bfa695b5cc networkd: ipv4ll - default to setting up ipv4ll routes
This is necessary for non-ipv4ll hosts to communicate with ipv4ll-only hosts on the same link. Defaults
to being enabled, but can be opted out.

f41925b4e4 systemd-detect-virt: detect s390 virtualization
A system that is running on a logical partition (LPAR) provided by
PR/SM has access to physical hardware (except CPU). It is true that
PR/SM abstracts the hardware, but only for sharing purposes.

Details are statet at:

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/eserver/v1r2/topic/eicaz/eicazzlpar.htm

-->--
In other words, PR/SM transforms physical resources into virtual resources so
that many logical partitions can share the same physical resources.
--<--

Still, from the OS point of view, the shared virtual resource is real
hardware. ConditionVirtualization must be set to false if the OS runs
directly on PR/SM (e.g. in an LPAR).

[zj: reorder code so that variables are not allocated when #if-def is
false. Add commit message.]

Previously existing scheme where the file name would be based on

only two options:
  1. just one file (until rotation),
  2. one file per source host, using the hostname as filename part.
For the cases where the source is specified by the user, only
option one is allowed, and the full of the file must be specified.

f5de5b0020 sd-dhcp-client: make request broadcasts opt-in
It appears there is no good way to decide whether or not broadcasts should be enabled,
there is hardware that must have broadcast, and there are networks that only allow
unicast. So we give up and make this configurable.

By default, unicast is used, but if the kernel were to inform us abotu certain
interfaces requiring broadcast, we could change this to opt-in by default in
those cases.

edb85f0d8d networkd: dhcp add vendor class indentifier option 60
Vendor Class Identifier be used by DHCP clients to identify
their vendor type and configuration. When using this option,
vendors can define their own specific identifier values, such
as to convey a particular hardware or operating system
configuration or other identifying information.

Vendor-specified DHCP options—features that let administrators assign
separate options to clients with similar configuration requirements.
For example, if DHCP-aware clients for example we want to separate
different gateway and option for different set of people
(dev/test/hr/finance) in a org or devices for example web/database
servers or let's say in a embedded device etc and require a different
default gateway or DNS server than the rest of clients.

5aded36978 man: add a mapping for external manpages
It is annoying when we have dead links on fd.o.

Add project='man-pages|die-net|archlinux' to <citerefentry>-ies.

In generated html, add external links to
http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man, http://linux.die.net/man/,
https://www.archlinux.org/.

By default, pages in sections 2 and 4 go to man7, since Michael
Kerrisk is the autorative source on kernel related stuff.

The rest of links goes to linux.die.net, because they have the
manpages.

Except for the pacman stuff, since it seems to be only available from
archlinux.org.

Poor gummiboot gets no link, because gummitboot(8) ain't to be found
on the net. According to common wisdom, that would mean that it does
not exist. But I have seen Kay using it, so I know it does, and
deserves to be found. Can somebody be nice and put it up somewhere?

5ae4d543cb os-release: define /usr/lib/os-release as fallback for /etc/os-release
The file should have been in /usr/lib/ in the first place, since it
describes the OS container in /usr (and not the configuration in /etc),
hence, let's support os-release files in /usr/lib as fallback if no
version in /etc exists, following the usual override logic.

A prior commit already enabled tmpfiles to create /etc/os-release as a
symlink to /usr/lib/os-release should it be missing, thus providing nice
compatibility with applications only checking in /etc.

While it's probably a good idea if all apps check both locations via a
fallback logic, it is only necessary in the early boot process, as long
as the /etc/os-release symlink has not been restored, in case we boot
with an empty /etc.

With Symlinks= we can manage one or more symlinks to AF_UNIX or FIFO

This has two benefits: first, this allows us to remove /dev/log and
/dev/initctl from /dev, thus leaving only symlinks, device nodes and
directories in the /dev tree. More importantly however, this allows us
to move /dev/log out of /dev, while still making it accessible there, so
that PrivateDevices= can provide /dev/log too.

ReadOnlySystem= uses fs namespaces to mount /usr and /boot read-only for

c779a44222 hostnamed: Fix the way that static and transient host names interact
It is almost always incorrect to allow DHCP or other sources of
transient host names to override an explicitly configured static host
name.

This commit changes things so that if a static host name is set, this
will override the transient host name (eg: provided via DHCP). Transient
host names can still be used to provide host names for machines that have
not been explicitly configured with a static host name.

