Commit 06300b21f4 ("kbuild: support building individual files for
external modules") introduced the '/' target. It works only for
external modules to build all .o files, but skip the modpost stage.
However, 'make /' looks a bit weird to me. 'make ./' is more sensible
if you want to build all objects under the current directory, and it
works as expected.
Let's change '/' into a phony target that is an alias of './', but
I may feel like deprecating it in the future.

Add devicetree binding for HI3670 UFS controller. HI3760 SoC is very
similar to HI3660 SoC with almost same IPs. Only major difference in terms
of UFS is the PHY. HI3670 has 10nm PHY. But since the original driver
(HI3660 UFS) cannot make HI3670 UFS functional, a separate compatible
is added for HI3670 without any fallback.

The extended-controls.rst file had become too big. Split it up: each
control class reference gets its own rst file, and this file just
describes the Extended Control API.
Each control class reference is also moved up one level into the
table of contents to make it easier to find e.g. the codec control
reference.
Finally I rearranged the order so that all camera-related control
classes are grouped together, ditto for codec/jpeg and fm-rx/tx.
The ext-ctrls-codec.rst is still pretty big and it is a candidate
to split up further in the future, possibly per codec.

This patch add the sysfs and hwmon entries that are exposed by the driver.
Goya has several sensors, from various categories such as temperature,
voltage, current, etc. The driver exposes those sensors in the standard
hwmon mechanism.
In addition, the driver exposes a couple of interfaces in sysfs, both for
configuration and for providing status of the device or driver.
The configuration attributes is for Power Management:
- Automatic or manual
- Frequency value when moving to high frequency mode
- Maximum power the device is allowed to consume
The rest of the attributes are read-only and provide the following
information:
- Versions of the various firmwares running on the device
- Contents of the device's EEPROM
- The device type (currently only Goya is supported)
- PCI address of the device (to allow user-space to connect between
/dev/hlX to PCI address)
- Status of the device (operational, malfunction, in_reset)
- How many processes are open on the device's file

Enabling of large number of functions by echoing in a large subset of the
functions in available_filter_functions can take a very long time. The
process requires testing all functions registered by the function tracer
(which is in the 10s of thousands), and doing a kallsyms lookup to convert
the ip address into a name, then comparing that name with the string passed
in.
When a function causes the function tracer to crash the system, a binary
bisect of the available_filter_functions can be done to find the culprit.
But this requires passing in half of the functions in
available_filter_functions over and over again, which makes it basically a
O(n^2) operation. With 40,000 functions, that ends up bing 1,600,000,000
opertions! And enabling this can take over 20 minutes.
As a quick speed up, if a number is passed into one of the filter files,
instead of doing a search, it just enables the function at the corresponding
line of the available_filter_functions file. That is:

for 5.1, please pull the following:
- Stefan updates the BCM2835 SoC driver with downstream properties and
uses that to implement a reboot notifier to tell the VC4 firmware when
Linux on the ARM CPU is rebooting
- Eric adds a proper power domain driver for the BCM283x SoCs and
updates a bunch of drivers to have a better and clearer Device Tree
definition to support power domains/breaking up of functionality. This
requires converting the existing watchdog driver into a MFD and then
breaking up the functionality into separate drivers and finally
updating the DTS files to leverage the power domains information.

There is a new reset driver for the Broadcom STB reset controller and
the i.MX7 system reset controller driver is extended to support i.MX8MQ
as well. Finally, there is a new header with reset id constants for
the Meson G12A SoC, which has a reset controller identical to Meson AXG

Counter values for per-channel interrupts and ring buffer full
conditions are useful for investigating performance.
Expose counters in sysfs for 2 types of guest to host interrupts:
1) Interrupts caused by the channel's outbound ring buffer transitioning
from empty to not empty
2) Interrupts caused by the channel's inbound ring buffer transitioning
from full to not full while a packet is waiting for enough buffer space to
become available
Expose 2 counters in sysfs for the number of times that write operations
encountered a full outbound ring buffer:
1) The total number of write operations that encountered a full
condition
2) The number of write operations that were the first to encounter a
full condition
Increment the outbound full condition counters in the
hv_ringbuffer_write() function because, for most drivers, a full
outbound ring buffer is detected in that function. Also increment the
outbound full condition counters in the set_channel_pending_send_size()
function. In the hv_sock driver, a full outbound ring buffer is detected
and set_channel_pending_send_size() is called before
hv_ringbuffer_write() is called.
I tested this patch by confirming that the sysfs files were created and
observing the counter values. The values seemed to increase by a
reasonable amount when the Hyper-v related drivers were in use.

