By the way, with the wrong fix, when part_shift is the default value,
only 8 ndb devices can be created since 8 << 5 is greater than 0xff.
Since the max bits for 'first_minor' should be the same as what
MKDEV() does, which is 20. Change the upper bound of 'first_minor'
from 0xff to 0xfffff.

virtblk_setup_cmd returns blk_status_t in an int, callers then assign it
back to a blk_status_t variable. blk_status_t is either u32 or (more
typically) u8 so it works, but is inelegant and causes sparse warnings.
Pass the status in blk_status_t in a consistent way.

The default value is 0 meaning "no limit". However if 0
is specified on the command line it is instead silently
converted to 1. Further, the value is already validated
at point of use, there's no point in duplicating code
validating the value when it is set.
Simplify the code while making the behaviour more consistent
by using plain module_param.

If an untrusted device neogitates BLK_F_MQ but advertises a zero
num_queues, the driver may end up trying to allocating zero size
buffers where ZERO_SIZE_PTR is returned which may pass the checking
against the NULL. This will lead unexpected results.
Fixing this by failing the probe in this case.

No need to pre-allocate a big buffer for the IO SGL anymore. If a device
has lots of deep queues, preallocation for the sg list can consume
substantial amounts of memory. For HW virtio-blk device, nr_hw_queues
can be 64 or 128 and each queue's depth might be 128. This means the
resulting preallocation for the data SGLs is big.
Switch to runtime allocation for SGL for lists longer than 2 entries.
This is the approach used by NVMe drivers so it should be reasonable for
virtio block as well. Runtime SGL allocation has always been the case
for the legacy I/O path so this is nothing new.
The preallocated small SGL depends on SG_CHAIN so if the ARCH doesn't
support SG_CHAIN, use only runtime allocation for the SGL.
Re-organize the setup of the IO request to fit the new sg chain
mechanism.
No performance degradation was seen (fio libaio engine with 16 jobs and
128 iodepth):

Commit 0a593fbbc2 ("null_blk: poll queue support") introduced the poll
queue feature to null_blk. After this change, null_blk device has both
submit queues and poll queues, and null_map_queues() callback maps the
both queues for corresponding hardware contexts. The commit also added
the device configuration attribute 'poll_queues' in same manner as the
existing attribute 'submit_queues'. These attributes allow to modify the
numbers of queues. However, when the new values are stored to these
attributes, the values are just handled only for the corresponding
queue. When number of submit_queue is updated, number of poll_queue is
not counted, or vice versa. This caused inconsistent number of queues
and queue mapping and resulted in null-ptr-dereference. This failure was
observed in blktests block/029 and block/030.
To avoid the inconsistency, fix the attribute updates to care both
submit_queues and poll_queues. Introduce the helper function
nullb_update_nr_hw_queues() to handle stores to the both two attributes.
Add poll_queues field to the struct nullb_device to track the number in
same manner as submit_queues. Add two more fields prev_submit_queues and
prev_poll_queues to keep the previous values before change. In case the
block layer failed to update the nr_hw_queues, refer the previous values
in null_map_queues() to map queues in same manner as before change.
Also add poll_queues value checks in nullb_update_nr_hw_queues() and
null_validate_conf(). They ensure the poll_queues value of each device
is within the range from 1 to module parameter value of poll_queues.

The second argument was only used by the USB gadget code, yet everyone
pays the overhead of passing a zero to be passed into aio, where it
ends up being part of the aio res2 value.
Now that everybody is passing in zero, kill off the extra argument.