The exception to this rule is if the static host name is set to
"localhost". In those cases we act as if no
static host name has been explicitly set.

As discussed elsewhere, systemd may want to have an fd based ownership
of the transient name. That part is not included in this commit.

3a67e927e3 networkd-wait-online: improve interoptability and enable by default
To make sure we don't delay boot on systems where (some) network links are managed by someone else
we don't block if something else has successfully brought up a link.

We will still block until all links we are aware of that are managed by networkd have been
configured, but if no such links exist, and someone else have configured a link sufficiently
that it has a carrier, it may be that the link is ready so we should no longer block.

Note that in all likelyhood the link is not ready (no addresses/routes configured),
so whatever network managment daemon configured it should provide a similar wait-online
service to block network-online.target until it is ready.

The aim is to block as long as we know networking is not fully configured, but no longer. This
will allow systemd-networkd-wait-online.service to be enabled on any system, even if we don't
know whether networkd is the main/only network manager.

Even in the case networking is fully configured by networkd, the default behavior may not be
sufficient: if two links need to be configured, but the first is fully configured before the
second one appears we will assume the network is up. To work around that, we allow specifying
specific devices to wait for before considering the network up.

This unit is enabled by default, just like systemd-networkd, but will only be pulled in if
anyone pulls in network-online.target.

efe6e7d33a service: add support for reboot argument when triggered by StartLimitAction=
When rebooting with systemctl, an optional argument can be passed to the

9ea28c55a2 udev: remove seqnum API and all assumptions about seqnums
The way the kernel namespaces have been implemented breaks assumptions
udev made regarding uevent sequence numbers. Creating devices in a
namespace "steals" uevents and its sequence numbers from the host. It
confuses the "udevadmin settle" logic, which might block until util a
timeout is reached, even when no uevent is pending.

Remove any assumptions about sequence numbers and deprecate libudev's
API exposing these numbers; none of that can reliably be used anymore
when namespaces are involved.

aba496a58a networkd: smooth transition from ipv4ll to dhcp address
Currently when both ipv4ll and dhcp are enabled, ipv4ll
address (if one has been claimed) is removed when dhcp
address is aquired. This is not the best thing to do
since there might be clients unaware of the removal
trying to communicate.

This patch provides a smooth transition between ipv4ll
and dhcp. If ipv4ll address was claimed [1] before dhcp,
address is marked as deprecated. Deprecated address is still
a valid address and packets can be received on it but address
cannot be selected as a source address. If dhcp lease cannot
be extended, then ipv4ll address is marked as valid again.

[1] If there is no collision, claiming IPv4LL takes between 4 to
7 seconds.

tcpwrap is legacy code, that is barely maintained upstream. It's APIs
are awful, and the feature set it exposes (such as DNS and IDENT

Hence, let's remove the code. If people want to continue making use of
this, they can do so by plugging in "tcpd" for the processes they start.
With that scheme things are as well or badly supported as they were from
traditional inetd, hence no functionality is really lost.

cc64d0175a journal-remote: HTTP(s) support
The whole tool is made dependent on µhttpd availability. It should be
easy to make the µhttpd parts conditional, but since transfer over
HTTP seems to be the primary use case, currently this is not done.

Current implementation uses nested epoll loops: sd-event is used for
the external event loop, and µhttpd uses epoll in its own
loop. Unfortunately µhttpd does not expose enough information to add
the descriptors it uses to the external event loop. This means that
starvation of other events is possible, if one of the inner µhttpd
loops is constantly busy. This means that µhttpd servers should not
be mixed with other sources.

The TLS authentication parts haven't been really tested properly, and
should not be take too seriously.

When run in an initrd and no root= argument is set (or is set to
root=gpt-auto) we will automatically look for the root partition on the
same disk the EFI ESP is located on.

Since we look for swap, /home and /srv on the disk the root partition is
located on, we hence have a fully discoverable chain:

Firmware discovers the EFI ESP partition → the initrd discovers the
root partition → the host OS discovers swap, /home, and /srv.

Note that this requires an EFI boot loader that sets the
LoaderDevicePartUUID EFI variable, such as Gummiboot.

df1e020461 Revert back to /var/run at a couple of problems
This partially reverts 41a55c46ab

Some specifications we want to stay compatibility actually document
/var/run, not /run, and we should stay compatible with that. In order to
make sure our D-Bus implementation works on any system, regardless if
running systemd or not, we should always use /var/run which is the
only path mandated by the D-Bus spec.

