Error reporting interrupt is very useful to notify users that some
errors are detected by the hardware. Once users are notified, they
could query hardware logged error states, no need to continuously
poll on these states.
This patch adds interrupt support for port error reporting sub feature.
It follows the common DFL interrupt notification and handling mechanism,
implements two ioctl commands below for user to query number of irqs
supported, and set/unset interrupt triggers.
Ioctls:
* DFL_FPGA_PORT_ERR_GET_IRQ_NUM
get the number of irqs, which is used to determine whether/how many
interrupts error reporting feature supports.
* DFL_FPGA_PORT_ERR_SET_IRQ
set/unset given eventfds as error interrupt triggers.

FPGA user applications may be interested in interrupts generated by
DFL features. For example, users can implement their own FPGA
logics with interrupts enabled in AFU (Accelerated Function Unit,
dynamic region of DFL based FPGA). So user applications need to be
notified to handle these interrupts.
In order to allow userspace applications to monitor interrupts,
driver requires userspace to provide eventfds as interrupt
notification channels. Applications then poll/select on the eventfds
to get notified.
This patch introduces a generic helper functions to do eventfds binding
with given interrupts.
Sub feature drivers are expected to use XXX_GET_IRQ_NUM to query irq
info, and XXX_SET_IRQ to set eventfds for interrupts. This patch also
introduces helper functions for these 2 ioctls.

Some DFL FPGA PCIe cards (e.g. Intel FPGA Programmable Acceleration

to prepare and pass interrupt resources to DFL via enumeration API.

DFL based FPGA devices could support interrupts for different purposes,
but current DFL framework only supports feature device enumeration with
given MMIO resources information via common DFL headers. This patch
introduces one new API dfl_fpga_enum_info_add_irq for low level bus
drivers (e.g. PCIe device driver) to pass its interrupt resources
information to DFL framework for enumeration, and also adds interrupt
enumeration code in framework to parse and assign interrupt resources
for enumerated feature devices and their own sub features.
With this patch, DFL framework enumerates interrupt resources for core
features, including PORT Error Reporting, FME (FPGA Management Engine)
Error Reporting and also AFU User Interrupts.

The INIT_B pin reports the status during startup and after the end of the
programming process. However the current driver completely ignores it.
Check the pin status during startup to make sure programming is never
started too early and also to detect any hardware issues in the FPGA
connection.
This is optional for backward compatibility. If INIT_B is not passed by
device tree, just fallback to the old udelays.

This code was using get_user_pages_fast(), in a "Case 2" scenario
(DMA/RDMA), using the categorization from [1]. That means that it's
time to convert the get_user_pages_fast() + put_page() calls to
pin_user_pages_fast() + unpin_user_pages() calls.
There is some helpful background in [2]: basically, this is a small
part of fixing a long-standing disconnect between pinning pages, and
file systems' use of those pages.

To ensure this is done correctly, also fix the Kconfig dependency
to only allow building the fpga driver when the firmware driver is
either disabled, or when it is reachable. With that, the dependency
on the SoC itself can be removed, and there are no surprises when
the fpga driver is built-in but the firmware a module.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

Each DFL functional block, e.g. AFU (Accelerated Function Unit) and FME
(FPGA Management Engine), could implement more than one function within
its region, but current driver only allows one user application to access
it by exclusive open on device node. So this is not convenient and
flexible for userspace applications, as they have to combine lots of
different functions into one single application.
This patch removes the limitation here to allow multiple opens to each
feature device node for AFU and FME from userspace applications. If user
still needs exclusive access to these device node, O_EXCL flag must be

This patch adds support to thermal management private feature for DFL
FPGA Management Engine (FME). This private feature driver registers
a hwmon for thermal/temperature monitoring (hwmon temp1_input).
If hardware automatic throttling is supported by this hardware, then
driver also exposes sysfs interfaces under hwmon for thresholds
(temp1_max/ crit/ emergency), threshold alarms (temp1_max_alarm/
temp1_crit_alarm) and throttling policy (temp1_max_policy).

As has been happening in previous releases, more and more individual
driver subsystem trees are ending up in here. Now if that is good or
bad I can't tell, but hopefully it makes your life easier as it's more
of an aggregation of trees together to one merge point for you.