As it turns out, my earlier patch in commit 86d46fdaa1 (block:
ataflop: fix breakage introduced at blk-mq refactoring) was
incomplete. This patch fixes any remaining issues found during
more testing and code review.
Requests exceeding 4 k are handled in 4k segments but
__blk_mq_end_request() is never called on these (still
sectors outstanding on the request). With redo_fd_request()
removed, there is no provision to kick off processing of the
next segment, causing requests exceeding 4k to hang. (By
setting /sys/block/fd0/queue/max_sectors_k <= 4 as workaround,
this behaviour can be avoided).
Instead of reintroducing redo_fd_request(), requeue the remainder
of the request by calling blk_mq_requeue_request() on incomplete
requests (i.e. when blk_update_request() still returns true), and
rely on the block layer to queue the residual as new request.
Both error handling and formatting needs to release the
ST-DMA lock, so call finish_fdc() on these (this was previously
handled by redo_fd_request()). finish_fdc() may be called
legitimately without the ST-DMA lock held - make sure we only
release the lock if we actually held it. In a similar way,
early exit due to errors in ataflop_queue_rq() must release
the lock.
After minor errors, fd_error sets up to recalibrate the drive
but never re-runs the current operation (another task handled by
redo_fd_request() before). Call do_fd_action() to get the next
steps (seek, retry read/write) underway.

Support for cyrptoloop has been officially marked broken and deprecated
in favor of dm-crypt (which supports the same broken algorithms if
needed) in Linux 2.6.4 (released in March 2004), and support for it has
been entirely removed from losetup in util-linux 2.23 (released in April
2013). The XOR transfer has never been more than a toy to demonstrate
the transfer in the bad old times of crypto export restrictions.
Remove them as they have some nasty interactions with loop device life
times due to the iteration over all loop devices in
loop_unregister_transfer.

Add a new helper that calls blk_get_request and initializes the
scsi_request to avoid the indirect call through ->.initialize_rq_fn.
Note that this makes the pktcdvd driver depend on the SCSI core, but
given that only SCSI devices support SCSI passthrough requests that
is not a functional change.

When a nbd device encounters a writeback error, that error will
get propagated to the bd_inode's wb_err field. Then if this nbd
device's backend is disconnected and another is attached, we will
get back the previous writeback error on fsync, which is unexpected.
To fix it, let's use invalidate_disk() helper to invalidate the
disk on disconnect instead of just setting disk's capacity to zero.

We never checked for errors on device_add_disk() as this function
returned void. Now that this is fixed, use the shiny new error
handling. The function xlvbd_alloc_gendisk() typically does the
unwinding on error on allocating the disk and creating the tag,
but since all that error handling was stuffed inside
xlvbd_alloc_gendisk() we must repeat the tag free'ing as well.
We set the info->rq to NULL to ensure blkif_free() doesn't crash
on blk_mq_stop_hw_queues() on device_add_disk() error as the queue
will be long gone by then.

Refactoring of the Atari floppy driver when converting to blk-mq
has broken the state machine in not-so-subtle ways:
finish_fdc() must be called when operations on the floppy device
have completed. This is crucial in order to relase the ST-DMA
lock, which protects against concurrent access to the ST-DMA
controller by other drivers (some DMA related, most just related
to device register access - broken beyond compare, I know).
When rewriting the driver's old do_request() function, the fact
that finish_fdc() was called only when all queued requests had
completed appears to have been overlooked. Instead, the new
request function calls finish_fdc() immediately after the last
request has been queued. finish_fdc() executes a dummy seek after
most requests, and this overwrites the state machine's interrupt
hander that was set up to wait for completion of the read/write
request just prior. To make matters worse, finish_fdc() is called
before device interrupts are re-enabled, making certain that the
read/write interupt is missed.
Shifting the finish_fdc() call into the read/write request
completion handler ensures the driver waits for the request to
actually complete. With a queue depth of 2, we won't see long
request sequences, so calling finish_fdc() unconditionally just
adds a little overhead for the dummy seeks, and keeps the code
simple.
While we're at it, kill ataflop_commit_rqs() which does nothing
but run finish_fdc() unconditionally, again likely wiping out an
in-flight request.

