -n btrfs.compression -v zstd bar
  $ lsattr bar
  --------c------C-- bar

To align with the logic in check_fsflags, nocompress will also be
unacceptable after this patch, to prevent mix any compression-related
options with nodatacow.

  $ touch bar
  $ chattr +C bar
  $ lsattr bar
  ---------------C-- bar
  $ setfattr -n btrfs.compression -v zstd bar
  setfattr: bar: Invalid argument
  $ setfattr -n btrfs.compression -v no bar
  setfattr: bar: Invalid argument

When both compression and nodatacow are enabled, then
btrfs_run_delalloc_range prefers nodatacow and no compression happens.

49d0c6424c btrfs: assert that extent buffers are write locked instead of only locked
We currently use lockdep_assert_held() at btrfs_assert_tree_locked(), and
that checks that we hold a lock either in read mode or write mode.

However in all contexts we use btrfs_assert_tree_locked(), we actually
want to check if we are holding a write lock on the extent buffer's rw
semaphore - it would be a bug if in any of those contexts we were holding
a read lock instead.

So change btrfs_assert_tree_locked() to use lockdep_assert_held_write()
instead and, to make it more explicit, rename btrfs_assert_tree_locked()
to btrfs_assert_tree_write_locked(), so that it's clear we want to check
we are holding a write lock.

For now there are no contexts where we want to assert that we must have
a read lock, but in case that is needed in the future, we can add a new
helper function that just calls out lockdep_assert_held_read().

This happens because at btrfs_mkdir() we call d_instantiate_new() while
holding a transaction handle, which results in the following call chain:

  btrfs_mkdir()
     trans = btrfs_start_transaction(root, 5);

     d_instantiate_new()
        smack_d_instantiate()
            __vfs_setxattr()
                btrfs_setxattr_trans()
                   btrfs_start_transaction()
                      start_transaction()
                         WARN_ON()
                           --> a tansaction start has TRANS_EXTWRITERS
                               set in its type
                         h->orig_rsv = h->block_rsv
                         h->block_rsv = NULL

     btrfs_end_transaction(trans)

Besides the warning triggered at start_transaction, we set the handle's
block_rsv to NULL which may cause some surprises later on.

So fix this by making btrfs_setxattr_trans() not start a transaction when
we already have a handle on one, stored in current->journal_info, and use
that handle. We are good to use the handle because at btrfs_mkdir() we did
reserve space for the xattr and the inode item.

acl: handle idmapped mounts
The posix acl permission checking helpers determine whether a caller is
privileged over an inode according to the acls associated with the
inode. Add helpers that make it possible to handle acls on idmapped
mounts.

The vfs and the filesystems targeted by this first iteration make use of
posix_acl_fix_xattr_from_user() and posix_acl_fix_xattr_to_user() to
translate basic posix access and default permissions such as the
ACL_USER and ACL_GROUP type according to the initial user namespace (or
the superblock's user namespace) to and from the caller's current user
namespace. Adapt these two helpers to handle idmapped mounts whereby we
either map from or into the mount's user namespace depending on in which
direction we're translating.
Similarly, cap_convert_nscap() is used by the vfs to translate user
namespace and non-user namespace aware filesystem capabilities from the
superblock's user namespace to the caller's user namespace. Enable it to
handle idmapped mounts by accounting for the mount's user namespace.

In addition the fileystems targeted in the first iteration of this patch
series make use of the posix_acl_chmod() and, posix_acl_update_mode()
helpers. Both helpers perform permission checks on the target inode. Let
them handle idmapped mounts. These two helpers are called when posix
acls are set by the respective filesystems to handle this case we extend
the ->set() method to take an additional user namespace argument to pass
the mount's user namespace down.

f2f121ab50 btrfs: skip unnecessary searches for xattrs when logging an inode
Every time we log an inode we lookup in the fs/subvol tree for xattrs and
if we have any, log them into the log tree. However it is very common to
have inodes without any xattrs, so doing the search wastes times, but more
importantly it adds contention on the fs/subvol tree locks, either making
the logging code block and wait for tree locks or making the logging code
making other concurrent operations block and wait.

The most typical use cases where xattrs are used are when capabilities or
ACLs are defined for an inode, or when SELinux is enabled.

This change makes the logging code detect when an inode does not have
xattrs and skip the xattrs search the next time the inode is logged,
unless the inode is evicted and loaded again or a xattr is added to the
inode. Therefore skipping the search for xattrs on inodes that don't ever
have xattrs and are fsynced with some frequency.