at24 updates for v5.1
- finally remove legacy platform data as all users have been switched
to using device properties and nvmem notifier chain
- add support for the 'num-addresses' property
Add ROHM BD71837 / BD71847 specific device tree bindings for
controlling the PMIC shutdown/reset states and voltages for
different HW states. The PMIC was designed to be used with NXP
i.MX8 SoC and it supports SNVS low power state which seems to
be typical for NXP i.MX SoCs. However, when SNVS is used we must
not allow SW to control enabling/disabling those regulators which
are crucial for system to boot as there is a HW limitation which
causes SW controlled regulators to be kept shut down after SNVS
reset.
Allow setting the SNVS to be used as reset target state and allow
marking those regulators which are critical for boot.

Asynchronous driver probing can help much on kernel fastboot, and
this option can provide a flexible way to optimize and quickly verify
async driver probe.
Also it will help in below cases:
* Some driver actually covers several families of HWs, some of which
could use async probing while others don't. So we can't simply
turn on the PROBE_PREFER_ASYNCHRONOUS flag in driver, but use this
cmdline option, like igb driver async patch discussed at
https://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg545986.html
* For SOC (System on Chip) with multiple spi or i2c controllers, most
of the slave spi/i2c devices will be assigned with fixed controller
number, while async probing may make those controllers get different
index for each boot, which prevents those controller drivers to be
async probed. For platforms not using these spi/i2c slave devices,
they can use this cmdline option to benefit from the async probing.

Currently the at24 driver only creates additional i2c dummies for
atmel,24c00 and it's hard-coded. Some other chips (like for example
Microchip's 24AA02T) also take more slave addresses despite being
otherwise compatible with already supported variants.
Add a new property to the device tree binding document that defines
the total number of i2c slave addresses taken by the device. The
addresses are counted starting from the one in the reg property.

This commit extends the flags that can be used in GPIO specifiers to
indicate if a pull-up resistor or pull-down resistor should be
enabled.
While some pinctrl DT bindings already offer the capability of
configuring pull-up/pull-down resistors at the pin level, a number of
simple GPIO controllers don't have any pinmuxing capability, and
therefore do not rely on the pinctrl DT bindings.
Such simple GPIO controllers however sometimes allow to configure
pull-up and pull-down resistors on a per-pin basis, and whether such
resistors should be enabled or not is a highly board-specific HW
characteristic.
By using two additional bits of the GPIO flag specifier, we can easily
allow the Device Tree to describe which GPIOs should have their
pull-up or pull-down resistors enabled. Even though the two options
are mutually exclusive, we still need two bits to encode at least
three states: no pull-up/pull-down, pull-up, pull-down.

While building arm32 allyesconfig, I ran into the following errors:
arch/arm/lib/xor-neon.c:17:2: error: You should compile this file with
'-mfloat-abi=softfp -mfpu=neon'
In file included from lib/raid6/neon1.c:27:
/home/nathan/cbl/prebuilt/lib/clang/8.0.0/include/arm_neon.h:28:2:
error: "NEON support not enabled"
Building V=1 showed NEON_FLAGS getting passed along to Clang but
__ARM_NEON__ was not getting defined. Ultimately, it boils down to Clang
only defining __ARM_NEON__ when targeting armv7, rather than armv6k,
which is the '-march' value for allyesconfig.
>From lib/Basic/Targets/ARM.cpp in the Clang source:
// This only gets set when Neon instructions are actually available, unlike
// the VFP define, hence the soft float and arch check. This is subtly
// different from gcc, we follow the intent which was that it should be set
// when Neon instructions are actually available.
if ((FPU & NeonFPU) && !SoftFloat && ArchVersion >= 7) {
Builder.defineMacro("__ARM_NEON", "1");
Builder.defineMacro("__ARM_NEON__");
// current AArch32 NEON implementations do not support double-precision
// floating-point even when it is present in VFP.
Builder.defineMacro("__ARM_NEON_FP",
"0x" + Twine::utohexstr(HW_FP & ~HW_FP_DP));
}
Ard Biesheuvel recommended explicitly adding '-march=armv7-a' at the
beginning of the NEON_FLAGS definitions so that __ARM_NEON__ always gets
definined by Clang. This doesn't functionally change anything because
that code will only run where NEON is supported, which is implicitly
armv7.

