The PCI driver invokes the PHY APIs using the ks_pcie_enable_phy()
function. The PHY in this case is the Serdes. It is possible that the
PCI instance is configured for two lane operation across two different
Serdes instances, using one lane of each Serdes.
In such a configuration, if the reference clock for one Serdes is
provided by the other Serdes, it results in a race condition. After the
Serdes providing the reference clock is initialized by the PCI driver by
invoking its PHY APIs, it is not guaranteed that this Serdes remains
powered on long enough for the PHY APIs based initialization of the
dependent Serdes. In such cases, the PLL of the dependent Serdes fails
to lock due to the absence of the reference clock from the former Serdes
which has been powered off by the PM Core.
Fix this by obtaining reference to the PHYs before invoking the PHY
initialization APIs and releasing reference after the initialization is
complete.

Due to a hardware issue in A and B steppings of Intel IPU E2000, it expects
wrong endianness in ATS invalidation message body. This problem can lead to
outdated translations being returned as valid and finally cause system
instability.
To prevent such issues, add quirk_intel_e2000_no_ats() to disable ATS for
vulnerable IPU E2000 devices.

subsequent fix to it:
cc22522fd55e ("PCI: acpiphp: Use pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources() only for non-root bus")
40613da52b13 fixed a problem where hot-adding a device with large BARs
failed if the bridge windows programmed by firmware were not large enough.
cc22522fd55e ("PCI: acpiphp: Use pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources()
only for non-root bus") fixed a problem with 40613da52b13: an ACPI hot-add
of a device on a PCI root bus (common in the virt world) or firmware
sending ACPI Bus Check to non-existent Root Ports (e.g., on Dell Inspiron
7352/0W6WV0) caused a NULL pointer dereference and suspend/resume hangs.
Unfortunately the combination of 40613da52b13 and cc22522fd55e caused other
problems:
- Fiona reported that hot-add of SCSI disks in QEMU virtual machine fails
sometimes.
- Dongli reported a similar problem with hot-add of SCSI disks.
- Jonathan reported a console freeze during boot on bare metal due to an
error in radeon GPU initialization.
Revert both patches to avoid adding these problems. This means we will
again see the problems with hot-adding devices with large BARs and the NULL
pointer dereferences and suspend/resume issues that 40613da52b13 and
cc22522fd55e were intended to fix.

There is nothing PCI bus specific in the of_msi_map_rid()
implementation other than the requester ID tag for the input
ID space. Rename requester ID to a more generic ID so that
the translation code can be used by all busses that require
input/output ID translations.
No functional change intended.

of_msi_map_get_device_domain() is PCI specific but it need not be and
can be easily changed to be bus agnostic in order to be used by other
busses by adding an IRQ domain bus token as an input parameter.

since it can be used to retrieve IRQ domain nexus of any kind
by adding an irq_domain_bus_token input to it.

The __init annotation makes the ks_pcie_probe() function disappear after
booting completes. However a device can also be bound later. In that case,
we try to call ks_pcie_probe(), but the backing memory is likely already
overwritten.
The right thing to do is do always have the probe callback available. Note
that the (wrong) __refdata annotation prevented this issue to be noticed by
modpost.

With CONFIG_PCIE_KEYSTONE=y and ks_pcie_remove() marked with __exit, the
function is discarded from the driver. In this case a bound device can
still get unbound, e.g via sysfs. Then no cleanup code is run resulting in
resource leaks or worse.
The right thing to do is do always have the remove callback available.
Note that this driver cannot be compiled as a module, so ks_pcie_remove()
was always discarded before this change and modpost couldn't warn about
this issue. Furthermore the __ref annotation also prevents a warning.

struct pci_dev contains two flags which govern whether the device may
suspend to D3cold:
* no_d3cold provides an opt-out for drivers (e.g. if a device is known
to not wake from D3cold)
* d3cold_allowed provides an opt-out for user space (default is true,
user space may set to false)
Since commit 9d26d3a8f1b0 ("PCI: Put PCIe ports into D3 during suspend"),
the user space setting overwrites the driver setting. Essentially user
space is trusted to know better than the driver whether D3cold is
working.
That feels unsafe and wrong. Assume that the change was introduced
inadvertently and do not overwrite no_d3cold when d3cold_allowed is
modified. Instead, consider d3cold_allowed in addition to no_d3cold
when choosing a suspend state for the device.
That way, user space may opt out of D3cold if the driver hasn't, but it
may no longer force an opt in if the driver has opted out.

