8250_of supports a reg-offset property which is intended to handle
cases where the device registers start at an offset inside the region
of memory allocated to the device. The Xilinx 16550 UART, for which this
support was initially added, requires this. However, the code did not
adjust the overall size of the mapped region accordingly, causing the
driver to request an area of memory past the end of the device's
allocation. For example, if the UART was allocated an address of
0xb0130000, size of 0x10000 and reg-offset of 0x1000 in the device
tree, the region of memory reserved was b0131000-b0140fff, which caused
the driver for the region starting at b0140000 to fail to probe.
Fix this by subtracting reg-offset from the mapped region size.

There is a build error when using a kernel .config file from
'kernel test robot' for a different build problem:

The upstream commit 5f76895e4c71 ("serial: sh-sci: Fix late enablement of
AUTORTS") inserted a new call to .set_mctrl().
However the backported version in stable (commit ad3faea03fdf ("serial:
sh-sci: Fix late enablement of AUTORTS")) does not insert it at the same
position.
This patch moves the added instructions back to where they should be
according to the upsteam patch.

struct uart_port contains a cached copy of the Modem Control signals.
It is used to skip register writes in uart_update_mctrl() if the new
signal state equals the old signal state. It also avoids a register
read to obtain the current state of output signals.
When a uart_port is registered, uart_configure_port() changes signal
state but neglects to keep the cached copy in sync. That may cause
a subsequent register write to be incorrectly skipped. Fix it before
it trips somebody up.
This behavior has been present ever since the serial core was introduced
in 2002:

So far it was never an issue because the cached copy is initialized to 0
by kzalloc() and when uart_configure_port() is executed, at most DTR has
been set by uart_set_options() or sunsu_console_setup(). Therefore,
a stable designation seems unnecessary.

pl010_set_termios() briefly resets the CR register to zero.
Where does this register write come from?
The PL010 driver's IRQ handler ambauart_int() originally modified the CR
register without holding the port spinlock. ambauart_set_termios() also
modified that register. To prevent concurrent read-modify-writes by the
IRQ handler and to prevent transmission while changing baudrate,
ambauart_set_termios() had to disable interrupts. That is achieved by
writing zero to the CR register.
However in 2004 the PL010 driver was amended to acquire the port
spinlock in the IRQ handler, obviating the need to disable interrupts in
->set_termios():

With commit 3873e2d7f63a ("drivers: PL011: refactor pl011_probe()") the
function devm_ioremap() called from pl011_setup_port() was replaced with
devm_ioremap_resource(). Since this function not only remaps but also
requests the ports io memory region it now collides with the .config_port()
callback which requests the same region at uart port registration.
Since devm_ioremap_resource() already claims the memory successfully, the
request in .config_port() fails.
Later at uart port deregistration the attempt to release the unclaimed
memory also fails. The failure results in a “Trying to free nonexistent
resource" warning.
Fix these issues by removing the callbacks that implement the redundant
memory allocation/release. Also make sure that changing the drivers io
memory base address via TIOCSSERIAL is not allowed any more.

The driver wrongly assummed that tx_submit() will start the transfer,
which is not the case, now that the at_xdmac driver is fixed. tx_submit
is supposed to push the current transaction descriptor to a pending queue,
waiting for issue_pending to be called. issue_pending must start the
transfer, not tx_submit.

The tx_submit() method of struct dma_async_tx_descriptor is entitled
to do sanity checks and return errors if encountered. It's not the
case for the DMA controller drivers that this client is using
(at_h/xdmac), because they currently don't do sanity checks and always
return a positive cookie at tx_submit() method. In case the controller
drivers will implement sanity checks and return errors, print a message
so that the client will be informed that something went wrong at
tx_submit() level.

Commit 761ed4a94582 ("tty: serial_core: convert uart_close to use
tty_port_close") converted serial core to use tty_port_close() but
failed to notice that the transmit buffer still needs to be freed on
final close.
Not freeing the transmit buffer means that the buffer is no longer
cleared on next open so that any ioctl() waiting for the buffer to drain
might wait indefinitely (e.g. on termios changes) or that stale data can
end up being transmitted in case tx is restarted.
Furthermore, the buffer of any port that has been opened would leak on
driver unbind.
Note that the port lock is held when clearing the buffer pointer due to
the ldisc race worked around by commit a5ba1d95e46e ("uart: fix race
between uart_put_char() and uart_shutdown()").
Also note that the tty-port shutdown() callback is not called for
console ports so it is not strictly necessary to free the buffer page
after releasing the lock (cf. d72402145ace ("tty/serial: do not free
trasnmit buffer page under port lock")).