There is a problem that nbd_handle_reply() might access freed request:
1) At first, a normal io is submitted and completed with scheduler:

sched_tags->rq[internel_tag] = sched_tag->static_rq[internel_tag]
...
blk_mq_get_driver_tag
__blk_mq_get_driver_tag -> get tag from tags
tags->rq[tag] = sched_tag->static_rq[internel_tag]
So, both tags->rq[tag] and sched_tags->rq[internel_tag] are pointing
to the request: sched_tags->static_rq[internal_tag]. Even if the
io is finished.
2) nbd server send a reply with random tag directly:

not zero.

commit 6a468d5990 ("nbd: don't start req until after the dead
connection logic") move blk_mq_start_request() from nbd_queue_rq()
to nbd_handle_cmd() to skip starting request if the connection is
dead. However, request is still started in other error paths.
Currently, blk_mq_end_request() will be called immediately if
nbd_queue_rq() failed, thus start request in such situation is
useless. So remove blk_mq_start_request() from error paths in
nbd_handle_cmd().

Instead of using two separate code paths for cleaning up an atari disk,
use one. We take the more careful approach to check for *all* disk
types, as is done on exit. The init path didn't have that check as
the alternative disk types are only probed for later, they are not
initialized by default.

The ataflop assumes del_gendisk() is safe to call, this is only
true because add_disk() does not return a failure, but that will
change soon. And so, before we get to adding error handling for
that case, let's make sure we keep track of which disks actually
get registered. Then we use this to only call del_gendisk for them.

Instead of calling del_gendisk() on exit alone, let's add
a registration bool to the floppy disk state, this way this can
be done on the shared caller, swim_cleanup_floppy_disk().
This will be more useful in subsequent patches. Right now, this
just shuffles functionality out to a helper in a safe way.

Disk cleanup can be shared between exit and bringup. Use a
helper to do the work required. The only functional change at
this point is we're being overly paraoid on exit to check for
a null disk as well now, and this should be safe.
We'll later expand on this, this change just makes subsequent
changes easier to read.

platform_device_unregister() should only be called when
a respective platform_device_register() is called. However
the floppy driver currently allows failures when registring
a drive and a bail out could easily cause an invalid call
to platform_device_unregister() where it was not intended.
Fix this by adding a bool to keep track of when the platform
device was registered for a drive.
This does not fix any known panic / bug. This issue was found
through code inspection while preparing the driver to use the
up and coming support for device_add_disk() error handling.
From what I can tell from code inspection, chances of this
ever happening should be insanely small, perhaps OOM.

After the patch titled "floppy: use blk_mq_alloc_disk and
blk_cleanup_disk" the floppy driver was modified to allocate
the blk_mq_alloc_disk() which allocates the disk with the
queue. This is further clarified later with the patch titled
"block: remove alloc_disk and alloc_disk_node". This clarifies
that:
Most drivers should use and have been converted to use
blk_alloc_disk and blk_mq_alloc_disk. Only the scsi
ULPs and dasd still allocate a disk separately from the
request_queue so don't bother with convenience macros for
something that should not see significant new users and
remove these wrappers.
And then we have the patch titled, "block: hold a request_queue
reference for the lifetime of struct gendisk" which ensures
that a queue is *always* present for sure during the entire
lifetime of a disk.
In the floppy driver's case then the disk always comes with the
queue. So even if even if the queue was cleaned up on exit, putting
the disk *is* still required, and likewise, blk_cleanup_queue() on
a null queue should not happen now as disk->queue is valid from
disk allocation time on.
Automatic backport code scrapers should hopefully not cherry pick
this patch as a stable fix candidate without full due dilligence to
ensure all the work done on the block layer to make this happen is
merged first.

A completion is used to notify the initial probe what is
happening and so we must defer error handling on completion.
Do this by remembering the error and using the shared cleanup
function.
The tags are shared and so are hanlded later for the

There's currently no way to experiment with polled IO with null_blk,
which seems like an oversight. This patch adds support for polled IO.
We keep a list of issued IOs on submit, and then process that list
when mq_ops->poll() is invoked.
A new parameter is added, poll_queues. It defaults to 1 like the
submit queues, meaning we'll have 1 poll queue available.

struct io_comp_batch contains a list head and a completion handler, which
will allow completions to more effciently completed batches of IO.
For now, no functional changes in this patch, we just define the
io_comp_batch structure and add the argument to the file_operations iopoll
handler.

