spi_pcpu_stats_totalize() is a rather large macro, and is instantiated
28 times, causing a large amount of duplication in the amount of
generated code.
Reduce the duplication by replacing spi_pcpu_stats_totalize() by a real
C function, and absorb all other common code from
spi_statistics_##name##_show(). As (a) the old "field" parameter was
the name of a structure member, which cannot be passed to a function,
and (b) passing a pointer to the member is also not an option, due to
the loop over all possible CPUs, the "field" parameter is replaced by an
"offset" parameter, pointing to a location within the structure.
This reduces kernel size by ca. 4 KiB (on arm32 and arm64).

Currently the NXP Flex SPI driver has a dependency on ARCH_LAYERSCAPE ||
HAS_IOMEM which means that the dependency is almost always true and the
driver available. Really these should be two separate dependencies, with
an || COMPILE_TEST dependency for the architecture to ensure build coverage
is maintained.

The mpc52xx-psc and mpc512x-psc drivers use DT property parsing
functions for 'reg' and 'interrupts', but those are available as
platform device resources. Convert probe functions to use them and
simplify probe to a single function. For 'cell-index', also use the
preferred typed property function.

things safer overall. This is the contuation of that work (started
last release with kobject changes) in moving struct bus_type to be
constant. We didn't quite make it for this release, but the
remaining patches will be finished up for the release after this
one, but the groundwork has been laid for this effort.

This has been a fairly quiet release for SPI, though it is likely that
the next release will have some big changes as there's some preparatory
work for multiple chip select support gone in - the rest of the code is
on the list but will need to be rebased onto -rc1. Otherwise there's a couple
of new tunables for chip select timings, some new devices and smaller
device specific updates and fixes.
- Support for configuring the hold and minimum inactive times for chip
selects.
- Beginnings of support for supporting devices which have multiple chip
selects on a single device.
- Support for newer Broadcom HSSPI and Intel controllers, Silicon Labs
EM3581 and SI3210.

* Reset the CMD_CTRL Register, without which read/writes in STIG mode
were failing in some cases. The issue came to light while using STIG
Mode for small reads.
* Also add a flag that can allow us to do direct reads but distinguish
direct writes, thus enabling us to disable writes in DAC mode in some
cases that require it. (Like to write to some connected Flash registers)
* Fix register reads in STIG mode and also use STIG mode while reading flash
registers.
Currently if you try to read a register while in STIG mode there is no
support for ADDR and thus naturally a register never gets read from the
flash.
This patch series has been tested on a TI AM625-SK-EVM with both a quad
spi nor flash (s25hs) and OSPI NOR Flash (s28hs).

Group some variables based on their sizes to reduce hole and avoid padding.
On x86_64, this shrinks the size from 144 to 128 bytes.
Turn 'timestamped' into a bitfield so that it can be easily merged with
some other bifields and move 'error'.
This should have no real impact on memory allocation because 'struct
spi_transfer' is mostly used on stack, but it can save a few cycles
when the structure is initialized or copied.

Fix the issue where some flash chips like cypress S25HS256T return the
value of the same register over and over in DAC mode.
For example in the TI K3-AM62x Processors refer [0] Technical Reference
Manual there is a layer of digital logic in front of the QSPI/OSPI
Drive when used in DAC mode. This is part of the Flash Subsystem (FSS)
which provides access to external Flash devices.
The FSS0_0_SYSCONFIG Register (Offset = 4h) has a BIT Field for
OSPI_32B_DISABLE_MODE which has a Reset value = 0. This means, OSPI 32bit
mode enabled by default.
Thus, by default controller operates in 32 bit mode causing it to always
align all data to 4 bytes from a 4byte aligned address. In some flash
chips like cypress for example if we try to read some regs in DAC mode
then it keeps sending the value of the first register that was requested
and inorder to read the next reg, we have to stop and re-initiate a new
transaction.
This causes wrong register values to be read than what is desired when
registers are read in DAC mode. Hence if the data.nbytes is very less
then prefer STIG mode for such small reads.

Setup the Addr bit field while issuing register reads in STIG mode. This
is needed for example flashes like cypress define in their transaction
table that to read any register there is 1 cmd byte and a few more address
bytes trailing the cmd byte. Absence of addr bytes will obviously fail
to read correct data from flash register that maybe requested by flash
driver because the controller doesn't even specify which address of the
flash register the read is being requested from.