The AMD VanGogh SoC contains a DesignWare USB3 Dual-Role Device that can be
operated as either a USB Host or a USB Device, similar to on the AMD Nolan
platform.
be6646bfbaec ("PCI: Prevent xHCI driver from claiming AMD Nolan USB3 DRD
device") added a quirk to let the dwc3 driver claim the Nolan device since
it provides more specific support.
Extend that quirk to include the VanGogh SoC USB3 device.

d5af729dc207 ("PCI: Mark NVIDIA T4 GPUs to avoid bus reset") avoided
Secondary Bus Reset on the T4 because the reset seemed to not work when the
T4 was directly attached to a Root Port.
But NVIDIA thinks the issue is probably related to some issue with the Root
Port, not with the T4. The T4 provides neither PM nor FLR reset, so
masking bus reset compromises this device for assignment scenarios.
Revert d5af729dc207 as requested by Wu Zongyong. This will leave SBR
broken in the specific configuration Wu tested, as it was in v6.5, so Wu
will debug that further.

Don't assume that the device is fully under the control of ASPM and use RMW
capability accessors which do proper locking to avoid losing concurrent
updates to the register values.
If configuration fails in pcie_aspm_configure_common_clock(), the
function attempts to restore the old PCI_EXP_LNKCTL_CCC settings. Store
only the old PCI_EXP_LNKCTL_CCC bit for the relevant devices rather
than the content of the whole LNKCTL registers. It aligns better with
how pcie_lnkctl_clear_and_set() expects its parameter and makes the
code more obvious to understand.

NVIDIA T4 GPUs do not work with SBR. This problem is found when the T4 card
is direct attached to a Root Port only. Avoid bus reset by marking T4 GPUs
PCI_DEV_FLAGS_NO_BUS_RESET.

40613da52b13 ("PCI: acpiphp: Reassign resources on bridge if necessary")
changed acpiphp hotplug to use pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources()
which depends on bridge being available, however enable_slot() can be
called without bridge associated:
1. Legitimate case of hotplug on root bus (widely used in virt world)
2. A (misbehaving) firmware, that sends ACPI Bus Check notifications to
non existing root ports (Dell Inspiron 7352/0W6WV0), which end up at
enable_slot(..., bridge = 0) where bus has no bridge assigned to it.
acpihp doesn't know that it's a bridge, and bus specific 'PCI
subsystem' can't augment ACPI context with bridge information since
the PCI device to get this data from is/was not available.
Issue is easy to reproduce with QEMU's 'pc' machine, which supports PCI
hotplug on hostbridge slots. To reproduce, boot kernel at commit
40613da52b13 in VM started with following CLI (assuming guest root fs is
installed on sda1 partition):

The issue was discovered on Dell Inspiron 7352/0W6WV0 laptop with following
sequence:
1. Suspend to RAM
2. Wake up with the same backtrace being observed:
3. 2nd suspend to RAM attempt makes laptop freeze
Fix it by using __pci_bus_assign_resources() instead of
pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources() as we used to do, but only in case
when bus doesn't have a bridge associated (to cover for the case of ACPI
event on hostbridge or non existing root port).
That lets us keep hotplug on root bus working like it used to and at the

When using ACPI PCI hotplug, hotplugging a device with large BARs may fail
if bridge windows programmed by firmware are not large enough.

PCIe r6.0.1, sec 7.5.3.7, recommends setting the link control parameters,
then waiting for the Link Training bit to be clear before setting the
Retrain Link bit.
This avoids a race where the LTSSM may not use the updated parameters if it
is already in the midst of link training because of other normal link
activity.
Wait for the Link Training bit to be clear before toggling the Retrain Link
bit to ensure that the LTSSM uses the updated link control parameters.

The address translation unit of the rockchip EP controller does not use
the lower 8 bits of a PCIe-space address to map local memory. Thus we
must set the align feature field to 256 to let the user know about this

Fix legacy IRQ generation for RK3399 PCIe endpoint core according to
the technical reference manual (TRM). Assert and deassert legacy
interrupt (INTx) through the legacy interrupt control register
("PCIE_CLIENT_LEGACY_INT_CTRL") instead of manually generating a PCIe
message. The generation of the legacy interrupt was tested and validated
with the PCIe endpoint test driver.

