The goal is to pass the raw protocol testsuite against s3 RPC server.
To do so we need to enable epmd and lsasd daemons, as the testsuite
connects to the endpoint mapper and lsa endpoints using NCACN_IP_TCP
and NCACN_NP transports.

The libsmbclient readdir tests are broken just for the unix extension
case. For example they assume our "map archive" behaviour. This will
have to be parameterized once unix extensions become better
implemented in libsmbclient

Add tests to check that the '-lock' files for the dns partitions as well as
the data files are linked when running
samba_dnsupgrade --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ
failure to create these links can cause corruption of the corresponding
data file.

ad_dc_default is currently an alias for ad_dc_ntvfs, so this is currently no
change in behaviour, but this is going to change.
As the ad_dc_ntvfs env specifies "ldap server require strong auth =
allow_sasl_over_tls" and this is needed for the test, we have to let the test
use the ad_dc_ntvfs env explicitly.

[MS-GPSB] 2.2 Message Syntax says that you have to write a BOM which I
didn't do up until this patch. UTF-16 as input encoding was marked much
higher up in the inheritance tree, which got overriden with the Python 3
fixes. I've now marked the encoding much more obviously for this file.

When a script is run with the wrong arguments, it should at least say
something like this:
Usage: samba-foo [OPTIONS]
For many samba scripts, especially without a server environment, having
no arguments is the wrong arguments.
Here we look for every executable file with '#![...]python[3]' on the
first line, and exclude certain files and directories that have excuses
to fail the test. For example, many selftest scripts are stream-oriented
and will hang forever waiting for stdin, which is not an error. Some
test modules are designed so they can be optionally run from the command
line, but this option is typically only used by the developer who is
writing them.

We run the tests again, trying to modify as a normal user rather than
Administrator.
It turns out that we do not always return the same error code as
Windows, but in all these tests both Windows and Samba always return
some kind of error (as you might hope).

This is needed because the name of the autobuild job and
the name of the selftest env end up in the socket path
for ncalrpc sockets.
The challenge is that (for example)
/memdisk/autobuild/fl/b2424063/samba-schemaupgrade/bin/ab/schemaupgrade_pair_dc/ncalrpc/np/protected_storage
does not fit in a struct sockaddr_un.

Currently schema info's revision field isn't incremented if relax
control is present. This is so that no increment is done during
provision, but we need the relax control in other situations where the
increment is desired. This patch adds a failing test to expose the

Testing max, min and negative values for indexed 32 and 64 bit types.
This has to be done in two different files because the 64 bit type is
LDB_SYNTAX_INTEGER which is implemented at the ldb level, while the 32
bit is added in the ldb-samba module. Schema syntax binding added for
ldb-samba.
We also need to make sure that full scans are not invoked for LMDB.

Old versions of 'samba-tool dbcheck' could reanimate
deleted objects, when running at the same time as the
tombstone garbage collection.
When the (deleted) parent of a deleted object
(with the DISALLOW_MOVE_ON_DELETE bit in systemFlags),
is removed before the object itself, dbcheck moved
it in the LostAndFound[Config] subtree of the partition
as an originating change. That means that the object
will be in tombstone state again for 180 days on the local
DC. And other DCs fail to replicate the object as
it's already removed completely there and the replication
only gives the name and lastKnownParent attributes, because
all other attributes should already be known to the other DC.

When a parent object is removed during the tombstone garbage collection
before a child object and samba-tool dbcheck runs at the same time, the
following can happen:
- If the object child had DISALLOW_MOVE_ON_DELETE in systemFlags,
samba-tool dbcheck moves the object under the LostAndFound[Config]
object (as an originating update!)
- The lastKnownParent attribute is removed (as an originating update!)
These originating updates cause the object to have an extended time
as tombstone. And these changes are replicated to other DCs,
which very likely already removed the object completely!
This means the destination DC of replication has no chance to handle
the object it gets from the source DC with just 2 attributes (name, lastKnownParent).
The destination logs something like:
No objectClass found in replPropertyMetaData

Instead of passing the CLIENT_IP to the auth_log tests, we can just
work out the source-IP that the client will use from its smb.conf file.
This only works for auth_log_pass_change, but not auth_log.py - the
latter still needs to be run on the :local testenv for other reasons, so
it doesn't use the client.conf. However, we can still update the base
code to use the client.conf IP, as auth_log.py overrides
self.remoteAddress anyway.
The main advantage of this change is it avoids having hardcoded IP
addresses in the selftest framework.