The newer BCMBCA SoCs such as BCM6756, BCM4912 and BCM6855 include an
updated SPI controller that add the capability to allow the driver to
control chip select explicitly. Driver can control and keep cs low
between the transfers natively. Hence the dummy cs workaround or prepend
mode found in the bcm63xx-hsspi driver are no longer needed and this new
driver is much cleaner.

In general the controller supports SPI dual mode operation but the
particular SPI flash dual io read op switches from single mode in cmd
phase to dual mode in address and data phase. This is not compatible
with prepend operation where cmd and address are sent out through the
prepend buffer and they must use same the number of io pins.
This patch disables these SPI flash dual io read ops through the mem_ops
supports_op interface. This makes sure the SPI flash driver selects the
compatible read ops at run time.

Due to the controller limitation to keep the chip select low during the
bus idle time between the transfer, a dummy cs workaround was used when
this driver was first upstreamed to the kernel. It basically picks the
dummy cs as !actual_cs so typically dummy cs is 1 when most of the case
only cs 0 is used in the board design. Then invert the polarity of both
cs and tell the controller to start the transfers using dummy cs.
Assuming both cs are active low before the inversion, effectively this
keeps dummy cs high and actual cs low during the transfer and workaround
the issue.
This workaround implies that dummy cs 1 pin has to be set to chip
selection function in the pinmux when the transfer clock is above
25MHz. The old chips likely have default pinmux set to chip select on
the dummy cs pin so it works but this is not case for the new Broadband
BCA chips and this workaround stop working. This is specifically an
issue to support SPI NAND and SPI NOR flash because these flash devices
can typically run at or above 100MHz.
This patch utilizes the prepend feature of the controller to combine the
multiple transfers in the same message to a single transfer when
possible. This way there is no need to keep clock low between transfers
and solve the issue without any hardware requirement.
Multiple transfers within a SPI message may be combined into one
transfer if the following are all true:
* One or more half duplex write transfer in single bit mode
* Optional full duplex read/write at the end
* No delay and cs_change between transfers
Most of the SPI device meets this requirements such as SPI NOR,
SPI NAND flash, Broadcom SPI voice card and etc. For any SPI message
that does not meet the above requirement to combine the transfers, we
switch to original dummy cs mode but limit the clock rate to the safe
25MHz. This is the default auto transfer mode and it makes sure all the
SPI message can be supported automatically under the hood.
This patch also adds the driver sysfs node xfer_mode to provide
the option for overriding the default auto mode and force it to dummy cs
or prepend mode.

Currently the driver always sets the controller to dual data bit mode
for both tx and rx data in the profile mode control register even for
single data bit transfer. Luckily the opcode is set correctly according
to SPI transfer data bit width so it does not actually cause issues.
This change fixes the problem by setting tx and rx data bit mode field
correctly according to the actual SPI transfer tx and rx data bit width.

The kernel SPI interface includes the cs_change flag that alters how
the CS behaves.
If we're in the middle of transfers, it tells us to unselect the
CS momentarily since the target device requires that.
If we're at the end of a transfer, it tells us to keep the CS
selected, perhaps because the next transfer is likely targeted
to the same device.
We implement this scheme in the HSSPI driver in this change.
Prior to this change, the CS would toggle momentarily if cs_change
was set for the last transfer. This can be ignored by some or
most devices, but the Microchip TPM2 device does not ignore it.
With the change, the behavior is corrected and the 'glitch' is
eliminated.

Modern intel hardware uses controllers that work in hardware
sequencing mode. In this mode, the controller exposes a subset
of operations, like read, write and erase, making it easier
and less error-prone for use.
On the other hand, most of the controllers handled by the
platform driver use software sequencing that exposes the
entire set of operations i.e. exposes the low level SPI-NOR
opcodes to the software for use.
Update PCI and Platform help text with this information.

Polling mode provides better throughput in general by avoiding the
interrupt overhead as the maximum data size one interrupt can handle is
only 512 bytes. So switch to polling mode as the default mode but add
a driver sysfs option wait_mode to allow user manually changing the mode
at run time between interrupt and polling. Also add driver banner
message when the driver is loaded successfully.
When test on a Broadcom BCM47622(ARM A7 dual core) reference board with
WINBOND W25N01GV SPI NAND chip at 100MHz SPI clock using the MTD speed
test suite, it shows about 15% improvement on the write and 30% on
the read:

Modern CPUs exposes this controller as PCI device that only uses
hardware sequencing capabilities which is safer than software
sequencing.
Leave the platform driver as *DANGEROUS* and update help text since
most of these controllers are using software sequencing.