Replace the blk_poll interface that requires the caller to keep a queue
and cookie from the submissions with polling based on the bio.
Polling for the bio itself leads to a few advantages:
- the cookie construction can made entirely private in blk-mq.c
- the caller does not need to remember the request_queue and cookie
separately and thus sidesteps their lifetime issues
- keeping the device and the cookie inside the bio allows to trivially
support polling BIOs remapping by stacking drivers
- a lot of code to propagate the cookie back up the submission path can
be removed entirely.

It is a bit confusing that there is BLKDEV_MAX_RQ and MAX_SCHED_RQ, as
the name BLKDEV_MAX_RQ would imply the max requests always, which it is
not.
Rename to BLKDEV_MAX_RQ to BLKDEV_DEFAULT_RQ, matching its usage - that being
the default number of requests assigned when allocating a request queue.

It turns out that access to config space before completing the feature
negotiation is broken for big endian guests at least with QEMU hosts up
to 6.1 inclusive. This affects any device that accesses config space in
the validate callback: at the moment that is virtio-net with
VIRTIO_NET_F_MTU but since 82e89ea077 ("virtio-blk: Add validation for
block size in config space") that also started affecting virtio-blk with
VIRTIO_BLK_F_BLK_SIZE. Further, unlike VIRTIO_NET_F_MTU which is off by
default on QEMU, VIRTIO_BLK_F_BLK_SIZE is on by default, which resulted
in lots of people not being able to boot VMs on BE.
The spec is very clear that what we are doing is legal so QEMU needs to
be fixed, but given it's been broken for so many years and no one
noticed, we need to give QEMU a bit more time before applying this.
Further, this patch is incomplete (does not check blk size is a power
of two) and it duplicates the logic from nbd.
Revert for now, and we'll reapply a cleaner logic in the next release.

__nbd_ioctl()") raised an issue from the fallback helpers added in
commit f0907827a8 ("compiler.h: enable builtin overflow checkers and
add fallback code")

The added check_mul_overflow() call is being passed 64 bit values.
COMPILER_HAS_GENERIC_BUILTIN_OVERFLOW is not set for this build (see
include/linux/overflow.h).
Specifically, the helpers for checking whether the results of a
multiplication overflowed (__unsigned_mul_overflow,
__signed_add_overflow) use the division operator when
!COMPILER_HAS_GENERIC_BUILTIN_OVERFLOW. This is problematic for 64b
operands on 32b hosts.
This was fixed upstream by
commit 76ae847497 ("Documentation: raise minimum supported version of
GCC to 5.1")
which is not suitable to be backported to stable.
Further, __builtin_mul_overflow() would emit a libcall to a
compiler-rt-only symbol when compiling with clang < 14 for 32b targets.
ld.lld: error: undefined symbol: __mulodi4
In order to keep stable buildable with GCC 4.9 and clang < 14, modify
struct nbd_config to instead track the number of bits of the block size;
reconstructing the block size using runtime checked shifts that are not
problematic for those compilers and in a ways that can be backported to
stable.
In nbd_set_size, we do validate that the value of blksize must be a
power of two (POT) and is in the range of [512, PAGE_SIZE] (both
inclusive).
This does modify the debugfs interface.

syzbot is reporting circular locking problem at __loop_clr_fd() [1], for
commit a160c6159d ("block: add an optional probe callback to
major_names") is calling the module's probe function with major_names_lock
held.
Fortunately, since commit 990e78116d ("block: loop: fix deadlock
between open and remove") stopped holding loop_ctl_mutex in lo_open(),
current role of loop_ctl_mutex is to serialize access to loop_index_idr
and loop_add()/loop_remove(); in other words, management of id for IDR.
To avoid holding loop_ctl_mutex during whole add/remove operation, use
a bool flag to indicate whether the loop device is ready for use.
loop_unregister_transfer() which is called from cleanup_cryptoloop()
currently has possibility of use-after-free problem due to lack of
serialization between kfree() from loop_remove() from loop_control_remove()
and mutex_lock() from unregister_transfer_cb(). But since lo->lo_encryption
should be already NULL when this function is called due to module unload,
and commit 222013f9ac ("cryptoloop: add a deprecation warning")
indicates that we will remove this function shortly, this patch updates
this function to emit warning instead of checking lo->lo_encryption.
Holding loop_ctl_mutex in loop_exit() is pointless, for all users must
close /dev/loop-control and /dev/loop$num (in order to drop module's
refcount to 0) before loop_exit() starts, and nobody can open
/dev/loop-control or /dev/loop$num afterwards.