The auth-logging tests are an odd combination of server and client
behaviour. On the one hand we want a IRPC connection to see the auth
events being logged on the server. On the other hand, we want the auth
events to appear to be happening on a client. Currently we hardcode in
the use of a SOCKET_WRAPPER interface to make this happen.
We can avoid this explicit socket wrapper usage by using the server
smb.conf instead in the one place we actually want to act like the
server (creating the IRPC connection). Then we can switch from using
the 'ad_dc*:local' testenvs to use 'ad_dc*', in order to act like a
client by default. The SERVERCONFFILE environment variable has already
been added for the few cases where a test needs explicit access to the
server's smb.conf.
However, for samba.tests.auth_log, the samlogon test cases are still
reliant on being run on the :local testenv, and so we can't switch them
over just yet. This is because the samlogon is using the DC's machine
creds underneath, which will fail on the non-local testenv. We could
create separate machine creds for the client and use those, but this is
a non-trivial rework of the test code.

These tests all use the ncalrpc connection, so they're always testing a
connection that's local to the server-side. Therefore passing in the
CLIENT_IP and SOCKET_WRAPPER_DEFAULT_IFACE variables (in order to try to
simulate a client connecting) is unnecessary.

Each DC used in a DRS test has its own '<testenv>_SERVER' environment
variable, e.g. VAMPIRE_DC_SERVER. These variables are only used by
test.py for DRS, but they're not actually needed.
The $SERVER environment variable holds the same information, so we can
just use this in test.py instead.

It seems like these extra options were just copy-n-pasted from another
test. The process_limits test doesn't actually try to use these env
variables at all. All the test is doing is creating LDAP connections to
the DC. The SOCKET_WRAPPER_DEFAULT_IFACE may have perhaps been needed,
but we can avoid this by dropping ':local' from the testenv and running
the test as a "client" instead.

Run the GPO tests against the backup/restore testenvs.
Because the backup/restore preserves the NTACLs of the sysvol files,
running the GPO tests against the backup testenvs is a good sanity-
check. If fact it highlights that there is currently a problem with
restoring the GPO files - this shows up in 'samba-tool gpo aclcheck',
but we never noticed it until now.
NTACL backup works slightly different for offline backups, and rename
backups end up with more sysvol files, so run the tests against both
these envs.

Sanity-check that the SMBv2 connection actually works by running it
against a testenv with SMBv1 disabled.
I've dropped 'local' from the ad_dc target, because it shouldn't be
needed. We're trying to test the client-side SMB connection, so running
it without 'local' is probably a better test.

commit: 34ca15fb04 changed the
test so embedded NULLs were avoided when python3 was used.
This was due to the fact the string comparison function
'locale.strcoll' cannot handle embedded NULLs. This commit
a) Restores the test data using embedded NULLs which was
not used depending on the python runtime version
b) Removes the problematic calculation of expected sorting order
and instead uses sort order data stored in files.

Running the backup tests against the restoredc highlights that the
backup online/rename commands don't work if SMBv1 is disabled. Note that
the offline commands still work because they don't rely on an SMB
connection to the server.
(Note that running the backup tests against the restoredc is probably a
good idea anyway, to prove that there's no limit to the number of times
you can restore a domain from backup, i.e. we support more than just a
one-off restore).

smbclient4 doesn't support SMBv2 connections, i.e. it won't work against
a DC with SMBv1 disabled. The smoke-test here is that the DC accepts
the connection, so we don't really care what SMB tool we use to connect.

When creating a new user and specifying the local file path of the
sam.ldb DB, it's possible to create an account that you can't actually
login with.