In preparation for supporting devices with multiple chip selects add an
interface for accessing the chip selects via a function.
Supporting multi-cs in spi core and spi controller drivers would require
the chip_select & cs_gpiod members of struct spi_device to be an array.
But changing the type of these members to array would break the spi driver
functionality. To make the transition smoother introduced four new APIs to
get/set the spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all
spi->chip_select and spi->cs_gpiod references in spi core with the API
calls.
While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the
"idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e.,
spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively.

Fix it by introducing an unlocked variant of spidev_sync() and calling it
from spidev_message() while other users who don't check the spidev->spi's
existence keep on using the locking flavor.

Due to using the u16 type in the min_t() macros the SPI transfer length
will be cast to word before participating in the conditional statement
implied by the macro. Thus if the transfer length is greater than 64KB the
Tx/Rx FIFO threshold level value will be determined by the leftover of the
truncated after the type-case length. In the worst case it will cause the
dramatical performance drop due to the "Tx FIFO Empty" or "Rx FIFO Full"
interrupts triggered on each xfer word sent/received to/from the bus.
The problem can be easily fixed by specifying the unsigned int type in the
min_t() macros thus preventing the possible data loss.

The uevent() callback in struct bus_type should not be modifying the
device that is passed into it, so mark it as a const * and propagate the
function signature changes out into all relevant subsystems that use

Now the rpcif_{en,dis}able_rpm() wrappers just take a pointer to a
device structure, there is no point in keeping them. Remove them, and

Commits f6c911f330 ("spi: dt-bindings: Introduce
spi-cs-setup-ns property") and 33a2fde5f7 ("spi: Introduce
spi-cs-setup-ns property") introduced a new property to represent the
CS setup delay in the device tree, but they have some issues:
- The property is only parsed as a 16-bit integer number of nanoseconds,
which limits the maximum value to ~65us. This is not a reasonable
upper limit, as some devices might need a lot more.
- The property name is inconsistent with other delay properties, which
use a "*-delay-ns" naming scheme.
- Only the setup delay is introduced, but not the related hold and
inactive delay times.
This series fixes the issues and adds support for the two missing
properties. Please pull in the first 3 patches as fixes for 6.2, to
avoid introducing a problematic DT API in this release. The last two
patches can wait until 6.3, though are probably harmless to throw in
as fixes too, since they're trivial.
Now that we support parsing the setup time from the Device Tree, we can
also easily support the remaining hold and inactive time delay values.

65us is not a reasonable maximum for this property, as some devices
might need a much longer setup time (e.g. those driven by firmware on
the other end). Plus, device tree property values are in 32-bit cells
and smaller widths should not be used without good reason.
Also move the logic to a helper function, since this will later be used
to parse other CS delay properties too.

After the removal of the unused board files, I went through the
omap1 code to look for code that no longer has any callers
and remove that.
In particular, support for the omap7xx/omap8xx family is now
completely unused, so I'm only leaving omap15xx/omap16xx/omap59xx.

The newly added spi-cs-setup-ns doesn't really fit with the existing
property names for delays, rename it so that it does before it makes it
into a release and becomes ABI.
The two debug messages in spidev_open() dereference spidev->spi without
taking the lock and without checking if it's not null. This can lead to
a crash. Drop the messages as they're not needed - the user-space will
get informed about ENOMEM with the syscall return value.

There's a spinlock in place that is taken in file_operations callbacks
whenever we check if spidev->spi is still alive (not null). It's also
taken when spidev->spi is set to NULL in remove().
This however doesn't protect the code against driver unbind event while
one of the syscalls is still in progress. To that end we need a lock taken
continuously as long as we may still access spidev->spi. As both the file
ops and the remove callback are never called from interrupt context, we
can replace the spinlock with a mutex.

A 100 ms delay is inserted between tests by default in order to "detect
the individual tests when using a logic analyzer". However, such delays
are unnecessary when using this module for automated regression testing,
so allow them to be disabled with a module parameter.

