AIX *will not* enable large file support of *any* description unless either -D_LARGE_FILES or -D_LARGE_FILES_API are defined. I chose "-D_LARGE_FILES" as this leads to cleaner code... Another large patch for the passdb rewrite. o added BOOL own_memory flag in SAM_ACCOUNT so we could use static memory for string pointer assignment or allocate a new string o added a reference TDB passdb backend. This is only a reference and should not be used in production because - RID's are generated using the same algorithm as with smbpasswd - a TDB can only have one key (w/o getting into problems) and we need three. Therefore the pdb_sam-getpwuid() and pdb_getsampwrid() functions are interative searches :-( we need transaction support, multiple indexes, and a nice open source DBM. The Berkeley DB (from sleepycat.com seems to fit this criteria now) o added a new parameter "private dir" as many places in the code were using lp_smb_passwd_file() and chopping off the filename part. This makes more sense to me and I will docuement it in the man pages o Ran through Insure-lite and corrected memory leaks. Added SWAT i18n feature: TO enable configure with --with-i18n-swat to support this gettext is integrated and a new directories name "po" and "intl" are created. now these languages are supported: en - English (default) ja - Japanese po - Polish tr - Turkish To add your language, to create ${your_language}.po by translating source/po/en.po into your language is needed. some of html and image files of various language version are not included yet, though message catalogue files are installed. you need to copy files manually under ${swatdir}/lang/$ln/{help,images,included,using_samba} And also added a option to intall manual pages: of various lang version To enable configure with --with-manlangs but manual pages themself are not included yet. The big character set handling changeover! This commit gets rid of all our old codepage handling and replaces it with iconv. All internal strings in Samba are now in "unix" charset, which may be multi-byte. See internals.doc and my posting to samba-technical for a more complete explanation. Two changes in this ball... 1) Changes to smbmnt.c, smbmount.c, and smbumount.c allow them to compile on both RedHat 4.x (libc 4.x) systems and RedHat 5.x (glibc 2) systems. 2) Changes to Makefile.in and configure.in (and subsequently configure) are to configure for smbmount, smbumount, and smbmnt to compile. This adds a "--with(out)-smbmount" option to configure. Sanity checking is not present yet. You can specify this if you are not on linux, it just won't compile. Changed to sourceforge tdb code. This includes spinlocks (so we now have a --with-spinlocks option to configure, this does mean the on-disk tdb format has changed, so 2.2alphaX sites will need to re-create their tdb's. XFILE is a cut-down replacemnt of stdio that doesn't suffer from the 8-bit filedescriptor limit that we hit with nasty consequences on some systems I would eventually prefer us to have a configure test to see if we need to replace stdio, but for now this code needs to be tested widely so I'm enabling it by default. Cause smbd to use the new posix_acls code, not the old unix_acls code. Currently does exactly the same thing (returns ACLs the same way). This code is written to try and get a POSIX ACL via the abstract sys_XX interface, then fall back to providing a UNIX based ACL if the calls fail. Seems to work. Next step is to add a --with-posix-acls to configure.in and then check on a POSIX ACL system that a complex ACL is returned correctly as an NT ACL. Currently there are several places where smbpasswd entries are iterated etc. Ideally this should all happen through the passdb system. switched over to a new method of handling uppercase/lowercase mappings for unicode strings. The new method relies on 3 files that are mmap'd at startup to provide the mapping tables. The upcase.dat and lowcase.dat tables should be the same on all systems. The valid.dat table says what characters are valid in 8.3 names, and differs between systems. I'm committing the japanese valid.dat here, in future we need some way of automatically installing and choosing a appropriate table. This commit also adds my mini tdb based gettext replacement in intl/lang_tdb.c. I have not enabled this yet and have not removed the old gettext code as the new code is still being looked at by Monyo. Right now the code assumes that the upcase.dat, lowcase.dat and valid.dat files are installed in the Samba lib directory. That is not a good choice, but I'll leave them there until we work out the new install directory structure for Samba 3.0. simo - please look at the isvalid_w() function and think about using it in your new mangling code. initial client side unicode support (needed for netapp filer) I've