b690f8df64 net: axienet: Use iowrite64 to write all 64b descriptor pointers
According to commit f735c40ed93c ("net: axienet: Autodetect 64-bit DMA
capability") and AXI-DMA spec (pg021), on 64-bit capable dma, only
writing MSB part of tail descriptor pointer causes DMA engine to start
fetching descriptors. However, we found that it is true only if dma is in
idle state. In other words, dma would use a tailp even if it only has LSB
updated, when the dma is running.

The non-atomicity of this behavior could be problematic if enough
delay were introduced in between the 2 writes. For example, if an
interrupt comes right after the LSB write and the cpu spends long
enough time in the handler for the dma to get back into idle state by
completing descriptors, then the seconcd write to MSB would treat dma
to start fetching descriptors again. Since the descriptor next to the
one pointed by current tail pointer is not filled by the kernel yet,
fetching a null descriptor here causes a dma internal error and halt
the dma engine down.

We suggest that the dma engine should start process a 64-bit MMIO write
to the descriptor pointer only if ONE 32-bit part of it is written on all
states. Or we should restrict the use of 64-bit addressable dma on 32-bit
platforms, since those devices have no instruction to guarantee the write
to LSB and MSB part of tail pointer occurs atomically to the dma.

initial condition:
curp =  x-3;
tailp = x-2;
LSB = x;
MSB = 0;

cpu: |dma:
 iowrite32(LSB, tailp) | completes #(x-3) desc, curp = x-3
 ... | tailp updated
 => irq                    |  completes #(x-2) desc, curp = x-2
    ... | completes #(x-1) desc, curp = x-1
    ... | ...
    ... | completes #x desc, curp = tailp = x
 <= irqreturn              |  reaches tailp == curp = x, idle
 iowrite32(MSB, tailp + 4) | ...
                           | tailp updated, starts fetching...
                           | fetches #(x + 1) desc, sees cntrl = 0

00be43a74c net: axienet: make the 64b addresable DMA depends on 64b archectures
Currently it is not safe to config the IP as 64-bit addressable on 32-bit
archectures, which cannot perform a double-word store on its descriptor
pointers. The pointer is 64-bit wide if the IP is configured as 64-bit,
and the device would process the partially updated pointer on some
states if the pointer was updated via two store-words. To prevent such
condition, we force a probe fail if we discover that the IP has 64-bit
capability but it is not running on a 64-Bit kernel.

This is a series of patch (1/2). The next patch must be applied in order
to make 64b DMA safe on 64b archectures.

9e2bc267e7 net: axienet: Use NAPI for TX completion path
This driver was using the TX IRQ handler to perform all TX completion
tasks. Under heavy TX network load, this can cause significant irqs-off
latencies (found to be in the hundreds of microseconds using ftrace).
This can cause other issues, such as overrunning serial UART FIFOs when
using high baud rates with limited UART FIFO sizes.

Switch to using a NAPI poll handler to perform the TX completion work
to get this out of hard IRQ context and avoid the IRQ latency impact.
A separate poll handler is used for TX and RX since they have separate
IRQs on this controller, so that the completion work for each of them
stays on the same CPU as the interrupt.

Testing on a Xilinx MPSoC ZU9EG platform using iperf3 from a Linux PC
through a switch at 1G link speed showed no significant change in TX or
RX throughput, with approximately 941 Mbps before and after. Hard IRQ
time in the TX throughput test was significantly reduced from 12% to
below 1% on the CPU handling TX interrupts, with total hard+soft IRQ CPU
usage dropping from about 56% down to 48%.

f0cf4000f5 net: axienet: Be more careful about updating tx_bd_tail
The axienet_start_xmit function was updating the tx_bd_tail variable
multiple times, with potential rollbacks on error or invalid
intermediate positions, even though this variable is also used in the
TX completion path. Use READ_ONCE where this variable is read and
WRITE_ONCE where it is written to make this update more atomic, and
move the write before the MMIO write to start the transfer, so it is
protected by that implicit write barrier.

