The core mask display is wrong in some cases. This is showing more
cpus than the mask has. This is because mask is 64 bit but it used
with BIT() macro to get the presence of CPU which doesn't support
unsigned long long. Added a new macro for BIT_ULL and use that
to get the presence of a CPU.
Signed-off-by: Srinivas Pandruvada <srinivas.pandruvada@linux.intel.com>
Increase CPU count so that more than 64 is supported in one request.
For example:
sudo ./intel-speed-select -d --cpu 0-66 core-power assoc -clos 0
The above command stops at 63. With this change, it can support more
CPU numbers from 0-255.

The 'intel-speed-select -f json perf-profile get-lock-status' command
outputs the package, die, and cpu data as separate fields.
ex)
"package-0": {
"die-0": {
"cpu-0": {
Commit 74062363f8 ("tools/power/x86/intel-speed-select: Avoid duplicate Package strings for json") prettied this output so that it is a single line for
some json output commands and the same should be done for other commands.
Output package, die, and cpu info in a single line when using json output.

turbo-freq enable, requires clos enable. So this is a two step process,
when "-a" option is used. This is causing confusion to users. So enable
clos by default for turbo-freq enable.

On CLX-N, the perf-profile-level's output is terminated before the
speed-select-base-freq-properties are output which results in a corrupt
json file.
Adjust the output of speed-select-base-freq-properties by one on CLX-N.

On CLX-N the perf-profile output is missing the package, die, and cpu
output. On CLX-N the pkg_dev struct will never be evaluated by the core
code so pkg_dev.processed is always 0 and the package, die, and cpu
information is never output.
Set the pkg_dev.processed flag to 1 for CLX-N processors.

When turbo-freq or base-freq feature is not supported, the enable will
fail. So first check support status and print error.

When turbo-freq is enabled, we can't disable core-power. Currently
it prints debug message to warn. Change this to error message.
While here remove "\n" from calls to isst_display_error_info_message(),
as it will be added again during actual print.

The single user could have called freeze_secondary_cpus() directly.
Since this function was a source of confusion, remove it as it's
just a pointless wrapper.
While at it, rename enable_nonboot_cpus() to thaw_secondary_cpus() to
preserve the naming symmetry.
Done automatically via:
git grep -l enable_nonboot_cpus | xargs sed -i 's/enable_nonboot_cpus/thaw_secondary_cpus/g'

Here are 3 SPDX patches for 5.7-rc1.
One fixes up the SPDX tag for a single driver, while the other two go
through the tree and add SPDX tags for all of the .gitignore files as
needed.
Nothing too complex, but you will get a merge conflict with your current
tree, that should be trivial to handle (one file modified by two things,
one file deleted.)
All 3 of these have been in linux-next for a while, with no reported
issues other than the merge conflict.

For platforms where multiple packages/die, this makes "Package-" key
duplicate. To make unique, add die and cpu id to key name.
So "Package-0" key name will change to "Package-0-die-x:cpu-x".
For example:
$sudo ./intel-speed-select -f json perf-profile info

was there to print package, die and CPU information. Replace all that
code with a call to print_package_info().

Treat a case when mailbox/mmio command can't be handled by the kernel
drivers when the module is removed or send a command which no driver can
handle. In this case ENOTTY result is returned, so print error.
Also when the isst_if_mmio module is removed, we can't send CLOS message
messages via Mailbox on non SKX based platforms. When this module is
removed, isst_platform_info.mmio_supported is set to 0. So it can't be
used as a condition to send via mailbox. Here replace check for Skylake

Once the CPU is offline, the topology information (core-id, package-id,
die-id) is not accessible via sysfs. So when user selects a config level
more than base config 0 and offlined CPUs to match the config level,
to return to base config he has to manually online CPUs before. Without
this CPUs information mapping from Punit CPU numbering will lot work
as it needs atlest package id for each CPU.
To avoid this additional steps store the topology information in a file
, which is created on the very first run after boot. Since system boots
in base config and all CPUs are online, we can get information about
every CPU.
Once any of the APIs like get_physical_package_id(),
get_physical_core_id() or get_physical_die_id() fails to read from
sysfs, read from the stored mapping file.
This mapping file is stored in /tmp file system. so on every boot
it is recreated to make sure that any new CPUs are added to the
system before boot are taken into account.
But don't use the stored physical device id when trying to get
information for CPU to send message in for_each_online_package_in_set().
Here use the real value from syfs and in case fails try the next CPU.