After introducing devm_spi_alloc_host/spi_alloc_host(), the legacy
named function devm_spi_alloc_master/spi_alloc_master() can be replaced.
And also change other legacy name master/slave to modern name host/target
or controller.
When a platform is booted with devicetree and does not provide a
platform data structure, the driver creates one internally. enable_dma
should not be set in this structure when creating it; the probe function
will set it later if DMA channels are specified via the devicetree.
Setting enable_dma = 1 when creating this internal platform data can
lead to pl022_dma_probe() finding bogus DMA channels (since there is no
channel filter specified) when no DMA channels are specified in the
devicetree.

If xSPI is in x2/x4/x8 mode to calculate busy
cycles, busy bits count must be divided by the number
of lanes.
If opcommand is using 8 busy bits, but SPI is
in x4 mode, there will be only 2 busy cycles.

modifications to the driver to not perform speed changes while
chipselect is active. But those changes where lost with the
convertion to tranfer_one.
Previous implementation was allowing speed changes during
message transfer when cs_change flag was set.
At the time being, core SPI does not provide any feature to change
speed while chipselect is off, so do not allow any speed change during
message transfer, and perform the transfer setup in prepare_message
in order to set correct speed while chipselect is still off.

A busy enough release, but not for the core which has only seen very
small updates. The biggest addition is the readdition of support for
detailed configuration of the timings around chip selects. That had
been removed for lack of use but there's been applications found for it
on Atmel systems. Otherwise the updates are mostly feature additions
and cleanups to existing drivers.
- Provide a helper for getting device match data in a way that
abstracts away which firmware interface is being used.
- Re-add the spi_set_cs_timing() API for detailed configuration of the
timing around chip select and support it on Atmel.
- Support for MediaTek MT7986, Microchip PCI1xxxx, Nuvoton WPCM450 FIU
and Socionext F_OSPI.
There's a straightforward add/add conflict with the rpmsg tree in the
xilinx firmware code (both trees got new users of the firmware added
each needing new firmware<->kernel ioctls).
There's a cross tree merge with I2C in order to use the new
i2c_client_get_device_id() helper in some I2C attached SPI controllers
as part of their conversion to I2C's probe_new() API.

The addition of 3WIRE support would affect MOSI direction even
when still in standard (4 wire) mode. This can lead to MOSI being
at an invalid logic level when a device driver sets an SPI
message with a NULL tx_buf.
spi.h states that if tx_buf is NULL then "zeros will be shifted
out ... " If MOSI is tristated then the data shifted out is subject
to pull resistors, keepers, or in the absence of those, noise.
This issue came to light when using spi-gpio connected to an
ADS7843 touchscreen controller. MOSI pulled high when clocking
MISO data in caused the SPI device to interpret this as a command
which would put the device in an unexpected and non-functional
state.

The state machine of MTK spi nor controller may be disturbed by some
glitch signals from the relevant BUS during dma read, Although the
possibility of causing the dma read to fail is next to nothing,
However, if error-handling is not implemented, which makes the feature
somewhat risky.
Add an error-handling mechanism here, reset the state machine and
re-read the data when an error occurs.

Commit f3186dd876 ("spi: Optionally use GPIO descriptors for CS GPIOs")
has changed the user-space interface so that bogus SPI_CS_HIGH started
to appear in the mask returned by SPI_IOC_RD_MODE even for active-low CS
pins. Commit 138c9c32f0
("spi: spidev: Fix CS polarity if GPIO descriptors are used") fixed only
SPI_IOC_WR_MODE part of the problem. Let's fix SPI_IOC_RD_MODE
symmetrically.

This Cadence QSPI IP has a 4-bit clock divisor field
for baud rate division. For example:
0b0000 = /2
0b0001 = /4
0b0010 = /6
...
0b1111 = /32
The maximum divisor is 32
(when div = CQSPI_REG_CONFIG_BAUD_MASK).
If we assume a reference clock of 500MHz and we set
our spi-max-frequency to something low, such as 10 MHz.
The calculated bit field for the divisor ends up being:
DIV_ROUND_UP(500000000/(2*10000000))-1 = 25
25 is 0b11001... which truncates to a divisor field of 0b1001 (or /20).
This is higher than our anticipated max-frequency of 10MHz
(500MHz/20 = 25 MHz). Instead, let's make sure we're always using
the maximum divisor (/32) in this case and give the user a warning about
the rate adjustment.