currently got this code disabled by default as it is incomplete. You enable it by setting a USE_UNICODE environment variable. Once the support is complete this check will be removed and the CAP_UNICODE capability bit will be the sole determination of whether the client library code uses unicode right now I have converted session_setup and tconx. I will do more fns over the next few days. see clistr.c for the new client side string interface. Luckily it tends to make the code smaller and neater while adding unicode support. Futhermore, this moves that entire area over to the libsmb codebase, rather than the crufty old rpc_client stuff. I have also fixed up the smbpasswd -a -m bug in the process. We also have a new 'net rpc changetrustpw' that can be called from a cron-job to regularly change the trust account password, for sites that run winbind but not smbd. With a little more work, we can kill rpc_client from smbd entirly! (It is mostly the domain auth stuff - which I can rework - and the spoolss stuff that sombody else will need to look over). Ok - this is the *third* implementation of this (third time's the charm :-). This implementation keeps all POSIX lock records in a separate in memory tdb database only known about in locking/posix.c. In addition, the pending close fd's are also held in a tdb which has an array of fd's indexed by device and inode. The walk-split code uglyness has been moved to posix.c from brlock.c, which is the only place that needs to know about it, and the extra functions hacked into brlock to expose internal state have been removed. This implementation passes smbtorture locktest4, the only thing I need to check now for completeness is what to do about lock upgrade/downgrades which Win32 allows under some *very* strange circumstances. Ken McDonell from SGI was interested in adding some profiling capabilities to Samba so that Samba could talk to the SGI PCP (Performance Co-Pilot) apps. This change adds a profiling shared memory area and uses it to count two fairly trivial things, the number of uid switches and the number of SMB packets processes. To add more just edit include/profile.h and then increment it at the right place. I've also added a -P switch to smbstatus to dump the profile area. totally rewrote the async signal, notification and oplock notification handling in Samba. This was needed due to several limitations and races in the previous code - as a side effect the new code is much cleaner :) in summary: - changed sys_select() to avoid a signal/select race condition. It is a rare race but once we have signals doing notification and oplocks it is important. - changed our main processing loop to take advantage of the new sys_select semantics - split the notify code into implementaion dependent and general parts. Added the following structure that defines an implementation: struct cnotify_fns { void * (*register_notify)(connection_struct *conn, char *path, uint32 flags); BOOL (*check_notify)(connection_struct *conn, uint16 vuid, char *path, uint32 flags, void *data, time_t t); void (*remove_notify)(void *data); }; then I wrote two implementations, one using hash/poll (like our old code) and the other using the new Linux kernel change notify. It should be easy to add other change notify implementations by creating a sructure of the above type. - fixed a bug in change notify where we were returning the wrong error code. - rewrote the core change notify code to be much simpler - moved to real-time signals for leases and change notify Amazingly, it all seems to work. This is my 'Authentication Rewrite' version 1.01, mostly as submitted to samba-technical a few weeks ago. The idea here is to standardize the checking of user names and passwords, thereby ensuring that all authtentications pass the same standards. The interface currently implemented in as nt_status = check_password(user_info, server_info) where user_info contains (mostly) the authentication data, and server_info contains things like the user-id they got, and their resolved user name. The current ugliness with the way the structures are created will be killed the next revision, when they will be created and malloced by creator functions. This patch also includes the first implementation of NTLMv2 in HEAD, but which needs some more testing. We also add a hack to allow plaintext passwords to be compared with smbpasswd, not the system password database. Finally, this patch probably reintroduces the PAM accounts bug we had in 2.2.0, I'll fix that once this hits the tree. We also have a new 'net rpc changetrustpw' that can be called from a cron-job to regularly change the trust account password, for sites that run winbind but not smbd. With a little more work, we can kill rpc_client from smbd entirly! (It is mostly the domain auth stuff - which