Currently /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/topology/thread_siblings is used to
get the max CPU count. But when CPU0 is offline, then this file will be
absent.
So add processing so that we can get count from any first CPU in the
system. which is online.

Instead of displaying 0 and 1 for enable status, display "disabled"
and "enabled" respectively.
Similarly for priority type, display "ordered or proportional" instead
of 0 and 1.
An example display:
$intel-speed-select -c 1 core-power info

status. This will help why clos enable status didn't give desired

$intel-speed-select core-power info
Intel(R) Speed Select Technology
..
package-0
die-0
cpu-0
core-power
support-status:supported
enable-status:enabled
clos-enable-status:1
priority-type:0

status of the core-power feature and "clos-enable-status", shows the
status of the clos.

There are two instances of “speed-select-turbo-freq” underneath
“perf-profile-level-0” for each package. When we load the output into

Result is that we can only access:

The turbo-freq enable with auto mode, prints result for the last possible
CPU, which is not correct when either CPU is not present or user wants
command to be limited to a single die/package. For example, in the
below command user wants to limit to die/package 0, but the
"turbo-freq --auto" result is displayed using the other package.
$ sudo intel-speed-select -c 0 turbo-freq enable -a
Intel(R) Speed Select Technology
package-0
die-0
cpu-0
turbo-freq
enable:success
package--1
die-0
cpu-31
turbo-freq --auto
enable:success
Since we do have to traverse all CPUs, don't display CPU info for
"turbo-freq --auto", as we already displayed the result for
turbo-freq enable with the CPU information.
With the fix, the same command results in:
$ sudo intel-speed-select -c 0 turbo-freq enable -a
Intel(R) Speed Select Technology
package-0
die-0
cpu-0
turbo-freq
enable:success
turbo-freq --auto

Commit ae2917093f ("tools/power/cpupower: Display boost frequency
separately") modified the library function:
struct cpufreq_available_frequencies
*cpufreq_get_available_frequencies(unsigned int cpu)
to
struct cpufreq_frequencies
*cpufreq_get_frequencies(const char *type, unsigned int cpu)
This patch recovers the old API and implements the new functionality
in a newly introduce method:
struct cpufreq_boost_frequencies
*cpufreq_get_available_frequencies(unsigned int cpu)
This one should get merged into stable kernels back to 5.0 when
the above had been introduced.

Sync msr-index.h to pull in recent renames of the IA32_FEATURE_CONTROL
MSR definitions. Update KVM's VMX selftest and turbostat accordingly.
Keep the full name in turbostat's output to avoid breaking someone's
workflow, e.g. if a script is looking for the full name.
While using the renamed defines is by no means necessary, do the sync
now to avoid leaving a landmine that will get stepped on the next time
msr-index.h needs to be refreshed for some other reason.
No functional change intended.

It is possible that certain config levels are not available, even
if the max level includes the level. There can be missing levels in
some platforms. So ignore the level when called for information dump
for all levels and fail if specifically ask for the missing level.
Here the changes is to continue reading information about other levels
even if we fail to get information for the current level. But use the
"processed" flag to indicate the failure. When the "processed" flag is
not set, don't dump information about that level.

There are some platforms, where there limited support of Intel(R) SST
features. Here perf-profile has only one base configuration and limited
support of commands. But still has support for discovery of base-freq and
turbo-freq features. So it is important to show minimum features to use
base-freq and turbo-freq features.
Here the change are:
- When there is no support of CONFIG_TDP_GET_LEVELS_INFO, then instead
of treating this as fatal error, treat this with number of config levels
= 0, that means only base level 0 is present.
- There is no support of mail box commands to get base frequencies or
turbo frequencies. Here present base frequency by reading cpufreq
base freq and turbo frequency by reading MSR 0x1AD.

Scaling min frequency be different for high and low priority cores.

AMD Zen 2 introduces the RDPRU instruction which can be used to access some
processor registers which are typically only accessible in privilege level
0. ECX specifies the register to read and EDX:EAX will contain the value read.
ECX: 0 - Register MPERF
1 - Register APERF
This has the added advantage of not having to use the msr module, since the
userspace to kernel transitions which occur during each read_msr() might
cause APERF and MPERF to go out of sync.