This patchset adds DT bindings and a driver for the Flash Interface Unit
(FIU), the SPI flash controller in the Nuvoton WPCM450 BMC SoC. It
supports four chip selects, and direct (memory-mapped) access to 16 MiB
per chip. Larger flash chips can be accessed by software-defined SPI
transfers.
The existing NPCM7xx FIU driver is sufficitently incompatible with the
WPCM450 FIU that I decided to write a new driver.
Since commit 0166dc11be ("of: make CONFIG_OF user selectable"), it
is possible to test-build any driver which depends on OF on any
architecture by explicitly selecting OF. Therefore depending on
COMPILE_TEST as an alternative is no longer needed.

Besides software controlled SPI transfers (UMA, "user mode access"), FIU
also supports a 16 MiB mapping window per attached flash chip.
This patch implements direct mapped read access, to speed up flash reads.
Without direct mapping:

The Flash Interface Unit (FIU) is the SPI flash controller in the
Nuvoton WPCM450 BMC SoC. It supports four chip selects, and direct
(memory-mapped) access to 16 MiB per chip. Larger flash chips can be
accessed by software-defined SPI transfers.
The FIU in newer NPCM7xx SoCs is not compatible with the WPCM450 FIU.

The at91 QSPI IP uses a default value of half of the period of the QSPI
clock period for the cs-setup time, which is not always enough, an example
being the sst26vf064b SPI NOR flash which requires a minimum cs-setup time
of 5 ns. It was observed that none of the at91 SoCs can fulfill the
minimum CS setup time for the aforementioned flash, as they operate at
high frequencies and half a period does not suffice for the required CS
setup time. Add support for configuring the CS timing in the controller.

commit 4ccf359849 ("spi: remove spi_set_cs_timing()"), removed the
method as noboby used it. Nobody used it probably because some SPI
controllers use some default large cs-setup time that covers the usual
cs-setup time required by the spi devices. There are though SPI controllers
that have a smaller granularity for the cs-setup time and their default
value can't fulfill the spi device requirements. That's the case for the
at91 QSPI IPs where the default cs-setup time is half of the QSPI clock
period. This was observed when using an sst26vf064b SPI NOR flash which
needs a spi-cs-setup-ns = <7>; in order to be operated close to its maximum
104 MHz frequency.
Call spi_set_cs_timing() in spi_setup() just before calling spi_set_cs(),
as the latter needs the CS timings already set.
If spi->controller->set_cs_timing is not set, the method will return 0.
There's no functional impact expected for the existing drivers. Even if the
spi-mt65xx.c and spi-tegra114.c drivers set the set_cs_timing method,
there's no user for them as of now. The only tested user of this support
will be a SPI NOR flash that comunicates with the Atmel QSPI controller for
which the support follows in the next patches.
One will notice that this support is a bit different from the one that was
removed in commit 4ccf359849 ("spi: remove spi_set_cs_timing()"),
because this patch adapts to the changes done after the removal: the move
of the cs delays to the spi device, the retirement of the lelgacy GPIO
handling. The mutex handling was removed from spi_set_cs_timing() because
we now always call spi_set_cs_timing() in spi_setup(), which already
handles the spi->controller->io_mutex, so use the mutex handling from
spi_setup().

SPI NOR flashes have specific cs-setup time requirements without which
they can't work at frequencies close to their maximum supported frequency,
as they miss the first bits of the instruction command. Unrecognized
commands are ignored, thus the flash will be unresponsive. Introduce the
spi-cs-setup-ns property to allow spi devices to specify their cs setup
time.

The SPI framework checks for each transfer (with the struct
spi_controller::can_dma callback) whether the driver wants to use DMA
for the transfer. If the driver returns true, the SPI framework will
map the transfer's data to the device, start the actual transfer and
map the data back.
In commit 07e7593877 ("spi: spi-imx: add PIO polling support") the
spi-imx driver's spi_imx_transfer_one() function was extended. If the
estimated duration of a transfer does not exceed a configurable
duration, a polling transfer function is used. This check happens
before checking if the driver decided earlier for a DMA transfer.
If spi_imx_can_dma() decided to use a DMA transfer, and the user
configured a big maximum polling duration, a polling transfer will be
used. The DMA unmap after the transfer destroys the transferred data.
To fix this problem check in spi_imx_transfer_one() if the driver
decided for DMA transfer first, then check the limits for a polling
transfer.

