For proper usage of Cache kernel metadata format V2,
new cache_check tool is basically mandatory.
Print warning during configure time about this problem.
Avoid reporting 'checking result' as maybe - it should
clearly tell 'yes' or 'no'.
Just shuffle printed message to the place, where we
already know the 'maybe' answer.
So instead of printing 'unclear':
checking whether to enable libblkid detection of signatures when wiping... maybe
checking for BLKID... yes
checking whether to use udev-systemd protocol for jobs in background... maybe
checking for SYSTEMD... yes
show this:
checking for BLKID... yes

checking for SYSTEMD... yes
checking whether to use udev-systemd protocol for jobs in background... yes
Add a daemon that can be launched to monitor a group of regions
corresponding to the extents of a file, and to update the regions as the
file's allocation changes.
The daemon is intended to be started from a library interface, but can
also be run from the command line:
dmfilemapd <fd> <group_id> <path> <mode> [<foreground>[<log_level>]]
Where fd is a file descriptor open on the mapped file, group_id is the
group identifier of the mapped group and mode is either "inode" or
"path". E.g.:
# dmfilemapd 3 0 vm.img inode 1 3 3<vm.img
...
If foreground is non-zero, the daemon will not fork to run in the
background. If verbose is non-zero, libdm and daemon log messages will
be printed.
It is possible for the group identifier to change when regions are
re-mapped: this occurs when the group leader is deleted (regroup=1 in
dm_stats_update_regions_from_fd()), and another region is created before
the daemon has a chance to recreate the leader region.
The operation is inherently racey since there is currently no way to
atomically move or resize a dm_stats region while retaining its
region_id.
Detect this condition and update the group_id value stored in the
filemap monitor.
A function is also provided in the the stats API to launch the filemap
monitoring daemon:
int dm_stats_start_filemapd(int fd, uint64_t group_id, const char *path,
dm_filemapd_mode_t mode, unsigned foreground,
unsigned verbose);
This carries out the first fork and execs dmfilemapd with the arguments
specified.
A dm_filemapd_mode_t value is specified by the mode argument: either
DM_FILEMAPD_FOLLOW_INODE, or DM_FILEMAPD_FOLLOW_PATH. A helper function,
dm_filemapd_mode_from_string(), is provided to parse a string containing
a valid mode name into the appropriate dm_filemapd_mode_t value.
When user requested on cmdline disabling of lvmetad/lvmpoll,
respect it and when lvmlockd requires these daemon,
Error configure with clear message about misconfiguration.
If not using explicit --enable-blkid-wiping/--disable-blkid-wiping
configure option, the configure script tries to enable/disable blkid
wiping feature automatically based on blkid library version found.
The script incorrectly set default value for lvm.conf's
allocation/use_blkid_wiping" setting to "1" (enabled) if proper
blkid library version was not found or the version found was less
than the minimum required. It should be set to "0" in this case.
The udev_device_get_is_initialized is available since libudev version
165. Older versions are still used somewhere (e.g. RHEL6). So better
check for this fn and use it only if it's available.
Commit 9403edbb93 move location of
configure.h and lvm-version.h.
Let's try even better place then /conf dir which should be left
for user configurable files.
Put these files right into include dir.
librt doesn't have a pkgconfig file so use Libs.private: -lrt instead
to declare the dependency directly.
The same applies for -lm which is also used and which hasn't been
defined in the devmapper.pc file yet.
We already use -lm functions in a couple of places (these are
satisfied by gcc built-ins for most builds): add a configure.in
check and explicitly link to -lm.
If the Linux timerfd interface to POSIX timers is available at compile
time use it for all report interval timekeeping. This gives more
accurate interval timing when the per-interval processing time is less
than the configured interval and simplifies the timestamp bookkeeping
required to keep accurate time.
For systems without timerfd support fall back to the simple usleep based
timer.
Just like we have DEFAULT_USE_LVMETAD (or DEFUALT_USE_LVMPOLLD), use
fallback_to_lvm1=1 lvm.conf setting if we configured lvm2 with
--enable-lvm1-fallback and use fallback_to_lvm1=0 otherwise.