I can rework - and the spoolss stuff that sombody else will need to look over). The new msdfs implementation that uses symlinks to point to other servers. Very intuitive. Removed the dfs map parsing code and tdb maintenance code (files msdfs/parse_dfs_map.c & msdfs/msdfs_tdb.c), dfs map loading and unloading calls (param/loadparm.c smbd/server.c). Added code to display msdfs format symlinks as directories in a transact2_findfirst/findnext. (smbd/trans2.c) Modified msdfs/msdfs.c to use the msdfs symlinks to create dfs referrals. this is the bug change to using connection_struct* instead of cnum. Connections[] is now a local array in server.c I might have broken something with this change. In particular the oplock code is suspect and some .dll files aren't being oplocked when I expected them to be. I'll look at it after I've got some sleep. OK. Smbpasswd -j is DEAD. This moves the rest of the functionality into the 'net rpc join' code. Futhermore, this moves that entire area over to the libsmb codebase, rather than the crufty old rpc_client stuff. I have also fixed up the smbpasswd -a -m bug in the process. We also have a new 'net rpc changetrustpw' that can be called from a cron-job to regularly change the trust account password, for sites that run winbind but not smbd. With a little more work, we can kill rpc_client from smbd entirly! (It is mostly the domain auth stuff - which I can rework - and the spoolss stuff that sombody else will need to look over). Large commit which restructures the local password storage API. Also, no make install targets are defined for libsmbclient.so as yet, either. Would be good if people test on operating systems other than Linux. converted smbclient to use clientgen.c rather than clientutil.c I did this when I saw yet another bug report complaining about smbclient intermittently missing files. Rather than applying more patches to smbclient it was better to move to the more robust clientgen.c code. The conversion wasn't perfect, I probably lost some features of smbclient while doing it, but at least smbclient should be consistent now. It if fails it should _always_ fail rather than giving people the false impression of a reliable utility. the tar stuff seems to work, but hasn't had much testing as I never use it myself. I'm sure someone will find bugs in my conversion of smbtar.c. It was quite tricky as it did a lot of its own SMB calls. It now uses clientgen.c exclusively. smbclient is still quite messy, but at least it doesn't build its own SMB packets. I haven't touched smbmount as I never use it. This kills off the offending code in smbpasswd -j -Uab%c In the process we have changed from unsing compelatly random passwords to random, 15 char ascii strings. While this does produce a decrese in entropy, it is still vastly greater than we need, considering the application. In the meantime this allows us to actually *type* the machine account password duruign debugging. Fix for a problem with the new messaging system. If a sender is using the messaging system as a notification mechanism, and the speed of notification greatly exceeds the speed of message recovery, then you get a massively (>75Mb) growing tdb. If the message is a simple notification, then the message is static, and you only need one of them in transit to a target process at any one time. This patch adds a BOOL "allow_duplicates" to the message_send_XX primitives. If set to False, then before sending a message the sender checks the existing message queue for a target pid for a duplicate of this message, and doesn't add to it if one already exists. first pass at the database code for Samba. This also includes a test suite and a very simple tool for manuipulating the databases. the main code is in tdb/tdb.c and includes both mmap and file based IO. All databases auto-expand and allow multiple simultaneous writers. the next step is using this new capability in lots of places in Samba where we have existing ad-hoc databases (This used to be commit c89d29cc5e3b6d568928acace01144059f1668b3)

Fix for a problem with the new messaging system. If a sender is using the messaging system as a notification mechanism, and the speed of notification greatly exceeds the speed of message recovery, then you get a massively (>75Mb) growing tdb. If the message is a simple notification, then the message is static, and you only need one of them in transit to a target process at any one time. This patch adds a BOOL "allow_duplicates" to the message_send_XX primitives. If set to False, then before sending a message the sender checks the existing message queue for a target pid for a duplicate of this message, and doesn't add to it if one already exists. added a nasty lock testing program it opens 2 connections to each of 2 servers, and opens 2 fnums on the same file