Today blkfront will trust the backend to send only sane response data.
In order to avoid privilege escalations or crashes in case of malicious
backends verify the data to be within expected limits. Especially make
sure that the response always references an outstanding request.
Introduce a new state of the ring BLKIF_STATE_ERROR which will be
switched to in case an inconsistency is being detected. Recovering from
this state is possible only via removing and adding the virtual device
again (e.g. via a suspend/resume cycle).
Make all warning messages issued due to valid error responses rate
limited in order to avoid message floods being triggered by a malicious
backend.

The patch breaks userspace implementations (e.g. fdutils) and introduces
regressions in behaviour. Previously, it was possible to O_NDELAY open a
floppy device with no media inserted or with write protected media without
an error. Some userspace tools use this particular behavior for probing.
It's not the first time when we revert this patch. Previous revert is in
commit f2791e7ead (Revert "floppy: refactor open() flags handling").

The nbd->destroy_complete pointer is not really needed. For creating
a device without a specific index we now simplify skip devices marked
NBD_DESTROY_ON_DISCONNECT as there is not much point to reuse them.
For device creation with a specific index there is no real need to
treat the case of a requested but not finished disconnect different
than any other device that is being shutdown, i.e. we can just return
an error, as a slightly different race window would anyway.

Device marked as NBD_DESTROY_ON_DISCONNECT can and should be skipped
given that they won't survive the disconnect. So skip them and try
to grab a reference directly and just continue if the the devices
is being torn down or created and thus has a zero refcount.

Previously nbd_index_mutex was held during whole add/remove/lookup
operations in order to guarantee that partially initialized devices are
not reachable via idr_find() or idr_for_each(). But now that partially
initialized devices become reachable as soon as idr_alloc() succeeds,
we need to skip partially initialized devices. Since it seems that
all functions use refcount_inc_not_zero(&nbd->refs) in order to skip
destroying devices, update nbd->refs from zero to non-zero as the last
step of device initialization in order to also skip partially initialized
devices.

When nbd_genl_connect restarts to wait for a disconnecting device, nbd

Syzbot hit WARNING in internal_create_group(). The problem was in
too big disk->first_minor.
disk->first_minor is initialized by value, which comes from userspace
and there wasn't any sanity checks about value correctness. It can cause
duplicate creation of sysfs files/links, because disk->first_minor will
be passed to MKDEV() which causes truncation to byte. Since maximum
minor value is 0xff, let's check if first_minor is correct minor number.
NOTE: the root case of the reported warning was in wrong error handling
in register_disk(), but we can avoid passing knowingly wrong values to
sysfs API, because sysfs error messages can confuse users. For example:
user passed 1048576 as index, but sysfs complains about duplicate
creation of /dev/block/43:0. It's not obvious how 1048576 becomes 0.

Now open_mutex is used to synchronize partition operations (e.g,
blk_drop_partitions() and blkdev_reread_part()), however it makes
nbd driver broken, because nbd may call del_gendisk() in nbd_release()
or nbd_genl_disconnect() if NBD_CFLAG_DESTROY_ON_DISCONNECT is enabled,
and deadlock occurs, as shown below:

Instead of fixing block layer (e.g, introduce another lock), fixing
the nbd driver to call del_gendisk() in a kworker when
NBD_DESTROY_ON_DISCONNECT is enabled. When NBD_DESTROY_ON_DISCONNECT
is disabled, nbd device will always be destroy through module removal,
and there is no risky of deadlock.
To ensure the reuse of nbd index succeeds, moving the calling of
idr_remove() after del_gendisk(), so if the reused index is not found
in nbd_index_idr, the old disk must have been deleted. And reusing
the existing destroy_complete mechanism to ensure nbd_genl_connect()
will wait for the completion of del_gendisk().
Also adding a new workqueue for nbd removal, so nbd_cleanup()
can ensure all removals complete before exits.