The RK3399 PCIe controller should wait until the PHY PLLs are locked.
Add poll and timeout to wait for PHY PLLs to be locked. If they cannot
be locked generate error message and jump to error handler. Accessing
registers in the PHY clock domain when PLLs are not locked causes hang
The PHY PLLs status is checked through a side channel register.
This is documented in the TRM section 17.5.8.1 "PCIe Initialization
Sequence".

Write PCI Device ID (DID) to the correct register. The Device ID was not
updated through the correct register. Device ID was written to a read-only
register and therefore did not work. The Device ID is now set through the
correct register. This is documented in the RK3399 TRM section 17.6.6.1.1

Assert PCI Configuration Enable bit after probe. When this bit is left to
0 in the endpoint mode, the RK3399 PCIe endpoint core will generate
configuration request retry status (CRS) messages back to the root complex.
Assert this bit after probe to allow the RK3399 PCIe endpoint core to reply
to configuration requests from the root complex.
This is documented in section 17.5.8.1.2 of the RK3399 TRM.

If a PCIe hotplug slot has an Attention Button, the normal hot-add flow is:
- Slot is empty and slot power is off
- User inserts card in slot and presses Attention Button
- OS blinks Power Indicator for 5 seconds
- After 5 seconds, OS turns on Power Indicator, turns on slot power, and
enumerates the device
Previously, if a user pressed the Attention Button on an *empty* slot,
pciehp logged the following messages and blinked the Power Indicator
until a second button press:

[5.001] # 5 second timeout; slot is empty, so we should cancel the
request to power on and turn off Power Indicator

The first button press incorrectly left the slot in BLINKINGON_STATE, so
the second was interpreted as a "cancel power on" event regardless of
whether a card was present.
If the slot is empty, turn off the Power Indicator and return from
BLINKINGON_STATE to OFF_STATE after 5 seconds, effectively canceling the
request to power on. Putting the slot in OFF_STATE also means the second
button press will correctly request a slot power on if the slot is
occupied.

Struct pcie_link_state->downstream is a pointer to the pci_dev of function
0. Previously we retained that pointer when removing function 0, and
subsequent ASPM policy changes dereferenced it, resulting in a

Since day 1 of the driver, there has been a race between
hv_pci_query_relations() and survey_child_resources(): during fast
device hotplug, hv_pci_query_relations() may error out due to
device-remove and the stack variable 'comp' is no longer valid;
however, pci_devices_present_work() -> survey_child_resources() ->
complete() may be running on another CPU and accessing the no-longer-valid
'comp'. Fix the race by flushing the workqueue before we exit from
hv_pci_query_relations().

Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1]
(or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings
(e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized,
either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes.
In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining
needless uses with the following script:

In 2013, commits
2e35afaefe64 ("PCI: pciehp: Add reset_slot() method")
608c388122c7 ("PCI: Add slot reset option to pci_dev_reset()")
amended PCIe hotplug to mask Presence Detect Changed events during a
Secondary Bus Reset. The reset thus no longer causes gratuitous slot
bringdown and bringup.
However the commits neglected to serialize reset with code paths reading
slot registers. For instance, a slot bringup due to an earlier hotplug
event may see the Presence Detect State bit cleared during a concurrent
Secondary Bus Reset.
In 2018, commit
5b3f7b7d062b ("PCI: pciehp: Avoid slot access during reset")
retrofitted the missing locking. It introduced a reset_lock which
serializes a Secondary Bus Reset with other parts of pciehp.
Unfortunately the locking turns out to be overzealous: reset_lock is
held for the entire enumeration and de-enumeration of hotplugged devices,
including driver binding and unbinding.
Driver binding and unbinding acquires device_lock while the reset_lock
of the ancestral hotplug port is held. A concurrent Secondary Bus Reset
acquires the ancestral reset_lock while already holding the device_lock.
The asymmetric locking order in the two code paths can lead to AB-BA
deadlocks.