The following script that calls dbench was used to measure the impact of
this change on a VM with 8 CPUs, 16Gb of ram, using a raw NVMe device
directly (no intermediary filesystem on the host) and using a non-debug
kernel (default configuration on Debian distributions):

  $ cat test.sh
  #!/bin/bash

  DEV=/dev/sdk
  MNT=/mnt/sdk
  MOUNT_OPTIONS="-o ssd"

  mkfs.btrfs -f -m single -d single $DEV

3763771cf6 Btrfs: fix failure to persist compression property xattr deletion on fsync
After the recent series of cleanups in the properties and xattrs modules
that landed in the 5.2 merge window, we ended up with a regression where
after deleting the compression xattr property through the setflags ioctl,
we don't set the BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING flag in the inode anymore.
As a consequence, if the inode was fsync'ed when it had the compression
property set, after deleting the compression property through the setflags
ioctl and fsync'ing again the inode, the log will still contain the
compression xattr, because the inode did not had that bit set, which
made the fsync not delete all xattrs from the log and copy all xattrs
from the subvolume tree to the log tree.

This regression happens due to the fact that that series of cleanups
made btrfs_set_prop() call the old function do_setxattr() (which is now
named btrfs_setxattr()), and not the old version of btrfs_setxattr(),
which is now called btrfs_setxattr_trans().

Fix this by setting the BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING bit in the current
btrfs_setxattr() function and remove it from everywhere else, including
its setup at btrfs_ioctl_setflags(). This is cleaner, avoids similar
regressions in the future, and centralizes the setup of the bit. After
all, the need to setup this bit should only be in the xattrs module,
since it is an implementation of xattrs.

btrfs_set_prop() takes transaction pointer as the first argument,

the call chain btrfs_setxattr() starts transaction to update the
attribute and also to update the inode.

So for clarity, create btrfs_set_prop_trans() with no transaction
pointer as argument, in preparation to start transaction here instead of
doing it down the call chain at btrfs_setxattr().

Also now the btrfs_set_prop() is a static function.

Pull btrfs updates from David Sterba:
 "Features or user visible changes:

   - fallocate: implement zero range mode

   - avoid losing data raid profile when deleting a device

   - tree item checker: more checks for directory items and xattrs

  Notable fixes:

   - raid56 recovery: don't use cached stripes, that could be
     potentially changed and a later RMW or recovery would lead to
     corruptions or failures

   - let raid56 try harder to rebuild damaged data, reading from all
     stripes if necessary

   - fix scrub to repair raid56 in a similar way as in the case above

  Other:

   - cleanups: device freeing, removed some call indirections, redundant
     bio_put/_get, unused parameters, refactorings and renames

   - RCU list traversal fixups

   - simplify mount callchain, remove recursing back when mounting a
     subvolume

   - plug for fsync, may improve bio merging on multiple devices

   - compression heurisic: replace heap sort with radix sort, gains some
     performance

   - add extent map selftests, buffered write vs dio"

ae5e165d85 fs: new API for handling inode->i_version
Add a documentation blob that explains what the i_version field is, how
it is expected to work, and how it is currently implemented by various
filesystems.

We already have inode_inc_iversion. Add several other functions for
manipulating and accessing the i_version counter. For now, the
implementation is trivial and basically works the way that all of the
open-coded i_version accesses work today.

Future patches will convert existing users of i_version to use the new
API, and then convert the backend implementation to do things more
efficiently.

e79a33270d btrfs: Check name_len with boundary in verify dir_item
Originally, verify_dir_item verifies name_len of dir_item with fixed
values but not item boundary.
If corrupted name_len was not bigger than the fixed value, for example
255, the function will think the dir_item is fine. And then reading
beyond boundary will cause crash.

Example:
	1. Corrupt one dir_item name_len to be 255.
        2. Run 'ls -lar /mnt/test/ > /dev/null'

4a0cc7ca6c btrfs: Make btrfs_ino take a struct btrfs_inode
Currently btrfs_ino takes a struct inode and this causes a lot of
internal btrfs functions which consume this ino to take a VFS inode,
rather than btrfs' own struct btrfs_inode. In order to fix this "leak"
of VFS structs into the internals of btrfs first it's necessary to
eliminate all uses of struct inode for the purpose of inode. This patch
does that by using BTRFS_I to convert an inode to btrfs_inode. With
this problem eliminated subsequent patches will start eliminating the
passing of struct inode altogether, eventually resulting in a lot cleaner
code.
