53b5e72b9d asm-generic updates for 6.4
These are various cleanups, fixing a number of uapi header files to no
 longer reference CONFIG_* symbols, and one patch that introduces the
 new CONFIG_HAS_IOPORT symbol for architectures that provide working
 inb()/outb() macros, as a preparation for adding driver dependencies
 on those in the following release.

Kconfig: introduce HAS_IOPORT option and select it as necessary
We introduce a new HAS_IOPORT Kconfig option to indicate support for I/O
Port access. In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will disable compilation of
the I/O accessor functions inb()/outb() and friends on architectures
which can not meaningfully support legacy I/O spaces such as s390.

The following architectures do not select HAS_IOPORT:

* ARC
* C-SKY
* Hexagon
* Nios II
* OpenRISC
* s390
* User-Mode Linux
* Xtensa

All other architectures select HAS_IOPORT at least conditionally.

The "depends on" relations on HAS_IOPORT in drivers as well as ifdefs
for HAS_IOPORT specific sections will be added in subsequent patches on
a per subsystem basis.

596ff4a09b cpumask: re-introduce constant-sized cpumask optimizations
Commit aa47a7c215 ("lib/cpumask: deprecate nr_cpumask_bits") resulted
in the cpumask operations potentially becoming hugely less efficient,
because suddenly the cpumask was always considered to be variable-sized.

The optimization was then later added back in a limited form by commit
6f9c07be9d ("lib/cpumask: add FORCE_NR_CPUS config option"), but that
FORCE_NR_CPUS option is not useful in a generic kernel and more of a
special case for embedded situations with fixed hardware.

Instead, just re-introduce the optimization, with some changes.

Instead of depending on CPUMASK_OFFSTACK being false, and then always
using the full constant cpumask width, this introduces three different
cpumask "sizes":

 - the exact size (nr_cpumask_bits) remains identical to nr_cpu_ids.

   This is used for situations where we should use the exact size.

 - the "small" size (small_cpumask_bits) is the NR_CPUS constant if it
   fits in a single word and the bitmap operations thus end up able
   to trigger the "small_const_nbits()" optimizations.

   This is used for the operations that have optimized single-word
   cases that get inlined, notably the bit find and scanning functions.

 - the "large" size (large_cpumask_bits) is the NR_CPUS constant if it
   is an sufficiently small constant that makes simple "copy" and
   "clear" operations more efficient.

   This is arbitrarily set at four words or less.

As a an example of this situation, without this fixed size optimization,
cpumask_clear() will generate code like

        movl    nr_cpu_ids(%rip), %edx
        addq    $63, %rdx
        shrq    $3, %rdx
        andl    $-8, %edx
        callq   memset@PLT

on x86-64, because it would calculate the "exact" number of longwords
that need to be cleared.

In contrast, with this patch, using a MAX_CPU of 64 (which is quite a
reasonable value to use), the above becomes a single

	movq $0,cpumask

instruction instead, because instead of caring to figure out exactly how
many CPU's the system has, it just knows that the cpumask will be a
single word and can just clear it all.

Note that this does end up tightening the rules a bit from the original
version in another way: operations that set bits in the cpumask are now
limited to the actual nr_cpu_ids limit, whereas we used to do the
nr_cpumask_bits thing almost everywhere in the cpumask code.

But if you just clear bits, or scan for bits, we can use the simpler
compile-time constants.

In the process, remove 'cpumask_complement()' and 'for_each_cpu_not()'
which were not useful, and which fundamentally have to be limited to
'nr_cpu_ids'. Better remove them now than have somebody introduce use
of them later.

Of course, on x86-64 with MAXSMP there is no sane small compile-time
constant for the cpumask sizes, and we end up using the actual CPU bits,
and will generate the above kind of horrors regardless. Please don't
use MAXSMP unless you really expect to have machines with thousands of
cores.