Fix by releasing the reset_lock during driver binding and unbinding,
thereby splitting and shrinking the critical section.
Driver binding and unbinding is protected by the device_lock() and thus
serialized with a Secondary Bus Reset. There's no need to additionally
protect it with the reset_lock. However, pciehp does not bind and
unbind devices directly, but rather invokes PCI core functions which
also perform certain enumeration and de-enumeration steps.
The reset_lock's purpose is to protect slot registers, not enumeration
and de-enumeration of hotplugged devices. That would arguably be the
job of the PCI core, not the PCIe hotplug driver. After all, an
AER-induced Secondary Bus Reset may as well happen during boot-time
enumeration of the PCI hierarchy and there's no locking to prevent that
either.
Exempting *de-enumeration* from the reset_lock is relatively harmless:
A concurrent Secondary Bus Reset may foil config space accesses such as
PME interrupt disablement. But if the device is physically gone, those
accesses are pointless anyway. If the device is physically present and
only logically removed through an Attention Button press or the sysfs
"power" attribute, PME interrupts as well as DMA cannot come through
because pciehp_unconfigure_device() disables INTx and Bus Master bits.
That's still protected by the reset_lock in the present commit.
Exempting *enumeration* from the reset_lock also has limited impact:
The exempted call to pci_bus_add_device() may perform device accesses
through pcibios_bus_add_device() and pci_fixup_device() which are now
no longer protected from a concurrent Secondary Bus Reset. Otherwise
there should be no impact.
In essence, the present commit seeks to fix the AB-BA deadlocks while
still retaining a best-effort reset protection for enumeration and
de-enumeration of hotplugged devices -- until a general solution is
implemented in the PCI core.

This lockdep warning is triggered because with Thunderbolt, hotplug ports
are nested. When removing multiple devices in a daisy-chain, each hotplug
port's reset_lock may be acquired recursively. It's never the same lock, so
the lockdep splat is a false positive.
Because locks at the same hierarchy level are never acquired recursively, a
per-level lockdep class is sufficient to fix the lockdep warning.
The choice to use one lockdep subclass per pcie-hotplug controller in the
path to the root-bus was made to conserve class keys because their number
is limited and the complexity grows quadratically with number of keys
according to Documentation/locking/lockdep-design.rst.

commit bb38919ec56e ("PCI: imx6: Add support for i.MX6 PCIe controller")
added a fault hook to this driver in the probe function. So it was only
installed if needed.
commit bde4a5a00e76 ("PCI: imx6: Allow probe deferral by reset GPIO")
moved it from probe to driver init which installs the hook unconditionally
as soon as the driver is compiled into a kernel.
When this driver is compiled as a module, the hook is not registered
until after the driver has been matched with a .compatible and
loaded.
commit 415b6185c541 ("PCI: imx6: Fix config read timeout handling")
extended the fault handling code.
commit 2d8ed461dbc9 ("PCI: imx6: Add support for i.MX8MQ")
added some protection for non-ARM architectures, but this does not
protect non-i.MX ARM architectures.
Since fault handlers can be triggered on any architecture for different
reasons, there is no guarantee that they will be triggered only for the
assumed situation, leading to improper error handling (i.MX6-specific
imx6q_pcie_abort_handler) on foreign systems.
I had seen strange L3 imprecise external abort messages several times on
OMAP4 and OMAP5 devices and couldn't make sense of them until I realized
they were related to this unused imx6q driver because I had
CONFIG_PCI_IMX6=y.
Note that CONFIG_PCI_IMX6=y is useful for kernel binaries that are designed
to run on different ARM SoC and be differentiated only by device tree
binaries. So turning off CONFIG_PCI_IMX6 is not a solution.
Therefore we check the compatible in the init function before registering
the fault handler.

Sheng Bi reports that pci_bridge_secondary_bus_reset() may fail to wait
for devices on the secondary bus to become accessible after reset:
Although it does call pci_dev_wait(), it erroneously passes the bridge's
pci_dev rather than that of a child. The bridge of course is always
accessible while its secondary bus is reset, so pci_dev_wait() returns
immediately.
Sheng Bi proposes introducing a new pci_bridge_secondary_bus_wait()
function which is called from pci_bridge_secondary_bus_reset():

However we already have pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus() which does
almost exactly what we need. So far it's only called on resume from
D3cold (which implies a Fundamental Reset per PCIe r6.0 sec 5.8).
Re-using it for Secondary Bus Resets is a leaner and more rational
approach than introducing a new function.
That only requires a few minor tweaks:
- Amend pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus() to await accessibility of
the first device on the secondary bus by calling pci_dev_wait() after
performing the prescribed delays. pci_dev_wait() needs two parameters,
a reset reason and a timeout, which callers must now pass to
pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus(). The timeout is 1 sec for resume
(PCIe r6.0 sec 6.6.1) and 60 sec for reset (commit 821cdad5c46c ("PCI:
Wait up to 60 seconds for device to become ready after FLR")).
Introduce a PCI_RESET_WAIT macro for the 1 sec timeout.
- Amend pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus() to return 0 on success or
-ENOTTY on error for consumption by pci_bridge_secondary_bus_reset().
- Drop an unnecessary 1 sec delay from pci_reset_secondary_bus() which
is now performed by pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus(). A static
delay this long is only necessary for Conventional PCI, so modern
PCIe systems benefit from shorter reset times as a side effect.