The document 'ACPI for Arm Components 1.0' defines the following
_HID mappings:
-'Prime cell UART (PL011)': ARMH0011
-'SBSA UART': ARMHB000
Use the sbsa-uart driver when a device is described with
the 'ARMHB000' _HID.
Note:
PL011 devices currently use the sbsa-uart driver instead of the
uart-pl011 driver. Indeed, PL011 devices are not bound to a clock
in ACPI. It is not possible to change their baudrate.

The CONSOLE_POLLING mode is used for tools like k(g)db. In this kind of
setup, it is often sharing a serial device with the normal system console.
This is usually no problem because the polling helpers can consume input
values directly (when in kgdb context) and the normal Linux handlers can
only consume new input values after kgdb switched back.
This is not true anymore when RX DMA is enabled for UARTDM controllers.
Single input values can no longer be received correctly. Instead following
seems to happen:
* on 1. input, some old input is read (continuously)
* on 2. input, two old inputs are read (continuously)
* on 3. input, three old input values are read (continuously)
* on 4. input, 4 previous inputs are received
This repeats then for each group of 4 input values.
This behavior changes slightly depending on what state the controller was
when the first input was received. But this makes working with kgdb
basically impossible because control messages are always corrupted when
kgdboc tries to parse them.
RX DMA should therefore be off when CONSOLE_POLLING is enabled to avoid
these kind of problems. No such problem was noticed for TX DMA.

xilinx_uartps .start_tx() clears TXEMPTY when enabling TXEMPTY to avoid
any previous TXEVENT event asserting the UART interrupt. This clear
operation is done immediately after filling the TX FIFO.
However, if the bytes inserted by cdns_uart_handle_tx() are consumed by
the UART before the TXEMPTY is cleared, the clear operation eats the new
TXEMPTY event as well, causing cdns_uart_isr() to never receive the
TXEMPTY event. If there are bytes still queued in circbuf, TX will get
stuck as they will never get transferred to FIFO (unless new bytes are
queued to circbuf in which case .start_tx() is called again).
While the racy missed TXEMPTY occurs fairly often with short data
sequences (e.g. write 1 byte), in those cases circbuf is usually empty
so no action on TXEMPTY would have been needed anyway. On the other
hand, longer data sequences make the race much more unlikely as UART
takes longer to consume the TX FIFO. Therefore it is rare for this race
to cause visible issues in general.
Fix the race by clearing the TXEMPTY bit in ISR *before* filling the
FIFO.
The TXEMPTY bit in ISR will only get asserted at the exact moment the
TX FIFO *becomes* empty, so clearing the bit before filling FIFO does
not cause an extra immediate assertion even if the FIFO is initially
empty.
This is hard to reproduce directly on a normal system, but inserting
e.g. udelay(200) after cdns_uart_handle_tx(port), setting 4000000 baud,
and then running "dd if=/dev/zero bs=128 of=/dev/ttyPS0 count=50"
reliably reproduces the issue on my ZynqMP test system unless this fix
is applied.

if CONFIG_ACPI=n, the ID table left unused which is not what we want.

Since commit edc6afc54968 ("tty: switch to ktermios and new framework")
termios speed is no longer stored only in c_cflag member but also in new
additional c_ispeed and c_ospeed members. If BOTHER flag is set in c_cflag
then termios speed is stored only in these new members.
Therefore to correctly restore termios speed it is required to store also
ispeed and ospeed members, not only cflag member.
In case only cflag member with BOTHER flag is restored then functions
tty_termios_baud_rate() and tty_termios_input_baud_rate() returns baudrate
stored in c_ospeed / c_ispeed member, which is zero as it was not restored
too. If reported baudrate is invalid (e.g. zero) then serial core functions
report fallback baudrate value 9600. So it means that in this case original
baudrate is lost and kernel changes it to value 9600.
Simple reproducer of this issue is to boot kernel with following command
line argument: "console=ttyXXX,86400" (where ttyXXX is the device name).
For speed 86400 there is no Bnnn constant and therefore kernel has to
represent this speed via BOTHER c_cflag. Which means that speed is stored
only in c_ospeed and c_ispeed members, not in c_cflag anymore.
If bootloader correctly configures serial device to speed 86400 then kernel
prints boot log to early console at speed speed 86400 without any issue.
But after kernel starts initializing real console device ttyXXX then speed
is changed to fallback value 9600 because information about speed was lost.
This patch fixes above issue by storing and restoring also ispeed and
ospeed members, which are required for BOTHER flag.

