453b0c8304 media: v4l2-fwnode: fix v4l2_fwnode_parse_link handling
Currently the driver differentiate the port number property handling for
ACPI and DT. This is wrong as because ACPI should use the "reg" val too

2b48e11386 media: v4l2-mem2mem: handle draining, stopped and next-buf-is-last states
Since the draining and stop phase of the HW decoder mem2mem bahaviour is
now clearly defined, we can move handling of the following states to the
common v4l2-mem2mem core code:
- draining
- stopped
- next-buf-is-last

By introducing the following v4l2-mem2mem APIs:
- v4l2_m2m_encoder_cmd/v4l2_m2m_ioctl_encoder_cmd to handle start/stop command
- v4l2_m2m_decoder_cmd/v4l2_m2m_ioctl_decoder_cmd to handle start/stop command
- v4l2_m2m_update_start_streaming_state to update state on start of streaming
of the de/encoder queue
- v4l2_m2m_update_stop_streaming_state to update state on stop of streaming
of the de/encoder queue
- v4l2_m2m_last_buffer_done to make the current dest buffer as the last one

And inline helpers:
- v4l2_m2m_mark_stopped to mark the de/encoding process as stopped
- v4l2_m2m_clear_state to clear the de/encoding state
- v4l2_m2m_dst_buf_is_last to detect the current dequeued dst_buf is the last
- v4l2_m2m_has_stopped to detect the de/encoding stopped state
- v4l2_m2m_is_last_draining_src_buf to detect the current source buffer should
be the last processing before stopping the de/encoding process

The special next-buf-is-last when min_buffers != 1 case is also handled
in v4l2_m2m_qbuf() by reusing the other introduced APIs.

This state management has been stolen from the vicodec implementation,
and is no-op for drivers not calling the v4l2_m2m_encoder_cmd or
v4l2_m2m_decoder_cmd and v4l2_m2m_update_start/stop_streaming_state.

The vicodec will be the first one to be converted as an example.

2fae4d6aab media: v4l2-ctrls: v4l2_ctrl_request_complete() should always set ref->req
When the request is completed, all controls are copied to the request object.
However, when VIDIOC_G_EXT_CTRLS attempts to read control values from the
request it will read the current value instead for any control reference that
has a NULL ref->req pointer. But that's wrong: after completing the request
*all* controls should have a non-NULL ref->req pointer since they are after
all copied to the request.

So set ref->req if it wasn't set already.

aead0ffbf0 media: v4l2-core: fix entity initialization in device_register_subdev
The entity variable was being initialized in the wrong place, before the
parameters have been checked.
To solve this, completely removed the entity variable and replaced it
with the initialization value : &sd->entity.
This will avoid dereferencing 'sd' pointer before it's being checked if
it's NULL.

8fd390b89c media: Split v4l2_pipeline_pm_use into v4l2_pipeline_pm_{get, put}
Currently, v4l2_pipeline_pm_use() prototype is:

int v4l2_pipeline_pm_use(struct media_entity *entity, int use)

Where the 'use' argument shall only be set to '1' for enable/power-on,
or to '0' for disable/power-off. The integer return is specified
as only meaningful when 'use' is set to '1'.

Let's enforce this semantic by splitting the function in two:
v4l2_pipeline_pm_get and v4l2_pipeline_pm_put. This is done
for several reasons.

It makes the API easier to use (or harder to misuse).
It removes the constraint on the values the 'use' argument
shall take. Also, it removes the need to constraint
the return value, by making v4l2_pipeline_pm_put void return.

And last, it's more consistent with other kernel APIs, such
as the runtime pm APIs, which makes the code more symmetric.

238e4a5baa media: rename VFL_TYPE_GRABBER to _VIDEO
We currently have the following devnode types:

enum vfl_devnode_type {
        VFL_TYPE_GRABBER        = 0,
        VFL_TYPE_VBI,
        VFL_TYPE_RADIO,
        VFL_TYPE_SUBDEV,
        VFL_TYPE_SDR,
        VFL_TYPE_TOUCH,
VFL_TYPE_MAX /* Shall be the last one */
};

They all make sense, except for the first: GRABBER really refers to /dev/videoX
devices, which can be capture, output or m2m, so 'grabber' doesn't even refer to
their function anymore.

Let's call a spade a spade and rename this to VFL_TYPE_VIDEO.

