This gives you a name of a temporary file within the test case's tempdir.
Use it like this:
with self.mktemp() as filename:
self.check_run("samba-tool foo --output %s" % filename)
self.assertStringsEqual(open(filename).read(), expected)
and filename will flick out of existence when the with block ends.
This is based on an idea used in the traffic_runner tests, which will
soon be adapted to use this method.

If the backup command fails (i.e. throws an exception), we want the test
to fail. This makes it easier to mark tests as 'knownfail' (because we
can't knownfail test errors).
In theory, this should just involve updating run_cmd() to catch any
exceptions from the command and then call self.fail().
However, if the backup command fails, it can leave behind files in the
targetdir. Partly this is intentional, as these files may provide clues
to users as to why the command failed. However, in selftest, it causes
the TestCaseInTempDir._remove_tempdir() assertion to fire. Because this
assert actually gets run as part of the teardown, the assertion gets
treated as an error rather than a failure (and so we can't knownfail the
backup tests). To get around this, we remove any files in the tempdir
prior to calling self.fail().

Several tests hang all the objects they create off a unique OU.
Having a common OU makes cleanup easier, and having a unique OU (i.e.
adding some randomness) helps protect against one-off test failures
(Replication between testenvs is happening in the background.
Occasionally, when a test finishes on one testenv and moves onto the
next testenv, that testenv may have received the replicated test
objects from the first testenv, but has not received their deletion
yet).
Rather than copy-n-pasting this code yet again, split it out into a
helper function.

New file compat.py will help with porting to Python 3. For now, it
contains only PY3 variable based on six.PY3 which simplifies
condition mentioned below.
The added `if not PY3` conditions enable us to bootstrap running
tests with Python 3 even if most modules are not ported yet.
The plan is to move modules outside this condition as they are ported.
The `PY3` condition is currently used only in tests and for
the samba._ldb module which is not ported yet and has a lot of
dependencies.
The other changes are related to differences between Python 2 and 3.
Python 2.6 introduced the `0o` prefix for octal literals as an
alternative to plain `0`. In Python 3, support for plain `0` is
dropped and octal literals have to start with `0o` prefix.
Python 2.6 introduced a clearer `except` syntax:
`except ExceptionType as target:` instead of
`except ExceptionType, target:`. In Python 3, the old syntax
is no longer allowed.
