e58a4ee41f can: rcar_canfd: rcar_canfd_handle_global_receive(): fix IRQ storm on global FIFO receive

We are seeing an IRQ storm on the global receive IRQ line under heavy
CAN bus load conditions with both CAN channels enabled.

Conditions:

The global receive IRQ line is shared between can0 and can1, either of
the channels can trigger interrupt while the other channel's IRQ line
is disabled (RFIE).

When global a receive IRQ interrupt occurs, we mask the interrupt in
the IRQ handler. Clearing and unmasking of the interrupt is happening
in rx_poll(). There is a race condition where rx_poll() unmasks the
interrupt, but the next IRQ handler does not mask the IRQ due to
NAPIF_STATE_MISSED flag (e.g.: can0 RX FIFO interrupt is disabled and
can1 is triggering RX interrupt, the delay in rx_poll() processing
results in setting NAPIF_STATE_MISSED flag) leading to an IRQ storm.

This patch fixes the issue by checking IRQ active and enabled before
handling the IRQ on a particular channel.

f8a1ac3db9 can: gs_usb: gs_can_open(): fix race dev->can.state condition

The dev->can.state is set to CAN_STATE_ERROR_ACTIVE, after the device
has been started. On busy networks the CAN controller might receive
CAN frame between and go into an error state before the dev->can.state
is assigned.

Assign dev->can.state before starting the controller to close the race
window.

clang emits a -Wunaligned-access warning on struct __packed
ems_cpc_msg.

The reason is that the anonymous union msg (not declared as packed) is
being packed right after some non naturally aligned variables (3*8
bits + 2*32) inside a packed struct:

339fa9f80d can: gs_usb: gs_usb_open/close(): fix memory leak
commit 2bda24ef95c0311ab93bda00db40486acf30bd0a upstream.

The gs_usb driver appears to suffer from a malady common to many USB
CAN adapter drivers in that it performs usb_alloc_coherent() to
allocate a number of USB request blocks (URBs) for RX, and then later
relies on usb_kill_anchored_urbs() to free them, but this doesn't
actually free them. As a result, this may be leaking DMA memory that's
been used by the driver.

This commit is an adaptation of the techniques found in the esd_usb2
driver where a similar design pattern led to a memory leak. It
explicitly frees the RX URBs and their DMA memory via a call to
usb_free_coherent(). Since the RX URBs were allocated in the
gs_can_open(), we remove them in gs_can_close() rather than in the
disconnect function as was done in esd_usb2.

208db88507 can: grcan: only use the NAPI poll budget for RX

The previous split budget between TX and RX made it return not using
the entire budget but at the same time not having calling called
napi_complete. This sometimes led to the poll to not be called, and at
the same time having TX and RX interrupts disabled resulting in the
driver getting stuck.

There are deadlocks caused by del_timer_sync(&priv->hang_timer) and
del_timer_sync(&priv->rr_timer) in grcan_close(), one of the deadlocks
are shown below:

We hold priv->lock in position (1) of thread 1 and use
del_timer_sync() to wait timer to stop, but timer handler also need
priv->lock in position (2) of thread 2. As a result, grcan_close()
will block forever.

This patch extracts del_timer_sync() from the protection of
spin_lock_irqsave(), which could let timer handler to obtain the
needed lock.

f7c60769ef can: gs_usb: change active_channels's type from atomic_t to u8

The driver uses an atomic_t variable: gs_usb:active_channels to keep
track of the number of opened channels in order to only allocate
memory for the URBs when this count changes from zero to one.

However, the driver does not decrement the counter when an error
occurs in gs_can_open(). This issue is fixed by changing the type from
atomic_t to u8 and by simplifying the logic accordingly.

It is safe to use an u8 here because the network stack big kernel lock
(a.k.a. rtnl_mutex) is being hold. For details, please refer to [1].

f5e5b20d8f can: xilinx_can: xcan_probe(): check for error irq

For the possible failure of the platform_get_irq(), the returned irq
could be error number and will finally cause the failure of the
request_irq().

Consider that platform_get_irq() can now in certain cases return
-EPROBE_DEFER, and the consequences of letting request_irq()
effectively convert that into -EINVAL, even at probe time rather than
later on. So it might be better to check just now.

In the function softing_startstop() the variable error_reporting is
assigned but not used. The code that uses this variable is commented
out. Its stated that the functionality is not finally verified.