The topology that v4l2_m2m_register_media_controller() creates for a

unpin_user_pages*() calls, and the API is a lot closer to being

3c7470b6f6 media/v4l2-core: set pages dirty upon releasing DMA buffers
After DMA is complete, and the device and CPU caches are synchronized,
it's still required to mark the CPU pages as dirty, if the data was
coming from the device. However, this driver was just issuing a bare
put_page() call, without any set_page_dirty*() call.

Fix the problem, by calling set_page_dirty_lock() if the CPU pages were
potentially receiving data from the device.

342027c5de media: v4l2-core: fix compat v4l2_buffer handling for time64 ABI
Add support for the four new variants of ioctl commands for 64-bit time_t
in v4l2_buffer.

The existing v4l2_buffer32 structure for the traditional format gets
changed to match the new v4l2_buffer format, and the old layout is
now called v4l2_buffer32_time32. Neither of these matches the native
64-bit architecture format of v4l2_buffer, so both require special
handling in compat code.

Duplicating the existing handlers for the new types is a safe conversion
for now, but unfortunately this may turn into a maintenance burden
later. A larger-scale rework of the compat code might be a better
alternative, but is out of scope of the y2038 work.

Note: x32 support for v4l2_buffer32 has always been broken and remains
so after this change, fixing it would have required even more duplication,
and apparently nobody has cared so far.

9983b2daf1 media: v4l2-core: fix compat VIDIOC_DQEVENT for time64 ABI
The native code supports the variant of struct v4l2_event for 64-bit
time_t, so add the compat version as well.

Here, a new incompatibility arises: while almost all 32-bit architectures
now use the same layout as 64-bit architectures and the commands can
simply be passed through, on x86 the internal alignment of v4l2_event
is different because of the 64-bit member in v4l2_event_ctrl.

To handle all architectures, this now requires defining four different
versions of the structure to cover all possible combinations. The compat
handling for VIDIOC_DQEVENT32 and VIDIOC_DQEVENT32_TIME32 is now inside
of an #ifdef so it does not get used on architectures other than x86.

when that gets updated to a 64-bit time_t.

As in v4l2_event, handle this with a special case in video_put_user()
and video_get_user() to replace the memcpy there.

Since the structure also contains a pointer, there are now two
native versions (on 32-bit systems) as well as two compat versions
(on 64-bit systems), which unfortunately complicates the compat
handler quite a bit.

Duplicating the existing handlers for the new types is a safe
conversion for now, but unfortunately this may turn into a
maintenance burden later. A larger-scale rework of the
compat code might be a better alternative, but is out of scope
of the y2038 work.

Sparc64 needs a special case because of their special suseconds_t
definition.

1a6c0b36dd media: v4l2-core: fix VIDIOC_DQEVENT for time64 ABI
The v4l2_event structure contains a 'struct timespec' member that is
defined by the user space C library, creating an ABI incompatibility
when that gets updated to a 64-bit time_t.

While passing a 32-bit time_t here would be sufficient for CLOCK_MONOTONIC
timestamps, simply redefining the structure to use the kernel's
__kernel_old_timespec would not work for any library that uses a copy
of the linux/videodev2.h header file rather than including the copy from
the latest kernel headers.

This means the kernel has to be changed to handle both versions of the
structure layout on a 32-bit architecture. The easiest way to do this
is during the copy from/to user space.

4a873f3fa5 media: v4l2-core: compat: ignore native command codes
The do_video_ioctl() compat handler converts the compat command
codes into the native ones before processing further, but this
causes problems for 32-bit user applications that pass a command
code that matches a 64-bit native number, which will then be
handled the same way.

Specifically, this breaks VIDIOC_DQEVENT_TIME from user space
applications with 64-bit time_t, as the structure layout is
the same as the native 64-bit layout on many architectures
(x86 being the notable exception).

Change the handler to use the converted command code only for
passing into the native ioctl handler, not for deciding on the
conversion, in order to make the compat behavior match the
native behavior.

Actual support for the 64-bit time_t version of VIDIOC_DQEVENT_TIME
and other commands still needs to be added in a separate patch.

These two helpers may already return NULL on error, so callers
should already be checking for this, or at least be prepared
for a NULL result.

videodev.ko and v4l2-common.ko driver are built under
the same conditions. Therefore, it doesn't make much sense

Splitting v4l2-common to its own driver was done many years ago:

  commit a9254475bb
  Author: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
  Date: Tue Jan 29 18:32:35 2008 -0300

      V4L/DVB (7115): Fix bug #9833: regression when compiling V4L without I2C

Back then, the subsystem organization was different and the module split
was needed. However, with the current organization, there is no issue
compiling V4L2 with I2C as y/m/n.

