These helpers scatters or gathers a bitmap with the help of the mask position bits parameter. bitmap_scatter() does the following: src: 0000000001011010 |||||| +------+||||| | +----+|||| | |+----+||| | || +-+|| | || | || mask: ...v..vv...v..vv ...0..11...0..10 dst: 0000001100000010 and bitmap_gather() performs this one: mask: ...v..vv...v..vv src: 0000001100000010 ^ ^^ ^ 0 | || | 10 | || > 010 | |+--> 1010 | +--> 11010 +----> 011010 dst: 0000000000011010 bitmap_gather() can the seen as the reverse bitmap_scatter() operation. Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
