This ensures that before the KDC starts to process the entry
we check if it is expired and rotate it. As an account with
UF_SMARTCARD_REQUIRED simply can not expire unless
msDS-ExpirePasswordsOnSmartCardOnlyAccounts is set and
the Domain Functional Level is >= 2016 we do not need
to do configuration checks here.

both implementations then follow the time in each 'struct

This will allow the "samba-tool domain exportkeytab" code to do special gMSA

using a specific DB or remote server for gMSA passwords.

When authentication policies are implemented, we shall need to fetch
SIDs (and claims) from the PACs of users and devices repeatedly — not
just when first looking up a user, but every time a policy needs to be
evaluated.
This will likely be more efficient if we can cache this information,
removing the need to derive it more than once.

All that uses the FAST cookie is the gss-preauth authentication
mechanism, which is untested in Samba, and disabled by default.
Disabling the FAST cookie code (and sending a dummy string instead)
relieves us of the maintenance and testing burden of this untested code.

This was used in only 2 places, db-glue.c and the lsa server.
In db-glue.c it is awkward though, as it forces to use an unconvenient lsa
structure and conversions from time_t to nt_time only to have nt_times
converted back to time_t for actual use. This is silly.
Also the kdc-policy file was a single funciton library, that's just ridiculous.
The loadparm helper is all we need to keep the values consistent, and if we
ever end up doing something with group policies we will care about it when it's
the time. the code would have to change quite a lot anyway.

be extended to import existing MIT or Heimdal keys into a Samba4 AD

To use, add to your krb5.conf
[kdc]
database = {

}
or
[kdc]
database = {
dbname = samba4:/usr/local/samba/etc/smb.conf