Wangxun has verified there is no peer-to-peer between functions for the
below selection of SFxxx, RP1000 and RP2000 NICS. They may be
multi-function devices, but the hardware does not advertise ACS capability.
Add an ACS quirk for these devices so the functions can be in independent
IOMMU groups.

PCI passthrough to VMs does not work with AMD FCH AHCI adapters: the guest
OS fails to correctly probe devices attached to the controller due to FIS
communication failures:

Forcing the "bus" reset method before unbinding & binding the adapter to
the vfio-pci driver solves this issue, e.g.:
echo "bus" > /sys/bus/pci/devices/<ID>/reset_method
gives a working guest OS, indicating that the default FLR reset method
doesn't work correctly.
Apply quirk_no_flr() to AMD FCH AHCI devices to work around this issue.

On surprise removal, pciehp_unconfigure_device() and acpiphp's
trim_stale_devices() call pci_dev_set_disconnected() to mark removed
devices as permanently offline. Thereby, the PCI core and drivers know
to skip device accesses.
However pci_dev_set_disconnected() takes the device_lock and thus waits for
a concurrent driver bind or unbind to complete. As a result, the driver's
->probe and ->remove hooks have no chance to learn that the device is gone.
That doesn't make any sense, so drop the device_lock and instead use atomic
xchg() and cmpxchg() operations to update the device state.
As a byproduct, an AB-BA deadlock reported by Anatoli is fixed which occurs
on surprise removal with AER concurrently performing a bus reset.

If a PCI bridge is suspended to D3cold upon entering system sleep,
resuming it entails a Fundamental Reset per PCIe r6.0 sec 5.8.
The delay prescribed after a Fundamental Reset in PCIe r6.0 sec 6.6.1
is sought to be observed by:
pci_pm_resume_noirq()
pci_pm_bridge_power_up_actions()
pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus()
However, pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus() bails out if the bridge_d3
flag is not set. That flag indicates whether a bridge is allowed to
suspend to D3cold at *runtime*.
Hence *no* delay is observed on resume from system sleep if runtime
D3cold is forbidden. That doesn't make any sense, so drop the bridge_d3
check from pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus().
The purpose of the bridge_d3 check was probably to avoid delays if a
bridge remained in D0 during suspend. However the sole caller of
pci_bridge_wait_for_secondary_bus(), pci_pm_bridge_power_up_actions(),
is only invoked if the previous power state was D3cold. Hence the
additional bridge_d3 check seems superfluous.

When pci_create_attr() fails, pci_remove_resource_files() is called which
will iterate over the res_attr[_wc] arrays and frees every non NULL entry.

pci_device_is_present() previously didn't work for VFs because it reads the
Vendor and Device ID, which are 0xffff for VFs, which looks like they
aren't present. Check the PF instead.
Wei Gong reported that if virtio I/O is in progress when the driver is
unbound or "0" is written to /sys/.../sriov_numvfs, the virtio I/O

This happened because pci_device_is_present(VF) returned "false" in
virtio_pci_remove(), so it called virtio_break_device(). The broken vq
meant that vring_interrupt() skipped the vq.callback() that would have
completed the virtio I/O operation via virtblk_done().

When pci_assign_resource() is unable to assign resources to a BAR, it uses
pci_revert_fw_address() to fall back to a firmware assignment (if any).
Previously pci_revert_fw_address() assumed all addresses could reach the
device, but this is not true if the device is below a bridge that only
forwards addresses within its windows.
This problem was observed on a Tyan Tomcat IV S1564D system where the BIOS
did not assign valid addresses to several bridges and USB devices:

If the address assigned by firmware is not reachable because it's not
within upstream bridge windows, fail instead of assigning the unusable
address from firmware.
