144a80ef40 ppp: limit MRU to 64K

ppp_sync_ioctl allows setting device MRU, but does not sanity check
this input.

Limit to a sane upper bound of 64KB.

No implementation I could find generates larger than 64KB frames.
RFC 2823 mentions an upper bound of PPP over SDL of 64KB based on the
16-bit length field. Other protocols will be smaller, such as PPPoE
(9KB jumbo frame) and PPPoA (18190 maximum CPCS-SDU size, RFC 2364).
PPTP and L2TP encapsulate in IP.

ppp_sync_input() checks the first 2 bytes of the data are PPP_ALLSTATIONS
and PPP_UI. However, if the data length is 1 and the first byte is
PPP_ALLSTATIONS, an access to an uninitialized value occurs when checking
PPP_UI. This patch resolves this issue by checking the data length.

2758fb81bb pptp: Fix fib lookup calls.

PPTP uses pppox sockets (struct pppox_sock). These sockets don't embed
an inet_sock structure, so it's invalid to call inet_sk() on them.

Therefore, the ip_route_output_ports() call in pptp_connect() has two
problems:

  * The tos variable is set with RT_CONN_FLAGS(sk), which calls
    inet_sk() on the pppox socket.

  * ip_route_output_ports() tries to retrieve routing flags using
    inet_sk_flowi_flags(), which is also going to call inet_sk() on the
    pppox socket.

While PPTP doesn't use inet sockets, it's actually really layered on
top of IP and therefore needs a proper way to do fib lookups. So let's
define pptp_route_output() to get a struct rtable from a pptp socket.
Let's also replace the ip_route_output_ports() call of pptp_xmit() for
consistency.

In practice, this means that:

  * pptp_connect() sets ->flowi4_tos and ->flowi4_flags to zero instead
    of using bits of unrelated struct pppox_sock fields.

  * pptp_xmit() now respects ->sk_mark and ->sk_uid.

  * pptp_xmit() now calls the security_sk_classify_flow() security
    hook, thus allowing to set ->flowic_secid.

  * pptp_xmit() now passes the pppox socket to xfrm_lookup_route().

Found by code inspection.

2db344725e ppp: ensure minimum packet size in ppp_write()

It seems pretty clear ppp layer assumed user space
would always be kind to provide enough data
in their write() to a ppp device.

This patch makes sure user provides at least
2 bytes.

It adds PPP_PROTO_LEN macro that could replace
in net-next many occurrences of hard-coded 2 value.

I replaced only one occurrence to ease backports
to stable kernels.

51f4965d77 ppp: Fix generating ifname when empty IFLA_IFNAME is specified

IFLA_IFNAME is nul-term string which means that IFLA_IFNAME buffer can be
larger than length of string which contains.

Function __rtnl_newlink() generates new own ifname if either IFLA_IFNAME
was not specified at all or userspace passed empty nul-term string.

It is expected that if userspace does not specify ifname for new ppp netdev
then kernel generates one in format "ppp<id>" where id matches to the ppp
unit id which can be later obtained by PPPIOCGUNIT ioctl.

And it works in this way if IFLA_IFNAME is not specified at all. But it
does not work when IFLA_IFNAME is specified with empty string.

So fix this logic also for empty IFLA_IFNAME in ppp_nl_newlink() function
and correctly generates ifname based on ppp unit identifier if userspace
did not provided preferred ifname.

Without this patch when IFLA_IFNAME was specified with empty string then
kernel created a new ppp interface in format "ppp<id>" but id did not
match ppp unit id returned by PPPIOCGUNIT ioctl. In this case id was some
number generated by __rtnl_newlink() function.

bffead8d36 ppp: Fix generating ppp unit id when ifname is not specified

When registering new ppp interface via PPPIOCNEWUNIT ioctl then kernel has
to choose interface name as this ioctl API does not support specifying it.