This commit makes v4l2-common part of our V4L2 core driver (videodev.ko).

putting the fwnode to be added if there was an error.

As the reference is eventually released during the notifier cleanup, this

when the function succeeds, and the caller releasing the reference when it
does not *itself* need it anymore.

Luckily, perhaps, there were just a handful of callers using the function.

When reaching the end of stream, V4L2 m2m clients may expect the
V4L2_EOS_EVENT. Although the V4L2_EOS_EVENT is deprecated behavior,
drivers must signal that event before dequeuing the buffer that has the
V4L2_BUF_FLAG_LAST flag set.

If a driver queues the V4L2_EOS_EVENT event and returns the buffer after
the check for events but before the check for buffers, vb2_m2m_poll()
will signal that the buffer with V4L2_BUF_FLAG_LAST can be read but not
that the V4L2_EOS_EVENT is available.

Split the check for buffers into a separate function and check for
available buffers before checking for events. This ensures that if
vb2_m2m_poll() signals POLLIN | POLLRDNORM for the V4L2_BUF_FLAG_LAST
buffer, it signals POLLPRI for the V4L2_EOS_EVENT, too.

a8fa55078a media: v4l2-subdev: Verify arguments in v4l2_subdev_call()
Correctness of format type (try or active) and pad number parameters
passed to subdevice operation callbacks is now verified only for IOCTL
calls. However, those callbacks are also used by drivers, e.g., V4L2
host interfaces.

Since both subdev_do_ioctl() and drivers are using v4l2_subdev_call()
macro while calling subdevice operations, move those parameter checks
from subdev_do_ioctl() to v4l2_subdev_call() so we can avoid taking care
of those checks inside drivers.

Define a wrapper function for each operation callback in scope, then
gather those wrappers in a static v4l2_subdev_ops structure so the
v4l2_subdev_call() macro can find them easy if provided.

2f39cce963 media: remove redundant 'default n' from Kconfig-s
'default n' is the default value for any bool or tristate Kconfig
setting so there is no need to write it explicitly.

Also since commit f467c5640c ("kconfig: only write '# CONFIG_FOO
is not set' for visible symbols") the Kconfig behavior is the same
regardless of 'default n' being present or not:

    ...
One side effect of (and the main motivation for) this change is making
the following two definitions behave exactly the same:

        config FOO
                bool

        config FOO
                bool
                default n

With this change, neither of these will generate a
'# CONFIG_FOO is not set' line (assuming FOO isn't selected/implied).
That might make it clearer to people that a bare 'default n' is
    redundant.

932f4a630a mm/gup: replace get_user_pages_longterm() with FOLL_LONGTERM
Pach series "Add FOLL_LONGTERM to GUP fast and use it".

HFI1, qib, and mthca, use get_user_pages_fast() due to its performance
advantages. These pages can be held for a significant time. But
get_user_pages_fast() does not protect against mapping FS DAX pages.

Introduce FOLL_LONGTERM and use this flag in get_user_pages_fast() which
retains the performance while also adding the FS DAX checks. XDP has also
shown interest in using this functionality.[1]

In addition we change get_user_pages() to use the new FOLL_LONGTERM flag
and remove the specialized get_user_pages_longterm call.

[1] https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/3/19/939

"longterm" is a relative thing and at this point is probably a misnomer.
This is really flagging a pin which is going to be given to hardware and
can't move. I've thought of a couple of alternative names but I think we
have to settle on if we are going to use FL_LAYOUT or something else to
solve the "longterm" problem. Then I think we can change the flag to a
better name.

Secondly, it depends on how often you are registering memory. I have
spoken with some RDMA users who consider MR in the performance path...
For the overall application performance. I don't have the numbers as the
tests for HFI1 were done a long time ago. But there was a significant
advantage. Some of which is probably due to the fact that you don't have
to hold mmap_sem.

Finally, architecturally I think it would be good for everyone to use
*_fast. There are patches submitted to the RDMA list which would allow
the use of *_fast (they reworking the use of mmap_sem) and as soon as they
are accepted I'll submit a patch to convert the RDMA core as well. Also
to this point others are looking to use *_fast.