19c7a43912 net: axiemac: use a phandle to reference pcs_phy
In some SGMII use cases where both a fixed link external PHY and the
internal PCS/PMA PHY need to be configured, we should explicitly use a
phandle "pcs-phy" to get the reference to the PCS/PMA PHY. Otherwise, the
driver would use "phy-handle" in the DT as the reference to both the
external and the internal PCS/PMA PHY.

In other cases where the core is connected to a SFP cage, we could still
point phy-handle to the intenal PCS/PMA PHY, and let the driver connect
to the SFP module, if exist, via phylink.

in the RX ring after the packet was received, the hardware tail pointer
would still have been updated to point to or past the slot which remained

raising an error when it eventually tried to use that slot again.

If a slot cannot be refilled, then just stop processing and do not move
the tail pointer past it. On the next attempt, we should skip receiving

neatly wrap the mdiobus accessor operations. Since we are dealing with
a mdio device here, update the driver to use mdiodev_write().

2d19c3fd80 net: axienet: increase default TX ring size to 128
With previous changes to make the driver handle the TX ring size more
correctly, the default TX ring size of 64 appears to significantly
bottleneck TX performance to around 600 Mbps on a 1 Gbps link on ZynqMP.
Increasing this to 128 seems to bring performance up to near line rate and
shouldn't cause excess bufferbloat (this driver doesn't yet support modern
byte-based queue management).

bb193e3db8 net: axienet: fix for TX busy handling
Network driver documentation indicates we should be avoiding returning
NETDEV_TX_BUSY from ndo_start_xmit in normal cases, since it requires
the packets to be requeued. Instead the queue should be stopped after
a packet is added to the TX ring when there may not be enough room for an
additional one. Also, when TX ring entries are completed, we should only
wake the queue if we know there is room for another full maximally
fragmented packet.

Print a warning if there is insufficient space at the start of start_xmit,
since this should no longer happen.

Combined with increasing the default TX ring size (in a subsequent
patch), this appears to recover the TX performance lost by previous changes
to actually manage the TX ring state properly.

aba57a823d net: axienet: fix number of TX ring slots for available check
The check for the number of available TX ring slots was off by 1 since a
slot is required for the skb header as well as each fragment. This could
result in overwriting a TX ring slot that was still in use.

996defd7f8 net: axienet: Fix TX ring slot available check
The check for whether a TX ring slot was available was incorrect,
since a slot which had been loaded with transmit data but the device had
not started transmitting would be treated as available, potentially
causing non-transmitted slots to be overwritten. The control field in
the descriptor should be checked, rather than the status field (which may
only be updated when the device completes the entry).

04cc2da396 net: axienet: reset core on initialization prior to MDIO access
In some cases where the Xilinx Ethernet core was used in 1000Base-X or
SGMII modes, which use the internal PCS/PMA PHY, and the MGT
transceiver clock source for the PCS was not running at the time the
FPGA logic was loaded, the core would come up in a state where the
PCS could not be found on the MDIO bus. To fix this, the Ethernet core
(including the PCS) should be reset after enabling the clocks, prior to
attempting to access the PCS using of_mdio_find_device.

b400c2f4f4 net: axienet: Wait for PhyRstCmplt after core reset
When resetting the device, wait for the PhyRstCmplt bit to be set
in the interrupt status register before continuing initialization, to
ensure that the core is actually ready. When using an external PHY, this
also ensures we do not start trying to access the PHY while it is still
in reset. The PHY reset is initiated by the core reset which is
triggered just above, but remains asserted for 5ms after the core is
reset according to the documentation.

The MgtRdy bit could also be waited for, but unfortunately when using
7-series devices, the bit does not appear to work as documented (it
seems to behave as some sort of link state indication and not just an
indication the transceiver is ready) so it can't really be relied on for
this purpose.

7801302b9a net: xilinx: emaclite: Use platform_get_irq() to get the interrupt
platform_get_resource(pdev, IORESOURCE_IRQ, ..) relies on static
allocation of IRQ resources in DT core code, this causes an issue
when using hierarchical interrupt domains using "interrupts" property

irq chaining.

In preparation for removal of static setup of IRQ resource from DT core