There is a race between iterating over requests in
nbd_clear_que() and completing requests in recv_work(),
which can lead to double completion of a request.

An untrusted device might presents an invalid block size
in configuration space. This tries to add validation for it
in the validate callback and clear the VIRTIO_BLK_F_BLK_SIZE
feature bit if the value is out of the supported range.
And we also double check the value in virtblk_probe() in
case that it's changed after the validation.

We noticed that the user interface of Android devices becomes very slow
under memory pressure. This is because Android uses the zram driver on top
of the loop driver for swapping, because under memory pressure the swap
code alternates reads and writes quickly, because mq-deadline is the
default scheduler for loop devices and because mq-deadline delays writes by
five seconds for such a workload with default settings. Fix this by making
the kernel select I/O scheduler 'none' from inside add_disk() for loop
devices. This default can be overridden at any time from user space,
e.g. via a udev rule. This approach has an advantage compared to changing
the I/O scheduler from userspace from 'mq-deadline' into 'none', namely
that synchronize_rcu() does not get called.
This patch changes the default I/O scheduler for loop devices from
'mq-deadline' into 'none'.
Additionally, this patch reduces the Android boot time on my test setup
with 0.5 seconds compared to configuring the loop I/O scheduler from user
space.

sysfs_emit function was added to be aware of the PAGE_SIZE maximum of
the temporary buffer used for outputting sysfs content, so there is no
possible overruns. So replace the uses of any s*printf functions for
the sysfs show functions with sysfs_emit.

alive, so don't bother to grab a reference to it.

Commit 6cc8e74308 ("loop: scale loop device by introducing per
device lock") re-opened a race window for NULL pointer dereference at
loop_validate_file() where commit 310ca162d7 ("block/loop: Use
global lock for ioctl() operation.") has closed.
Although we need to guarantee that other loop devices will not change
during traversal, we can't take remote "struct loop_device"->lo_mutex
inside loop_validate_file() in order to avoid AB-BA deadlock. Therefore,
introduce a global lock dedicated for loop_validate_file() which is
conditionally taken before local "struct loop_device"->lo_mutex is taken.

Currently rbd_quiesce_lock() holds lock_rwsem for read while blocking
on releasing_wait completion. On the I/O completion side, each image
request also needs to take lock_rwsem for read. Because rw_semaphore
implementation doesn't allow new readers after a writer has indicated
interest in the lock, this can result in a deadlock if something that
needs to take lock_rwsem for write gets involved. For example:
1. watch error occurs
2. rbd_watch_errcb() takes lock_rwsem for write, clears owner_cid and
releases lock_rwsem
3. after reestablishing the watch, rbd_reregister_watch() takes
lock_rwsem for write and calls rbd_reacquire_lock()
4. rbd_quiesce_lock() downgrades lock_rwsem to for read and blocks on
releasing_wait until running_list becomes empty
5. another watch error occurs
6. rbd_watch_errcb() blocks trying to take lock_rwsem for write
7. no in-flight image request can complete and delete itself from
running_list because lock_rwsem won't be granted anymore
A similar scenario can occur with "lock has been acquired" and "lock
has been released" notification handers which also take lock_rwsem for
write to update owner_cid.
We don't actually get anything useful from sitting on lock_rwsem in
rbd_quiesce_lock() -- owner_cid updates certainly don't need to be
synchronized with. In fact the whole owner_cid tracking logic could
probably be removed from the kernel client because we don't support
proxied maintenance operations.

Skipping the "lock has been released" notification if the lock owner
is not what we expect based on owner_cid can lead to I/O hangs.
One example is our own notifications: because owner_cid is cleared
in rbd_unlock(), when we get our own notification it is processed as
unexpected/duplicate and maybe_kick_acquire() isn't called. If a peer
that requested the lock then doesn't go through with acquiring it,
I/O requests that came in while the lock was being quiesced would
be stalled until another I/O request is submitted and kicks acquire
from rbd_img_exclusive_lock().
This makes the comment in rbd_release_lock() actually true: prior to
this change the canceled work was being requeued in response to the
"lock has been acquired" notification from rbd_handle_acquired_lock().

xen-blkfront has a weird protocol where close message from the remote
side can be delayed, and where hot removals are treated somewhat
differently from regular removals, all leading to potential NULL

removals even when the device is opened like all other Linux block
drivers.