Similar, glibc hardcodes the utmp location to /var/run, and this is
exposed in _UTMP_PATH in limits.h, hence let's stay in sync with this
public API, too.

We simply do not support systems where /var/run is not a symlink → /run.
Hence both are equivalent. Staying compatible with upstream
specifications hence weighs more than cleaning up superficial
appearance.

65b3903ff5 journal: guarantee async-signal-safety in sd_journald_sendv
signal(7) provides a list of functions which may be called from a
signal handler. Other functions, which only call those functions and
don't access global memory and are reentrant are also safe.
sd_j_sendv was mostly OK, but would call mkostemp and writev in a
fallback path, which are unsafe.

Being able to call sd_j_sendv in a async-signal-safe way is important
because it allows it be used in signal handlers.

Safety is achieved by replacing mkostemp with open(O_TMPFILE) and an
open-coded writev replacement which uses write. Unfortunately,
O_TMPFILE is only available on kernels >= 3.11. When O_TMPFILE is
unavailable, an open-coded mkostemp is used.

b4a11878f2 cryptsetup: Support key-slot option
Debian recently introduced the option key-slot to /etc/crypttab to
specify the LUKS key slot to be used for decrypting the device. On
systems where a keyfile is used and the key is not in the first slot,
this can speed up the boot process quite a bit, since cryptsetup does
not need to try all of the slots sequentially. (Unsuccessfully testing
a key slot typically takes up to about 1 second.)

This patch makes systemd aware of this option.

348ced9097 journald: do not free space when disk space runs low
Before, journald would remove journal files until both MaxUse= and
KeepFree= settings would be satisfied. The first one depends (if set
automatically) on the size of the file system and is constant. But
the second one depends on current use of the file system, and a spike
in disk usage would cause journald to delete journal files, trying to
reach usage which would leave 15% of the disk free. This behaviour is
surprising for the user who doesn't expect his logs to be purged when
disk usage goes above 85%, which on a large disk could be some
gigabytes from being full. In addition attempting to keep 15% free
provides an attack vector where filling the disk sufficiently disposes
of almost all logs.

Instead, obey KeepFree= only as a limit on adding additional files.
When replacing old files with new, ignore KeepFree=. This means that
if journal disk usage reached some high point that at some later point
start to violate the KeepFree= constraint, journald will not add files
to go above this point, but it will stay (slightly) below it. When
journald is restarted, it forgets the previous maximum usage value,
and sets the limit based on the current usage, so if disk remains to
be filled, journald might use one journal-file-size less on each
restart, if restarts happen just after rotation. This seems like a
reasonable compromise between implementation complexity and robustness.

ea18a4b57e journalctl: allow globbing in --unit and --user-unit
This is a continuation of e3e0314b systemctl: allow globbing in commands
which take multiple unit names.

Multiple patterns can be specified, as separate arguments, or as one argument
with patterns seperated by commas.

If patterns are given, at least one unit must be matched (by any of the patterns).
This is different behaviour than systemctl, but here it is necessary because
otherwise anything would be matched, which is unlikely to be the intended
behaviour.

c4708f1323 tmpfiles: introduce the concept of unsafe operations
Various operations done by systemd-tmpfiles may only be safely done at
boot (e.g. removal of X lockfiles in /tmp, creation of /run/nologin).
Other operations may be done at any point in time (e.g. setting the
ownership on /{run,var}/log/journal). This distinction is largely
orthogonal to the type of operation.

A new switch --unsafe is added, and operations which should only be
executed during bootup are marked with an exclamation mark in the
configuration files. systemd-tmpfiles.service is modified to use this
switch, and guards are added so it is hard to re-start it by mistake.

If we install a new version of systemd, we actually want to enforce
some changes to tmpfiles configuration immediately. This should now be
possible to do safely, so distribution packages can be modified to
execute the "safe" subset at package installation time.

/run/nologin creation is split out into a separate service, to make it
easy to override.

We already shew lines in full when using a pager or not on a

namely when --follow is used.

This has been a popular request for a long time, and indeed, full
output seems much more useful. Old behaviour can still be requested by
using --no-full. Old options retain their behaviour for compatiblity,
but aren't advertised as much. This change applies only to jornalctl,
not to systemctl, when ellipsization is useful to keep the layout.

9ea9d4cf16 systemctl: move "dump" command from systemctl to systemd-analyze
It's an analysis command and its format is explicitly not covered by any

bit.