Driver's tx_empty callback should signal when the transmit shift register
is empty. So when the last character has been sent.
STAT_TX_FIFO_EMP bit signals only that HW transmit FIFO is empty, which
happens when the last byte is loaded into transmit shift register.
STAT_TX_EMP bit signals when the both HW transmit FIFO and transmit shift
register are empty.
So replace STAT_TX_FIFO_EMP check by STAT_TX_EMP in mvebu_uart_tx_empty()
callback function.

The bar and offset parameters to setup_port() are used in pointer math,
and while it would be very difficult to get them to wrap as a negative
number, just be "safe" and make them unsigned so that static checkers do
not trip over them unintentionally.

Oxford Semiconductor 950 serial port devices have a 128-byte FIFO and in
the enhanced (650) mode, which we select in `autoconfig_has_efr' with
the ECB bit set in the EFR register, they support the receive interrupt
trigger level selectable with FCR bits 7:6 from the set of 16, 32, 112,
120. This applies to the original OX16C950 discrete UART[1] as well as
950 cores embedded into more complex devices.
For these devices we set the default to 112, which sets an excessively
high level of 112 or 7/8 of the FIFO capacity, unlike with other port
types where we choose at most 1/2 of their respective FIFO capacities.
Additionally we don't make the trigger level configurable. Consequently
frequent input overruns happen with high bit rates where hardware flow
control cannot be used (e.g. terminal applications) even with otherwise
highly-performant systems.
Lower the default receive interrupt trigger level to 32 then, and make
it configurable. Document the trigger levels along with other port
types, including the set of 16, 32, 64, 112 for the transmit interrupt
as well[2].

Make sure only actual 8 bits of the IIR register are used in determining
the port type in `autoconfig'.
The `serial_in' port accessor returns the `unsigned int' type, meaning
that with UPIO_AU, UPIO_MEM16, UPIO_MEM32, and UPIO_MEM32BE access types
more than 8 bits of data are returned, of which the high order bits will
often come from bus lines that are left floating in the data phase. For
example with the MIPS Malta board's CBUS UART, where the registers are
aligned on 8-byte boundaries and which uses 32-bit accesses, data as
follows is returned:

Evidently high-order 24 bits return values previously driven in the
address phase (the 3 highest order address bits used with the command
above are masked out in the simple virtual address mapping used here and
come out at zeros on the external bus), a common scenario with bus lines
left floating, due to bus capacitance.
Consequently when the value of IIR, mapped at 0x1f000910, is retrieved
in `autoconfig', it comes out at 0x1f0009c1 and when it is right-shifted
by 6 and then assigned to 8-bit `scratch' variable, the value calculated
is 0x27, not one of 0, 1, 2, 3 expected in port type determination.
Fix the issue then, by assigning the value returned from `serial_in' to
`scratch' first, which masks out 24 high-order bits retrieved, and only
then right-shift the resulting 8-bit data quantity, producing the value
of 3 in this case, as expected. Fix the same issue in `serial_dl_read'.
The problem first appeared with Linux 2.6.9-rc3 which predates our repo
history, but the origin could be identified with the old MIPS/Linux repo
also at: <git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ralf/linux.git>
as commit e0d2356c0777 ("Merge with Linux 2.6.9-rc3."), where code in
`serial_in' was updated with this case:

which made it produce results outside the unsigned 8-bit range for the
first time, though obviously it is system dependent what actual values
appear in the high order bits retrieved and it may well have been zeros
in the relevant positions with the system the change originally was
intended for. It is at that point that code in `autoconf' should have
been updated accordingly, but clearly it was overlooked.

We should be very careful about the register values that will be used
for division or modulo operations, althrough the possibility that the
UARTBAUD register value is zero is very low, but we had better to deal
with the "bad data" of hardware in advance to avoid division or modulo
by zero leading to undefined kernel behavior.

Stop dmaengine transfer in sci_stop_tx(). Otherwise, the following
message is possible output when system enters suspend and while
transferring data, because clearing TIE bit in SCSCR is not able to
stop any dmaengine transfer.

