maint: fix improper use of 'an'

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=648855 mentioned a
misuse of 'an' where 'a' is proper; that has since been fixed,
but a search found other problems (some were a spelling error for
'and', while most were fixed by 'a').
