Here is the big set of tty and serial driver changes for 6.6-rc1.
Lots of cleanups in here this cycle, and some driver updates. Short
summary is:
- Jiri's continued work to make the tty code and apis be a bit more
sane with regards to modern kernel coding style and types
- cpm_uart driver updates
- n_gsm updates and fixes
- meson driver updates
- sc16is7xx driver updates
- 8250 driver updates for different hardware types
- qcom-geni driver fixes
- tegra serial driver change
- stm32 driver updates
- synclink_gt driver cleanups
- tty structure size reduction
All of these have been in linux-next this week with no reported issues.
The last bit of cleanups from Jiri and the tty structure size reduction
came in last week, a bit late but as they were just style changes and
size reductions, I figured they should get into this merge cycle so that
others can work on top of them with no merge conflicts.

Merge tag 'v6.6-vfs.fchmodat2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs
Pull fchmodat2 system call from Christian Brauner:
"This adds the fchmodat2() system call. It is a revised version of the
fchmodat() system call, adding a missing flag argument. Support for
both AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW and AT_EMPTY_PATH are included.
Adding this system call revision has been a longstanding request but
so far has always fallen through the cracks. While the kernel
implementation of fchmodat() does not have a flag argument the libc
provided POSIX-compliant fchmodat(3) version does. Both glibc and musl
have to implement a workaround in order to support AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW
(see [1] and [2]).
The workaround is brittle because it relies not just on O_PATH and
O_NOFOLLOW semantics and procfs magic links but also on our rather
inconsistent symlink semantics.
This gives userspace a proper fchmodat2() system call that libcs can
use to properly implement fchmodat(3) and allows them to get rid of
their hacks. In this case it will immediately benefit them as the
current workaround is already defunct because of aformentioned
inconsistencies.
In addition to AT_SYMLINK_NOFOLLOW, give userspace the ability to use
AT_EMPTY_PATH with fchmodat2(). This is already possible with
fchownat() so there's no reason to not also support it for
fchmodat2().
The implementation is simple and comes with selftests. Implementation
of the system call and wiring up the system call are done as separate
patches even though they could arguably be one patch. But in case
there are merge conflicts from other system call additions it can be
beneficial to have separate patches"

EXPORT_SYMBOL and __init is a bad combination because the .init.text
section is freed up after the initialization.
Commit c5a130325f ("ACPI/APEI: Add parameter check before error
injection") exported page_is_ram(), hence the __init annotation should
be removed.
This fixes the modpost warning in ARCH=alpha builds:

The passed parameter to sysrq handlers is a key (a character). So change
the type from 'int' to 'u8'. Let it specifically be 'u8' for two
reasons:
* unsigned: unsigned values come from the upper layers (devices) and the
tty layer assumes unsigned on most places, and
* 8-bit: as that what's supposed to be one day in all the layers built
on the top of tty. (Currently, we use mostly 'unsigned char' and
somewhere still only 'char'. (But that also translates to the former
thanks to -funsigned-char.))

Before commit 076cbf5d2163 ("x86/xen: don't let xen_pv_play_dead()
return"), in Xen, when a previously offlined CPU was brought back
online, it unexpectedly resumed execution where it left off in the
middle of the idle loop.
There were some hacks to make that work, but the behavior was surprising
as do_idle() doesn't expect an offlined CPU to return from the dead (in
arch_cpu_idle_dead()).
Now that Xen has been fixed, and the arch-specific implementations of
arch_cpu_idle_dead() also don't return, give it a __noreturn attribute.
This will cause the compiler to complain if an arch-specific
implementation might return. It also improves code generation for both
caller and callee.
Also fixes the following warning:
vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: do_idle+0x25f: unreachable instruction

On each context switch we save the FPU registers on stack
of old process and restore FPU registers from the stack of new one.
That allows us to avoid doing that each time we enter/leave the
kernel mode; however, that can get suboptimal in some cases.
For one thing, we don't need to bother saving anything
for kernel threads. For another, if between entering and leaving
the kernel a thread gives CPU up more than once, it will do
useless work, saving the same values every time, only to discard
the saved copy as soon as it returns from switch_to().
Alternative solution:
* move the array we save into from switch_stack to thread_info
* have a (thread-synchronous) flag set when we save them
* have another flag set when they should be restored on return to userland.
* do *NOT* save/restore them in do_switch_stack()/undo_switch_stack().
* restore on the exit to user mode if the restore flag had
been set. Clear both flags.
* on context switch, entry to fork/clone/vfork, before entry into do_signal()
and on entry into straced syscall save the registers and set the 'saved' flag
unless it had been already set.
* on context switch set the 'restore' flag as well.
* have copy_thread() set both flags for child, so the registers would be
restored once the child returns to userland.
* use the saved data in setup_sigcontext(); have restore_sigcontext() set both flags
and copy from sigframe to save area.
* teach ptrace to look for FPU registers in thread_info instead of
switch_stack.
* teach isolated accesses to FPU registers (rdfpcr, wrfpcr, etc.)
to check the 'saved' flag (under preempt_disable()) and work with the save area
if it's been set; if 'saved' flag is found upon write access, set 'restore' flag
as well.