The macro "spi_register_driver" invokes the function
"__spi_register_driver()" which has a return type of int and can fail,
returning a negative value in such a case. This is currently ignored and
the init() function yields success even if the spi driver failed to
register.
Fix this by collecting the return value of "__spi_register_driver()" and
also unregister the uart driver in case of failure.

Incorrect characters are observed on console during boot. This issue occurs
when init/main.c is modifying termios settings to open /dev/console on the
rootfs.
This patch adds a waiting loop in set_termios to wait for TX shift register
empty (and TX FIFO if any) before stopping serial port.

At the moment opening a serial device node (such as /dev/ttyS3)
succeeds even if there is no actual serial device behind it.
Reading/writing/ioctls fail as expected because the uart port is not
initialized (the type is PORT_UNKNOWN) and the TTY_IO_ERROR error state
bit is set fot the tty.
However setting line discipline does not have these checks
8250_port.c (8250 is the default choice made by univ8250_console_init()).
As the result of PORT_UNKNOWN, uart_port::iobase is NULL which
a platform translates onto some address accessing which produces a crash
like below.
This adds tty_port_initialized() to uart_set_ldisc() to prevent the crash.
Found by syzkaller.

It has been observed that once per 300-1300 port openings the first
transmitted byte is being corrupted on AM3352 ("v" written to FIFO appeared
as "e" on the wire). It only happened if single byte has been transmitted
right after port open, which means, DMA is not used for this transfer and
the corruption never happened afterwards.
Therefore I've carefully re-read the MDR1 errata (link below), which says
"when accessing the MDR1 registers that causes a dummy under-run condition
that will freeze the UART in IrDA transmission. In UART mode, this may
corrupt the transferred data". Strictly speaking,
omap_8250_mdr1_errataset() performs a read access and if the value is the
same as should be written, exits without errata-recommended FIFO reset.
A brief check of the serial_omap_mdr1_errataset() from the competing
omap-serial driver showed it has no read access of MDR1. After removing the
read access from omap_8250_mdr1_errataset() the data corruption never
happened any more.

Mediatek 8250 port supports speed higher than uartclk / 16. If the baud
rates in both the new and the old termios setting are higher than
uartclk / 16, the WARN_ON in uart_get_baud_rate() will be triggered.
Passing NULL as the old termios so uart_get_baud_rate() will use
uartclk / 16 - 1 as the new baud rate which will be replaced by the
original baud rate later by tty_termios_encode_baud_rate() in
mtk8250_set_termios().

Some variants of the samsung tty driver can pick which clock
to use for their baud rate generation. In the DT conversion,
a default clock was selected to be used if a specific one wasn't
assigned and then a comparison of which clock rate worked better
was done. Unfortunately, the comparison was implemented in such
a way that only the default clock was ever actually compared.
Fix this by iterating through all possible clocks, except when a
specific clock has already been picked via clk_sel (which is
only possible via board files).

Terminate and flush DMA internal buffers, before pushing RX data to
higher layer. Otherwise, this will lead to data corruption, as driver
would end up pushing stale buffer data to higher layer while actual data
is still stuck inside DMA hardware and has yet not arrived at the
memory.
While at that, replace deprecated dmaengine_terminate_all() with
dmaengine_terminate_async().

When port's throttle callback is called, it should stop pushing any more
data into TTY buffer to avoid buffer overflow. This means driver has to
stop HW from receiving more data and assert the HW flow control. For
UARTs with auto HW flow control (such as 8250_omap) manual assertion of
flow control line is not possible and only way is to allow RX FIFO to
fill up, thus trigger auto HW flow control logic.
Therefore make sure that 8250 generic IRQ handler does not drain data
when port is stopped (i.e UART_LSR_DR is unset in read_status_mask). Not
servicing, RX FIFO would trigger auto HW flow control when FIFO
occupancy reaches preset threshold, thus halting RX.
Since, error conditions in UART_LSR register are cleared just by reading
the register, data has to be drained in case there are FIFO errors, else
error information will lost.

If the call to uart_add_one_port() in serial8250_register_8250_port()
fails, a half-initialized entry in the serial_8250ports[] array is left
behind.
A subsequent reprobe of the same serial port causes that entry to be
reused. Because uart->port.dev is set, uart_remove_one_port() is called
for the half-initialized entry and bails out with an error message:

The same happens on failure of mctrl_gpio_init() since commit
4a96895f74c9 ("tty/serial/8250: use mctrl_gpio helpers").
Fix by zeroing the uart->port.dev pointer in the probe error path.