As an aside, Jasons pointed out in my previous submission that *_fast and
*_unlocked look very much the same. I agree and I think further cleanup
will be coming. But I'm focused on getting the final solution for DAX at
the moment.

This patch (of 7):

This patch starts a series which aims to support FOLL_LONGTERM in
get_user_pages_fast(). Some callers who would like to do a longterm (user
controlled pin) of pages with the fast variant of GUP for performance
purposes.

Rather than have a separate get_user_pages_longterm() call, introduce
FOLL_LONGTERM and change the longterm callers to use it.

This patch does not change any functionality. In the short term
"longterm" or user controlled pins are unsafe for Filesystems and FS DAX
in particular has been blocked. However, callers of get_user_pages_fast()
were not "protected".

FOLL_LONGTERM can _only_ be supported with get_user_pages[_fast]() as it
requires vmas to determine if DAX is in use.

NOTE: In merging with the CMA changes we opt to change the
get_user_pages() call in check_and_migrate_cma_pages() to a call of
__get_user_pages_locked() on the newly migrated pages. This makes the
code read better in that we are calling __get_user_pages_locked() on the
pages before and after a potential migration.

As a side affect some of the interfaces are cleaned up but this is not the
primary purpose of the series.

In review[1] it was asked:

<quote>
> This I don't get - if you do lock down long term mappings performance
> of the actual get_user_pages call shouldn't matter to start with.
>
> What do I miss?

A couple of points.

First "longterm" is a relative thing and at this point is probably a
misnomer. This is really flagging a pin which is going to be given to
hardware and can't move. I've thought of a couple of alternative names
but I think we have to settle on if we are going to use FL_LAYOUT or
something else to solve the "longterm" problem. Then I think we can
change the flag to a better name.

Second, It depends on how often you are registering memory. I have spoken
with some RDMA users who consider MR in the performance path... For the
overall application performance. I don't have the numbers as the tests
for HFI1 were done a long time ago. But there was a significant

218bf10e39 media: v4l2-subdev: handle module refcounting here
The module ownership refcounting was done in media_entity_get/put,
but that was very confusing and it did not work either in case an

unbound. When the v4l-subdevX device was closed the media_entity_put
was never called and the module refcount was left one too high, making
it impossible to unload it.

Since v4l2-subdev.c was the only place where media_entity_get/put was
called, just move the functionality to v4l2-subdev.c and drop those
confusing entity functions.

Store the module in subdev_fh so module_put no longer depends on

If a stream is stopped, or if a USERPTR/DMABUF buffer is queued

So keep track of a 'copied_timestamp' state: it is set when the

96d4f267e4 Remove 'type' argument from access_ok() function
Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.

It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.

A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.

This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.

There were a couple of notable cases:

 - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.

 - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
   really used it)

 - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout

but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.

I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

ee494cf377 media: v4l2-device: Link subdevices to their parent devices if available
Currently v4l2_device_register_subdev_nodes() does not initialize the
dev_parent field of the video_device structs it creates for subdevices
being registered. This leads to __video_register_device() falling back
to the parent device of associated v4l2_device struct, which often does
not match the physical device the subdevice is registered for.

Due to the problem above, the links between real devices and v4l-subdev
nodes cannot be obtained from sysfs, which might be confusing for the
userspace trying to identify the hardware.

Fix this by initializing the dev_parent field of the video_device struct
with the value of dev field of the v4l2_subdev struct. In case of
subdevices without a parent struct device, the field will be NULL and the
old behavior will be preserved by the semantics of
__video_register_device().

cbd9463da1 media: v4l2-mem2mem: Avoid calling .device_run in v4l2_m2m_job_finish
v4l2_m2m_job_finish() is typically called when
DMA operations complete, in interrupt handlers or DMA
completion callbacks. Calling .device_run from v4l2_m2m_job_finish
creates a nasty re-entrancy path into the driver.

Moreover, some implementation of .device_run might need to sleep,
as is the case for drivers supporting the Request API,
where controls are applied via v4l2_ctrl_request_setup,
which takes the ctrl handler mutex.

This commit adds a deferred context that calls v4l2_m2m_try_run,
and gets scheduled by v4l2_m2m_job_finish().