Pull LED updates from Jacek Anaszewski:
"In this cycle we've finally managed to contribute the patch set
sorting out LED naming issues. Besides that there are many changes
scattered among various LED class drivers and triggers.
LED naming related improvements:
- add new 'function' and 'color' fwnode properties and deprecate
'label' property which has been frequently abused for conveying
vendor specific names that have been available in sysfs anyway
- introduce a set of standard LED_FUNCTION* definitions
- introduce a set of standard LED_COLOR_ID* definitions
- add a new {devm_}led_classdev_register_ext() API with the
capability of automatic LED name composition basing on the
properties available in the passed fwnode; the function is
backwards compatible in a sense that it uses 'label' data, if
present in the fwnode, for creating LED name
- add tools/leds/get_led_device_info.sh script for retrieving LED
vendor, product and bus names, if applicable; it also performs
basic validation of an LED name
- update following drivers and their DT bindings to use the new LED
registration API:
- leds-an30259a, leds-gpio, leds-as3645a, leds-aat1290, leds-cr0014114,
leds-lm3601x, leds-lm3692x, leds-lp8860, leds-lt3593, leds-sc27xx-blt
Other LED class improvements:
- replace {devm_}led_classdev_register() macros with inlines
- allow to call led_classdev_unregister() unconditionally
- switch to use fwnode instead of be stuck with OF one
LED triggers improvements:
- led-triggers:
- fix dereferencing of null pointer
- fix a memory leak bug
- ledtrig-gpio:
- GPIO 0 is valid
Drop superseeded apu2/3 support from leds-apu since for apu2+ a newer,
more complete driver exists, based on a generic driver for the AMD
SOCs gpio-controller, supporting LEDs as well other devices:
- drop profile field from priv data
- drop iosize field from priv data
- drop enum_apu_led_platform_types
- drop superseeded apu2/3 led support
- add pr_fmt prefix for better log output
- fix error message on probing failure
Other misc fixes and improvements to existing LED class drivers:
- leds-ns2, leds-max77650:
- add of_node_put() before return
- leds-pwm, leds-is31fl32xx:
- use struct_size() helper
- leds-lm3697, leds-lm36274, leds-lm3532:

- leds-lm3532:
- fix brightness control for i2c mode

- fixes for the driver for stability
- add full scale current configuration
- dt: Add property for full scale current.

In order to support virtualization usage via PCIe SRIOV, this patch
adds two ioctls under FPGA Management Engine (FME) to release and
assign back the port device. In order to safely turn Port from PF
into VF and enable PCIe SRIOV, it requires user to invoke this
PORT_RELEASE ioctl to release port firstly to remove userspace
interfaces, and then configure the PF/VF access register in FME.
After disable SRIOV, it requires user to invoke this PORT_ASSIGN
ioctl to attach the port back to PF.
Ioctl interfaces:
* DFL_FPGA_FME_PORT_RELEASE
Release platform device of given port, it deletes port platform
device to remove related userspace interfaces on PF. After this
function, then it's safe to configure PF/VF access mode to VF,
and enable VFs via SRIOV.
* DFL_FPGA_FME_PORT_ASSIGN
Assign platform device of given port back to PF. After configure
PF/VF access mode to PF, this ioctl adds port platform device
back to re-enable related userspace interfaces on PF.

Here is the "big" driver core and debugfs changes for 5.3-rc1
It's a lot of different patches, all across the tree due to some api
changes and lots of debugfs cleanups. Because of this, there is going
to be some merge issues with your tree at the moment, I'll follow up
with the expected resolutions to make it easier for you.
Other than the debugfs cleanups, in this set of changes we have:
- bus iteration function cleanups (will cause build warnings
with s390 and coresight drivers in your tree)
- scripts/get_abi.pl tool to display and parse Documentation/ABI
entries in a simple way
- cleanups to Documenatation/ABI/ entries to make them parse
easier due to typos and other minor things
- default_attrs use for some ktype users
- driver model documentation file conversions to .rst
- compressed firmware file loading
- deferred probe fixes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with a bunch of merge
issues that Stephen has been patient with me for. Other than the merge
issues, functionality is working properly in linux-next :)

Current driver checks if input bitstream file size is aligned or
not per PR data width (default 32bits). It requires one additional
step for end user when they generate the bitstream file, padding
extra zeros to bitstream file to align its size per PR data width,
but they don't have to as hardware will drop extra padding bytes
automatically.
In order to simplify the user steps, this patch aligns PR buffer
size per PR data width in driver, to allow user to pass unaligned
size bitstream files to driver.