Kernel in this case register new interface with name "ppp<id>" where <id>
is the ppp unit id, which can be obtained via PPPIOCGUNIT ioctl. This
applies also in the case when registering new ppp interface via rtnl
without supplying IFLA_IFNAME.

PPPIOCNEWUNIT ioctl allows to specify own ppp unit id which will kernel
assign to ppp interface, in case this ppp id is not already used by other
ppp interface.

In case user does not specify ppp unit id then kernel choose the first free
ppp unit id. This applies also for case when creating ppp interface via
rtnl method as it does not provide a way for specifying own ppp unit id.

If some network interface (does not have to be ppp) has name "ppp<id>"
with this first free ppp id then PPPIOCNEWUNIT ioctl or rtnl call fails.

And registering new ppp interface is not possible anymore, until interface
which holds conflicting name is renamed. Or when using rtnl method with
custom interface name in IFLA_IFNAME.

As list of allocated / used ppp unit ids is not possible to retrieve from
kernel to userspace, userspace has no idea what happens nor which interface
is doing this conflict.

So change the algorithm how ppp unit id is generated. And choose the first
number which is not neither used as ppp unit id nor in some network
interface with pattern "ppp<id>".

This issue can be simply reproduced by following pppd call when there is no
ppp interface registered and also no interface with name pattern "ppp<id>":

    pppd ifname ppp1 +ipv6 noip noauth nolock local nodetach pty "pppd +ipv6 noip noauth nolock local nodetach notty"

Or by creating the one ppp interface (which gets assigned ppp unit id 0),
renaming it to "ppp1" and then trying to create a new ppp interface (which
will always fails as next free ppp unit id is 1, but network interface with
name "ppp1" exists).

This patch fixes above described issue by generating new and new ppp unit
id until some non-conflicting id with network interfaces is generated.

279e54536d tty: convert tty_ldisc_ops 'read()' function to take a kernel pointer

The tty line discipline .read() function was passed the final user
pointer destination as an argument, which doesn't match the 'write()'
function, and makes it very inconvenient to do a splice method for
ttys.

This is a conversion to use a kernel buffer instead.

NOTE! It does this by passing the tty line discipline ->read() function
an additional "cookie" to fill in, and an offset into the cookie data.

The line discipline can fill in the cookie data with its own private
information, and then the reader will repeat the read until either the
cookie is cleared or it runs out of data.

The only real user of this is N_HDLC, which can use this to handle big
packets, even if the kernel buffer is smaller than the whole packet.

453431a549 mm, treewide: rename kzfree() to kfree_sensitive()
As said by Linus:

  A symmetric naming is only helpful if it implies symmetries in use.
  Otherwise it's actively misleading.

  In "kzalloc()", the z is meaningful and an important part of what the
  caller wants.

  In "kzfree()", the z is actively detrimental, because maybe in the
  future we really _might_ want to use that "memfill(0xdeadbeef)" or
  something. The "zero" part of the interface isn't even _relevant_.

The main reason that kzfree() exists is to clear sensitive information
that should not be leaked to other future users of the same memory
objects.

Rename kzfree() to kfree_sensitive() to follow the example of the recently
added kvfree_sensitive() and make the intention of the API more explicit.
In addition, memzero_explicit() is used to clear the memory to make sure
that it won't get optimized away by the compiler.

The renaming is done by using the command sequence:

  xargs sed -i 's/kzfree/kfree_sensitive/'

followed by some editing of the kfree_sensitive() kerneldoc and adding
a kzfree backward compatibility macro in slab.h.

a7f7f6248d treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'
Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.

This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

There are a variety of indentation styles found.

  b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
  c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
  d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
  e) 1 tab + '---help---'    (correct indentation)

b8c1583951 pppoe: only process PADT targeted at local interfaces
We don't want to disconnect a session because of a stray PADT arriving
while the interface is in promiscuous mode.
Furthermore, multicast and broadcast packets make no sense here, so
only PACKET_HOST is accepted.

ab92d68fc2 net: core: add generic lockdep keys
Some interface types could be nested.
(VLAN, BONDING, TEAM, MACSEC, MACVLAN, IPVLAN, VIRT_WIFI, VXLAN, etc..)
These interface types should set lockdep class because, without lockdep
class key, lockdep always warn about unexisting circular locking.

