Add coverity annotations to suppress false positive warnings for
unimportant results across multiple files including dmeventd,
lvmlockd, display, logging, dmsetup, and man-generator components.
In most cases header should be self-compilable, so the
do not expect other 'header' files to be used upfront
so the header would be compilable.
No functional change.
When processing LVs for a command we stored '*object_id' & '*group_id'
as printable string that was however only used with json reporting.
Refactor code so we simply store there 'struct id*' that is just
converted into printable string when json reporting is really used.
Also check for 'sigint()' right before loop processing begins which
is primary purpose of this test.
Let's move proc into include/configure.h so this define can
be easily used across the source base.
Configure defines it - but ATM we do not provide any configure
option to change it - there should be no need to ever change it.
Let's stop Coverity thinking here we are using freed FILE*
for anything else then comparing numbers.
For this use the original source of old_stream pointer.
Last commit c38b668fc3 was pushed
with type 'scanf' instead of 'sscanf' needed for buffer reading.
Interestingly this caused scanning from 'stdin' descriptor and
thus failures in lvm shell usage.
The code in init_log_file relies on the process name (COMM) to not
contain whitespaces. This change fixes it by looking up the right-most
parenthesis to safely jump past COMM.
For more context see:

Code is only used with testing, so it should have no impact on regular
users.

If we failed or logged anything before we actually execute given command
in lvm shell, we couldn't report the log using lastlog command after.
This patch adds specific 'pre-cmd' log report object type to identify
such log messages and enables lastlog to report even this log.
Just setting lvm.conf level=N should not send messages to
syslog (now the journal by default.)
Sending messages to syslog should require setting lvm.conf
log { syslog=1 level=N }.
Configure via lvm.conf log/journal or command line --journal.
Possible values:
"command" records command information.
"output" records default command output.
"debug" records full command debugging.
Multiple values can be set in lvm.conf as an array.
One value can be set in --journal which is added to
values set in lvm.conf
Use different 'hint' size for dm_hash_create() call - so
when debug info about hash is printed we can recognize which
hash was in use.
This patch doesn't change actual used size since that is always
rounded to be power of 2 and >=16 - so as such is only a
help to developer.
We could eventually use 'name' arg, but since this would have changed
API and this patchset will be routed to libdm & stable - we will
just use this small trick.
For users who do not want all of the fields included
in debug lines, let them specify in lvm.conf which
fields to include. timestamp, command[pid], and
file:line fields can all be disabled.
Without this, the output from different commands in a single
log file could not be separated.
Change the default "indent" setting to 0 so that the default
debug output does not include variable spaces in the middle
of debug lines.
The systemd generators are executed very early during the switch
from initramfs to system partition and the syslog is not yet fully
operational - it may cause blocking, if some debug logging is enabled
at the same time in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf log{} section.
To avoid timeouting and killing this generator - rather enhance lvm
code to suppress any syslog communication when LVM_SUPPRESS_SYSLOG
envvar is set.
Use of this envvar is needed since the parsing of i.e. cmdline options
that could eventually override lvm.conf setting happens in this case
way too late and number of lines could have been already streamed to
syslog.
As we start refactoring the code to break dependencies (see doc/refactoring.txt),
I want us to use full paths in the includes (eg, #include "base/data-struct/list.h").
This makes it more obvious when we're breaking abstraction boundaries, eg, including a file in
metadata/ from base/
Introduce enum dev_io_reason to categorise block device I/O
in debug messages so it's obvious what it is for.
DEV_IO_SIGNATURES /* Scanning device signatures */
DEV_IO_LABEL /* LVM PV disk label */
DEV_IO_MDA_HEADER /* Text format metadata area header */
DEV_IO_MDA_CONTENT /* Text format metadata area content */
DEV_IO_FMT1 /* Original LVM1 metadata format */
DEV_IO_POOL /* Pool metadata format */
DEV_IO_LV /* Content written to an LV */
DEV_IO_LOG /* Logging messages */
- Use 'lvmcache' consistently instead of 'metadata cache'
- Always use 5 characters for source line number
- Remember to convert uuids into printable form
- Use <no name> rather than (null) when VG has no name.
Add explaining message, when command was aborted due to the reach
of configure line number count (LVM_LOG_FILE_MAX_LINES)
for logging (used mainly with testing).
Introduce macros:
log_level(), log_stderr(), log_once(), log_bypass_report()
For easier and more consisten way how to 'decoder' bits
of info from passed 'level'.
This patch fixes potential problem when 'level' of message
might not have always masked right bits.
Add new log_context=shell and with log_object_type=cmd and
log_object_name=<command_name> for command log report to collect
overall return code from last command (this is reported under
log_type=status).
Currently, the output is separated in 3 parts and each part can go into
a separate and user-defined file descriptor:
- common output (stdout by default, customizable by LVM_OUT_FD environment variable)
- error output (stderr by default, customizable by LVM_ERR_FD environment variable)
- report output (stdout by default, customizable by LVM_REPORT_FD environment variable)
For example, each type of output goes to different output file:
[0] fedora/~ # export LVM_REPORT_FD=3
[0] fedora/~ # lvs fedora vg/abc 1>out 2>err 3>report
[0] fedora/~ # cat out
[0] fedora/~ # cat err
Volume group "vg" not found
Cannot process volume group vg
[0] fedora/~ # cat report

Another example in LVM shell where the report goes to "report" file:
[0] fedora/~ # export LVM_REPORT_FD=3
[0] fedora/~ # lvm 3>report
(in lvm shell)
lvm> vgs

When logging to epoch files we would like to prevent creating too large
log files otherwise a spining command could fulfill available space
very easily and quickly.
Limit for to 100000 per command.