The commit added an unconditional call to uart_remove_one_port() in
serial8250_register_port(). In v3.7, commit 835d844d1a28 ("8250_pnp:
do pnp probe before legacy probe") made that call conditional on
uart->port.dev which allows me to fix the issue by zeroing that pointer
in the error path. Thus, the present commit will fix the problem as far
back as v3.7 whereas still older versions need to also cherry-pick
835d844d1a28.

pl011_probe() calls pl011_setup_port() to reserve an amba_ports[] entry,
then calls pl011_register_port() to register the uart driver with the
tty layer.
If registration of the uart driver fails, the amba_ports[] entry is not
released. If this happens 14 times (value of UART_NR macro), then all
amba_ports[] entries will have been leaked and driver probing is no
longer possible. (To be fair, that can only happen if the DeviceTree
doesn't contain alias IDs since they cause the same entry to be used for
a given port.) Fix it.

If probing of a pl011 gets deferred until after free_initmem(), an oops
ensues because pl011_console_match() is called which has been freed.
Fix by removing the __init attribute from the function and those it
calls.
Commit 10879ae5f12e ("serial: pl011: add console matching function")
introduced pl011_console_match() not just for early consoles but
regular preferred consoles, such as those added by acpi_parse_spcr().
Regular consoles may be registered after free_initmem() for various
reasons, one being deferred probing, another being dynamic enablement
of serial ports using a DeviceTree overlay.
Thus, pl011_console_match() must not be declared __init and the
functions it calls mustn't either.

In few older Samsung SoCs like s3c2410, s3c2412
and s3c2440, UART IP is having 2 interrupt lines.
However, in other SoCs like s3c6400, s5pv210,
exynos5433, and exynos4210 UART is having only 1
interrupt line. Due to this, "platform_get_irq(platdev, 1)"
call in the driver gives the following false-positive error:
"IRQ index 1 not found" on newer SoC's.
This patch adds the condition to check for Tx interrupt
only for the those SoC's which have 2 interrupt lines.

Commit 7b668c064ec3 ("serial: 8250: Fix max baud limit in generic 8250
port") fixed limits of a baud rate setting for a generic 8250 port.
In other words since that commit the baud rate has been permitted to be
within [uartclk / 16 / UART_DIV_MAX; uartclk / 16], which is absolutely
normal for a standard 8250 UART port. But there are custom 8250 ports,
which provide extended baud rate limits. In particular the Mediatek 8250
port can work with baud rates up to "uartclk" speed.
Normally that and any other peculiarity is supposed to be handled in a
custom set_termios() callback implemented in the vendor-specific
8250-port glue-driver. Currently that is how it's done for the most of
the vendor-specific 8250 ports, but for some reason for Mediatek a
solution has been spread out to both the glue-driver and to the generic
8250-port code. Due to that a bug has been introduced, which permitted the
extended baud rate limit for all even for standard 8250-ports. The bug
has been fixed by the commit 7b668c064ec3 ("serial: 8250: Fix max baud
limit in generic 8250 port") by narrowing the baud rates limit back down to
the normal bounds. Unfortunately by doing so we also broke the
Mediatek-specific extended bauds feature.
A fix of the problem described above is twofold. First since we can't get
back the extended baud rate limits feature to the generic set_termios()
function and that method supports only a standard baud rates range, the
requested baud rate must be locally stored before calling it and then
restored back to the new termios structure after the generic set_termios()
finished its magic business. By doing so we still use the
serial8250_do_set_termios() method to set the LCR/MCR/FCR/etc. registers,
while the extended baud rate setting procedure will be performed later in
the custom Mediatek-specific set_termios() callback. Second since a true
baud rate is now fully calculated in the custom set_termios() method we
need to locally update the port timeout by calling the
uart_update_timeout() function. After the fixes described above are
implemented in the 8250_mtk.c driver, the Mediatek 8250-port should
get back to normally working with extended baud rates.

Its a little confusing, as uart_port_spin_lock_init() is one
place where the lock is supposed to be initialized, but it has
an exception for the case where the port is a console.
This makes it seem like a deeper fix is needed to properly
register the console, but I'm not sure what that entails, and
Andy suggested that this approach is less invasive.
Thus, this patch resolves the issue by initializing the spinlock
in the driver, and resolves the resulting warning.

err_spi is used when SERIAL_SC16IS7XX_SPI is enabled, so make
the label only available under SERIAL_SC16IS7XX_SPI option.
Otherwise, the below warning appears.