In the current code, these interfaces have their own lockdep class keys and
these manage itself. So that there are so many duplicate code around the
/driver/net and /net/.
This patch adds new generic lockdep keys and some helper functions for it.

This patch does below changes.
a) Add lockdep class keys in struct net_device
   - qdisc_running, xmit, addr_list, qdisc_busylock
   - these keys are used as dynamic lockdep key.
b) When net_device is being allocated, lockdep keys are registered.
   - alloc_netdev_mqs()
c) When net_device is being free'd llockdep keys are unregistered.
   - free_netdev()
d) Add generic lockdep key helper function
   - netdev_register_lockdep_key()
   - netdev_unregister_lockdep_key()
   - netdev_update_lockdep_key()
e) Remove unnecessary generic lockdep macro and functions
f) Remove unnecessary lockdep code of each interfaces.

After this patch, each interface modules don't need to maintain
their lockdep keys.

are compatible, so they can now handled by calling the native
ppp_ioctl() directly.

Without CONFIG_BLOCK, the generic compat_ioctl table is now empty,

17c7e7f407 compat_ioctl: handle PPPIOCGIDLE for 64-bit time_t
The ppp_idle structure is defined in terms of __kernel_time_t, which is
defined as 'long' on all architectures, and this usage is not affected
by the y2038 problem since it transports a time interval rather than an
absolute time.

However, the ppp user space defines the same structure as time_t, which
may be 64-bit wide on new libc versions even on 32-bit architectures.

It's easy enough to just handle both possible structure layouts on
all architectures, to deal with the possibility that a user space ppp
implementation comes with its own ppp_idle structure definition, as well
as to document the fact that the driver is y2038-safe.

Doing this also avoids the need for a special compat mode translation,
since 32-bit and 64-bit kernels now support the same interfaces.  The old
32-bit structure is also available on native 64-bit architectures now,
but this is harmless.

895b5c9f20 netfilter: drop bridge nf reset from nf_reset
commit 174e23810cd31
("sk_buff: drop all skb extensions on free and skb scrubbing") made napi
recycle always drop skb extensions.  The additional skb_ext_del() that is
performed via nf_reset on napi skb recycle is not needed anymore.

Most nf_reset() calls in the stack are there so queued skb won't block
'rmmod nf_conntrack' indefinitely.

This removes the skb_ext_del from nf_reset, and renames it to a more
fitting nf_reset_ct().

In a few selected places, add a call to skb_ext_reset to make sure that
no active extensions remain.

I am submitting this for "net", because we're still early in the release
cycle.  The patch applies to net-next too, but I think the rename causes
needless divergence between those trees.

055d88242a compat_ioctl: pppoe: fix PPPOEIOCSFWD handling
Support for handling the PPPOEIOCSFWD ioctl in compat mode was added in
linux-2.5.69 along with hundreds of other commands, but was always broken
sincen only the structure is compatible, but the command number is not,
due to the size being sizeof(size_t), or at first sizeof(sizeof((struct
sockaddr_pppox)), which is different on 64-bit architectures.

Guillaume Nault adds:

  And the implementation was broken until 2016 (see 29e73269aa4d ("pppoe:
  fix reference counting in PPPoE proxy")), and nobody ever noticed. I
  should probably have removed this ioctl entirely instead of fixing it.
  Clearly, it has never been used.

Fix it by adding a compat_ioctl handler for all pppoe variants that
translates the command number and then calls the regular ioctl function.

All other ioctl commands handled by pppoe are compatible between 32-bit
and 64-bit, and require compat_ptr() conversion.

This should apply to all stable kernels.