The per_cpu_schedule flag is used to move the cpupower process to the cpu
on which we are looking to read the APERF/MPERF registers.
This prevents IPIs from being generated by read_msr()s as we are already
on the cpu of interest.
Ex: If cpupower is running on CPU 0 and we execute
read_msr(20, MSR_APERF, val) then,
read_msr(20, MSR_MPERF, val)
the msr module will generate an IPI from CPU 0 to CPU 20 to query
for the MSR_APERF and then the MSR_MPERF in separate IPIs.
This delay, caused by IPI latency, between reading the APERF and MPERF
registers may cause both of them to go out of sync.
The use of the per_cpu_schedule flag reduces the probability of this
from happening. It comes at the cost of a negligible increase in cpu
consumption caused by the migration of cpupower across each of the
cpus of the system.

The enable command always returns success, and the disable command always
returns failed because SST-BF cannot be enabled or disabled from the OS on
CascadeLake-N.
Enable command also have support for --auto|-a option, which sets cpufreq
scaling_min to max, so that the high priority base frequency can be the
required minimum for high priority cores. Disable command with -a/--auto
option reset the setting back to the min frequency.

CascadeLake-N only supports SST-BF and needs some of the perf-profile
commands, and the base-freq commands.
Add help functions, and create an empty command structures (the functions
will be implemented later in this patchset). Call these functions
when running on CascadeLake-N.

The current code structure has similar but separate command functions for
the enable and disable operations. This can be improved by adding an int
argument to the command function structure, and interpreting 1 as enable
and 0 as disable. This change results in the removal of the disable
command functions.

The turbo-freq feature is dependent on the core-power feature. If the
core-power feature is disabled while the turbo-freq feature is enabled,
this will break the turbo-freq feature. This is a firmware limitation,
where they can't return error under this scenario.
So when trying to disable core-power, make sure that the turbo-freq
feature is not enabled. If it enabled, return error if user is trying to
disable the core-power feature.

Introduce --auto|-a option to turbo-freq enable feature, so that it
does in one step for users who are OK by setting all passed target cores
as high priority and set in CLOS 0 and remaining in CLOS 3. In this way,
users don't have to take multiple steps to enable turbo-freq feature. For
users who want more fine grain control, they can always use core-power
feature to set custom CLOS configuration and assignment.
While here also print the error to output when clos configuration fails.
For example
intel-speed-select -c 0-4 turbo-freq enable --auto
The above command will enable turbo-freq and core-power feature. Also
mark CPU 0 to CPU 4 as high priority.

Introduce --auto|-a option to base-freq enable feature, so that it
does in one step for users who are OK by setting all cores with higher
base frequency to be set in CLOS 0 and remaining in CLOS 3. This option
also sets corresponding clos.min to CLOS 0 and CLOS3. In this way, users
don't have to take multiple steps to enable base-freq feature. For users
who want more fine grain control, they can always use core-power feature
to set custom CLOS configuration and assignment.
Also adjust cpufreq/scaling_min_freq for higher and lower priority cores.
For example user can use:
intel-speed-select base-freq enable --auto

commit "c016ae8f9fa04d361efc8629de49ad3af12b5262
"tools/power/x86/intel-speed-select: Output success/failed for command
output" introduced a regression in perf-profile outputs. With this
the result field is changed to string interpreting every non zero
value as errors. But these commands display on zero (>0) result.
For example before this commit the display was:
package-1
die-0
cpu-14
get-config-levels:4
Here the get-config-levels is interpreted as error and displayed
as error with the above commit:
package-1
die-0
cpu-14
get-config-levels:failed(error 4)
Fix this issue by not using isst_display_result() to display such results,
but define a new function which formats this data and prints.

In some case C1% will be wrong value, when platform doesn't have MSR for
C1 residency.
For example:
Core CPU CPU%c1
- - 100.00
0 0 100.00
0 2 100.00
1 1 100.00
1 3 100.00
But adding Busy% will fix this
Core CPU Busy% CPU%c1
- - 99.77 0.23
0 0 99.77 0.23
0 2 99.77 0.23
1 1 99.77 0.23
1 3 99.77 0.23
This issue can be reproduced on most of the recent systems including
Broadwell, Skylake and later.
This is because if we don't select Busy% or Avg_MHz or Bzy_MHz then
mperf value will not be read from MSR, so it will be 0. But this
is required for C1% calculation when MSR for C1 residency is not present.
Same is true for C3, C6 and C7 column selection.
So add another define DO_BIC_READ(), which doesn't depend on user
column selection and use for mperf, C3, C6 and C7 related counters.
So when there is no platform support for C1 residency counters,
we still read these counters, if the CPU has support and user selected
display of CPU%c1.

