Contrary to my quick ld(1) interpretation, -rpath option does not really adjust search path directories. $ gcc ldtest.c -Wl,-rpath,/usr/lib/gcj-4.1 -ljvm /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ljvm $ gcc ldtest.c -L/usr/lib/gcj-4.1 -ljvm $ Also note that checking for empty pkg-config output is not realiable: $ echo "^$(pkg-config --libs-only-l /usr/share/pkgconfig/gtk-doc.pc)\$" ^ $ $ |