Also, generate proper lvm.conf.in with unconfigured value.
If blkid wiping is possible, than set use_blkid_wiping=1 and
use_blkid_wiping=0 otherwise for its default value. If blkid wiping
is disabled during configure and use_blkid_wiping=1 is set by chance,
it's simply ignored - this patch is just a cleanup that makes it more
obvious for the user (we use similar logic for use_lvmetad and
use_lvmpolld settings).
Previous patch incorrectly skipped replace of @LOCALEDIR@.
The standard option is --localedir so use --with-localedir
as backward compatible option and set localedir if it's not
yet been set (if the could ever happen).
Use double-eval to translate $datarootdir to $prefix to real dir.
Basic support for upstream 'build' of rpm packages.
Make spec file generated.
2 new simple targets:
make dist - create LVM2.MAJOR.MINOR.PATCHLEVEL.tgz from git files.
make rpm - some generic rpmbuilder using spec files.
Create packages in build/ subdir.
DO NOT USE created rpms in any distribution!
Configure provides proper settings for
use_lvmetad and use_lvmpolld conf setttings.
When the build of polld & lvmetad, these settings
are enabled by default unless explicitelly disabled
with --disable-use-lvmetad/--disable-use-lvmpolld.
Fix incorrect test in configure which sets --enable-udev-systemd-background-jobs
automatically if proper systemd version is available.
The UDEV_SYSTEMD_BACKGROUND_JOBS variable was not properly set to "yes" in
case systemd is available and we had "maybe" for this variable before.
Commit d2c116058e introduced regression
with CLVMD_PATH.
+ CLVMD_PATH="$clvmd_prefix/sbin/clvmd"
test "$prefix" != NONE && clvmd_prefix=$prefix
It has set CLVMD_PATH before clvmd_prefix got its final value.
Move it one line below.
In case someone wants to use @some_path@ that contains
prefix or exec_prefix and it's used in other files than Makefiles
(Makefiles used make.tmpl to expand these).
systemd-run is available in systemd>=205. Also, this fix prevents
systemd-specific udev rules in 69-dm-lvm-metad.rules to appear in
case systemd environment is not available - make configure to check
this automatically and use these systemd specific rules only if it
is applicable.
The "default.profile" name was misleading. It's actually a helper
*template* that can be used for copying and further editing to create
a new profile.
Also, we have separate command and metadata profiles now so the templates
are separated as well - we can't mix profile settings from one group with
another - such profile is rejected by lvm tools.
Improve testing for needs_check - when old tools are installed,
issue proper warning from configure, but stop sending needs_check
flag to the old tool.
- better add reference to lvm dumpconfig --type default
than stating that lvmetad is not enabled by default
- substitute #DEFAULT_PID_DIR# with concrete value
This should be the preferred way of configuring lvm2 for udev/systemd
since otherwise one can end up with the processes run from udev (the
pvscan we run for lvmetad update on events) to be killed prematurely
and this can end up with LVM volumes not activated in the end.
lvm2_cluster_activation_red_hat.service.in -> lvm2_cluster_activation_systemd_red_hat.service.in
lvm2_clvmd_red_hat.service.in -> lvm2_clvmd_red_hat.service.in
Edit lvm2-cluster-activation reference on cmirror - take new
lvm2-cmirrord.service, it was just cmirrord(.service) before
as the old initscript was used in compatibility mode.
Also, use WantedBy=multi-user.target instead of sysinit.target
in lvm2-cluster-activation.service.
This patch adds the new cachepool segment type - the first of two
necessary to eventually create 'cache' logical volumes. In addition
to the new segment type, updates to makefiles, configure files, the
lv_segment struct, and some necessary libdevmapper flags.
The cachepool is the LV and corresponding segment type that will hold
all information pertinent to the cache itself - it's size, cachemode,
cache policy, core arguments (like migration_threshold), etc.
The new lvm2-pvscan@.service is responsible for on-demand execution
of "pvscan --cache --activate ay" which causes lvmetad to be
updated and LVM activation done if the VG is complete.