Turbostat works by taking a snapshot of counters, sleeping, taking another
snapshot, calculating deltas, and printing out the table.
The sleep time is controlled via -i option or by user sending a signal or a
character to stdin. In the latter case, turbostat always adds 1 ms
sleep before it reads the counters, in order to avoid larger imprecisions
in the results in prints.
While the 1 ms delay may be a good idea for a "dumb" user, it is a
problem for an "aware" user. I do thousands and thousands of measurements
over a short period of time (like 2ms), and turbostat unconditionally adds
a 1ms to my interval, so I cannot get what I really need.
This patch removes the unconditional 1ms sleep. This is an expert user
tool, after all, and non-experts will unlikely ever use it in the non-fixed
interval mode anyway, so I think it is OK to remove the 1ms delay.

Commit '47936f944e78 tools/power turbostat: fix printing on input' make
a valid fix, but it completely disabled piped stdin support, which is
a valuable use-case. Indeed, if stdin is a pipe, turbostat won't read
anything from it, so it becomes impossible to get turbostat output at
user-defined moments, instead of the regular intervals.
There is no reason why this should works for terminals, but not for
pipes. This patch improves the situation. Instead of ignoring pipes, we
read data from them but gracefully handle the EOF case.

Turbostat currently normalizes TSC and other values by dividing by an
interval. This interval is the delta between the start of one global
(all counters on all CPUs) sampling and the start of another. However,
this introduces a lot of jitter into the data.
In order to reduce jitter, the interval calculation should be based on
timestamps taken per thread and close to the start of the thread's
sampling.
Define a per thread time value to hold the delta between samples taken
on the thread.
Use the timestamp taken at the beginning of sampling to calculate the
delta.
Move the thread's beginning timestamp to after the CPU migration to
avoid jitter due to the migration.
Use the global time delta for the average time delta.

The -w argument in x86_energy_perf_policy currently triggers an
unconditional segfault.
This is because the argument string reads: "+a:c:dD:E:e:f:m:M:rt:u:vw" and
yet the argument handler expects an argument.
When parse_optarg_string is called with a null argument, we then proceed to
crash in strncmp, not horribly friendly.
The man page describes -w as taking an argument, the long form
(--hwp-window) is correctly marked as taking a required argument, and the
code expects it.
As such, this patch simply marks the short form (-w) as requiring an
argument.

x86_energy_perf_policy first uses __get_cpuid() to check the maximum
CPUID level and exits if it is too low. It then assumes that later
calls will succeed (which I think is architecturally guaranteed). It
also assumes that CPUID works at all (which is not guaranteed on
x86_32).
If optimisations are enabled, gcc warns about potentially
uninitialized variables. Fix this by adding an exit-on-error after
every call to __get_cpuid() instead of just checking the maximum
level.

Upgrade bootgraph/sleepgraph to be able to run on python2 and python3.
Both now simply require python, the system can choose which to use.
bootgraph python3 update:
- add floor function to handle integer arithmetic
- change argument loop to use next() instead of args.next()
- open dmesg log and popen in binary, use decode(ascii, ignore)
- sort all html data to allow diff between python versions
- change exception handler to use python3 as instead of comma
sleepgraph python3 update:
- import configparser not ConfigParser (p2 needs python-configparser)
- add floor function to handle integer arithmetic
- change argument loop to use next() instead of args.next()
- handle popen output in binary, use decode(ascii, ignore)
- sort all html/output data to allow diff between python versions
- force gzip open to use text mode, same for file open
- ensure no binary data is written to logs (ascii convert devprops info)
- use codecs library to handle zlib encoding for mcelog data
- remove all uses of python3.7 keyword "async" as members or vars
- assume all FPDT and DMI data is in binary string form
sleepgraph:
- turbostat will be used by default if it's found & the mode is freeze
- a new option "-noturbostat" will disable its use
- fix bug where two callgraphs with the same start time overwrite.
- fix s2idle processing where two suspend/resume_machines occur back2back
- update getexec function to use which first (assuming PATH exists)
- new platforminfo data in log with: lspci, gpe counts, /proc/interrupts
- new data is zipped, b64 encoded, and tacked on the end of ftrace