The original MODULE_LICENSE string for kernel modules licensed under the
GPL v2 (only / or later) was simply "GPL", which was - and still is -
completely sufficient for the purpose of module loading and checking
whether the module is free software or proprietary.
In January 2003 this was changed with commit 3344ea3ad4b7 ("[PATCH]
MODULE_LICENSE and EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL support"). This commit can be found in
the history git repository which holds the 1:1 import of Linus' bitkeeper
repository:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tglx/history.git/commit/?id=3344ea3ad4b7c302c846a680dbaeedf96ed45c02
The main intention of the patch was to refuse linking proprietary modules
against symbols exported with EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL() at module load time.
As a completely undocumented side effect it also introduced the distinction
between "GPL" and "GPL v2" MODULE_LICENSE() strings:
* "GPL" [GNU Public License v2 or later]
* "GPL v2" [GNU Public License v2]
* "GPL and additional rights" [GNU Public License v2 rights and more]
* "Dual BSD/GPL" [GNU Public License v2
* or BSD license choice]
* "Dual MPL/GPL" [GNU Public License v2
* or Mozilla license choice]
This distinction was and still is wrong in several aspects:
1) It broke all modules which were using the "GPL" string in the
MODULE_LICENSE() already and were licensed under GPL v2 only.
A quick license scan over the tree at that time shows that at least 480
out of 1484 modules have been affected by this change back then. The
number is probably way higher as this was just a quick check for
clearly identifiable license information.
There was exactly ONE instance of a "GPL v2" module license string in
the kernel back then - drivers/net/tulip/xircom_tulip_cb.c which
otherwise had no license information at all. There is no indication
that the change above is any way related to this driver. The change
happend with the 2.4.11 release which was on Oct. 9 2001 - so quite
some time before the above commit. Unfortunately there is no trace on
the intertubes to any discussion of this.
2) The dual licensed strings became ill defined as well because following
the "GPL" vs. "GPL v2" distinction all dual licensed (or additional
rights) MODULE_LICENSE strings would either require those dual licensed
modules to be licensed under GPL v2 or later or just be unspecified for
the dual licensing case. Neither choice is coherent with the GPL
distinction.
Due to the lack of a proper changelog and no real discussion on the patch
submission other than a few implementation details, it's completely unclear
why this distinction was introduced at all. Other than the comment in the
module header file exists no documentation for this at all.
From a license compliance and license scanning POV this distinction is a
total nightmare.
As of 5.0-rc2 2873 out of 9200 instances of MODULE_LICENSE() strings are
conflicting with the actual license in the source code (either SPDX or
license boilerplate/reference). A comparison between the scan of the
history tree and a scan of current Linus tree shows to the extent that the
git rename detection over Linus tree grafted with the history tree is
halfways complete that almost none of the files which got broken in 2003
have been cleaned up vs. the MODULE_LICENSE string. So subtracting those
480 known instances from the conflicting 2800 of today more than 25% of the
module authors got it wrong and it's a high propability that a large
portion of the rest just got it right by chance.
There is no value for the module loader to convey the detailed license
information as the only decision to be made is whether the module is free
software or not.
The "and additional rights", "BSD" and "MPL" strings are not conclusive
license information either. So there is no point in trying to make the GPL
part conclusive and exact. As shown above it's already non conclusive for
dual licensing and incoherent with a large portion of the module source.
As an unintended side effect this distinction causes a major headache for
license compliance, license scanners and the ongoing effort to clean up the
license mess of the kernel.
Therefore remove the well meant, but ill defined, distinction between "GPL"
and "GPL v2" and document that:
- "GPL" and "GPL v2" both express that the module is licensed under GPLv2
(without a distinction of 'only' and 'or later') and is therefore kernel
license compliant.
- None of the MODULE_LICENSE strings can be used for expressing or
determining the exact license
- Their sole purpose is to decide whether the module is free software or
not.
Add a MODULE_LICENSE subsection to the license rule documentation as well.

If you look at the bindings for the UFS Host Controller it says:
- compatible: must contain "jedec,ufs-1.1" or "jedec,ufs-2.0", may
also list one or more of the following:
"qcom,msm8994-ufshc"
"qcom,msm8996-ufshc"
"qcom,ufshc"
My reading of that is that it's fine to just have either of these:
1. "qcom,msm8996-ufshc", "jedec,ufs-2.0"
2. "qcom,ufshc", "jedec,ufs-2.0"
As far as I can tell neither of the above is actually a good idea.
For #1 it turns out that the driver currently only keys off the
compatible string "qcom, ufshc" so it won't actually probe.
For #2 the driver won't probe but it's not a good idea to keep the SoC
name out of the compatible string.
Let's update the compatible string to make it really explicit. We'll
include a nod to the existing driver and the old binding and say that
we should always include the "qcom, ufshc" string in addition to the
SoC compatible string.
While we're at it we'll also include another example SoC known to have
UFS: sdm845.