The fromServer attribute is slightly unique, in that it's a DN (similar
to a one-way link), but it is also a mandatory attribute.
Currently, if fromServer gets a bad value (i.e. a dead server that has
been expunged), the DSDB rejects any attempts to modify the associated
nTDSConnection object (regardless of whether or not you're actually
changing the fromServer attribute).
This patch adds a test-case that demonstrates how the DB can get into
such a state.

Recent changes around restoring a domain that lacked
Default-First-Site-Name highlighted a problem. Normally when you join a
DC to a domain, samba-tool works out the correct site to use
automatically. However, if the join uses '--server' to select a DC, then
this doesn't work. It defaults back to Default-First-Site-Name, and the
join command fails if this site doesn't exist.
All the testenvs had Default-First-Site-Name present, so this was never
tested. Now the backupfromdc no longer has a Default-First-Site-Name
site, so running a simple join against that DC fails, highlighting the
problem.

There are 2 different PSO tests:
- make test TESTS=ldap.password_settings
- make test TESTS=samba_tool.passwordsettings
There's also another test that's completely unrelated to PSOs:
- make test TESTS=blackbox.password_settings
This patch renames ldap.password_settings --> ldap.passwordsettings.
This means 'make test TESTS=passwordsettings' will run both PSO tests,
but not the unrelated blackbox test.

Adds tests that assert that a confidential attribute cannot be guessed
by an unprivileged user through wildcard DB searches.
The tests basically consist of a set of DB searches/assertions that
get run for:
- basic searches against a confidential attribute
- confidential attributes that get overridden by giving access to the
user via an ACE (run against a variety of ACEs)
- protecting a non-confidential attribute via an ACL that denies read-
access (run against a variety of ACEs)
- querying confidential attributes via the dirsync controls
These tests all pass when run against a Windows Dc and all fail against
a Samba DC.

This is a selftest target built from a restored offline backup.
Other backup routines are modified to remove the assumption that every backup
requires server and credentials arguments, since offline backup doesn't
want them. Also, prepare_dc_testenv now returns the generated ctx so we can
run or re-run routines that require it later.

One of the use-cases for the domain rename tool is to produce a lab
domain that can be used for pre-production testing of Samba.
Basically this involves taking a backup rename with --no-secrets (which
scrubs any sensitive info), and then restoring it.
This patch adds a testenv that mimics how a user would go about creating
a lab-domain. We run the same tests that we run against the restore and
rename testenvs.
Note that the rpc.echo tests for the testallowed and testdenied users
fail, because we don't backup the secrets for these users. So these
tests failing proves that the lab-DC testenv is correct.

Add a new testenv that's similar to the existing restoredc, except we
use 'backup rename' to rename the domain as we back it up.
Restoring this backup then proves that a valid DC can be started from a
renamed backup.
Run the same sub-set of RESTOREDC tests to prove that the new testenv is
sound.

dbcheck would fail to fix up attributes where the extended DN's GUID is
correct, but the DN itself is incorrect. The code failed attempting to
remove the old/incorrect DN, e.g.

Failed to fix old DN string on attribute objectCategory : (16,
"attribute 'objectCategory': no matching attribute value while deleting
attribute on 'CN=alice,CN=Users,DC=samba,DC=example,DC=com'")
The problem was the LDB message specified the value to delete with its
full DN, including the GUID. The LDB code then helpfully corrected this
value on the way through, so that the DN got updated to reflect the
correct DN (i.e. 'DC=example,DC=com') of the object matching that GUID,
rather than the incorrect DN (i.e. 'DC=bad,DC=com') that we were trying
to remove. Because the requested value and the existing DB value didn't
match, the operation failed.
We can avoid this problem by passing down just the DN (not the extended
DN) of the value we want to delete. Without the GUID portion of the DN,
the LDB code will no longer try to correct it on the way through, and
the dbcheck operation will succeed.

Add a simple test to show that the new non-global LoadParm behaviour
works, i.e.
- by default all LoadParm objects are linked to the same underlying
object
- using a non-global LoadParm creates a separate underlying object.

