Martin Schwenke d87041d896 ctdb-common: Improve error handling 
Factor out a failure label, which will get more use in subsequent
commits, and only set private_data when success is certain.

This is the release version of CTDB, a clustered implementation of TDB
database used by Samba and other projects to store temporary data.