While typing these I think doing an s/component_master/aggregate/

- it's shorter :-)
- I think component/aggregate is much more meaningful naming than
component/puppetmaster or something like that. At least to my
English ear "aggregate" emphasizes much more the "assemble a pile of
things into something bigger" aspect, and there's not really much
of a control hierarchy between aggregate and constituing components.
But that's way more than a quick doc typing exercise ...

If device_link_add() is called twice in a row to create a stateless
device link for the same consumer-supplier pair without an attempt
to delete the link between these calls, and the second caller passes
DL_FLAG_RPM_ACTIVE to it in flags, calling either device_link_del()
or device_link_remove() immediately after that will leave the link's
supplier device with nonzero PM-runtime usage counter, which may
prevent the supplier from being runtime-suspended going forward
until the link is deleted by another invocation of device_link_del()

Compared to the RFC[1] no changes to the patch itself, but igt moved
forward a lot:
- gitlab CI builds with: reduced configs/libraries, arm cross build
and a sysroot build (should address all the build/cross platform
concerns raised in the RFC discussions).
- tests reorganized into subdirectories so that the i915-gem tests
don't clog the main/shared tests directory anymore
- quite a few more non-intel people contributing/reviewing/committing
igt tests patches.
I think this addresses all the concerns raised in the RFC discussions,
and assuming there's enough Acks and no new issues that pop up, we can
go ahead with this.
v2:
- Use "should" (in the usual RFC sense) to make it clear that in the
end this is all up to reviewer's discretion, as usual (Jani).
- Also in the title s/mandatory/strongly suggested/ (me)
- Make it clear we're not going to block features if a testcase is not
feasible, given hw and state of igt, both having some good gaps in
what can be tested (Harry, Eric, Sean, ...).

This adds clk_get_optional() and devm_clk_get_optional() functions to get

They behave the same as (devm_)clk_get() except where there is no clock
producer. In this case, instead of returning -ENOENT, the function
returns NULL. This makes error checking simpler and allows
clk_prepare_enable, etc to be called on the returned reference

This differs slightly from the IDR equivalent in five ways.
1. It can allocate up to UINT_MAX instead of being limited to INT_MAX,
like xa_alloc(). Also like xa_alloc(), it will write to the 'id'
pointer before placing the entry in the XArray.
2. The 'next' cursor is allocated separately from the XArray instead
of being part of the IDR. This saves memory for all the users which
do not use the cyclic allocation API and suits some users better.
3. It returns -EBUSY instead of -ENOSPC.
4. It will attempt to wrap back to the minimum value on memory allocation
failure as well as on an -EBUSY error, assuming that a user would
rather allocate a small ID than suffer an ID allocation failure.
5. It reports whether it has wrapped, which is important to some users.
Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox <willy@infradead.org>
A lot of places want to allocate IDs starting at 1 instead of 0.
While the xa_alloc() API supports this, it's not very efficient if lots
of IDs are allocated, due to having to walk down to the bottom of the
tree to see if ID 1 is available, then all the way over to the next
non-allocated ID. This method marks ID 0 as being occupied which wastes
one slot in the XArray, but preserves xa_empty() as working.

Move the x86 EFI earlyprintk implementation to a shared location under
drivers/firmware and tweak it slightly so we can expose it as an earlycon
implementation (which is generic) rather than earlyprintk (which is only
implemented for a few architectures)
This also involves switching to write-combine mappings by default (which
is required on ARM since device mappings lack memory semantics, and so
memcpy/memset may not be used on them), and adding support for shared
memory framebuffers on cache coherent non-x86 systems (which do not
tolerate mismatched attributes).
Note that 32-bit ARM does not populate its struct screen_info early
enough for earlycon=efifb to work, so it is disabled there.

commit 3fb72f1e6e ("ipconfig wait for carrier") added a

of two minutes.
Now make the wait for carrier timeout configurable on the kernel
commandline and use the 120s as the default.
The timeout messages introduced with
commit 5e404cd658 ("ipconfig: add informative timeout messages while
waiting for carrier") are done in a fixed interval of 20 seconds, just
like they were before (240/12).