1a8d05a726 VM_FAULT_RETRY fixes
Some of the page fault handlers do not deal with the following case
 correctly:
 	* handle_mm_fault() has returned VM_FAULT_RETRY
 	* there is a pending fatal signal
 	* fault had happened in kernel mode
 Correct action in such case is not "return unconditionally" - fatal
 signals are handled only upon return to userland and something like
 copy_to_user() would end up retrying the faulting instruction and
 triggering the same fault again and again.

 What we need to do in such case is to make the caller to treat that
 as failed uaccess attempt - handle exception if there is an exception
 handler for faulting instruction or oops if there isn't one.

 Over the years some architectures had been fixed and now are handling
 that case properly; some still do not. This series should fix the
 remaining ones.

 Status:
 	m68k, riscv, hexagon, parisc: tested/acked by maintainers.
 	alpha, sparc32, sparc64: tested locally - bug has been
 reproduced on the unpatched kernel and verified to be fixed by
 this series.
 	ia64, microblaze, nios2, openrisc: build, but otherwise
 completely untested.

95207db816 Remove Intel compiler support
include/linux/compiler-intel.h had no update in the past 3 years.

We often forget about the third C compiler to build the kernel.

For example, commit a0a12c3ed0 ("asm goto: eradicate CC_HAS_ASM_GOTO")
only mentioned GCC and Clang.

init/Kconfig defines CC_IS_GCC and CC_IS_CLANG but not CC_IS_ICC,
and nobody has reported any issue.

I guess the Intel Compiler support is broken, and nobody is caring
about it.

Harald Arnesen pointed out ICC (classic Intel C/C++ compiler) is
deprecated:

    $ icc -v
    icc: remark #10441: The Intel(R) C++ Compiler Classic (ICC) is
    deprecated and will be removed from product release in the second half
    of 2023. The Intel(R) oneAPI DPC++/C++ Compiler (ICX) is the recommended
    compiler moving forward. Please transition to use this compiler. Use
    '-diag-disable=10441' to disable this message.
    icc version 2021.7.0 (gcc version 12.1.0 compatibility)

d088af1e22 ia64: fix livelock in uaccess
ia64 equivalent of 26178ec11e "x86: mm: consolidate VM_FAULT_RETRY handling"
If e.g. get_user() triggers a page fault and a fatal signal is caught, we might
end up with handle_mm_fault() returning VM_FAULT_RETRY and not doing anything
to page tables. In such case we must *not* return to the faulting insn -
that would repeat the entire thing without making any progress; what we need
instead is to treat that as failed (user) memory access.

a93e884edf Driver core changes for 6.3-rc1
Here is the large set of driver core changes for 6.3-rc1.

 There's a lot of changes this development cycle, most of the work falls
 into two different categories:
   - fw_devlink fixes and updates. This has gone through numerous review
     cycles and lots of review and testing by lots of different devices.
     Hopefully all should be good now, and Saravana will be keeping a
     watch for any potential regression on odd embedded systems.
   - driver core changes to work to make struct bus_type able to be moved
     into read-only memory (i.e. const) The recent work with Rust has
     pointed out a number of areas in the driver core where we are
     passing around and working with structures that really do not have
     to be dynamic at all, and they should be able to be read-only making
     things safer overall. This is the contuation of that work (started
     last release with kobject changes) in moving struct bus_type to be
     constant. We didn't quite make it for this release, but the
     remaining patches will be finished up for the release after this
     one, but the groundwork has been laid for this effort.

 Other than that we have in here:
   - debugfs memory leak fixes in some subsystems
   - error path cleanups and fixes for some never-able-to-be-hit
     codepaths.
   - cacheinfo rework and fixes
   - Other tiny fixes, full details are in the shortlog

 All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 problems.

67d7c3023a kbuild: remove --include-dir MAKEFLAG from top Makefile
I added $(srctree)/ to some included Makefiles in the following commits:

 - 3204a7fb98 ("kbuild: prefix $(srctree)/ to some included Makefiles")
 - d828563955 ("kbuild: do not require sub-make for separate output tree builds")

They were a preparation for removing --include-dir flag.

