8533fe8645 ALSA: hda/sigmatel: fix S/PDIF out on Intel D*45* motherboards
commit f342ac00da1064eb4f94b1f4bcacbdfea955797a upstream.

The BIOS botches this one completely - it says the 2nd S/PDIF output is
used, while in fact it's the 1st one. This is tested on DP45SG, but I'm
assuming it's valid for the other boards in the series as well.

Also add some comments regarding the pins.
FWIW, the codec is apparently still sold by Tempo Semiconductor, Inc.,
where one can download the documentation.

commit c17f8fd31700392b1bb9e7b66924333568cb3700 upstream.

df4af0ddf7 ALSA: emu10k1: fix capture interrupt handler unlinking
commit b09c551c77c7e01dc6e4f3c8bf06b5ffa7b06db5 upstream.

Due to two copy/pastos, closing the MIC or EFX capture device would
make a running ADC capture hang due to unsetting its interrupt handler.
In principle, this would have also allowed dereferencing dangling
pointers, but we're actually rather thorough at disabling and flushing
the ints.

While it may sound like one, this actually wasn't a hypothetical bug:
PortAudio will open a capture stream at startup (and close it right
away) even if not asked to. If the first device is busy, it will just
proceed with the next one ... thus killing a concurrent capture.

0044721f4f ALSA: hda/conexant: Partial revert of a quirk for Lenovo
commit b871cb971c683f7f212e7ca3c9a6709a75785116 upstream.

The recent commit f83bb2592482 ("ALSA: hda/conexant: Add quirk for
LENOVO 20149 Notebook model") introduced a quirk for the device with
17aa:3977, but this caused a regression on another model (Lenovo
Ideadpad U31) with the very same PCI SSID. And, through skimming over
the net, it seems that this PCI SSID is used for multiple different
models, so it's no good idea to apply the quirk with the SSID.

Although we may take a different ID check (e.g. the codec SSID instead
of the PCI SSID), unfortunately, the original patch author couldn't
identify the hardware details any longer as the machine was returned,
and we can't develop the further proper fix.

In this patch, instead, we partially revert the change so that the
quirk won't be applied as default for addressing the regression.
Meanwhile, the quirk function itself is kept, and it's now made to be
applicable via the explicit model=lenovo-20149 option.

7fc4e7191e ALSA: hda: Do not unset preset when cleaning up codec
[ Upstream commit 87978e6ad45a16835cc58234451111091be3c59a ]

Several functions that take part in codec's initialization and removal
are re-used by ASoC codec drivers implementations. Drivers mimic the
behavior of hda_codec_driver_probe/remove() found in
sound/pci/hda/hda_bind.c with their component->probe/remove() instead.

One of the reasons for that is the expectation of
snd_hda_codec_device_new() to receive a valid pointer to an instance of
struct snd_card. This expectation can be met only once sound card
components probing commences.

As ASoC sound card may be unbound without codec device being actually
removed from the system, unsetting ->preset in
snd_hda_codec_cleanup_for_unbind() interferes with module unload -> load
scenario causing null-ptr-deref. Preset is assigned only once, during
device/driver matching whereas ASoC codec driver's module reloading may
occur several times throughout the lifetime of an audio stack.

This loop accidentally reuses the "i" iterator for both the inside and

is a forever loop.

It looks like it was supposed to combined into one loop where

[ Upstream commit 91502a9a0b0d5252cf3f32ebd898823c2f5aadab ]

There are several PCI ids associated with HP EliteBook 855 G8 Notebook
PC. Commit 0e68c4b11f1e6 ("ALSA: hda/realtek: fix mute/micmute LEDs for
HP 855 G8") covers 0x103c:0x8896, while this commit covers 0x103c:0x8895
which needs some additional work on top of the quirk from 0e68c4b11f1e6.

Note that the device can boot up with working speakers and micmute LED
without this patch, but the success rate would be quite low (order of
16 working boots across 709 boots) at least for the built-in drivers
scenario. This also means that there are some timing issues during early
boot and this patch is a workaround.

With this patch applied speakers and headphones are consistenly working,
as well as mute/micmute LEDs and the internal microphone.

2c442b0c06 ALSA: hda/hdmi: Don't skip notification handling during PM operation
[ Upstream commit 5226c7b9784eee215e3914f440b3c2e1764f67a8 ]

The HDMI driver skips the notification handling from the graphics
driver when the codec driver is being in the PM operation. This
behavior was introduced by the commit eb399d3c99d8 ("ALSA: hda - Skip
ELD notification during PM process"). This skip may cause a problem,
as we may miss the ELD update when the connection/disconnection
happens right at the runtime-PM operation of the audio codec.

Although this workaround was valid at that time, it's no longer true;
the fix was required just because the ELD update procedure needed to
wake up the audio codec, which had lead to a runtime-resume during a
runtime-suspend. Meanwhile, the ELD update procedure doesn't need a
codec wake up any longer since the commit 788d441a164c ("ALSA: hda -
Use component ops for i915 HDMI/DP audio jack handling"); i.e. there
is no much reason for skipping the notification.

Let's drop those checks for addressing the missing notification.

The recent fix for IDT codecs to keep the power up while the beep is
enabled can be better integrated into the beep helper code.
This patch cleans up the code with refactoring.

commit 2ea8e1297801f7b0220ebf6ae61a5b74ca83981e upstream.

The ASUS ROG X16 (GV601R) series laptop has the same node-to-DAC pairs
as early models and the G14, this includes bass speakers which are by
default mapped incorrectly to the 0x06 node.

Add a quirk to use the same DAC pairs as the G14.

commit 417b9c51f59734d852e47252476fadc293ad994a upstream.

After some feedback from users with Dell Precision 5530 machines, this
patch reverts the previous change to add ALC289_FIXUP_DUAL_SPK.
While it improved the speaker output quality, it caused the headphone
jack to have an audible "pop" sound when power saving was toggled.

2fd1caa0c6 ALSA: hda: Fix position reporting on Poulsbo
commit 56e696c0f0c71b77fff921fc94b58a02f0445b2c upstream.

Hans reported that his Sony VAIO VPX11S1E showed the broken sound
behavior at the start of the stream for a couple of seconds, and it
turned out that the position_fix=1 option fixes the issue. It implies
that the position reporting is inaccurate, and very likely hitting on
all Poulsbo devices.

The patch applies the workaround for Poulsbo generically to switch to
LPIB mode instead of the default position buffer.

6d7a47e849 ALSA: hda/hdmi: Fix the converter reuse for the silent stream
[ Upstream commit 5f80d6bd2b01de4cafac3302f58456bf860322fc ]

When the user space pcm stream uses the silent stream converter,
it is no longer allocated for the silent stream. Clear the appropriate
flag in the hdmi_pcm_open() function. The silent stream setup may
be applied in hdmi_pcm_close() (and the error path - open fcn) again.

If the flag is not cleared, the reuse conditions for the silent
stream converter in hdmi_choose_cvt() may improperly share
this converter.