Make the driver be able to bit-bang a GPIO for the Chip Select pin of
select peripherals.
The GPIO value is driven by the driver in that case, and none of the
hardware Chip Select bits will be populated in the PUSHR register for
the TX commands constructed for this peripheral.

pci_get_device() will increase the reference count for the returned
pci_dev. Since 'dma_dev' is only used to filter the channel in
dw_spi_dma_chan_filer() after using it we need to call pci_dev_put() to
decrease the reference count. Also add pci_dev_put() for the error case.

In case the requested bus clock is higher than the input clock, the correct
dividers (pre = 0, post = 0) are returned from mx51_ecspi_clkdiv(), but
*fres is left uninitialized and therefore contains an arbitrary value.
This causes trouble for the recently introduced PIO polling feature as the
value in spi_imx->spi_bus_clk is used there to calculate for which
transfers to enable PIO polling.
Fix this by setting *fres even if no clock dividers are in use.
This issue was observed on Kontron BL i.MX8MM with an SPI peripheral clock set
to 50 MHz by default and a requested SPI bus clock of 80 MHz for the SPI NOR
flash.
With the fix applied the debug message from mx51_ecspi_clkdiv() now prints the
following:

The timeout value of the current dma read is unreasonable. For example,
If the spi flash clock is 26Mhz, It will takes about 1.3ms to read a
4KB data in spi mode. But the actual measurement exceeds 50s when a
dma read timeout is encountered.
In order to be more accurately, It is necessary to use usecs_to_jiffies,
After modification, the measured timeout value is about 130ms.

A DEVAPC violation occurs when removing the module
due to accessing HW registers without base clock.
To fix this bug, the correct method is:
1. Call the runtime resume function to enable the
clock;
2. Operate the registers to reset the HW;
3. Turn off the clocks and disable the device
RPM mechanism.

When this driver is used with a driver that uses preallocated spi_transfer
structs. The speed_hz is halved by every run. This results in:

Use DIV_ROUND_CLOSEST to allow to round down and allow us to keep the
set speed.

Commit 7e963fb2a3 ("spi: mediatek: add ipm design support
for MT7986") makes a mistake on package dividing operation
(one change is missing), need to fix it.
Background:
Ipm design is expanding the HW capability of dma (adjust package
length from 1KB to 64KB), and using "dev_comp->ipm_support" flag
to indicate it.
Issue description:
Ipm support patch (said above) is missing to handle remainder at
package dividing operation.
One case, a transmission length is 65KB, is will divide to 1K
(package length) * 65(package loop) in non-ipm desgin case, and
will divide to 64K(package length) * 1(package loop) + 1K(remainder)
in ipm design case. And the 1K remainder will be lost with the
current SW flow, and the transmission will be failure.
So, it should be fixed.
Solution:
Add "ipm_design" flag in function "mtk_spi_get_mult_delta()" to
indicate HW capability, and modify the parameters corespondingly.

ERR KERN tegra-qspi 3270000.spi: cannot use DMA: -19
ERR KERN tegra-qspi 3270000.spi: falling back to PIO
Tegra234 does not support DMA for the QSPI and so initialising the DMA
is expected to fail. The above error messages are misleading for devices
that don't support DMA and so fix this by skipping the DMA
initialisation for devices that don't support DMA.

A collection of mostly unremarkable fixes for SPI that have built up
since the merge window, all driver specific.
The change to the qup adding support for GPIO chip selects is fixing a
regression due to the removal of legacy GPIO handling, the driver had
previously been silently relying on the legacy GPIO support in a

Some delay occurs between each bursts, thus the default delay is wrong
and a timeout will occur with big enough transfers.
The solution is to handle the timeout management in the driver and
add some delay for each bursts in the timeout calculation.