This patch also adds auto-paging to the various systemd-analyze commands

a331b5e6d4 journalctl: Add support for showing messages from a previous boot
Hi,

I redid the boot ID look up to use enumerate_unique.

This is quite fast if the cache is warm but painfully slow if
it isn't. It has a slight chance of returning the wrong order if
realtime clock jumps around.

This one has to do n searches for every boot ID there is plus
a sort, so it depends heavily on cache hotness. This is in contrast
to the other way of look-up through filtering by a MESSAGE_ID,
which only needs about 1 seek + whatever amount of relative IDs
you want to walk.

I also have a linked-list + (in-place) mergesort version of this
patch, which has pretty much the same runtime. But since this one
is using libc sorting and armortized allocation, I prefer this
one.

To summarize: The MESSAGE_ID way is a *lot* faster but can be
incomplete due to rotation, while the enumerate+sort will find
every boot ID out there but will be painfully slow for large
journals and cold caches.

You choose :P

8cf3ca8068 cryptsetup: Add tcrypt support
Tcrypt uses a different approach to passphrases/key files. The
passphrase and all key files are incorporated into the "password"
to open the volume. So, the idea of slots that provide a way to
open the volume with different passphrases/key files that are
independent from each other like with LUKS does not apply.

Therefore, we use the key file from /etc/crypttab as the source
for the passphrase. The actual key files that are combined with
the passphrase into a password are provided as a new option in
/etc/crypttab and can be given multiple times if more than one
key file is used by a volume.

92fba83e3a journal-verify: allow unlinked data entries
Sometimes an entry is not successfully written, and we end up with
data items which are "unlinked", not connected to, and not used by any
entry. This will usually happen when we write to write a core dump,
and the initial small data fields are written successfully, but
the huge COREDUMP= field is not written. This situation is hard
to avoid, but the results are mostly harmless. Thus only warn about
unused data items.

Also, be more verbose about why journal files failed verification.
This should help diagnose journal failure modes without resorting
to a hexadecimal editor.

19adb8a320 systemd-sleep: add support for freeze and standby
A new config file /etc/systemd/sleep.conf is added.
It is parsed by systemd-sleep and logind. The strings written
to /sys/power/disk and /sys/power/state can be configured.
This allows people to use different modes of suspend on
systems with broken or special hardware.

Configuration is shared between systemd-sleep and logind
to enable logind to answer the question "can the system be
put to sleep" as correctly as possible without actually
invoking the action. If the user configured systemd-sleep
to only use 'freeze', but current kernel does not support it,
logind will properly report that the system cannot be put
to sleep.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57793
https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commit;h=7e73c5ae6e7991a6c01f6d096ff8afaef4458c36
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/systemd-devel/2013-February/009238.html

SYSTEM_CONFIG_FILE and USER_CONFIG_FILE defines were removed
since they were used in only a few places and with the
addition of /etc/systemd/sleep.conf it becomes easier to just
append the name of each file to the dir name.

1a13e31d27 build-sys,man: use XML entities to substite strings
This makes it easier to add substitutions to man pages,
avoiding the separate transformation step.

mkdir -p's are removed from the rule, because xsltproc will
will create directories on it's own.

All in all, two or three forks per man page are avoided,
which should make things marginally faster.

Unfortunately python parsers must too be tweaked to handle
entities. This isn't particularly easy: with lxml a custom
Resolver can be used, but the stdlib etree doesn't support
external entities *at all*. So when running without lxml,
the entities are just removed. Right now it doesn't matter,
since the entities are not indexed anyway. But I intend to
add indexing of filenames in the near future, and then the
index generated without lxml might be missing a few lines.
Oh well.

3baed19327 Simplify the meaning of %s
The rules governing %s where just too complicated. First of
all, looking at $SHELL is dangerous. For systemd --system,
it usually wouldn't be set. But it could be set if the admin
first started a debug shell, let's say /sbin/sash, and then
launched systemd from it. This shouldn't influence how daemons
are started later on, so is better ignored. Similar reasoning
holds for session mode. Some shells set $SHELL, while other
set it only when it wasn't set previously (e.g. zsh). This
results in fragility that is better avoided by ignoring $SHELL
totally.

With $SHELL out of the way, simplify things by saying that
%s==/bin/sh for root, and the configured shell otherwise.
get_shell() is the only caller, so it can be inlined.

Fixes one issue seen with 'make check'.
