d5d0e71279 CVE-2023-0614 ldb: Prevent disclosure of confidential attributes
Add a hook, acl_redact_msg_for_filter(), in the aclread module, that
marks inaccessible any message elements used by an LDAP search filter
that the user has no right to access. Make the various ldb_match_*()
functions check whether message elements are accessible, and refuse to
match any that are not. Remaining message elements, not mentioned in the
search filter, are checked in aclread_callback(), and any inaccessible
elements are removed at this point.

Certain attributes, namely objectClass, distinguishedName, name, and
objectGUID, are always present, and hence the presence of said
attributes is always allowed to be checked in a search filter. This
corresponds with the behaviour of Windows.

Further, we unconditionally allow the attributes isDeleted and
isRecycled in a check for presence or equality. Windows is not known to
make this special exception, but it seems mostly harmless, and should
mitigate the performance impact on searches made by the show_deleted
module.

As a result of all these changes, our behaviour regarding confidential
attributes happens to match Windows more closely. For the test in
confidential_attr.py, we can now model our attribute handling with
DC_MODE_RETURN_ALL, which corresponds to the behaviour exhibited by
Windows.

f154fad3c1 CVE-2023-0614 s4:dsdb/extended_dn_in: Don't modify a search tree we don't own
In extended_dn_fix_filter() we had:

    req->op.search.tree = ldb_parse_tree_copy_shallow(req, req->op.search.tree);

which overwrote the parse tree on an existing ldb request with a fixed
up tree. This became a problem if a module performed another search with
that same request structure, as extended_dn_in would try to fix up the
already-modified tree for a second time. The fixed-up tree element now
having an extended DN, it would fall foul of the ldb_dn_match_allowed()
check in extended_dn_filter_callback(), and be replaced with an
ALWAYS_FALSE match rule. In practice this meant that <GUID={}> searches
would only work for one search in an ldb request, and fail for
subsequent ones.

Fix this by creating a new request with the modified tree, and leaving
the original request unmodified.

bfc33b47bb dsdb: Avoid ERROR(ldb): uncaught exception - Deleted target CN=NTDS Settings... in join
"samba-tool domain join" uses the replication API in a strange way, perhaps no longer
required, except that we often still have folks upgrading from very old Samba versions.

When deferring the writing out to the DB of link replication to the very end, there
is a greater opportunity for the deletion of an object to have been sent with the
other objects, and have the link applied later.

This tells the repl_meta_data code to behave as if GET_TGT had been sent at the
time the link was returned, allowing a link to a deleted object to be silently
discarded.

08187833fe CVE-2020-25720: s4-acl: Change behavior of Create Children check
Up to now, the rights to modify an attribute were not checked during an LDAP
add operation. This means that even if a user has no right to modify
an attribute, they can still specify any value during object creation,
and the validated writes were not checked.
This patch changes this behavior. During an add operation,
a security descriptor is created that does not include the one provided by the
user, and is used to verify that the user has the right to modify the supplied attributes.
Exception is made for an object's mandatory attributes, and if the user has Write DACL right,
further checks are skipped.

e1c52ac05a CVE-2022-32743 dsdb/modules/acl: Allow simultaneous sAMAccountName, dNSHostName, and servicePrincipalName change
If the message changes the sAMAccountName, we'll check dNSHostName and
servicePrincipalName values against the new value of sAMAccountName,
rather than the account's current value. Similarly, if the message
changes the dNSHostName, we'll check servicePrincipalName values against
the new dNSHostName. This allows setting more than one of these
attributes simultaneously with validated write rights.

We now pass 'struct ldb_val' to acl_validate_spn_value() instead of
simple strings. Previously, we were relying on the data inside 'struct
ldb_val' having a terminating zero byte, even though this is not
guaranteed.

4a31c48057 CVE-2022-32745 s4/dsdb/util: Use correct value for loop count limit
Currently, we can crash the server by sending a large number of values
of a specific attribute (such as sAMAccountName) spread across a few
message elements. If val_count is larger than the total number of
elements, we get an access beyond the elements array.

Similarly, we can include unrelated message elements prior to the
message elements of the attribute in question, so that not all of the
attribute's values are copied into the returned elements values array.
This can cause the server to access uninitialised data, likely resulting
in a crash or unexpected behaviour.

bd1e667a62 s4:dsdb/descriptor: sort descriptor_changes tree based
For the hot code path, e.g. the commit after the initial replication,
we typically have one descriptor_changes for each object in the
database.

It means that we most likely have 5 naming contexts/partitions.
Except of their head/root object have a valid parent_guid,
so can move all of them into the tree structure.

Now we start the processing at the partition root objects,
which means that we also process all child objects in
the same run. While processing these objects we are most
likely able to mark their related descriptor_changes structure
as done removing it from the hierarchy.

