aefdc1124f man: update version information
As I noticed a lot of missing information when trying to implement checking
for missing info. I reimplemented the version information script to be more
robust, and here is the result.

ec07c3c80b man: add version info
This tries to add information about when each option was added. It goes
back to version 183.

The version info is included from a separate file to allow generating it,
which would allow more control on the formatting of the final output.

0923b4253c tree-wide: replace "plural(s)" by "plurals"
(s) is just ugly with a vibe of DOS. In most cases just using the normal plural
form is more natural and gramatically correct.

There are some log_debug() statements left, and texts in foreign licenses or
headers. Those are not touched on purpose.

d39079fcaa hostnamed: stop discriminating against "localhost" in /etc/hostname
We would sometimes ignore localhost-style names in /etc/hostname. That is
brittle. If the user configured some hostname, it's most likely because they
want to use that as the hostname. If they don't want to use such a hostname,
they should just not create the config. Everything becomes simples if we just
use the configured hostname as-is.

This behaviour seems to have been a workaround for Anaconda installer and other
tools writing out /etc/hostname with the default of "localhost.localdomain".
Anaconda PR to stop doing that: https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/pull/3040.
That might have been useful as a work-around for other programs misbehaving if
/etc/hostname was not present, but nowadays it's not useful because systemd
mostly controls the hostname and it is perfectly happy without that file.

Apart from making things simpler, this allows users to set a hostname like
"localhost" and have it honoured, if such a whim strikes them.

de31bbc6b1 man/hostnamectl,hostaned,hostname1: adjust the docs to match reality
The semantics were significantly changed in c779a44222
("hostnamed: Fix the way that static and transient host names interact", Feb. 2014),
but when the dbus api documentation was imported much later, it wasn't properly
adjusted to describe those new semantics.

34293dfafd which added systemd.hostname= also
added new behaviour.

Let's ove various bits and pieces around so that they are in more appropriate
places. Drop recommendations to set the hostname for DHCP or mDNS purposes.
Nowadays we expect tools that want to expose some different hostname to the
outside to manage that internally without affecting visible state. Also drop
mentions of DHCP or mDNS directly setting the hostname, since nowadays network
management software is expected to (and does) go through hostnamed.

Also, add a high-level description of semantics. It glosses over the details of
handling of localhost-style names. Later commits will remove this special handling
anyway.

38b38500c6 tree-wide: use "hostname" spelling everywhere
It's not that I think that "hostname" is vastly superior to "host name". Quite
the opposite — the difference is small, and in some context the two-word version
does fit better. But in the tree, there are ~200 occurrences of the first, and
>1600 of the other, and consistent spelling is more important than any particular
spelling choice.

0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

12b42c7667 man: revert dynamic paths for split-usr setups
This did not really work out as we had hoped. Trying to do this upstream
introduced several problems that probably makes it better suited as a
downstream patch after all. At any rate, it is not releaseable in the
current state, so we at least need to revert this before the release.

 * by adjusting the path to binaries, but not do the same thing to the
search path we end up with inconsistent man-pages. Adjusting the search
path too would be quite messy, and it is not at all obvious that this is
worth the effort, but at any rate it would have to be done before we
   could ship this.

 * this means that distributed man-pages does not make sense as they depend
on config options, and for better or worse we are still distributing
man pages, so that is something that definitely needs sorting out before
we could ship with this patch.

 * we have long held that split-usr is only minimally supported in order
to boot, and something we hope will eventually go away. So before we start
adding even more magic/effort in order to make this work nicely, we should
probably question if it makes sense at all.

681eb9cf2b man: generate configured paths in manpages
In particular, use /lib/systemd instead of /usr/lib/systemd in distributions
like Debian which still have not adopted a /usr merge setup.

Use XML entities from man/custom-entities.ent to replace configured paths while
doing XSLT processing of the original XML files. There was precedent of some
files (such as systemd.generator.xml) which were already using this approach.

This addresses most of the (manual) fixes from this patch:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-systemd/systemd.git/tree/debian/patches/Fix-paths-in-man-pages.patch?h=experimental-220

The idea of using generic XML entities was presented here:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2015-May/032240.html

This patch solves almost all the issues, with the exception of:
- Path to /bin/mount and /bin/umount.
- Generic statements about preference of /lib over /etc.

These will be handled separately by follow up patches.

Tested:
- With default configure settings, ran "make install" to two separate
directories and compared the output to confirm they matched exactly.
- Used a set of configure flags including $CONFFLAGS from Debian:
  http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-systemd/systemd.git/tree/debian/rules
Installed the tree and confirmed the paths use /lib/systemd instead of
/usr/lib/systemd and that no other unexpected differences exist.
- Confirmed that `make distcheck` still passes.

c779a44222 hostnamed: Fix the way that static and transient host names interact
It is almost always incorrect to allow DHCP or other sources of
transient host names to override an explicitly configured static host
name.

This commit changes things so that if a static host name is set, this
will override the transient host name (eg: provided via DHCP). Transient
host names can still be used to provide host names for machines that have
not been explicitly configured with a static host name.

The exception to this rule is if the static host name is set to
"localhost". In those cases we act as if no
static host name has been explicitly set.

As discussed elsewhere, systemd may want to have an fd based ownership
of the transient name. That part is not included in this commit.

56ba3c78ae build-sys: create Makefile-man.am automatically
man rules were repeating the same information in too many places,
which was error prone. Those rules can be easily generated from .xml
files. For efficiency and because python is not a required dependency,
Makefile-man.am is only regenerated when requested with

  make update-man-list

If no metadata in man/*.xml changed, this file should not change. So
only when a new man page or a new alias is added, this file should
show up in 'git diff'. The change should then be committed.

If the support for building from git without python was dropped, we
could drop Makefile-man.am from version control. This would also
increase the partial build time (since more stuff would be rebuild
whenever sources in man/*.xml would be modified), so it would probably
wouldn't be worth it.