on each connection (a total of 8 file descriptors) then it does random lock/unlock/reopen requests in a 100 byte range on the file and compares the results from the 2 servers. strangely enough, NT fails this test against itself right now - I'm still trying to figure that out. Add basic "make check" and "make installcheck" targets, using the Satyr framework from the buildfarm. This will eventually be copied into the Samba source tree, but it is not yet. the first independent msrpc daemon - lsarpcd. one horrible cut / paste job from smbd, plus a code split of shared components between the two. the job is not _yet_ complete, as i need to be able to do a become_user() call for security reasons. i picked lsarpcd first because you don't _need_ security on it (microsoft botched so badly on this one, it's not real. at least they fixed this in nt5 with restrictanonymous=0x2). fixing this involves sending the current smb and unix credentials down the unix pipe so that the daemon it eventually goes to can pick them up at the other end. i can't believe this all worked!!! Fix for a problem with the new messaging system. If a sender is using the messaging system as a notification mechanism, and the speed of notification greatly exceeds the speed of message recovery, then you get a massively (>75Mb) growing tdb. If the message is a simple notification, then the message is static, and you only need one of them in transit to a target process at any one time. This patch adds a BOOL "allow_duplicates" to the message_send_XX primitives. If set to False, then before sending a message the sender checks the existing message queue for a target pid for a duplicate of this message, and doesn't add to it if one already exists. added a nasty lock testing program it opens 2 connections to each of 2 servers, and opens 2 fnums on the same file on each connection (a total of 8 file descriptors) then it does random lock/unlock/reopen requests in a 100 byte range on the file and compares the results from the 2 servers. strangely enough, NT fails this test against itself right now - I'm still trying to figure that out. First pass at the libsmbclient code ... This code handles the basic stuff and compiles and links under Linux, but I do not know about any other operating systems. Now onto directory listing routines, including those that list workgroups, servers, etc. Nothing is built automatically yet, you have to make client/testsmbc to build the library and test program. Also, no make install targets are defined for libsmbclient.so as yet, either. Would be good if people test on operating systems other than Linux. OK I think this does what everyone wants with the .headers.stamp it gets removed on a make clean it gets created on a make headers (if it doesn't already exist) This makes it so I only rebuild everthing once after a make clean and also so nothing gets rebuilt after jfm does a make headers (proto) (This used to be commit bc918bce104954b39bd54cab3149a0f4573feb5f)

Add the ability to display Samba's build options with smbd -b and as a level 4 DEBUG(). Also included are details like build date/time, location and compiler. This should get most of the options we set, except those that don't affect smbd, like WITH_PAM_SMBPASSWD or WITH_WINBINDD. This work due to Vance Lankhaar <vlankhaar@hotmail.com> Some work needs to be done to make it only rebuild when needed (ie smbd being rebuilt) but its in pretty good shape already. I also removed the maintainence mode from the Makefile. It was causing too much trouble. If someone really likes it they can keep a patch around to enable it themselves. I went through these are deleted many of them, making others static (finddead also reports functions that are used only in the local file). in doing this I have almost certainly deleted some useful code. I may have even prevented compilation with some compile options. I apologise. I decided it was better to get rid of this code now and add back the one or two functions that are needed than to keep all this baggage. So, if I have done a bit too much "destroying" then let me know. Keep the swearing to a minimum :) One bit I didn't do is the ubibt code. Chris, can you look at that? Heaps of unused functions there. some changes to the autoconf support - added config.cache to "make clean". We get two many bug reports from people builing on multiple architectures who don't remove config.cache between compiles. Hopefully a future version of autoconf will do this automatically - removed the targets that run autoconf and autoheader. There is far too great a risk of a enduser getting a error "autoheader not found" if the date on a file is changed. Samba developers will have to run autoconf and autoheader manually (as before) (This used to be commit 811fe3b174b9d7c57966491ab867637b82fff607)
