Non-mq devs do not honor REQ_NOWAIT so give a chance to the caller to repeat request gracefully on -EAGAIN error. The problem is well reproduced using io_uring: mkfs.ext4 /dev/ram0 mount /dev/ram0 /mnt # Preallocate a file dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/file bs=1M count=1 # Start fio with io_uring and get -EIO fio --rw=write --ioengine=io_uring --size=1M --direct=1 --name=job --filename=/mnt/file Signed-off-by: Roman Penyaev <rpenyaev@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>

Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