The struct virtio_blk_config seg_max value is read from the device and
incremented by 2 to account for the request header and status byte
descriptors added by the driver.
In preparation for supporting untrusted virtio-blk devices, protect
against integer overflow and limit the value to a safe maximum.

Prior to 72deb455b5 ("block: remove CONFIG_LBDAF"), it was optional if
the 32-bit kernel support block device and/or file sizes larger than 2 TiB
(considering the sector size is 512 bytes)
But now sector_t and blkcnt_t are always 64-bit in size.

Problem:
On reconfigure of device, there is no way to defend if the backend
storage is matching with the initial backend storage.
Say, if an initial connect request for backend "pool1/image1" got
mapped to /dev/nbd0 and the userspace process is terminated. A next
reconfigure request within NBD_ATTR_DEAD_CONN_TIMEOUT is allowed to
use /dev/nbd0 for a different backend "pool1/image2"
For example, an operation like below could be dangerous:

Solution:
Provide a way for userspace processes to keep some metadata to identify
between the device and the backend, so that when a reconfigure request is
made, we can compare and avoid such dangerous operations.
With this solution, as part of the initial connect request, backend
path can be stored in the sysfs per device config, so that on a reconfigure
request it's easy to check if the backend path matches with the initial
connect backend path.
Please note, ioctl interface to nbd will not have these changes, as there
won't be any reconfigure.

The current code only associates with the existing blkcg when aio is used
to access the backing file. This patch covers all types of i/o to the
backing file and also associates the memcg so if the backing file is on
tmpfs, memory is charged appropriately.
This patch also exports cgroup_get_e_css and int_active_memcg so it can be
used by the loop module.

The loop device runs all i/o to the backing file on a separate kworker
thread which results in all i/o being charged to the root cgroup. This
allows a loop device to be used to trivially bypass resource limits and

Naively charging cgroups could result in priority inversions through the
single kworker thread in the case where multiple cgroups are
reading/writing to the same loop device. This patch series does some
minor modification to the loop driver so that each cgroup can make forward
progress independently to avoid this inversion.
With this patch series applied, the above script triggers OOM kills when
writing through the loop device as expected.
This patch (of 3):
Existing uses of loop device may have multiple cgroups reading/writing to
the same device. Simply charging resources for I/O to the backing file
could result in priority inversion where one cgroup gets synchronously
blocked, holding up all other I/O to the loop device.
In order to avoid this priority inversion, we use a single workqueue where
each work item is a "struct loop_worker" which contains a queue of struct
loop_cmds to issue. The loop device maintains a tree mapping blk css_id
-> loop_worker. This allows each cgroup to independently make forward
progress issuing I/O to the backing file.
There is also a single queue for I/O associated with the rootcg which can
be used in cases of extreme memory shortage where we cannot allocate a
loop_worker.
The locking for the tree and queues is fairly heavy handed - we acquire a
per-loop-device spinlock any time either is accessed. The existing
implementation serializes all I/O through a single thread anyways, so I
don't believe this is any worse.

With fast memory registration on write request, rnbd-clt
can do bigger IO without split. rnbd-clt now can query
rtrs-clt to get the max_segments, instead of using
BMAX_SEGMENTS.

Without calling loop_config_discard() the discard flag and parameters
aren't set/updated for the loop device and worst-case they could
indicate discard support when it isn't the case (ex: if the
LOOP_SET_STATUS ioctl was used with a different file prior to

Variable nr_sectors is set to zero but this value is never
read as it is overwritten later on, hence it is a redundant
assignment and can be removed.
Clean up the following clang-analyzer warning:
drivers/block/floppy.c:2333:2: warning: Value stored to 'nr_sectors' is
never read [clang-analyzer-deadcode.DeadStores].