I have never thought --include-dir useful. Rather, it _is_ harmful.

For example, run the following commands:

  $ make -s ARCH=x86 mrproper defconfig
  $ make ARCH=arm O=foo dtbs
  make[1]: Entering directory '/tmp/linux/foo'
    HOSTCC  scripts/basic/fixdep
  Error: kernelrelease not valid - run 'make prepare' to update it
    UPD     include/config/kernel.release
  make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/linux/foo'

The first command configures the source tree for x86. The next command
tries to build ARM device trees in the separate foo/ directory - this
must stop because the directory foo/ has not been configured yet.

However, due to --include-dir=$(abs_srctree), the top Makefile includes
the wrong include/config/auto.conf from the source tree and continues
building. Kbuild traverses the directory tree, but of course it does
not work correctly. The Error message is also pointless - 'make prepare'
does not help at all for fixing the issue.

This commit fixes more arch Makefile, and finally removes --include-dir
from the top Makefile.

There are more breakages under drivers/, but I do not volunteer to fix
them all. I just moved --include-dir to drivers/Makefile.

With this commit, the second command will stop with a sensible message.

  $ make -s ARCH=x86 mrproper defconfig
  $ make ARCH=arm O=foo dtbs
  make[1]: Entering directory '/tmp/linux/foo'
    SYNC    include/config/auto.conf.cmd
  ***

234fa51db9 efi: Drop minimum EFI version check at boot
We currently pass a minimum major version to the generic EFI helper that
checks the system table magic and version, and refuse to boot if the
value is lower.

The motivation for this check is unknown, and even the code that uses
major version 2 as the minimum (ARM, arm64 and RISC-V) should make it
past this check without problems, and boot to a point where we have
access to a console or some other means to inform the user that the
firmware's major revision number made us unhappy. (Revision 2.0 of the
UEFI specification was released in January 2006, whereas ARM, arm64 and
RISC-V support where added in 2009, 2013 and 2017, respectively, so
checking for major version 2 or higher is completely arbitrary)

So just drop the check.

Since commit aa06a9bd85 ("ia64: fix clock_getres(CLOCK_MONOTONIC) to

89b3098703 arch/idle: Change arch_cpu_idle() behavior: always exit with IRQs disabled
Current arch_cpu_idle() is called with IRQs disabled, but will return
with IRQs enabled.

However, the very first thing the generic code does after calling
arch_cpu_idle() is raw_local_irq_disable(). This means that
architectures that can idle with IRQs disabled end up doing a
pointless 'enable-disable' dance.

Therefore, push this IRQ disabling into the idle function, meaning
that those architectures can avoid the pointless IRQ state flipping.

been long in the making. It is a lighterweight software-only fix for
 Skylake-based cores where enabling IBRS is a big hammer and causes a
 significant performance impact.

 What it basically does is, it aligns all kernel functions to 16 bytes
 boundary and adds a 16-byte padding before the function, objtool
 collects all functions' locations and when the mitigation gets applied,
 it patches a call accounting thunk which is used to track the call depth
 of the stack at any time.

 When that call depth reaches a magical, microarchitecture-specific value
 for the Return Stack Buffer, the code stuffs that RSB and avoids its
 underflow which could otherwise lead to the Intel variant of Retbleed.

6c0eb5ba35 ACPI: make remove callback of ACPI driver void
For bus-based driver, device removal is implemented as:
1 device_remove()->
2   bus->remove()->
3     driver->remove()

Driver core needs no inform from callee(bus driver) about the
result of remove callback. In that case, commit fc7a6209d5
("bus: Make remove callback return void") forces bus_type::remove
be void-returned.

Now we have the situation that both 1 & 2 of calling chain are
void-returned, so it does not make much sense for 3(driver->remove)
to return non-void to its caller.

So the basic idea behind this change is making remove() callback of
any bus-based driver to be void-returned.