While descending directories, Kbuild produces objects for modules,
but do not link final *.ko files; it is done in the modpost.
To keep track of modules, Kbuild creates a *.mod file in $(MODVERDIR)
for every module it is building. Some post-processing steps read the
necessary information from *.mod files. This avoids descending into
directories again. This mechanism was introduced in 2003 or so.
Later, commit 551559e13a ("kbuild: implement modules.order") added
modules.order. So, we can simply read it out to know all the modules
with directory paths. This is easier than parsing the first line of
*.mod files.
$(MODVERDIR) has a flat directory structure, that is, *.mod files
are named only with base names. This is based on the assumption that
the module name is unique across the tree. This assumption is really
fragile.
Stephen Rothwell reported a race condition caused by a module name
conflict:
https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/5/13/991
In parallel building, two different threads could write to the same
$(MODVERDIR)/*.mod simultaneously.
Non-unique module names are the source of all kind of troubles, hence
commit 3a48a91901 ("kbuild: check uniqueness of module names")
introduced a new checker script.
However, it is still fragile in the build system point of view because
this race happens before scripts/modules-check.sh is invoked. If it
happens again, the modpost will emit unclear error messages.
To fix this issue completely, create *.mod with full directory path
so that two threads never attempt to write to the same file.
$(MODVERDIR) is no longer needed.
Since modules with directory paths are listed in modules.order, Kbuild
is still able to find *.mod files without additional descending.
I also killed cmd_secanalysis; scripts/mod/sumversion.c computes MD4 hash
for modules with MODULE_VERSION(). When CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y,
it occurs not only in the modpost stage, but also during directory
descending, where sumversion.c may parse stale *.mod files. It would emit
'No such file or directory' warning when an object consisting a module is
renamed, or when a single-obj module is turned into a multi-obj module or
vice versa.

ASUS WMI driver got a big refactoring in order to support the TUF Gaming
laptops. Besides that, the regression with backlight being permanently off
on various EeePC laptops has been fixed.
Accelerometer on HP ProBook 450 G0 shows wrong measurements due to
X axis being inverted. This has been fixed.
Intel PMC core driver has been extended to be ACPI enumerated
if the DSDT provides device with _HID "INT33A1". This allows
to convert the driver to be pure platform and support new hardware
purely based on ACPI DSDT.
From now on the Intel Speed Select Technology is supported thru
a corresponding driver. This driver provides an access to the features
of the ISST, such as Performance Profile, Core Power, Base frequency and
Turbo Frequency.
Mellanox platform drivers has been refactored and now extended
to support more systems, including new coming ones.
The OLPC XO-1.75 platform is now supported.
CB4063 Beckhoff Automation board is using PMC clocks,
provided via pmc_atom driver, for ethernet controllers in a way
that they can't be managed by the clock driver. The quirk
has been extended to cover this case.
Touchscreen on Chuwi Hi10 Plus tablet has been enabled. Meanwhile
the information of Chuwi Hi10 Air has been fixed to cover more models
based on the same platform.
Xiaomi notebooks have WMI interface enabled. Thus, the driver to support it
has been provided. It required some extension of the generic WMI library,
which allows to propagate opaque context to the ->probe() of the
individual drivers.
This release includes debugfs clean up from Greg KH for several drivers
that drop return code check and make debugfs absence or failure non-fatal.
Miscellaneous fixes here and there, mostly for Acer WMI and
various Intel drivers.

The Intel(R) Speed select technologies contains four features.
Performance profile:An non architectural mechanism that allows multiple
optimized performance profiles per system via static and/or dynamic
adjustment of core count, workload, Tjmax, and TDP, etc. aka ISS
in the documentation.
Base Frequency: Enables users to increase guaranteed base frequency on
certain cores (high priority cores) in exchange for lower base frequency
on remaining cores (low priority cores). aka PBF in the documenation.
Turbo frequency: Enables the ability to set different turbo ratio limits
to cores based on priority. aka FACT in the documentation.
Core power: An Interface that allows user to define per core/tile
priority.
There is a multi level help for commands and options. This can be used

be used :
cpupower -c #i frequency-set -f #f -r
While setting frequency using cpupower frequency-set command, if we use
'-r' option, it is expected to set frequency for all cpus related to
cpu #i. But it is observed to be missing the last cpu in related cpu
list. This patch fixes the problem.