25a09ce796 ppp: mppe: Revert "ppp: mppe: Add softdep to arc4"
Commit 0e5a610b5ca5 ("ppp: mppe: switch to RC4 library interface"),
which was merged through the crypto tree for v5.3, changed ppp_mppe.c to
use the new arc4_crypt() library function rather than access RC4 through
the dynamic crypto_skcipher API.

Meanwhile commit aad1dcc4f011 ("ppp: mppe: Add softdep to arc4") was
merged through the net tree and added a module soft-dependency on "arc4".

The latter commit no longer makes sense because the code now uses the
"libarc4" module rather than "arc4", and also due to the direct use of
arc4_crypt(), no module soft-dependency is required.

So revert the latter commit.

The MPPE code uses the sync skcipher to invoke the ecb(arc4) skcipher,
of which only a single generic C code implementation exists. This means
that going through all the trouble of using scatterlists etc buys us
very little, and we're better off just invoking the arc4 library directly.

Note that the SHA1 shash used by this driver has several accelerated
implementations for various architectures, so retaining that part does
make sense.

2c1212de6f SPDX update for 5.2-rc2, round 1
Here are series of patches that add SPDX tags to different kernel files,
 based on two different things:
   - SPDX entries are added to a bunch of files that we missed a year ago

877b5691f2 crypto: shash - remove shash_desc::flags
The flags field in 'struct shash_desc' never actually does anything.
The only ostensibly supported flag is CRYPTO_TFM_REQ_MAY_SLEEP.
However, no shash algorithm ever sleeps, making this flag a no-op.

With this being the case, inevitably some users who can't sleep wrongly
pass MAY_SLEEP.  These would all need to be fixed if any shash algorithm
actually started sleeping.  For example, the shash_ahash_*() functions,
which wrap a shash algorithm with the ahash API, pass through MAY_SLEEP
from the ahash API to the shash API.  However, the shash functions are
called under kmap_atomic(), so actually they're assumed to never sleep.

Even if it turns out that some users do need preemption points while
hashing large buffers, we could easily provide a helper function
crypto_shash_update_large() which divides the data into smaller chunks
and calls crypto_shash_update() and cond_resched() for each chunk.  It's
not necessary to have a flag in 'struct shash_desc', nor is it necessary
to make individual shash algorithms aware of this at all.

Therefore, remove shash_desc::flags, and document that the
crypto_shash_*() functions can be called from any context.

sk_setup_caps() is called to set sk->sk_dst_cache in pptp_connect,

7fb1b8ca8f ppp: Move PFC decompression to PPP generic layer
Extract "Protocol" field decompression code from transport protocols to
PPP generic layer, where it actually belongs. As a consequence, this
patch fixes incorrect place of PFC decompression in L2TP driver (when
it's not PPPOX_BOUND) and also enables this decompression for other
protocols, like PPPoE.

Protocol field decompression also happens in PPP Multilink Protocol
code and in PPP compression protocols implementations (bsd, deflate,
mppe). It looks like there is no easy way to get rid of that, so it was
decided to leave it as is, but provide those cases with appropriate
comments instead.

In the quest to remove all stack VLA usage from the kernel[1], this
replaces struct crypto_skcipher and SKCIPHER_REQUEST_ON_STACK() usage

removes the discouraged use of AHASH_REQUEST_ON_STACK (and associated
VLA) by switching to shash directly and keeping the associated descriptor

a11e1d432b Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLL
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely
unexplained.  They also caused a huge performance regression, because
"->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down
to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect
calls.

Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the
performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the
"->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer
to the poll head instead.  That gets rid of one of the new indirections.

But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted
for the regular case.  The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes
was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case
slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all
really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental
redesign.

fad953ce0b treewide: Use array_size() in vzalloc()
The vzalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication
factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of:

        vzalloc(a * b)

with:
        vzalloc(array_size(a, b))

as well as handling cases of:

        vzalloc(a * b * c)

with:

        vzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c))

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

        vzalloc(4 * 1024)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.