Another round of SPDX header file fixes for 5.2-rc4
These are all more "GPL-2.0-or-later" or "GPL-2.0-only" tags being
added, based on the text in the files. We are slowly chipping away at
the 700+ different ways people tried to write the license text. All of
these were reviewed on the spdx mailing list by a number of different

We now have over 60% of the kernel files covered with SPDX tags:
$ ./scripts/spdxcheck.py -v 2>&1 | grep Files
Files checked: 64533

To facilitate additional options to get_user_pages_fast() change the
singular write parameter to be gup_flags.
This patch does not change any functionality. New functionality will
follow in subsequent patches.
Some of the get_user_pages_fast() call sites were unchanged because they
already passed FOLL_WRITE or 0 for the write parameter.
NOTE: It was suggested to change the ordering of the get_user_pages_fast()
arguments to ensure that callers were converted. This breaks the current
GUP call site convention of having the returned pages be the final
parameter. So the suggestion was rejected.

After finding a "firmware" dt node stratix10 tries to match it's
compatible string with it. To do so it's calling of_find_matching_node()
which already takes care of decreasing the refcount on the "firmware"
node. We are then incorrectly decreasing the refcount on that node
again.
This patch removes the unwarranted call to of_node_put().

Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.
It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.
A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.
This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.
There were a couple of notable cases:
- csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.
- the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
really used it)
- microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout
but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.
I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

These two ioctls allow user space applications to map user memory regions
for dma, and unmap them after use. Iova is returned from driver to user

In some cases, other DFL driver modules may need to access some port
operations, e.g. disable / enable port for partial reconfiguration in
FME module. In order to avoid dependency between port and FME modules,
this patch introduces the dfl_fpga_port_ops support in DFL framework.
A global dfl_fpga_port_ops list is added in the DFL framework, and
it allows other DFL modules to use these port operations registered
to this list, even in virtualization case, the port platform device
is turned into VF / guest VM and hidden in host, the registered
port_ops is still usable. It resolves the dependency issues between
modules, but once get port ops API returns a valid port ops, that
means related port driver module has been module_get to prevent from
unexpected unload, and put port ops API must be invoked after use.
These APIs introduced by this patch is listed below:
* dfl_fpga_port_ops_add
add one port ops to the global list.
* dfl_fpga_port_ops_del
del one port ops from the global list.
* dfl_fpga_port_ops_get / dfl_fpga_port_ops_put

Device Feature List (DFL) defines a feature list structure that creates
a linked list of feature headers within the MMIO space to provide an
extensible way of adding features. This patch introduces a kernel module
to provide basic infrastructure to support FPGA devices which implement
the Device Feature List.
Usually there will be different features and their sub features linked into
the DFL. This code provides common APIs for feature enumeration, it creates
a container device (FPGA base region), walks through the DFLs and creates
platform devices for feature devices (Currently it only supports two
different feature devices, FPGA Management Engine (FME) and Port which
the Accelerator Function Unit (AFU) connected to). In order to enumerate
the DFLs, the common APIs required low level driver to provide necessary
enumeration information (e.g. address for each device feature list for
given device) and fill it to the dfl_fpga_enum_info data structure. Please
refer to below description for APIs added for enumeration.
Functions for enumeration information preparation:
*dfl_fpga_enum_info_alloc
allocate enumeration information data structure.
*dfl_fpga_enum_info_add_dfl
add a device feature list to dfl_fpga_enum_info data structure.
*dfl_fpga_enum_info_free
free dfl_fpga_enum_info data structure and related resources.
Functions for feature device enumeration:
*dfl_fpga_feature_devs_enumerate
enumerate feature devices and return container device.
*dfl_fpga_feature_devs_remove
remove feature devices under given container device.

In most cases this other symbol is an architecture or platform specific

dependencies on HAS_DMA, to prevent compiling subsystems or drivers that
cannot work anyway.