Also, use udev-systemd mechanism to instantiate the job as the
lvm2-pvscan@$devnode.service on each newly appeared PV in the system.
This prevents the background job to be killed (that would happen
if it was directly forked from udev rule - this behaviour is seen
in recent versions of udev with the help of systemd that can track
detached processes - the detached process would still be in the same
cgroup).
To enable this official udev-systemd protocol for instantiating
background jobs, use new --enable-udev-systemd-background-jobs
configure switch (it's disabled by default). This option is highly
recommended wherever systemd is used!
Add new configure lvm.conf options for binaries thin_repair
and thin_dump.
Those are part of device-mapper-persistent-data package
and will be used for recovery of thin_pool.
The idea of using 'eprefix' unfortunatelly fails on /usr moved distros.
But there is also default --sysconfdir which is normaly set to /etc.
If unset it's PREFIX/etc.
For now revert.
FIXME: replace lvm vars with standard ones everyone is using.
Seems like we have a bit overcomplicated set of options
for deducing individual install dirs.
This patch fixes installation issues with DESTDIR,
but the whole set of configure options should be simplified.
Configuration profiles are selected configuration items that can
be loaded dynamically on demand and overlayed over existing
configuration on demand (either on cmd line by selecting the profile
name to be used globally or retrieved from metadata and used per
VG/LV basis only).
The default directory where profiles are stored is configurable
at compile time with --with-default-profile-subdir.
When the init scripts are run from within systemd, the systemd
needs to know the pidfile for it to work correctly when the
daemon itself is killed. Otherwise, systemd keeps these services
in "active" and "exited state" at the same time
(it assumes RemainAfterExit=yes without the pidfile reference in
chkconfig header).
See also https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=971819#c5.
Use configure --enable-python_bindings to generate them.
Note that the Makefiles do not yet control the owner or permissions of
the two new files on installation.
The OpenAIS checkpoint library is going away; therefore, cmirrord must
operate without it. The algorithms the handle the timing of when to send
a checkpoint, the determination of what to send, and which ongoing cluster
requests are relevent with respect to the checkpoints are unaffected. We
need only replace the functions that actually perform the storing/transmitting
and retrieving/receiving of the checkpoint data. Rather than store the
checkpoint data in an OpenAIS checkpoint file, we simply transmit it along
with the message that notifies the incoming node that the checkpoint is
ready.
/etc/tmpfiles.d directory holds configuration files for temporary/volatile
files and directories that should be automatically managed. For example,
if we have some parts of the fs hierarchy on tmpfs, we'd like to recreate
some files or directories on every boot so they're always prepared for use.
Systemd can read such configuration files. For now, the lock and run directory
are the ones that are most probably placed on tmpfs. If this is the case, we
can install the configuration by 'make install_tmpfiles_configuration'.
Built-in blkid is supported since udev v176 - set the UDEV_HAS_BUILTIN_BLKID
variable appropriately so we can use it in the rules to call the built-in
blkid conditionaly.
udev may also need to be disabled if you didn't build it statically too.
dmeventd.static could be fixed with some more work but I don't really see the
point: without dlopen() it's useless, and if you have dlopen(), why not support
normal shared libraries too?
Next iteration for better fit of lvmetad compilation.
Move build of libdaemon.a into common subdir Makefile.
libdaemon.a is device-mapper target.
Build and install lvmetad as lvm2 target.
Read 2 environmental vars to learn about overide position for
CLVMD and LVM binaries.
We support LVM_BINARY in other script - and this way we could easily
test restart in our test-suite.
Implementation described in doc/lvm2-raid.txt.
Basic support includes:
- ability to create RAID 1/4/5/6 arrays
- ability to delete RAID arrays
- ability to display RAID arrays
Notable missing features (not included in this patch):
- ability to clean-up/repair failures
- ability to convert RAID segment types
- ability to monitor RAID segment types
Make configurable default behaviour how to deal with device node creates.
With udev system natural options should be 'resume'.
For older systems where user expect there is node in /dev/mapper immediately
after dmsetup create --notable - use 'create'
FIXME:
Code needs fixing passing this flag through udev cookie.