Currently the SPI PXA2xx devices on Intel platforms can be instantiated
via the following paths:
1) as ACPI LPSS device on Haswell, Bay Trail and Cherry Trail;
2) as ACPI LPSS device on the Sky Lake and newer;
3) as PCI LPSS device on Haswell, Bay Trail and Cherry Trail;
4) as PCI LPSS device on the Sky Lake and newer;
5) as PCI device via ID table.
Each of these cases provides some platform related data differently,
i.e.:
1) via drivers/acpi/acpi_lpss.c and drivers/spi/spi-pxa2xx.c
2) via drivers/mfd/intel-lpss-acpi.c
3) via drivers/spi/spi-pxa2xx-pci.c
4) via drivers/mfd/intel-lpss-pci.c and drivers/spi/spi-pxa2xx.c
5) via drivers/spi/spi-pxa2xx-pci.c
This approach has two downsides:
a) there is no data propagated in the case #2 because we can't have
two or more drivers to match the same ACPI ID and hence some cases
are still not supported (Sky Lake and newer ACPI enabled LPSS);
b) the data is duplicated over two drivers in the cases #1 & #4 and,
besides to be a bloatware, it is error prone (e.g. Lakefield has
a wrong data right now due to missed PCI entry in the spi-pxa2xx.c).
This series fixes the downsides, and enables previously unsupported
cases.
There is no code that uses ID tables directly, except the
struct device_driver at the end of the file. Hence, move
tables closer to its user. It's always possible to access
them via pointer to a platform device.

Allow to set the Intel SSP type by reading the property.
Only apply this to the known MFD enumerated LPSS devices.
The check is done by the looking for the specifically
named IO memory resource provided by upper layer. This
won't be an issue in the future because we strictly
prioritize the order in which we are looking for the SSP
type in the code.

The original fix "spi: stm32: Rate-limit the 'Communication suspended' message"
still leads to "stm32h7_spi_irq_thread: 1696 callbacks suppressed" spew in the
kernel log. Since this 'Communication suspended' message is a debug print, add
RATELIMIT_MSG_ON_RELEASE flag to inhibit the "callbacks suspended" part during
normal operation and only print summary at the end.

Between SPI transactions, all SPI pins are in HiZ state. When using the SS
signal from the SPICC controller it's not an issue because when the
transaction resumes all pins come back to the right state at the same time
as SS.
The problem is when we use CS as a GPIO. In fact, between the GPIO CS
state change and SPI pins state change from idle, you can have a missing or
spurious clock transition.
Set a bias on the clock depending on the clock polarity requested before CS
goes active, by passing a special "idle-low" and "idle-high" pinctrl state
and setting the right state at a start of a message.

In commit 7a908832ac ("spi: imx: add fallback feature") the last
user of the struct spi_imx_devtype_data::disable_dma callback was
removed. However the disable_dma member of struct spi_imx_devtype_data
and the callback itself was not removed.
Remove struct spi_imx_devtype_data::disable_dma and mx51_disable_dma()
as they are unused.

The proposed spi_get_device_match_data() helper is for retrieving
a driver data associated with the ID in an ID table. First, it tries
to get driver data of the device enumerated by firmware interface
(usually Device Tree or ACPI). If none is found it falls back to
the SPI ID table matching.

The offset value of the mapping window in the kernel structure is
calculated using the value of the previous window offset. This doesn't
reflect how the HW is configured and can lead to erroneous setting of
the second flash device (CE1).

GQSPI controller uses the internal clock for loopback mode. The loopback
mode is used with the high-speed Quad SPI timing mode, where the memory
interface clock needs to be greater than 40 MHz. Based on the tap delay
value programmed, the internal clock is delayed and used for capturing
the data.
Based upon the frequency of operation set the recommended tap delay
values in GQSPI driver.

During every transfer the GQSPI driver configures the baud rate value. But
when there is no change in the SPI clock frequency the driver should avoid
rewriting the same baud rate value to the configuration register. Update
GQSPI driver to rewrite the baud rate value if there is any change in SPI
clock frequency.

During every transfer GQSPI driver writes the CPOL & CPHA values to the
configuration register. But the CPOL & CPHA values do not change in between
multiple transfers, so moved the CPOL & CPHA initialization to hardware
init so that the values are written only once.

Microchip pci1xxxx is a PCIe switch with a multi-function endpoint on one of its
downstream ports. SPI is one of the functions in the multi-function endpoint. This
function has 2 SPI masters, operates at a maximum frequency of 30 MHz and supports
7 client devices per master. This patch adds complete functionality to the SPI
function except for suspend and resume.

Most of the device with QUP SPI adapter are actually using GPIO-s for
chip select.
However, this stopped working after ("spi: Retire legacy GPIO handling")
as it introduced a check on ->use_gpio_descriptors flag and since spi-qup
driver does not set the flag it meant that all of boards using GPIO-s and
with QUP adapter SPI devices stopped working.
So, to enable using GPIO-s again set ->use_gpio_descriptors to true and
populate ->max_native_cs.