We don't want users to take a backup file, and then simply untar it and
run Samba (Several modifications to the DB need to be made as part of
the restore process, so users should always run the 'backup restore'
command).
To enforce this, prime_ldb_databases() now refuses to start Samba if the
backupDate marker is present in the DB. This patch adds a test-case that
proves this basic behaviour works.

Changes are logged in human readable and if samba has been built with
JANSSON support in JSON format.

Schema management in active directory is complex and dangerous. Having
a tool that safely wraps administrative tasks as well as allowing query

With samba-tool we should expose ways to easily administer and control
common configuration options. This adds the base framework for modifying
forest settings, generally stored in cn=configuration partition.

I've added a test case for 'samba-tool domain passwordsettings set/show'
to prove I haven't broken it. It's behaviour shouldn't have changed, but
there was no test for it previously.
We'll extend these tests in the very near future, when we add samba-tool
support for managing PSOs.
The base samba_tool test's runsubcmd() only handled commands with
exactly one sub-command, i.e. it would handle the command 'samba-tool
domain passwordsettings' OK, but not 'samba-tool domain passwordsettings
set' (The command still seemed to run OK, but you wouldn't get the
output/err back correctly). A new runsublevelcmd() function now handles
a varying number of sub-commands.

a.k.a Fine-Grained Password Policies
These tests currently all run and pass gainst Windows, but fail against
Samba. (Actually, the permissions test case passes against Samba,
presumably because it's enforced by the Schema permissions).
Two helper classes have been added:
- PasswordSettings: creates a PSO object and tracks its values.
- TestUser: creates a user and tracks its password history
This allows other existing tests (e.g. password_lockout, password_hash)
to easily be extended to also cover PSOs.
Most test cases use assert_PSO_applied(), which asserts:
- the correct msDS-ResultantPSO attribute is returned
- the PSO's min-password-length, complexity, and password-history
settings are correctly enforced (this has been temporarily been hobbled
until the basic constructed-attribute support is working).

There are two cases we are interested in:
1) RODC receives two identical DNs which conflict
2) RODC receives a rename to a DN which already exists
Currently these issues are ignored, but the UDV and HWM are being
updated, leading to objects/updates being skipped.

To work out what is happening in a replication graph, it is sometimes
helpful to use visualisations. We introduce a samba-tool subcommand to
write Graphviz dot output and generate text-based heatmaps of the
distance in hops between DCs.
There are two subcommands, two graphical modes, and (roughly) two modes of
operation with respect to the location of authority.
`samba-tool visualize ntdsconn` looks at NTDS Connections.
`samba-tool visualize reps` looks at repsTo and repsFrom objects.
In '--distance' mode (default), the distances between DCs are shown in
a matrix in the terminal. With '--color=yes', this is depicted as a
heatmap. With '--utf8' it is a lttle prettier.
In '--dot' mode, Graphviz dot output is generated. When viewed using
dot or xdot, this shows the network as a graph with DCs as vertices
and connections edges. Certain types of degenerate edges are shown in
different colours or line-styles.
Normally samba-tool talks to one database; with the '-r' (a.k.a.
'--talk-to-remote') option attempts are made to contact all the DCs
known to the first database. This is necessary to get sensible results
from `samba-tool visualize reps` because the repsFrom/To objects are
not replicated, and it can reveal replication issues in other modes.

I guess that's what we try to test here, as 'use spnego' was only evaluated
on in the smb server part.
The basically tests the 'raw NTLMv2 auth' option, we set it to yes on
some environments, but keep a knownfail for the ad_member.

`samba-tool [COMMAND] --help` will list sub-commands of COMMAND
(or top-level commands if COMMAND is omitted). This ensures that
`samba-tool COMMAND SUBCOMMAND --help` works for all the commands
found in the help tree.

Encrypt the samba secret attributes on disk. This is intended to
mitigate the inadvertent disclosure of the sam.ldb file, and to mitigate
memory read attacks.
Currently the key file is stored in the same directory as sam.ldb but
this could be changed at a later date to use an HSM or similar mechanism
to protect the key.
Data is encrypted with AES 128 GCM. The encryption uses gnutls where
available and if it supports AES 128 GCM AEAD modes, otherwise nettle is
used.