With the 22000 object domain it reduces the time spend in
the commit stage from 3m 20s down to 2m 50s.

b812ade416 s4:dsdb/descriptor: skip duplicates in descriptor_extended_sec_desc_propagation()
During replication we may need to fallback to using DRS_GET_TGT,
which means that we'll get a lot of objects more than once,
the most important one it the partition root object.

It means we'll also do the security descriptor propagation more than
once for these objects, which is extrememly costly for the partition
root objects and other objects near the root.

I analyzed a domain where we collected ~ 50000 descriptor_changes
registrations for the initial replication of ~ 22000 objects
in the database.
For that domain we spend ~ 4 hours for the security descriptor
propagation in descriptor_prepare_commit(), while the replication
itself was finished in less than 2 minutes.

With this change we reduce the number of registered/processed
descriptor_changes down to ~ 22000, while is reduces the time

This makes it clearer that the purpose of this control is to indicate that the password

subject to ACLs etc.

This essentially reverts bbb9dc806e

This returns the API for password changes via (eg) kpasswd to the

This avoids the issues that were attempted to be addressed between

The purpose of this change is to move away from the NT hash (unicodePwd) being

8abf90a3ef CVE-2020-25722 s4/dsdb modules: add dsdb_get_expected_new_values()
This function collects a superset of all the new values for the specified
attribute that could result from an ldb add or modify message.

In most cases -- where there is a single add or modify -- the exact set
of added values is returned, and this is done reasonably efficiently
using the existing element. Where it gets complicated is when there are
multiple elements for the same attribute in a message. Anything added
before a replace or delete will be included in these results but may not
end up in the database if the message runs its course. Examples:

   sequence result
1. ADD the element is returned (exact)
2. REPLACE the element is returned (exact)
3. ADD, ADD both elements are concatenated together (exact)
4. ADD, REPLACE both elements are concatenated together (superset)
5. REPLACE, ADD both elements are concatenated together (exact)
6. ADD, DEL, ADD adds are concatenated together (superset)
7. REPLACE, REPLACE both concatenated (superset)
8. DEL, ADD last element is returned (exact)

Why this? In the past we have treated dsdb_get_single_valued_attr() as if
it returned the complete set of possible database changes, when in fact it
only returned the last non-delete. That is, it could have missed values
in examples 3-7 above.

Not only should it not be possible to add a servicePrincipalName that
is already present in the domain, it should not be possible to add one
that is implied by an entry in sPNMappings, unless the user is adding
an alias to another SPN and has rights to alter that one.

For example, with the default sPNMappings, cifs/ is an alias pointing to
host/, meaning if there is no cifs/example.com SPN, the host/example.com
one will be used instead. A user can add the cifs/example.com SPN only
if they can also change the host/example.com one (because adding the
cifs/ effectively changes the host/). The reverse is refused in all cases,
unless they happen to be on the same object. That is, if there is a
cifs/example.com SPN, there is no way to add host/example.com elsewhere.

45a4a198b8 CVE-2020-25722 s4/dsdb/samldb: check for clashes in UPNs/samaccountnames
We already know duplicate sAMAccountNames and UserPrincipalNames are bad,
but we also have to check against the values these imply in each other.

For example, imagine users with SAM account names "Alice" and "Bob" in
the realm "example.com". If they do not have explicit UPNs, by the logic
of MS-ADTS 5.1.1.1.1 they use the implict UPNs "alice@example.com" and
"bob@example.com", respectively. If Bob's UPN gets set to
"alice@example.com", it will clash with Alice's implicit one.

Therefore we refuse to allow a UPN that implies an existing SAM account
name and vice versa.

a00c525a4e CVE-2020-25722 dsdb: Prohibit mismatch between UF_ account types and objectclass.
There are a lot of knownfail entries added with this commit. These
all need to be addressed and removed in subsequent commits which
will restructure the tests to pass within this new reality.

The restriction is not applied to users with administrator rights,
as this breaks a lot of tests and provides no security benefit.

There are a lot of knownfail entries added with this commit. These
all need to be addressed and removed in subsequent commits which
will restructure the tests to pass within this new reality.

This default applies even to users with administrator rights,
as changing the default based on permissions would break

f478aecc45 CVE-2020-25722 dsdb: Restrict the setting of privileged attributes during LDAP add/modify
The remaining failures in the priv_attrs (not the strict one) test are
due to missing objectclass constraints on the administrator which should
be addressed, but are not a security issue.

A better test for confirming constraints between objectclass and
userAccountControl UF_NORMAL_ACCONT/UF_WORKSTATION_TRUST values would
be user_account_control.py.

b6d60e8f4d samldb: Address birthday paradox adding an RODC
It is possible that the randomly chosen RODC number will be one
that is already in use. The samldb_krbtgtnumber_available()
function was meant to prevent that, but due to a typo did not.

There is no other race here as the whole thing is inside a transaction,
and we have duplicate protection on samAccountName, so the failure
looked like this:

This made Python 2's print behave like Python 3's print().

In some cases, where we had:

this will have the side effect of making the intended module documentation
work as the actual module documentation (i.e. becoming __doc__), because
