We have all information in the binding, we don't need those globals. In case you're looking for tests: We have the combinations in our blackbox.rpcclient test. They don't actually check whether we really do the transport wrapping that is announced, some manual wireshark inspection showed that this does what it's supposed to do. And it took a quite bit of tweaking in binding_get_auth_info() to make this survive "make test TESTS=blackbox.rpcclient".