When DT overlays are applied, each FPGA region keeps track of the fpga
image info as region->info. This pointer is assigned only if an
overlay causes the FPGA to be programmed. As it stands, this pointer
can be overwritten, causing a slow warning later when overlays are
removed.
This patch fixes this by changing the allowed behaviour. If a region
has received an overlay that programmed the FPGA, reject other
overlays that try to program the FPGA. To reprogram the FPGA, first
remove the overlay. This makes sense as removing the overlay also
removes the devices cleanly. Note that overlays that make DT changes
without reprogramming the FPGA are exempt from this restriction.

fpga-mgr has three methods for programming FPGAs, depending on
whether the image is in a scatter gather list, a contiguous
buffer, or a firmware file. This makes it difficult to write
upper layers as the caller has to assume whether the FPGA image
is in a sg table, as a single buffer, or a firmware file.
This commit moves these parameters to struct fpga_image_info
and adds a single function for programming fpgas.
New functions:
* fpga_mgr_load - given fpga manager and struct fpga_image_info,
program the fpga.
* fpga_image_info_alloc - alloc a struct fpga_image_info.
* fpga_image_info_free - free a struct fpga_image_info.
These three functions are unexported:
* fpga_mgr_buf_load_sg
* fpga_mgr_buf_load
* fpga_mgr_firmware_load
Also use devm_kstrdup to copy firmware_name so we aren't making
assumptions about where it comes from when allocing/freeing the
struct fpga_image_info.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

There is no sense in sending a bitstream we know will not work, and
with the variety of options for bitstream generation in Xilinx tools
it is not terribly clear what the correct input should be.
This is particularly important for Zynq since auto-correction was
removed from the driver and the Zynq hardware only accepts a bitstream
format that is different from what the Xilinx tools typically produce.
Worse, the hardware provides no indication why the bitstream fails,
it simply times out if the input is wrong.
The best option here is to have the kernel print a message informing
the user they are using a malformed bistream and programming failure
isn't for any of the myriad of other reasons.

This patch adds a minor change in the FPGA Manager API
to hold information that is specific to an FPGA image
file. This change is expected to bring little, if any,
pain. The socfpga and zynq drivers are fixed up in
this patch.
An FPGA image file will have particulars that affect how the
image is programmed to the FPGA. One example is that
current 'flags' currently has one bit which shows whether the
FPGA image was built for full reconfiguration or partial
reconfiguration. Another example is timeout values for
enabling or disabling the bridges in the FPGA. As the
complexity of the FPGA design increases, the bridges in the
FPGA may take longer times to enable or disable.
This patch adds a new 'struct fpga_image_info', moves the
current 'u32 flags' to it. Two other image-specific u32's
are added for the bridge enable/disable timeouts. The FPGA
Manager API functions are changed, replacing the 'u32 flag'
parameter with a pointer to struct fpga_image_info.
Subsequent patches fix the existing low level FPGA manager
drivers.

While building m32r allmodconfig the build is failing with the error:
ERROR: "bad_dma_ops" [drivers/fpga/zynq-fpga.ko] undefined!
Xilinx Zynq FPGA is using DMA but there was no dependency while
building.

If fpga_mgr_buf_load() fails, the firmware resource previously allocated
by request_firmware() is leaked. Fix it by calling release_firmware()
regardless of the return value of fpga_mgr_buf_load().

Upon registering a FPGA Manager low level driver, FPGA Manager
core overwrites the platform drvdata pointer. Prior to this commit
zynq-fpga falsely relied on this pointer to still be valid at remove()
time.

Remove unnecessary null pointer checks. We want the caller of
these functions to do their own pointer checks. Add some
comments to document this.

Ensure device and driver lifetime from of_fpga_mgr_get() to
fpga_mgr_put().
* Don't put_device() in of_fpga_mgr_get, do it in fpga_mgr_put().
(still do put_device if there is an error).
* Do module_get on the low level driver.
* Don't need to module_get(THIS_MODULE) since we won't be allowed
to unload the fpga manager core without unloading low level
driver first.
* Remove unnedessary null check for node pointer.

API to support programming FPGA's.
The following functions are exported as GPL:
* fpga_mgr_buf_load
Load fpga from image in buffer
* fpga_mgr_firmware_load
Request firmware and load it to the FPGA.
* fpga_mgr_register
* fpga_mgr_unregister
FPGA device drivers can be added by calling
fpga_mgr_register() to register a set of
fpga_manager_ops to do device specific stuff.
* of_fpga_mgr_get
* fpga_mgr_put
Get/put a reference to a fpga manager.
The following sysfs files are created:
* /sys/class/fpga_manager/<fpga>/name
Name of low level driver.
* /sys/class/fpga_manager/<fpga>/state
State of fpga manager