Before this change, device_run would be called from these
paths:

vb2_m2m_request_queue, or
v4l2_m2m_streamon, or
v4l2_m2m_qbuf
  v4l2_m2m_try_schedule
    v4l2_m2m_try_run
      .device_run

v4l2_m2m_job_finish
  v4l2_m2m_try_run
    .device_run

After this change, the latter is now gone and instead:

v4l2_m2m_device_run_work
  v4l2_m2m_try_run
    .device_run

The Samsung drivers do the opposite. Note that these drivers predate

have an odd number of __u8 headers, but are aligned to 32 bit in the

 "A new media request API

This API is needed to support device drivers that can dynamically
change their parameters for each new frame. The latest versions of
Google camera and codec HAL depends on such feature.

At this stage, it supports only stateless codecs.

It has been discussed for a long time (at least over the last 3-4
years), and we finally reached to something that seem to work.

This series contain both the API and core changes required to support
it and a new m2m decoder driver (cedrus).

As the current API is still experimental, the only real driver using
it (cedrus) was added at staging[1]. We intend to keep it there for a
while, in order to test the API. Only when we're sure that this API
works for other cases (like encoders), we'll move this driver out of
staging and set the API into a stone.

[1] We added support for the vivid virtual driver (used only for
testing) to it too, as it makes easier to test the API for the ones
that don't have the cedrus hardware"

c1e630559f media: v4l2-fwnode: cleanup functions that parse endpoints
There is already a typedef for the parse endpoint function.
However, instead of using it, it is redefined at the C file

Replace them by the function typedef, in order to cleanup

eae2aed1ea media: v4l2-fwnode: Switch to v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev
The fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions in v4l2-fwnode.c
are modified to make use of v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev().
As a result the notifier->subdevs array is no longer allocated or
re-allocated, and by extension the max_subdevs value is also no
longer needed.

Callers of the fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions must now
first initialize the notifier with a call to v4l2_async_notifier_init().
This includes the function v4l2_async_register_subdev_sensor_common(),
and the intel-ipu3, omap3isp, and rcar-vin drivers.

Since the notifier->subdevs array is no longer allocated in the
fwnode endpoint and reference parsing functions, the callers of
those functions must never reference that array, since it is now
NULL. Of the drivers that make use of the fwnode/ref parsing,
only the intel-ipu3 driver references the ->subdevs[] array,
(in the notifier completion callback), so that driver has been
modified to iterate through the notifier->asd_list instead.

b47d7ff1ae media: v4l2: async: Add v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev
v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev() adds an asd to the notifier. It checks
that no other equivalent asd's have already been added to this notifier's
asd list, or to other registered notifier's waiting or done lists, and
increments num_subdevs.

v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev() does not make use of the notifier subdevs
array, otherwise it would have to re-allocate the array every time the
function was called. In place of the subdevs array, the function adds
the newly allocated asd to a new master asd_list. The function will
return error with a WARN() if it is ever called with the subdevs array
allocated.

Drivers are now required to call a v4l2_async_notifier_init(), before the
first call to v4l2_async_notifier_add_subdev(), in order to initialize
the asd_list.

In v4l2_async_notifier_has_async_subdev(), __v4l2_async_notifier_register(),
and v4l2_async_notifier_cleanup(), maintain backward compatibility with
the subdevs array, by alternatively operate on the subdevs array or a

c1a37dd5e8 media: v4l2: taint pads with the signal types for consumer devices
Consumer devices are provided with a wide different range of types
supported by the same driver, allowing different configutations.

In order to make easier to setup media controller links, "taint"
pads with the signal type it carries.

While here, get rid of DEMOD_PAD_VBI_OUT, as the signal it carries

The difference happens at the video/VBI interface:
	- for VBI, only the hidden lines are streamed;
	- for video, the stream is usually cropped to hide the

For mem2mem devices we have to make sure that v4l2_m2m_try_schedule()
is called whenever a request is queued.

We do that by creating a vb2_m2m_request_queue() helper that should
be used instead of the 'normal' vb2_request_queue() helper. The m2m
helper function will call v4l2_m2m_try_schedule() as needed.

In addition we also avoid calling v4l2_m2m_try_schedule() when preparing
or queueing a buffer for a request since that is no longer needed.
Instead this helper function will do that when the request is actually
queued.

Integrate the request support. This adds the v4l2_ctrl_request_complete
and v4l2_ctrl_request_setup functions to complete a request and (as a

It takes care of queuing requests and correctly chaining control values
in the request queue.

Note that when a request is marked completed it will copy control values
to the internal request state. This can be optimized in the future since
this is sub-optimal when dealing with large compound and/or array controls.

For the initial 'stateless codec' use-case the current implementation is
sufficient.