tools/power/acpi/.gitignore has the following entries:
acpidbg
acpidump
ec
They are intended to ignore the following build artifacts:
tools/power/acpi/acpidbg
tools/power/acpi/acpidump
tools/power/acpi/ec
However, those .gitignore entries are effective not only for the
current directory, but also for any sub-directories.
So, from the point of .gitignore grammar, the following check-in
directories are also considered to be ignored:
tools/power/acpi/tools/acpidbg
tools/power/acpi/tools/acpidump
tools/power/acpi/tools/ec
As the manual gitignore(5) says "Files already tracked by Git are not
affected", this is not a problem as far as Git is concerned.
However, Git is not the only program that parses .gitignore because
.gitignore is useful to distinguish build artifacts from source files.
For example, tar(1) supports the --exclude-vcs-ignore option. As of
writing, this option does not work perfectly, but it intends to create
a tarball excluding files specified by .gitignore.
The issue can be prevented by prefixing the pattern with a slash; the
leading slash means the specified pattern is relative to the current
directory.
Do that for the "include" directory too for consistency and extra
safety.

Pull x86 MDS mitigations from Thomas Gleixner:
"Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS) is a hardware vulnerability
which allows unprivileged speculative access to data which is
available in various CPU internal buffers. This new set of misfeatures
has the following CVEs assigned:
CVE-2018-12126 MSBDS Microarchitectural Store Buffer Data Sampling
CVE-2018-12130 MFBDS Microarchitectural Fill Buffer Data Sampling
CVE-2018-12127 MLPDS Microarchitectural Load Port Data Sampling
CVE-2019-11091 MDSUM Microarchitectural Data Sampling Uncacheable Memory
MDS attacks target microarchitectural buffers which speculatively
forward data under certain conditions. Disclosure gadgets can expose
this data via cache side channels.
Contrary to other speculation based vulnerabilities the MDS
vulnerability does not allow the attacker to control the memory target
address. As a consequence the attacks are purely sampling based, but
as demonstrated with the TLBleed attack samples can be postprocessed
successfully.
The mitigation is to flush the microarchitectural buffers on return to
user space and before entering a VM. It's bolted on the VERW
instruction and requires a microcode update. As some of the attacks
exploit data structures shared between hyperthreads, full protection
requires to disable hyperthreading. The kernel does not do that by
default to avoid breaking unattended updates.
The mitigation set comes with documentation for administrators and a
deeper technical view"

The package power can also be read from an MSR. It's not clear exactly
what is included, and whether it's aggregated over all nodes or
reported separately.
It does look like this is reported separately per CCX (I get a single
value on the Ryzen R7 1700), but it might be reported separately per-
die (node?) on larger processors. If that's the case, it would have to
be recorded per node and aggregated for the socket.
Note that although Zen has these MSRs reporting power, it looks like
the actual RAPL configuration (power limits, configured TDP) is done
through PCI configuration space. I have not yet found any public
documentation for this.

These processors report RAPL support in bit 14 of CPUID 0x80000007 EDX,
and the following MSRs are present:
0xc0010299 (RAPL_PWR_UNIT), like Intel's RAPL_POWER_UNIT
0xc001029a (CORE_ENERGY_STAT), kind of like Intel's PP0_ENERGY_STATUS
0xc001029b (PKG_ENERGY_STAT), like Intel's PKG_ENERGY_STATUS
A notable difference from the Intel implementation is that AMD reports
the "Cores" energy usage separately for each core, rather than a
per-package total. The code has been adjusted to handle either case in a
generic way.