Add two new ptrace regsets, which can be used to request and change the
pointer authentication keys of a thread. NT_ARM_PACA_KEYS gives access
to the instruction/data address keys, and NT_ARM_PACG_KEYS to the
generic authentication key. The keys are also part of the core dump file
of the process.
The regsets are only exposed if the kernel is compiled with
CONFIG_CHECKPOINT_RESTORE=y, as the only intended use case is
checkpointing and restoring processes that are using pointer
authentication. (This can be changed later if there are other use
cases.)

Add a new device link flag, DL_FLAG_AUTOPROBE_CONSUMER, to request the
driver core to probe for a consumer driver automatically after binding
a driver to the supplier device on a persistent managed device link.
As unbinding the supplier driver on a managed device link causes the
consumer driver to be detached from its device automatically, this
flag provides a complementary mechanism which is needed to address
some "composite device" use cases.

Even though stateful device links are managed by the driver core in
principle, their creators are allowed and sometimes even expected
to drop references to them via device_link_del() or
device_link_remove(), but that doesn't really play well with the
"persistent" link concept.
If "persistent" managed device links are created from driver
probe callbacks, device_link_add() called to do that will take a
new reference on the link each time the callback runs and those
references will never be dropped, which kind of isn't nice.
This issues arises because of the link reference counting carried
out by device_link_add() for existing links, but that is only done to
avoid deleting device links that may still be necessary, which
shouldn't be a concern for managed (stateful) links. These device
links are managed by the driver core and whoever creates one of them
will need it at least as long as until the consumer driver is detached
from its device and deleting it may be left to the driver core just
fine.
For this reason, rework device_link_add() to apply the reference
counting to stateless links only and make device_link_del() and
device_link_remove() drop references to stateless links only too.
After this change, if called to add a stateful device link for
a consumer-supplier pair for which a stateful device link is
present already, device_link_add() will return the existing link
without incrementing its reference counter. Accordingly,
device_link_del() and device_link_remove() will WARN() and do
nothing when called to drop a reference to a stateful link. Thus,
effectively, all stateful device links will be owned by the driver
core.
In addition, clean up the handling of the link management flags,
DL_FLAG_AUTOREMOVE_CONSUMER and DL_FLAG_AUTOREMOVE_SUPPLIER, so that
(a) they are never set at the same time and (b) if device_link_add()
is called for a consumer-supplier pair with an existing stateful link
between them, the flags of that link will be combined with the flags
passed to device_link_add() to ensure that the life time of the link
is sufficient for all of the callers of device_link_add() for the
same consumer-supplier pair.
Update the device_link_add() kerneldoc comment to reflect the
above changes.

Currently, it is not valid to add a device link from a consumer
driver ->probe callback to a supplier that is still probing too, but
generally this is a valid use case. For example, if the consumer has
just acquired a resource that can only be available if the supplier
is functional, adding a device link to that supplier right away
should be safe (and even desirable arguably), but device_link_add()
doesn't handle that case correctly and the initial state of the link
created by it is wrong then.
To address this problem, change the initial state of device links
added between a probing supplier and a probing consumer to
DL_STATE_CONSUMER_PROBE and update device_links_driver_bound() to
skip such links on the supplier side.
With this change, if the supplier probe completes first,
device_links_driver_bound() called for it will skip the link state
update and when it is called for the consumer, the link state will
be updated to "active". In turn, if the consumer probe completes
first, device_links_driver_bound() called for it will change the
state of the link to "active" and when it is called for the
supplier, the link status update will be skipped.
However, in principle the supplier or consumer probe may still fail
after the link has been added, so modify device_links_no_driver() to
change device links in the "active" or "consumer probe" state to
"dormant" on the supplier side and update __device_links_no_driver()
to change the link state to "available" only if it is "consumer
probe" or "active".
Then, if the supplier probe fails first, the leftover link to the
probing consumer will become "dormant" and device_links_no_driver()
called for the consumer (when its probe fails) will clean it up.
In turn, if the consumer probe fails first, it will either drop the
link, or change its state to "available" and, in the latter case,
when device_links_no_driver() is called for the supplier, it will
update the link state to "dormant". [If the supplier probe fails,
but the consumer probe succeeds, which should not happen as long as
the consumer driver is correct, the link still will be around, but
it will be "dormant" until the supplier is probed again.]