This change, for itself, is for device drivers based on acpi-bus.

e025ab842e mm: remove kern_addr_valid() completely
Most architectures (except arm64/x86/sparc) simply return 1 for
kern_addr_valid(), which is only used in read_kcore(), and it calls
copy_from_kernel_nofault() which could check whether the address is a
valid kernel address. So as there is no need for kern_addr_valid(), let's
remove it.

57a196a584 hugetlb: simplify hugetlb handling in follow_page_mask
During discussions of this series [1], it was suggested that hugetlb
handling code in follow_page_mask could be simplified. At the beginning
of follow_page_mask, there currently is a call to follow_huge_addr which
'may' handle hugetlb pages. ia64 is the only architecture which provides
a follow_huge_addr routine that does not return error. Instead, at each
level of the page table a check is made for a hugetlb entry. If a hugetlb
entry is found, a call to a routine associated with that entry is made.

Currently, there are two checks for hugetlb entries at each page table
level. The first check is of the form:

        if (p?d_huge())
                page = follow_huge_p?d();

the second check is of the form:

        if (is_hugepd())
                page = follow_huge_pd().

We can replace these checks, as well as the special handling routines such
as follow_huge_p?d() and follow_huge_pd() with a single routine to handle
hugetlb vmas.

A new routine hugetlb_follow_page_mask is called for hugetlb vmas at the
beginning of follow_page_mask. hugetlb_follow_page_mask will use the
existing routine huge_pte_offset to walk page tables looking for hugetlb
entries. huge_pte_offset can be overwritten by architectures, and already
handles special cases such as hugepd entries.

d49a062621 arch: Introduce CONFIG_FUNCTION_ALIGNMENT
Generic function-alignment infrastructure.

Architectures can select FUNCTION_ALIGNMENT_xxB symbols; the
FUNCTION_ALIGNMENT symbol is then set to the largest such selected
size, 0 otherwise.

From this the -falign-functions compiler argument and __ALIGN macro
are set.

This incorporates the DEBUG_FORCE_FUNCTION_ALIGN_64B knob and future
alignment requirements for x86_64 (later in this series) into a single
place.

NOTE: also removes the 0x90 filler byte from the generic __ALIGN
      primitive, that value makes no sense outside of x86.

NOTE: .balign 0 reverts to a no-op.

ce697ccee1 kbuild: remove head-y syntax
Kbuild puts the objects listed in head-y at the head of vmlinux.
Conventionally, we do this for head*.S, which contains the kernel entry
point.

A counter approach is to control the section order by the linker script.
Actually, the code marked as __HEAD goes into the ".head.text" section,
which is placed before the normal ".text" section.

I do not know if both of them are needed. From the build system
perspective, head-y is not mandatory. If you can achieve the proper code
placement by the linker script only, it would be cleaner.

I collected the current head-y objects into head-object-list.txt. It is
a whitelist. My hope is it will be reduced in the long run.

3216484550 kbuild: use obj-y instead extra-y for objects placed at the head
The objects placed at the head of vmlinux need special treatments:

 - arch/$(SRCARCH)/Makefile adds them to head-y in order to place
   them before other archives in the linker command line.

 - arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile adds them to extra-y instead of
   obj-y to avoid them going into built-in.a.

This commit gets rid of the latter.

Create vmlinux.a to collect all the objects that are unconditionally
linked to vmlinux. The objects listed in head-y are moved to the head
of vmlinux.a by using 'ar m'.

With this, arch/$(SRCARCH)/kernel/Makefile can consistently use obj-y
for builtin objects.

There is no *.o that is directly linked to vmlinux. Drop unneeded code
in scripts/clang-tools/gen_compile_commands.py.

$(AR) mPi needs 'T' to workaround the llvm-ar bug. The fix was suggested
by Nathan Chancellor [1].

97c318bfbe ia64: export memory_add_physaddr_to_nid to fix cxl build error
cxl_pmem.ko uses memory_add_physaddr_to_nid() but ia64 does not export it,