Type 3 instruction fault (FPU insn with FPU disabled) is handled
by quietly enabling FPU and returning. Which is fine, except that
we need to do that both for fault in userland and in the kernel;
the latter *can* legitimately happen - all it takes is this:
.global _start
_start:
call_pal 0xae
lda $0, 0
ldq $0, 0($0)
- call_pal CLRFEN to clear "FPU enabled" flag and arrange for
a signal delivery (SIGSEGV in this case).
Fixed by moving the handling of type 3 into the common part of
do_entIF(), before we check for kernel vs. user mode.
Incidentally, check for kernel mode is unidiomatic; the normal
way to do that is !user_mode(regs). The difference is that
the open-coded variant treats any of bits 63..3 of regs->ps being
set as "it's user mode" while the normal approach is to check just
the bit 3. PS is a 4-bit register and regs->ps always will have
bits 63..4 clear, so the open-code variant here is actually equivalent
to !user_mode(regs). Harder to follow, though...
Reproducer above will crash any box where CLRFEN is not ignored by
PAL (== any actual hardware, AFAICS; PAL used in qemu doesn't
bother implementing that crap).

Previously, R_ALPHA_LITERAL relocations would overflow for large kernel
modules.
This was because the Alpha's apply_relocate_add was relying on the kernel's
module loader to have sorted the GOT towards the very end of the module as it
was mapped into memory in order to correctly assign the global pointer. While
this behavior would mostly work fine for small kernel modules, this approach
would overflow on kernel modules with large GOT's since the global pointer
would be very far away from the GOT, and thus, certain entries would be out of
range.
This patch fixes this by instead using the Tru64 behavior of assigning the
global pointer to be 32KB away from the start of the GOT. The change made
in this patch won't work for multi-GOT kernel modules as it makes the
assumption the module only has one GOT located at the beginning of .got,
although for the vast majority kernel modules, this should be fine. Of the
kernel modules that would previously result in a relocation error, none of
them, even modules like nouveau, have even come close to filling up a single
GOT, and they've all worked fine under this patch.

Current arch_cpu_idle() is called with IRQs disabled, but will return
with IRQs enabled.
However, the very first thing the generic code does after calling
arch_cpu_idle() is raw_local_irq_disable(). This means that
architectures that can idle with IRQs disabled end up doing a
pointless 'enable-disable' dance.
Therefore, push this IRQ disabling into the idle function, meaning
that those architectures can avoid the pointless IRQ state flipping.

- call_pal CLRFEN to clear "FPU enabled" flag and arrange for
a signal delivery (SIGSEGV in this case).
Fixed by moving the handling of type 3 into the common part of
do_entIF(), before we check for kernel vs. user mode.
Incidentally, the check for kernel mode is unidiomatic; the normal
way to do that is !user_mode(regs). The difference is that
the open-coded variant treats any of bits 63..3 of regs->ps being
set as "it's user mode" while the normal approach is to check just
the bit 3. PS is a 4-bit register and regs->ps always will have
bits 63..4 clear, so the open-coded variant here is actually equivalent
to !user_mode(regs). Harder to follow, though...

Don't bother with pointless macros - we are not sharing it with aout coredumps
anymore. Just convert the underlying functions to the same arguments (nobody
uses regs, actually) and call them elf_core_copy_task_fpregs(). And unexport
the entire bunch, while we are at it.

$ret_success consists of two insn + branch to ret_from_syscall.
The thing is, those insns are identical to the ones immediately
preceding ret_from_syscall...

For successful syscall that happens to return a negative, we want
a3 set to 0, no matter whether it's straced or not. As it is,
for straced case we leave the value it used to have on syscall
entry. Easily fixed, fortunately...

We only want to take the slow path if SYSCALL_TRACE or SYSCALL_AUDIT is
set; on !AUDIT_SYSCALL configs the current tree hits it whenever _any_
thread flag (including NEED_RESCHED, NOTIFY_SIGNAL, etc.) happens to
be set.