To fix the warning:

remove the comment, activate the code, but add a "0 &&" to the if
expression and rely on the optimizer rather than the preprocessor to

No information is deliberately sent in hf->flags in host -> device
communications, but the open-source candleLight firmware echoes it
back, which can result in the GS_CAN_FLAG_OVERFLOW flag being set and
generating spurious ERRORFRAMEs.

While there also initialize the reserved member with 0.

2e663a0776 can: kvaser_usb: get CAN clock frequency from device

The CAN clock frequency is used when calculating the CAN bittiming
parameters. When wrong clock frequency is used, the device may end up
with wrong bittiming parameters, depending on user requested bittiming
parameters.

To avoid this, get the CAN clock frequency from the device. Various
existing Kvaser Leaf products use different CAN clocks.

After calling netif_receive_skb(skb), dereferencing skb is unsafe.
Especially, the can_frame cf which aliases skb memory is dereferenced
just after the call netif_receive_skb(skb).

Reordering the lines solves the issue.

   with coherent buffers.

So, all allocated buffers should be freed with usb_free_coherent()
explicitly.

Side note: This code looks like a copy-paste of other can drivers. The
same patch was applied to mcba_usb driver and it works nice with real
hardware. There is no change in functionality, only clean-up code for
coherent buffers.

3ec3f89169 can: dev: Move device back to init netns on owning netns delete

When a non-initial netns is destroyed, the usual policy is to delete
all virtual network interfaces contained, but move physical interfaces
back to the initial netns. This keeps the physical interface visible
on the system.

CAN devices are somewhat special, as they define rtnl_link_ops even
if they are physical devices. If a CAN interface is moved into a
non-initial netns, destroying that netns lets the interface vanish
instead of moving it back to the initial netns. default_device_exit()
skips CAN interfaces due to having rtnl_link_ops set. Reproducer:

To properly restore physical CAN devices to the initial netns on owning

Message loss from RX FIFO 0 is already handled in
m_can_handle_lost_msg(), with netdev output included.

Removing this warning also improves driver performance under heavy

After calling netif_rx_ni(skb), dereferencing skb is unsafe.
Especially, the can_frame cf which aliases skb memory is accessed
after the netif_rx_ni() in:
      stats->rx_bytes += cf->len;

Reordering the lines solves the issue.

c724aa57f8 can: gs_usb: fix endianess problem with candleLight firmware

The firmware on the original USB2CAN by Geschwister Schneider Technologie
Entwicklungs- und Vertriebs UG exchanges all data between the host and the
device in host byte order. This is done with the struct
gs_host_config::byte_order member, which is sent first to indicate the desired
byte order.

The widely used open source firmware candleLight doesn't support this feature
and exchanges the data in little endian byte order. This breaks if a device
with candleLight firmware is used on big endianess systems.

To fix this problem, all u32 (but not the struct gs_host_frame::echo_id, which
is a transparent cookie) are converted to __le32.

m_can_handle_state_change() is called with the new_state as an argument.

In the switch statements for CAN_STATE_ERROR_ACTIVE, the comment and the
following code indicate that a CAN_STATE_ERROR_WARNING is handled.

This patch fixes this problem by changing the case to CAN_STATE_ERROR_WARNING.

The left shift of int 32 bit integer constant 1 is evaluated using 32 bit
arithmetic and then assigned to a signed 64 bit variable. In the case where
time_ref->adapter->ts_used_bits is 32 or more this can lead to an oveflow.
Avoid this by shifting using the BIT_ULL macro instead.

Fabian Inostroza <fabianinostrozap@gmail.com> has discovered a potential
problem in the hardware timestamp reporting from the PCAN-USB USB CAN interface
(only), related to the fact that a timestamp of an event may precede the
timestamp used for synchronization when both records are part of the same USB
packet. However, this case was used to detect the wrapping of the time counter.

This patch details and fixes the two identified cases where this problem can
occur.

These values come from skb->data so Smatch considers them untrusted.  I
believe Smatch is correct but I don't have a way to test this.

The usb_if->dev[] array has 2 elements but the index is in the 0-15
range without checks.  The cfd->len can be up to 255 but the maximum
valid size is CANFD_MAX_DLEN (64) so that could lead to memory
corruption.

6968ec2573 can: dev: __can_get_echo_skb(): fix real payload length return value for RTR frames

The can_get_echo_skb() function returns the number of received bytes to
be used for netdev statistics. In the case of RTR frames we get a valid
(potential non-zero) data length value which has to be passed for further
operations. But on the wire RTR frames have no payload length. Therefore
the value to be used in the statistics has to be zero for RTR frames.