Pull more power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"These are mostly fixes and cleanups on top of the previously merged
power management material for 5.1-rc1 with one cpupower utility update
that wasn't pushed earlier due to unfortunate timing.
Specifics:
- Fix registration of new cpuidle governors partially broken during
the 5.0 development cycle by mistake (Rafael Wysocki).
- Avoid integer overflows in the menu cpuidle governor by making it
discard the overflowing data points upfront (Rafael Wysocki).
- Fix minor mistake in the recent update of the iowait boost
computation in the intel_pstate driver (Rafael Wysocki).
- Drop incorrect __init annotation from one function in the pxa2xx
cpufreq driver (Arnd Bergmann).
- Fix the operating performance points (OPP) framework initialization
for devices in multiple power domains if only one of them is
scalable (Rajendra Nayak).
- Fix mistake in dev_pm_opp_set_rate() which causes it to skip
updating the performance state if the new frequency is the same as
the old one (Viresh Kumar).
- Rework the cancellation of wakeup source timers to avoid potential
issues with it and do some cleanups unlocked by that change (Viresh
Kumar, Rafael Wysocki).
- Clean up the code computing the active/suspended time of devices in
the PM-runtime framework after recent changes (Ulf Hansson).
- Make the power management infrastructure code use pr_fmt()
consistently (Joe Perches).
- Clean up the generic power domains (genpd) framework somewhat
(Aisheng Dong).
- Improve kerneldoc comments for two functions in the cpufreq core
(Rafael Wysocki).
- Fix typo in a PM QoS file description comment (Aisheng Dong).
- Update the handling of CPU boost frequencies in the cpupower
utility (Abhishek Goel)"

cpufreq driver creates sysfs file "scaling_boost_frequency" for platforms
which support boost frequency. Cpupower now prints boost frequencies
separately. For few x86 vendors who already have different way to get boost
frequency, will continue to use the existing logic. Rest of the platforms
will rely on "scaling_boost_frequency" file to display boost frequency.

A recent turbostat release increased topo.max_cpu_num
to make it convenient to handle sysfs bitmaps of 32-cpus.

turbostat recently gained a feature adding APIC and X2APIC columns.
While they are disabled by-default, they are enabled with --debug

cpupower crashes on VMWare guests. The guests have the AMD PStateDef MSR
(0xC0010064 + state number) set to zero. As a result fid and did are zero
and the crash occurs because of a divide by zero (cof = fid/did). This
can be prevented by checking the enable bit in the PStateDef MSR before
calculating cof. By doing this the value of pstate[i] remains zero and
the value can be tested before displaying the active Pstates.
Check the enable bit in the PstateDef register for all supported families
and only print out enabled Pstates.

The strncpy doesn't null terminate the string because the size is too
short by one byte.

Almost all files in the kernel are either plain text or UTF-8 encoded. A
couple however are ISO_8859-1, usually just a few characters in a C
comments, for historic reasons.
This converts them all to UTF-8 for consistency.

Pull turbostat utility fixes for 4.18 from Len Brown:
"Three of them are for regressions since Linux-4.17"

turbostat fails on some multi-package topologies because the logical node
enumeration assumes that the nodes are sequentially numbered,
which causes the logical numa nodes to not be enumerated, or enumerated incorrectly.
Use a more robust enumeration algorithm which allows for non-seqential physical nodes.

This patch fixes a regression introduced in
commit 8cb48b32a5 ("tools/power turbostat: track thread ID in cpu_topology")
Turbostat uses incorrect cores number ('topo.num_cores') - its value is count
of logical CPUs, instead of count of physical cores. So it is twice as large as
it should be on a typical Intel system. For example, on a 6 core Xeon system
'topo.num_cores' is 12, and on a 52 core Xeon system 'topo.num_cores' is 104.
And interestingly, on a 68-core Knights Landing Intel system 'topo.num_cores'
is 272, because this system has 4 logical CPUs per core.
As a result, some of the turbostat calculations are incorrect. For example,
on idle 52-core Xeon system when all cores are ~99% in Core C6 (CPU%c6), the
summary (very first) line shows ~48% Core C6, while it should be ~99%.
This patch fixes the problem by fixing 'topo.num_cores' calculation.
Was:
1. Init 'thread_id' for all CPUs to -1
2. Run 'get_thread_siblings()' which sets it to 0 or 1
3. Increment 'topo.num_cores' when thread_id != -1 (bug!)
Now:
1. Init 'thread_id' for all CPUs to -1
2. Run 'get_thread_siblings()' which sets it to 0 or 1
3. Increment 'topo.num_cores' when thread_id is not 0
I did not have a chance to test this on an AMD machine, and only tested on a
couple of Intel Xeons (6 and 52 cores).

Running turbostat on machines that don't expose nodes
in sysfs (no /sys/bus/node) causes a segfault or a -nan
value diesplayed in the log. This is caused by
physical_node_id being reported as -1 and logical_node_id
being calculated as a negative number resulting in the new
GET_THREAD/GET_CORE returning an incorrect address.
