In a former commit, 'tstamp' member was removed from 'struct snd_ctl_elem_value' in a middle way toward solution of Y2038 issue. In a protocol of ALSA control interface, this member is designed to deliver timestamp information in the value structure when the target element supports SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_ACCESS_TIMESTAMP flag. Actually, the feature is neither used by kernel space nor user space, especiall alsa-lib has no API for the feature. Therefore it's reasonable to remove both of them. Practically, the timestamp information corresponds to no information about type of clock ID. It can bring confusions to applications. Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
